ESPN Sources: Miami Heat F/C Kevin Love is declining his $4M player option, but both sides are enthusiastic about negotiating a new deal in the opening days of free agency. The five-time All-Star has played the past two seasons with the Heat.

Hope he comes back, his presence has been great.

New deal ? Shocked he didn’t just accept his player option

Maybe he’s gonna sign like a two year deal or something

  4. I rly hope he takes a discount like 3 mil + player option next year. Just bc the cap space is so tight. 1 extra mil could be the difference in us keeping Haywood

He was an awesome backup but this will probably dip into our mid-level exception, no? That’s pretty bad for us if it works how I imagine, but I’m not sure about all of the cap rules

Very interesting. I wasn’t expecting him to opt out, but it makes sense for him. Riley and the FO probably want to give him a bit more money because Love is such a great team player. We’re currently 8.64 million away from the second apron, with Thomas Bryant who still has to make a decision on whether he’s picking up his 2.84 million option, and a guarantee date for Orlando Robinson’s non-guaranteed contract for July 15. We don’t have Love’s Bird Rights, but we have several trade exceptions still available for a total of around 21+ million or more likely, we can use the TPMLE to sign him to a 5+ million 2 year contract with another player option next season.
