Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) on X – The Toronto Raptors are picking up the $23 million option on guard Bruce Brown’s contract, sources tell ESPN. Brown will be a valuable trade asset on an expiring contract for the Raptors.

As long as mcdaniels is gone they could’ve done whatever with bruce

OK Woj, you better be right.

Predicting this drags to the trade deadline

I get it but personally disagree with this decision. I think using your cap space to find a deal similar to the McDaniels one – where a team trying to duck the tax/aprons sends you players/assets for the salary relief – would have been a better move than this. Clearly the trade demand for Bruce isn’t that high given we haven’t found an offer we like. And he’ll need minutes that should go to the young guys.

FINALLY TRENT IS GONE

Not a surprise.
Probably the end for Gary Trent unless they can flip Davion/Sasha

I feel like they must be actively working on or looking for a deal, no? I doubt they drag this into the season.

I can’t be the only person who thinks we aren’t trading him this offseason lol

At least McDaniels is gone

He’s got those intangibles, Woj
ilickedysharks
I bet we hold on to him until the trade deadline hoping some team gets desperate enough to pay for him

Him being here isn’t the worst thing TBH. He won’t move the needle on the court, but he creates some internal competition at the 2/3 which can hopefully accelerate the development of guys like Dick and Walter.

Relax folks. Bruce Brown is a good NBA player, and there’s nothing wrong with having a good player on the team. Raptors need perimeter defenders and he is very good at that. His connectivity, off-ball smarts and tertiary shot making will be better complimented this coming season unless injuries ravage again. He can start at off-guard to take defensive pressure off Quickley and Scottie. He can also play alongside Gradey.
Yes, ideally he is traded at some point as he is an unlikely long-term fit. But there’s no sense in giving him away for less than his value (which is moderate to a contending team).
Edit: it was VERY cheap to add picks in the 2024 draft. There were surely options to move Bruce, but why trade a decent asset for a mid pick when you can instead fleece the Kings and buy one from the Wolves? Masai probably wants 2025/26 picks for Bruce. Another team may do this in a few weeks when free agency options are limited.

They kept telling me he’d be traded in the draft because he’ll be in high demand.
I’m not concerned because I always knew BB is not the trade asset people think he is. The return if there is one will be minimal.
Big_Albatross_3050
Considering what Masai/Bobby got for the travesty that is the wrong McDaniels brother, I think they could get something good for Bruce Brown.
Especially once FA is over and teams look toward getting that last guy to really bolster their bench, possibly even the TDL when team presumably get desperate
Mike_0405
Will Raptors be able to keep Trent and still below tax?
Denisaur9
Brown is a very valuable vet who does a little everything, he has won a championship. Let him be around our young guys then flip him at the deadline. Happy we picked up his option.
We can still sign and trade Trent as another option and or use MLE.
