“My three ball opens up everything. If I have a reliable three-point shot, they have to come up and guard me on pick-and-pops. And since I’m quicker than a lot of centers, that will give me the chance to drive past them and create advantages for my team.”
When I asked him which NBA teams he thinks he would fit best on, he mentioned the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves (two of the 13 teams he’s worked out for during the pre-draft process). These aren’t teams that are hurting for star power. They are teams that want to win now and need rookies who can come in and make an immediate impact. Watson is ready to do just that.
“[Teams like the Celtics and the Timberwolves] they have a lot of veteran players, and they are looking to win now,” Watson told me. “So, they aren’t looking for a player to come in that they have to teach. They are looking for a player who can contribute right away, and I think I can be that player.”
“These teams, they don’t need a scorer. They don’t need a bucket-getter. They need someone who does all the dirty work – rebounds, deflections, screens, ball movement, etc. I can do all those things for them. I can help them win.”

The more i read the more i love Watson, he can be 36 years old Horford for 10 years.
Horford is a good deal bigger, but aside from playing the pure 5 he brings a lot to the table
As a C’s and Zags homer this draft pick couldn’t make me happier. I was Anton’s biggest critic at GU and he really improved himself offensively year over year and was a stud on defensive.
Good to see him point out his three-ball as well, his shooting will really make or break his NBA career. Gotta imagine he’s put emphasis on really working on it in his time off.
I did a lil bit of my own scouting for this draft but hasn’t looked into Watson much at all. I’m pleasantly surprised by the way he talks the game.
Ooooooo hes saying all the right things. Very excited to see how he turns out.
this second round rookie actually knows ball
Watson seems like physically bigger Lamar Stevens: defensive dawg, energy player, good BBIQ. He’s beefier than Brissett but less than Tillman.
I can see where they think he fits, even as a rookie. Stevens and Brissett got regular season minutes and KP/Al are going to miss games.
I grew up in the same city as him but am a few years older. He almost dunked on me at the rec when he was 13 years old. You can tell I’m a fan of him because of my Reddit username. Watched him at Gonzaga and he’s always been an extremely underrated player because he is always just making the right plays on offense and defense.
I didn’t see him getting drafted at all tbh and I’m from his hometown
