Detroit Pistons TRADE Quentin Grimes For Tim Hardaway Jr & Three Second Round Picks Reaction

hey guys what is going on Anthony here with pistons stock hope you guys are having a great day so far you guys we have another trade from the Detroit Pistons this time it is for Tim Hardway Jr from the Dallas Mavericks the Pistons agreed on a trade to send Quint Grimes in exchange for thj and three second round picks now we had made a video I want to say maybe a week maybe two weeks ago I think it was two weeks ago I I just don’t remember remember times has been going by so fast but Bleacher Report had a similar trade situation to this of taking on Tim Hardway Jr in exchange for second round picks and everything that Tron langon said in the presser about using the cap space to get draft Capital assets he just did that and I know they going to be some people that are upset that the Pistons are giving up a young guy in quiton Grimes and I get that three and D Wing lots of upside um I’m not too surprised at this trade because if you listen to National media they thought that Dallas was going to try to dump uh Tim Hardaway for probably the last year or so they they’ve really been trying to trade him and even local media here I want to give James Edwards his flowers he he said this on his podcast be on the lookout for uh Tim Hardaway Jr in in terms of the Pistons putting their hat in that race and looks like the Pistons are going going to be getting thj there are some other tweets that we do want to read on the screen for you guys so w is breaking down the second round picks that the Pistons are going to be receiving in this trade and it looks like it is going to be a 2025 second via Toronto which should be a pretty good early second round pick and two 2028 in the deal sources tell ESPN so you’re getting a 2025 second from Toronto which Toronto is in a similar situation to the Pistons uh they’re going through a rebuild so that that second round pick is probably going to be a very good second round pick and then you’re getting two second round picks in 2028 to take on Tim Hardway Jr’s contract which I I I think it’s a good deal given kind of like where the Pistons are at in terms of just like uh you know building their team right uh Tim McMahon from ESPN also says this move positions the Mavs to offer significant part of the 12.9 million non- taxpayers mid-level exception to Dereck Jones Jr GM Nico Harrison has called a resign Jones a priority One a and 1 B this offseason so in this trade the Mavs obviously they they want to sign resign I should say uh Derek Jones Jr who’s a very good player saw him in the playoffs this year um and I’ve been a fan of his probably since he was on the Miami Heat just just a really athletic Wing uh I think that’s all from ESPN really but my initial thoughts with this trade you guys is I’m not too surprised by it and again I I know people are going to be upset with the Quinton Grimes like giving up on Quinton Grimes but when you win 14 games there are going to be some casualties there are going to be some players that aren’t going to be on this roster anymore and I think Tim Hardway Jr still has a little bit left in the tank I think he’s a player that fits next to Cade in terms of perimeter shooting perimeter spacing but what I wanted to do was go over and put his contract on the screen so you guys can see how much money he has owed for the remainder of his contract so let’s go over and go look at Tim Hardaway Jr’s contract so if you guys go over to spot track you can see what Tim Hardway Jr is owed for the remaining of his contract he signed a 4year $75 million deal with the Mavs a few seasons ago and the Pistons will be taking on 16 almost 16.2 16.1 million of his contract and he will set to be an unrestricted free agent next season so if you’re looking at this deal at the surface basically it’s going to be a salary dump for one year of Tim Hardway Jr if Tim Hardway Jr just has a breakout season he does great the Pistons could possibly resign him he’ll only be 33 years old uh Tim Hardway Jr does not have a good season with the Pistons you don’t really have to worry about it and you can use that money to possibly sign a replacement for a Tim Hardaway Jr I really don’t think the contract is that bad given you know the the uh the free agents in the the shooting guard market like we saw Malik monk get paid uh by the Kings I know some of you guys uh still talk about Gary Trent Jr I don’t know if that’s going to be a possibility more maybe you sign Gary Harris to a shorter term deal if you want a little bit more Insurance quality at that two guard position but did want to put this on the screen uh for you guys to kind of look at what his contract is going to be this upcoming season for your trit Pistons my final thoughts on this trade I like it for both sides I’ll start with Dallas I think with Dallas you’re saving money and you’re getting a guy that’s a 3 and D Wing that you can plug and play next to Luka donic and Kyrie Irving for the Detroit Pistons I like this move because you’re getting assets to take out a contract and you’re using your cap space in that way you’re you’re taking on 16 million of a one-year rental and you’re getting three second round picks a Toronto 2025 and two future 2028 seconds from Dallas I I like it I really do I know they’re going to be some people that are upset with Quinton Grimes and I get it he’s a young promising player with upside but let me know what you guys think of this trade for the Detroit Pistons acquiring Tim Hardway Jr and three second round picks and sending Quinton Grimes to the Mavs I will talk to you guys down there like always hope you guys are staying safe take care and I’ll catch you guys in the next video peace peace [Music] o [Music]

  1. So what is the difference between this move that Langdon made and the one Weaver made for Harris last year?

  2. Two early seconds next year could be very helpful in moving into the first next year or move up in the top if we don't win the lottery.

  3. I love this plus hes coming back home to his starting yrs ( college ) so this seems very fitting to me

  4. I like the trade. We get a shooter, in the short term, and future draft picks. In the meantime, our young guys still get to learn how to be pros. We have the cap space to get another shooter with a bloated or expiring contract for more draft capital. It seems someone has a plan and they are going to execute the plan

  5. THJs one skill (3pt) is a need and they got future assets. Plus the Pistons have to reach the cap floor. THJ should be better than last years trade for the remains of Joe Harris.

  6. It took the Mavs 2+ years of actively trying to move THJ to get rid of him. There was not a race by any team to get THJ, it was more of a slow crawl. The only value at this stage of his career is his expiring contract. Tim will shoot lights out for the Pistons for 10% of his games, bad to awful the other 90%, he can't create off the dribble, and he will never defend.

  7. If you can flip THJ for 2 2nds at the tradevdeadline, you end up with 5 2nds for Grimes. Thats a pretty good trade. Grimes is due for a extension and can't stay on the floor. Had to go.

  8. Quentin Grimes only played 6 games with the Pistons this past year…….and we won 3 of those 6 games. Not saying we won because of him as he was dealing with knee injury still and his shooting was off, but I was looking forward to him getting some minutes with our young core this season when healthy. His game fits well with Cade (or Luka), and he was the only other 2-way wing we had beside Tecc. Great job by Dallas unloading THJ contract and swiping a solid player. Would have loved to just take on THJ for two 2RPs instead.
