Steal of the Draft? Indiana Pacers Draft Johnny Furphy
looking at our board seeing who was left he was the guy that we had targeted to go get and we wanted to make sure we got it we didn’t want to leave any room to chance that we weren’t going to get him you know talent-wise with his age it was just felt like a no-brainer for [Music] us it was a surprise to many that Johnny Fury wasn’t selected in the first round of the NBA draft however the Indiana pises GM saw an opportunity to get a top 20 talent and took advantage sure you’re always you know trying to be aggressive to get a guy you’ve targeted I think after last night looking at our board seeing who was left where we had guys ranked he was the guy that we had targeted to go get and we wanted to make sure we got it we didn’t want to leave any room to chance that we weren’t going to get him um it happens lots of times in this business I’ve experienced it several times where the guy you have targeted gets picked right in front of you and we had an opportunity to ensure that we were going to get him and we took advantage and uh made it happen the 69ine Australian averaged nine points and five rebounds and earned Big 12 all freshman honors in his lone season at Kansas the Pacers love Fury’s aggressive play and see a natural fit with their own uptempo style like his aggressiveness he’s a very aggressive assertive player who knows how to play without the ball which is beneficial for the way we play um we put the ball in the hands of a lot of you know great Playmakers and if you get guys who know how to play without it they know how to cut they know how to crash offensive glass which is is one of his best traits they know how to run the floor they know how to you know play in transition uh but he can also catch and shoot I think that’s a skill that will continue to develop with us because he’ll get lots of opportunities to do that but his movement without the ball I think is what was most appealing you know physically he’s got to get stronger he’s a young player his body is maturing I think he would even admit that um but I think his style of play fits the way that we like to play offensively and um you know the defensive side he’s he’s only 19 he’s got a lot of room to grow on that side but I really like the fit um you know he’s a big wing and I think the his style of play fits the way we play after the disappointment of round one of the draft the 19-year-old will now pair up the likes of Tyrese halberton Pascal sakam and Miles Turner Fury sees Indiana as the perfect fit for him absolutely yeah I mean the more the more I kind of talk about it and think about it sounds more and more perfect so yeah that was kind of out the end of the day just trying to find the best fit and yeah Indiana’s just gets me really excited now the hard work starts for Johnny and you know playing for a championship winning head coach in Rick Carlile Fury is going to be coached up old school style yeah he gave me a call uh just congratulated me uh he’s uh very excited uh yeah very excited with uh kind of the way that I’ll be able to fit in with their play style uh very kind of exciting team Dynamic uh he said yeah it’s going to be we can’t wait to get to work he’s going to be I’m going to be coach hard which is good um but yeah he just congratulated me which is is pretty pretty insane all right Pacers fans let me know do you think Johnny Fury will be the steal of the draft for me I was very surprised that he didn’t get selected in the first round and I believe the Pacers have found themselves someone who would be able to make an impact on both sides of the ball in the future but it might not be next season all right guys let me know what you think leave a comment down below all right guys that wrap up for today’s video If you like this video please hit the like button that really helps this video out if you like this type of content Please Subscribe and I’ll see you in the next video cheers no brainer for us
It was a surprise to many that Johnny Furphy wasn’t selected in the first round of the NBA draft.
However, The Indiana Pacers GM saw an opportunity to get a top 20 talent and took advantage.
The 6-9 Australian averaged 9.0 points and 5 rebounds and earned Big-12 All-Freshman honors in his lone season at Kansas.
The Pacers love Furphy’s aggressive play and see a natural fit with their own uptempo style.

As a Pacers fan, I’m definitely excited about his potential. He definitely needs to bulk up and his skill set is still developing. But at 19 with the ability run and transition and shoot well and hopefully defend with the current clogging of our roster spots, it’s a good time to take a chance on a 19-year-old with a lot of potential.
Kid got heart, showed it at KU. Also a great team player. One year in G-league then should be on the full squad.
