The Denver Nuggets reportedly expressed interest in a sign-and-trade deal for Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George recently, only to back out when the asking price was deemed too exorbitant.

According to Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Clippers asked for Michael Porter Jr., Zeke Nnaji and "a significant amount of draft capital" in exchange for George, which the Nuggets balked at since they "value their draft picks perhaps as much as any other contender in the league."

George, 34, could opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this offseason if the Clippers don't either sign him to an extension or complete a sign-and-trade deal.

In addition to the Nuggets, the Golden State Warriors are rumored to have interest in George in a sign-and-trade scenario, while the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic are reportedly potential suitors if he opts out.

However, teams in the George sweepstakes have "an understanding that he wants every year and every dollar available to him by way of the league's collective bargaining agreement."

Given his recent injury history, signing George to a four-year deal would be a massive risk for any team, particularly if they have to part with significant assets in a trade like the Nuggets were reportedly asked to do.

Crazy. This was not on my radar.

Giving a 34 year old PG a 4 year max deal and giving up the picks makes this not worth it. It would be ok if we only had to give up MPJ + Zeke and only give him like 2, maybe 3 years. Even then he’s what 8 years older than MPJ?

Denver has zero plan and is just rolling around in the grass

Would’ve prob been at least 2-3 future 1s and it’s not like Denver has much draft capital as it is at this point

  4. HumongousMelonheads

The clippers must be out of their mind. This dude can leave your team for nothing, and you’re playing hardball trying to get a KD like package? Insane. They should be happy just to get MPJ in that deal

This seems kinda meaningless, like the FO just doing their due diligence like they should with any player who’s available. I’m sure it was never realistic for us to get him.

Just like I “reportedly expressed interest” in marrying Anya Taylor-Joy.

  6. Murray, PG, and Jokic would have been filthy. Nuggets kinda missed out ngl. Jokic is in his prime and PG can still give you at least 2 yrs of high level play. Plus it’s not like MPJ isn’t injury prone either. PG could also take the load of off Murray since he can creat his own shot too….unlike MPJ

There is way too much smoke around our FO rn, I suspect something big is coming, and I would bet it doesn’t have to do with anything recently mentioned by this office.

If we were to max PG along with Jamal and Joker the rest of the roster would be permanent ass

MPJ for PG straight up is a miserable deal for the Nuggs, let alone without a bunch of other assets. (not saying Zeke is an asset, god bless him)

  10. skylinerainbow

sort of wild that they are letting MPJ rumours fly now

  11. WhopperTopper143

This is risky for us but if PG stays healthy and if he’s still got a few good years of basketball left in him he raises our ceiling more than MPJ does. All of this is in a perfect world of course. It could turn out to be a complete disaster for us.

  12. He’s leaving LA regardless. LAC missed a chances. You’re getting a solid draft capital, a 25 MPJ on a solid contract with a ton of conditions to kick in for real money. That’s like an insane deal to make to move forward with your franchise future.

The best part of his deal would’ve been getting rid of that damn Bum of Zeke Nnaji

MPJ+Zeke+2031 frp. LA is not getting anything better. Yes, PG is older and has injury concerns, but Mike is one more back injury from being out of the league before he hits 30 so I don’t view either scenario as being less risky over the lifetime of their contracts. LA will come back to the table when they don’t get any better offers.

PS – I love Mike, but PG is a better player for the next 2 years. Nuggets would go from championship contender to favorite.

Pretty sure he’s a huge Broncos fan so he’d love it here

  15. I feel like PG on his podcasts always loves the bits about Jokic – including DeAndre Jordan talking about it just recently. PG from just a pure bball standpoint would be a great fit — but worry about his health and age like others point out.

  16. Temporary_Captain585

Mpj might be better than PG next season

  17. DosZappos

Bring on the downvotes, but I don’t think I’d want to trade MPJ for PG straight up

  18. alspiller08

Maybe the FO is holding out for a nice ATL deal

  19. cheekscheeks

Yeah not worth it at all. Would be crazy work to pair PG with jok but high paid superstars with egos don’t win rings

So what’s going on, are we going younger or are we going all in? Not happy with the PG and Klay rumors because it just feels like throwing everything at the wall to make a big move.

MPJ can still grow into a guy who is just as important as Murray. Don’t want to waste that for one good year of PG and three years of him injured/washed.

How many times will teams get burned before they learn? There’s ALREADY rumors KD wants out of Phoenix. Good on Booth.
