The Spurs Rebuild Is OVER!

The Spurs Rebuild Is OVER!

Victor wanyama has changed the Spurs future he answered every Spurs fan prayers with a sensational rookie season oh go oh no put it down and has accelerated the Spurs rebuild process by a few years but there was one massive problem they finished 14th Place in the west even with finishing one game above last wanyama was such a bright spot that if the Spurs make the Right Moves this off season they can potentially become a playoff team the biggest moves the Spurs made in their history is trading for George in 1974 and trading Away George Hill for the 15th pick in the 2011 NBA draft which ended up being Kawhi Leonard this franchise is known for building Championship squads through the draft but ESPN’s Jonathan javone says everything I hear is that the Spurs want to be competitive next year they want to be in the playoffs they are not looking to make this a 2 to threeyear process I’ve heard nobody on the roster is Untouchable except for wanyama and guard Devon Vel the Spurs are in a position where they can be aggressive and that’s because of what happened a little over a year ago welcome to Chicago the city of big shoulders and tonight big expectations uh I believe one of my colleagues called you the best Prospect ever in team sports and he’s unlike any player on a basketball floor that we have ever seen with this combination of size length Mobility agility and skill Victor wanana is the singular greatest Prospect in NBA draft history welcome everyone to the 2023 NBA draft lottery presented by State Farm the second pick will be made by the Charlotte Hornets and that means that the number one pick in the 2023 NBA draft goes to the San Antonio Spurs the first pick in the 2023 NBA draft the San Antonio Spurs select Victor wanyama from nonar France when you came into the league you were talked about as the best Prospect in NBA history being the first overall was a an achievement and I’m glad you know nobody’s going to take that away from me it’s on my resume now but being the best Prospect is it’s not really it’s not really a thing so doesn’t matter really I’m trying to be the best uh in the league now you know everybody you know laboring like this unicorn thing everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years but he’s more like like an alien the biggest draft prospect since LeBron James Victor wanyama was being talked about essentially two years before he was draft eligible a 74 player that has the ability to pass shoot defend and even playmake was unheard of in the past at the beginning of the 2022 2023 season which was W Bama’s draft year his French team played against the NBA’s g-league ignite which featured fellow draft class member scoot Henderson he put on a show where he was hitting step back threes blocking shots at the three-point line with his length and even bringing the ball up the court this performance confirmed him being the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft once the draft lottery came and the Spurs won it you could tell that wanama was happy to be part of the organization he wants to follow the footsteps of one of the greatest French basketball players of all time and Tony Parker come to the Spurs like his whole family wanted him to go to San Antonio and so when it happened it was just unbelievable and I was very happy for him and be coached by one of the greatest and Greg papovich who has a history of coaching Elite Hall of Fame big men like David Robinson and Tim Duncan once the Spurs made it official on draft night it feels like the Spurs would take a big jump next season but doubts arose a few weeks later when wanyama made his summer league debut a soldout crowd anticipating the premiere of the alien but it was a Premiere that failed miserably we wanted to see him attack the you know the baset used his size and we also want to see one of those freakish highlights that we saw in the French Premier League we didn’t get that maybe wemi ain’t it bull b is better than home definitely an overhype player wemi is the biggest bust in [Music] history wmi redeemed himself in his second game dropping 27 points 12 rebounds three blocks and was 9 for 14 shooting and proved all the naysayers wrong and that he’ll be just fine after that game he was officially shut down for the rest of the summer league before the season began Victor was already the favorite to become Rookie of the Year and even got some Defensive Player of the Year considerations because of plays like this guarding to start the game puts the cross over on Wy and wyes once the season began Wy looked more than fine but no matter how good he played the Spurs still suck and at one point lost 18 consecutive games however that doesn’t change the fact that wbi accelerated the Spurs rebuild because he has shown that he’s the next big thing during the year he posted a triple double with 10 blocks against the rap the 22 player in NBA history and the youngest post a 5×5 stat line not only that he finished runner up for the defensive player of the year award was all NBA Defensive first and even got some all NBA votes all as a rookie so Spurs fans you’re looking good he’s on that LeBron and more recently Luca donish trajectory of becoming an Allstar every year becoming all NBA first team and now a perennial MVP and defensive player of the year [Applause] candidate but what should the Spurs do now that despite the Spurs being last right when he wants to win now the Mavs helped Young Star Luca by trading for Kyrie the Suns tried to help Devon Booker getting Kevin Durant the Spurs had made one blockbuster trade for a star 1974 got 21-year-old George gerin became a superstar the Spurs can’t treat this like a long-term rebuild you know you you hear in these organizations we can’t skip steps they’ve got to move quickly in putting a real team around him and the SP have two options round wemi with a lead Talent or do what the Cavs did to LeBron in 2000s which resulted in in this fall I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and um join the Miami but what is the most difficult part of the rebuild finding the franchise start to build around is the most difficult part the Spurs already completed that now it’s just giving him help with multiple top 10 picks and some young pieces already on the roster the Spurs have a massive opportunity to hit a home run this off season wbi is on his rookie contract the time is now to maximize the value of his low salary because sooner or later he will will be the new highest paid player in NBA history the SPs can have one of three off Seasons the boring one the realistic one or a dream one the boring off season will also look like the OKC Thunder approach which is building through the draft the Thunder have many assets and have yet to make a big splash there’s nothing wrong with what the Thunder have done as they are now one of the best young teams in the NBA so the Spurs will use their fourth pick to draft someone like Reed Shepard from Kentucky and a guy like Nicola topic or Dalton connect on the eighth pick one issue with this approach is that the rebuild will take about four to 5 years it took the Thunder 4 years to be this competitive if the Spurs want to be competitive sooner they need to take a different approach unless they find some studs in free agency the realistic approach is to get wemi a point guard that can get him the ball and an elite option that could potentially be available is Trey young Trey young is that running mate who’s already an All-Star in this league and is an elite playmaker and shooter the negative to Trey Young’s game is that he’s a defensive liability so in order to fill the roster around wanyama and Trey young you would need to fill the rosters with shoes ERS and Defenders another point guard that fills this spot is Cleveland’s point guard Darius Garland who could be looking for a trade especially if the Cavs extend Donovan Mitchell they can find cheap players in free agency but if they’re looking to add Elite Defenders OG anomi is an option in free agency and Mel Bridges if the Brooklyn Nets finally decide to trade him both are also Elite three-point Shooters as well a core of either Darius Garland or Trey young along with Devon vasel and either one of OG anobi or Mel Bridges all paired with Victor wanyama may not not be an immediate title Contender next season but they will 100% be competitive another realistic option can be targeting Paul George and free agency George is a two-way star that will make the spares competitive instantly and he can help Mentor wanyama they can also add a veteran point guard like Kyle Larry or tyus Jones to facilitate the offense the downside to targeting George is that he is already 34 years old and has limited years left on his career and will not match wean yama’s timeline the dream off season which is borderline unrealistic is trading for a superstar as mentioned before the Spurs usually do not trade for anyone or sign anyone in free agency in the most recent case the best player that signed in the free agency in their Prime was LaMarcus Aldridge making a blockbuster move this summer and giving wemi a partner in crime is what a Spurs fan dreams of the first Superstar player is Donovan Mitchell with currently one year left on his current deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers it is unknown if he will be extending with them if the Cavs get told that he will not resign or have a feeling he will not resign they will just trade him as they don’t want to lose a player like that for free Mitchell who is currently 27 and is in his prime is an elite scorer and can handle the ball from time to time pairing wemi with an elite guard like himself is a match made in heaven option two can be Kevin Durant this can only be possible if the Suns do not decide to run it back with their big three Durant is a Bonafide Superstar even at age 35 he may not be the same player he was a couple of years ago but Kevin Durant at his worst is still an elite level scorer the big issue is that Durant’s and Webb’s timelines do not match at all option three can be Devon Booker again very unrealistic the Suns will part ways with their franchise star but it is a fun option to look at Bleacher Reports Zach Buckley put together a trade idea where Kellin Johnson Malachi Branham Zack Collins Blake Wesley the number four overall pick the number eight overall pick a 2025 Atlanta first round pick and a 20127 Atlanta first round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Devin Booker again this trade will only happen in NBA 2k but this can be a possibility the spers can attempt and they have much more to offer as well the San Antonio sports need to be aggressive this offseason especially with GRE papovich not getting any younger getting Wy help is the number one priority for the franchise especially if they want to achieve their goal for being competitive next season thank you guys for watching and The Spurs Rebuild Is OVER!
Victor Wembanyama had a fantastic rookie season and will be the next big thing. He lived up to the hype of being that generational prospect. The San Antonio Spurs can skip some steps in their rebuild and be aggressive this offseason and can be competitive next season all because of Wembanyama.

  1. These guys are not beginners. They will keep one or both of the 4th and 8th pick.
SA will nit trade for a superstar.
They will gather a team who will get PO experience and try to be competitive in 3/4 years.

The media and all these youtubers are just trying to put pressure and get some views.

  2. Jonathan doesn't know what the crap he's talking about. We might pick up some free agent veterans but we're not gonna be dealing just to deal.

The problem The media fails to understand or appreciate is even Wemby knows that it's going to be a long pool to get to where we need to be when we drafted him we knew this could be a 2-3 year process even though he broke out the way he did.

I wish folks would stop creating a narrative that's not there.

  3. As someone that has followed the Spurs since the 70’s they are not wanting to be “competitive “ they are wanting to win it all. The reason that OKC is in the post they are now is because they got the Spurs assistant GM in Presti taught by RC Buford. I’m pretty sure Wright is going to do it the right way.

  4. This year's free agents and draft is weak compared to 2025. You have to realize that the Sochan experiment cost at least 10 games, also Victor was on minutes restriction. Even if they play with the same players next year, they will be at least a 35-game winner. In the draft if Risacher falls to 4 then pick him and Carter at 8. I feel right there will make a difference. If Risacher is not there then Salaun or Da Silva. The 3 two way I have off brand of David Jones, Quinton Post and Malevy Leons. Next year is where they get their team going forward.

  5. No one is giving up any young stars unless they are grossly overpaid like Trae Young. Picking up DeRozen and Thompson on 3 year deals will make them playoff contenders. Gives the young core time to improve and pickup good role players in the draft over the next 3 seasons. Although I think Alex Sarr is overrated, his ceiling is high, would love to see them trade the 2024 #8 pick + future 1st rounder + Keldon Johnson to the Hawks for Dejounte Murray + 2024 #1 Pick (Sarr). DeRozen and Murray know Pop's system, so it's instant chemistry. Starting Line Up: Wemby, Vassell, Thompson, Murray, DeRozen. Sochan, Sarr, Collins, Jones in the rotation.

  6. if u buy player LBJ DUrant CUrry
u can only win 1 championship
    dont be stupid
spurs want to win another 4 championship
so they need to raise new talents by their own
they got 10 first round pick in the next 4 years

  7. You have no ball knowledge bro. I'm sorry. The "realistic approach" is technically unrealistic. The realistic is building through the draft and it's not boring, it's smart. This is why Spurs were successful for 3 decades

  8. That is a lot to give up for Booker. I don’t see that happening. Getting OG or Mikal and a point guard seems more realistic

  9. Durant in SA? Never ever happen. Spurs will go for broke because Pop doesn’t have a lot of years left to coach. No disrespect to him at all. He is an awesome coach. It’s hard for me to envision Pop haven’t Trey Young as his Point. He can’t tolerate no defense. Or 35 ft pull ups.
    Go Mavs!!!
