Baltimore native Bub Carrington thrilled to be drafted by Wizards | Monumental Sports Network

well bu first of all let me welcome you to the NBA and welcome you to the Washington Wizards how has this draft experience been for you so far it’s been a pretty long process but it’s all overall it’s a great feeling great process I’m happy to be here definitely happy to be in Washington so yeah feeling good I was going to say as Baltimore native is this a bit of a homecoming for you yeah I would say so it’s safe to say that yeah well with the pedigree that you have I mean you got basketball family you got basketball playing experience what have you learned over these years that has prepared you for this moment in your life to separate yourself you got to be relentless I feel like that’s one thing I’ve learned is that you got to have a mindset to where you’re not going to be stopped you know you got to do anything it takes to reach your dreams and you can tell when someone is and when someone isn’t you know and that’s one thing I learned one of the things obviously I think you’re aware of that to be successful you’re going to have to have a tremendous work ethic is that going to be one of the Hallmarks that you have carrying into your rookie season definitely I feel like I I am a hard worker I feel like I st myself as a hard worker and I feel like that’s something that’ll never change about me if there’s a particular part of your gra that you want folks to know that is going to be what they should expect when they walk in the Capital One Arena to watch you play What Would it be I would say my passion I say I feel like I’m a really good facilitator I feel like I’m someone that could get you a lot of assist a game and that’s something that people should watch out for what are you thinking right now as this draft day is going on what’s the next step for you as far as getting prepared to get into training camp Etc the next step is to um get go out to that team build a good relationship with the team build a good relationship with the coaches and play I feel like that’s the next step I was going to say excitement just to get on the court have have you had a chance you know in your draft preparation to be able to look at some of the guys on the team and just kind of survey what they’re what they’re able to do not as much but I mean that’s what the summer is for indeed now let’s get to this suit here I like the all black what’s the inspiration behind it uh black all black suit is are pretty simp suit and I’m a pretty simple guy I feel like a nothing wrong with that nickname bub where did you get it I know it but where did the fans get it from my dad you know his name was bub for as long as I can remember and uh people called me it when I was young cuz I was fat when I was young so yeah ain’t nothing wrong with trimming down we all grow out of it last question for you to the Wizards fans at home watching right now what’s the message that you want to send to them after you’ve been drafted I want to say that like I want to help turn this program around I know the front office and the staff and everything they’re talking about tur this program around I want to be a part of it I want to be a part of a winning program and that’s something I’m coming to be a part of
