BREAKING: Detroit Pistons TRADE With The Dallas Mavericks!

BREAKING: Detroit Pistons TRADE With The Dallas Mavericks!

trading for Tim Hardaway Jr uh and three second round picks in exchange for Quinton Grimes and we kind of foresaw this coming Tran Lon uh the Pistons have a lot of cap space and Tran was going to find a way to absorb contracts short-term contracts that are expiring very soon Tim Hardway Jr set to be a free agent this upcoming season um next offseason rather and the Pistons are able to acquire draft capital in exchange form so to me this is a great trade for the Pistons you get you know Tim Hardway Jr which if we’re just talking about it from from what they got he can shoot uh he’s a fine player he’s a fine role player um out of the rotation in the finals for the most part for the Mavericks but really the big part of this deal is the three second round picks and not just this deal but what’s to come for the future when you look at what trun and the Pistons want to do it’s about acquiring assets taking on short term expiring contracts and building basically a chest of draft Capital which look around the league I mean that’s what you’re going to need in the future when you’re trying to acquire Talent so to me this is smart I mean you look at free agency already uh in the best free agents available are already pretty much gone I mean OG and Obi returned to the Knicks Nick Claxton returned to the Nets and when you look at Paul George and Klay Thompson they’re they’re not even the right fits for the Pistons I andan it’s not realistic but they’re not coming here either so for the Pistons at least when you’re talking about you know who who’s going to save them this free agency there isn’t anyone out there so you have all this money they still have $50 million in cap space even after this deal now acquiring Tim Hardway Jr so the smart thing for the Pistons right now is to acquire assets take on contracts like Tim Hardway Jr who are set to expire and people might say well this is what Troy Weaver did uh yeah tried to do you know I I like I like this approach for Tran this is the smart way to do it you got to make sure you’re getting assets back in return though in three second round picks yeah the Mavericks wanted to trade away his contract they want to bring back Derrik Jones Jr and this is how they they feel like they need to do it you know trading away Tim Hardaway and the Pistons are like hey we got cap space we could take them um and it’s very similar to what Charlotte did yesterday uh talked about this in a tweet uh they’re using caps space to take on contracts for future draft picks so there’s probably going to be more to come just foreshadowing for the future I don’t think the Pistons are done here when it comes to acquiring uh contracts now short-term contracts that has to be you know what what’s involved now we’re not talking about acquiring contracts that are multi multiple years long uh three foure contracts no short-term contracts and in exchange for assets and the Pistons are just strapped right now for assets I mean the F they don’t own their first round picks they’re protected so you only can trade them on draft night and getting second round picks I know the second round picks aren’t as valuable as the NFL for example but they’re still draft picks which can be used to to be turned into a player or more picks uh or moving up and getting a first round pick whatever the case may be whatever the case may be you know so this is a positive thing for Tran langden I want your guys thoughts what do you make of the move and what do you make of kind of this this approach to the off season if this is what Tran langan’s going to plan to do um I like it a lot of the NBA community at least the response I’ve seen they like it um I don’t think this is bad at all uh it’s a good approach for his first off season using some of that cap space I’m sure they’ll sign some players in for agency uh you acquire a bunch of draft capital and you keep it moving but what do you guys think comment down below share your thoughts I’d love to know uh what have thought of trj and langon so far with drafting Ron Holland um and now the the the trade his first trade ever as the president of basketball operations so I I you know I think it’s a great trade Quinton Grimes is someone that I you know it down the stretch last season wasn’t very good he’s good defensively um but he’s not a player that you look at and say well this guy you cannot let go he’s a part of your core I it was never that case like Quint Grimes was here um didn’t play well in Detroit I think he shot like 16% from three while he was in Detroit so uh I have no issue with this but comment down below three second round picks Tim Hardway Jr in exchange for Quinton Grimes it’s a great trade let me know in the comments section below and what do you want tra and Ledon to do with the rest of the money a lot of money available 50 million dollars what free agents do you think the Piston should pursue you can check out our live show 800 P p.m. to 10 p.m. every 1. Not the deal everyone was hoping for.. But it is what it is. Who’s going to come to a team that won an average of 17 games the last 5 seasons.

  2. B- trade. Wanted a 1st. THJ has more money on the book. But THJ is a slight upgrade to Grimes for sure. THJ could be a great mentor and a natural fit next to Cade or Ivey.

  3. You weren't keeping Quentin Grimes next off-season when he needs to get paid anyways. Also, you can probably flip Hardaway Jr. at the deadline to a team.

  4. It is better trade Grimes now if we know that he isn’t part of long term plans than trade him mid season

Sure there is a chance Grimes could bump up his value with good play. But we are trying to build an identity and a roster. No use to showcase players for trade during the season—artificially propping them up to look good.

And even an ideal world, Grimes was never going to fetch a first round pick—especially if it is known he is going to test the market in FA anyway.

  5. So they traded bojan bogdanovic and alec burks for THJ and 3 2nds?
That seems like a poor trade.

  6. Mavs fans are happy because his shooting variance isnt something we are worried about with a 24 year old. He's basically another Josh Green.

Tim is garbage though. I will happily give 3 2nds to be rid of that hole on the lineup. Bo serious contender should have THJ on their squad, so it makes perfect sense why Detroit fans are happy with the deal.

  7. Mavs Fan Perspective: Dallas gets under the cap, can resign Derrick Jones Junior. It's all we wanted from the offseason.
THJ played 5.5 seasons with Dallas, streaky shooter who can catch fire, then goes through droughts. He was looking like a legit 6th man of the year player, then just fell off a cliff the last 3 months of the season.
I'm glad Dallas didn't need to trade Jaden Hardy, O-Max or Josh Green. Thank you Detroit

  8. THJ made 70 more 3s than and Piston last year. Grimes had a knee issue and didn’t show up for us at all. After initially disliking it a lot, I’m fine with it.

  9. I do not see a lot of value in second round picks. Here are the most recent second selections of the Pistons (10 year period): Ismael Kamagate, JT Thor, Isaiah Livers, Luka Garza, Bruce Brown, Michael Gbinije, Darrun Hilliard, and Spencer Dinwiddie. I know second rounders can be bundled to move up in the draft; however, someone has to want these somewhat "worthless" picks.

  10. Piston fans complaining when Troy Weaver would be sending out 3 2nd rounders instead of receiving them lmao

  11. I have no issue with this trade & think it is was smart for the Pistons to get picks.

However at this point calling 3 2nd round picks draft capital is extremely generous at this point. What I mean is even if you have 50 2nd rd picks to give in a trade you are never landing a difference making star player. The acquired picks in the trade have the potential to be used to get draft capital in future deals.

  12. THJ = Alec Burks. So far i am not impressed with Trajan at all. 2 years from now Cade will be gone and we will have 14 second round picks.

  13. they sent the best asset out to Dallas, and got shit return. Yea no….Unless he wants a larger salary at his disposal for future deals, this is not a good trade. Minimal return.

  14. Dead bodies for assets. Love it. It’s not a destination for major free agents.

  15. I like the trade. As a mavs fan.
I think Detroit is doing the right thing stack assets! Next years draft is supposed to be deep…
