No One Is Talking About This…

the San Antonio Spurs just did what everybody expected and what nobody expected with the fourth and eighth lottery picks in the 2024 NBA draft and this is what it means for the present and the future of the franchise the San Antonio Spurs entered the 2024 NBA draft with the fourth and eighth overall picks and they were set for a significant evening but they chose to focus on the future potential rather than immediate success as they selected Stefon Castle a promising point guard with the fourth pick and then they traded the eighth pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a 2031 unprotected first round pick and a 2030 pick Swap all of which shows San Antonio’s long-term Vision rather than a win now approach Stefon Castle was an enticing choice for the Spurs and the 66 guard had a standout freshman year with the Yukon Huskies playing a crucial role in their second consecutive National Title win he averaged 11.1 points 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game earning accolades like the unanimous Big East freshman of the year and spots on the 24 NCAA East region all regional team and the 2024 NCAA Final 4 all tournament team although he struggled with three-point shooting hitting just 26.7% he maintained a solid 47.2% from the field and a 75.5% from the free throw line that said Castle stock Rose significantly after his impressive performance in the final four after he helped Yukon become the first back-to-back national champions since Florida in 2007 he scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds to against Alabama in the final four and followed up with 15 points and five rebounds in the championship game against Purdue known for his Elite defensive skills and two-way potential Castle’s primary weakness is his outside shooting however the Spurs have a history of developing defensive minded guards into well-rounded offensive players as seen with Deon Murray and Derek white and former Spurs guard and Coach Avery Johnson even mentioned on CBS Draft broadcast that castle could become a bigger version of Deon muray based on what I’ve been told uh projecting him forward they actually think he can be another Deonte Murray that’s how they feel about this kid uh because remember when Deonte came out of Washington uh and they drafted him they had to work on this shot for the Spurs betting on Stefon Casto is a move with a lot of Promise Castle is 66 and can guard multiple positions making him a versatile Defender he’s kind of like a perimeter player who sets the tone on defense and makes life easier for his teammates especially the ri protectors everyone agrees he’s one of the best defensive players in this draft while there are some doubts whether he can be a point guard in the NBA his smart play and potential are hard to ignore he might not be the main ball handler right now but he should fit nicely into Greg poic’s system the big question for Castle like many rookies is his shooting he only hit 20 out of 75 three-pointers at Yukon and in today’s NBA guards who can’t shoot well have a tough time but Castle is in a great spot to improve the Spurs have a history of turning players into great shooters from Tony Parker to Kawhi Leonard meanwhile playing with wiim bamo will let him focus on what he’s already good at now defense has always been a big deal for papovich teams and Casto is a perfect fit for that in today’s NBA there are plenty of players he could model his game after like de jonay Murray and Drew holiday even if he never becomes a top score his defense and playmaking will make him valuable at either guard spot plus he’s got the right attitude at Yukon he was willing to play any role to win a championship and he’ll bring that same mindset to the Spurs it might take some time but there’s a good chance he’ll shine in the end while Stefon Casto is a solid pick for the Spurs the front office made an even Bolder move with their eighth pick trading it away in what many experts called a weak draft and getting a future unrestricted 2030 pick and a pick swap in 2030 but these picks are so far into the future that Victor wenyama will be in his mid 20s by the time they can come into play however don’t expect the Spurs to wait that long to use these assets trading their eighth pick to Minnesota shows the different paths both teams are on the tber will see their Championship window open now after making it to the Western Conference Finals last season they wanted to add top talent immediately and trading was their best option on the other hand the Spurs still have a few years away from their window so this trade helps them prepare for the future first off trading the eighth pick freed up about 6 million in cap space by removing the cap hold this cap room will be handy in free agency potentially helping the Spurs Target a veteran or two to fill gaps they also gain an extra roster spot which they can use to take a chance on someone or bring in immediate help most importantly the trade gives the spur two assets they can use to acquire a star to pair with wenyama with 15 future first round picks over the next seven drafts there are building a strong Foundation now some fans might have been excited about Rob Dillingham no for his shooting and scoring burst he could have added some offensive Firepower to the guard position however there are concerns about his defense and playmaking abilities at Kentucky just like Rob Castle has weaknesses but another reason for the trade is that the Spurs are a rebuilding team with six players 21 or younger on guaranteed contracts including Castle this means their developmental staff already has a lot on their plate by trading the picks the Spurs are signaling a shift from focusing solely on developing Young talent to also bringing in veteran players this move is about the future but also helps the team now as they start to build a playoff team around wenyama these assets will allow them to draft proven young Talent OR package them to trade for a star the Spurs are stockpiling resources to make big moves down the road positioning themselves to pay the price when the right opportunity comes along it’s not the draft fans eager for a quick rebuild we’re hoping for but the Spurs are playing the long game this can be frustrating for fans who understandably want immediate Improvement but the front office’s vision and patience could give the Spurs the tools to build a sustainable winner the Spurs are thinking in terms of decades which means building a team that can compete at a high level for years to come this requires careful planning and strategic moves like trading for future assets and developing young Talent fans might have to wait a bit longer for the team to become a Powerhouse again but the groundwork is being laid for the long-term success now all eyeses are on the Spurs front office to use their flexibility and resour resources to improve the roster around win Bama they have a wealth of future draft picks and cap space to work with which gives them the ability to make impactful moves when the time is right the journey might be slow but the destination could be well worth it now let me know what your thoughts are on the Spurs draft moves do you think they’ll pay off in the long run and if you enjoyed the video remember to like And subscribe for more Spurs updates

  1. It was so much dillingham , Buzelis and Knecht was still on the board.Who IMO could have been excellent picks too.

  2. The true long time spurs fan should know that PATFO plan and execute for long term. They want to be competitive for years to come otherwise they have the money to bring 2-3 stars and win immediately but what do you do after a year or maybe two? Players can play next to each other (Atlanta), too much ego (old OKC) and so on… Be patient.

  3. harrison ingram is gonna be nice too. has elite role player upside and is in the perfect place with the spurs

  4. Boston cham tells us now we are back to the defensive era.. Wemby inside + castle + 4×2025 first round picks is really great. If they are looking for champ, dillingham will be a weak spot in their team. They might need a good sf, and 2 to 3 years for them to grow, and spurs will be invincible

  5. This cap space is better than Dillingham. He's not ready and can't guard. Castle can score and defend. IF he can develop his shot, he'll be a great pick up. However, Chip Engelland is in OKC and there's nobody mentioned in this video that San Antonio has developed into a great shooter without him. Losing their legendary development staff is my only concern for Castle but trust he'll have the fire and integrity to work on his game. Seeing him in an inverse PNR with Wemby would be very interesting

  6. Spurs can win immediately it’s all about wemby and when he goes next level. The league has nobody who is gonna be able to stop peak wemby

  7. Why did Brian Wright make a brilliant trade in sending Jakob Poeltl to Toronto for a lottery pick only to trade THAT pick for another pick that may not even fall in the top 20? He overthought this.

  8. But will Wemby wanna wait that long? Because I don’t see him wasting his talent here to take that long he wants to win now as he says.

  9. Then Wemby needs to go somewhere he can be champion next season. Personally, he should not sacrifice his youth, health and talent for any team's long-term vision.

  10. We need an upgrade at PF,
Zack Collins would be a team upgrade coming off the bench.
SF Sochan can’t shoot for shyt, like Collins, coming off the bench, would be a team upgrade.
The backup PG and SG needs to be upgraded as well,,,The can score but their not shooters, we need KIlla shooters
We have a LONG way to go.

  11. Our shot doctor coach, Chip Engelland, to OKC a couple years ago and havent been developing shooters the same way since 😢

  12. This guy is going to be a monster.
Wouldn't worry about his J, he shot 76% from FT(. He's eventually gonna be at least 35-36% from 3pt and that will be more than enough with the rest of his game

  13. I was talkin’ about it way before it happened. Hit the spurs up months ago on it and not saying they saw it. Watching the ncaa championship I told this dude whatever team that gets Stephon Castle better have that dude predominately running point & the squad that really needs to get him badly is the spurs. Castle off ball would be very good, allstar caliber etc but he can be one of the greatest pg’s to do it while playing combo guard. Of course the masses and others don’t truly break down “basketball” player like it’s intended and call great offensive weapons great basketball players, mvp, mvp candidates but nah not in the scope of actual “basketball” player. This isn’t the nfl and SCastle has the stroke to become a knockdown shooter on ball off ball while he’s going to be making pg’s more uncomfortable than they’ve ever been. Nba probably has CFlagg going there next year. Nba would want him in a big market but France’s nba team too….

People so sleep on SCastle and I LOVED hearing him say he’s a pg. He has the instincts, the movement just to name a couple of things

  14. Wemby would have won a chip on another team besides the pistons and that’s a fact🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

  15. My issue with the the spurs is all the “development “ they have to do. Wemby is already that guy and ready to win a championship they are diminishing his greatness with all this development

  16. People aren't talking about this because the Spurs are obviously building draft capital for some sort of trade. We'll see what they pull off in the next few weeks/months.

  17. We let Jeremy be lead ball handler, you don’t think spurs will let castle be lead ball handler this year? This is the last year where development is still the priority over winning.
