We were LIED TO…
we were lied to by Bobby Webster as he said he didn’t want more than two rookies going into next season and that was a lie because the Raptors continue to bring in more and more rookies trade for draft picks make signings as Messi Jerry continues to collect these young prospects these pieces and Brandon Carlson is the latest to be added to that list signed as an undrafted free agent to a two-way contract we’re going to break down who Brandon Carlson is as a two-way Prospect for the Toronto Raptors why he’s one of the more intriguing players in this NBA draft not necessarily because of lucrative upside but more so because of cool stories and how he has some NBA ready skills might be a little bit more polished than his draft selection kind of indicates and why it’s a just a cool guy that the Raptors have brought in as a to fill that two-way spot that they just let Muhammed gay go so that definitely pointed to the Raptors making some of these selections and I really really like this pickup because again let’s dive let’s dive into who he is as a player so Brandon Carlson 7 foot you know not cra crazy Uber athlete but coming out of Utah He’s a guy 7′ 220 lb 25 years old so you’re drafting this guy as a rookie not because of some lucrative insane upside the same way uh we’re looking at Erick right coming out of the NBA Africa League this guy is coming in as more I don’t want to say a finished product but a more polished player an older guy that went through the whole sort of uh steamroll of college and had some pretty intriguing stats I mean looking at the stats it’s a little bit tiny here right now but in this final season for you UT average 17 points per game uh 6.6 rebounds down from his previous season the the season prior but shot 37% from behind the three-point line which is a is a positive there or 38% if you round up at that point and he is regarded as one of those guys that’s a really really nice shooter right seven foot can space to the floor has nice touch around the basket and can do a lot of things especially in the offensive end and his his Advanced stats are looking pretty positive as well especially where there has been a lot of concern about his defense but in terms of box plus minus in terms of orb in terms of defensive winch they’re all in the positive so I mean not horrific at least in regards to the advanced stats again Advanced stats I think get used to paint wild narratives all the time always get taken out of context and don’t always tell the whole story but they are something to look at because again a lot of the trash and a lot of the bagging on this guy is because he’s not that Elite of a Defender and how he’ll translate into the NBA but he is definitely a guy that I am intrigued by especially being a seven-footer that can space the floor now the Raptors do have a guy that can kind of Mentor him here now at this point in Kelly o Lin I mean they look fairly similar I was trying to bring up that graphic instead of that one there you know similar look similar feel the long hair long tall white guy shooting threes and stuff so definitely a player that could come in and has that NBA ready three-point jump shot and NBA ready size touch especially on the offensive end but basically the scattering apports indicate him as a very interesting Prospect essentially although Carlson is already 25 years old he’s still an interesting Prospect with his ability to space the floor as a seven-footer even as that becomes more common in players across the league having bigs who can score from Beyond The Arc is still very very valuable and the fifth year senior earned all Pack 12 first team honors last season and he’s one of the better bigs in the entire country he graduated from Utah as the program’s all-time leading score in games played as well as blocked so he blocks a few shots as well which is uh you know encouraging there for a big man Prospect but when evaluating Carlson’s fit at the next level must consider his lack of athleticism he may struggle defensively in space and is more of a pick and pop threat than some teams uh will have him rolling to the rim he knocked down 38% of his triples last season on nearly five attempts per game meanwhile he converted on just over 50% of his shots inside the arc and 71% from the free throw line so a prier perimeter oriented game would really serve a niche role for a team’s rotation rather than being a nightly piece so again a guy that’s a a floor spacer can come out there do different things and some might look at that and say hey you’re just bringing in Kelly oen this is great you know Kelly oen can mentor him can do these types of things well the one thing that he doesn’t have that Kelly oenux certainly does have in his bag is he’s not that much of a facilitator he’s not that much of a passer I feel like this is a part of Kelly o Linux game and probably Raptor fans didn’t analyze the end of last season too closely just given we were tanking it was it wasn’t a great look and Kelly oin obviously uh didn’t have all the talent in a world around this Raptor group but but Kelly lenck is an elite big man passer he’s a great facilitator might turn over the ball a little bit but can dribble the ball as a big man and can facilitate and that paired alongside his three-point shot makes him a lot more valuable around there around the three-point line where as this guy kind of is going to come in cars is going to be a a strictly kind of spot up shooter isn’t much of a crazy passer in terms of what the scouting reports in terms of what they’re uh saying and we can take a look at the pros and cons list for him as a player as well basically a solid shooter for a big man has stretch big potential he’s a decent low post scorer he excels scoring off the ball in motion plays he’s a decent playmaker get not Elite like Kelly oin is at that size he’s a solid shop blocker and above average athlete which is a bit of a contradictor in terms of what the the other reports were saying but he’s a streaky shooter he can struggle to score in traffic he needs to improve his rebounding and he can struggle to guard quicker players and is old for a draft prospect so might have limited upsid so basically that’s kind of a summary that one NBA draft board essentially put out in terms of the pros and cons of him as a basketball player but again what does this mean what impact could he have on this Toronto Raptor Squad because it’s tough for these undrafted guys you know two-way contract players to have that impact and you know have things coming in but it’s not unheard of for them to have an impact I mean jonte Porter was a two-way guy then got the full-time roster looked good there from games when he wasn’t purposely selling but ended being a successful sort of big man that had an impact on the team but uh before you started tanking stuff that’s a bad example I don’t know why I’m bringing up Jon Porter here now at this point let’s hope let’s hope this man doesn’t come out and start betting against the Toronto Raptors but as a 25-year-old Prospect we know mou jer’s building this team around players that fit the Scotty Barnes RJ Barett Emanuel quickly timeline we are in a retool we are in a rebuild but we’re not necessarily looking exclusively for the youngest futurebound prospects yes we probably don’t have expectations to be a playoff Contender an Elite Squad in the Eastern Conference next season but we want to build around guys that are that 23 to 25y Old range so when Scotty Barnes IQ RJ Barrett hit their primes that’s when we have a really nice core really nice crop of players around them with certain ages and again is this player going to be uh coming out and being a guaranteed win now prospect it’s not guaranteed by any means but the fact that he is older shouldn’t really impact the Raptor’s you know lack of interest in him or or things like that we took our uh we took our uh High long leverage Prospect in ear Chom you know being that sort of big bad Prospect the center position you know the one thing you might say is hey with h with this guy coming in here right now Brandon Carlson will he eat away minutes at the development spot for a guy like chch I think chch is goingon to be in the 905 a ton obviously uh Carlson will as well be a two-way guy as well so basically you know there’s that thing to be considered but he’s more polished he can come in he can space the floor for this Toronto r rap team and we don’t know the direction we’re not we don’t know what we’re going to be doing with yaka purle in the future again there’s lots of trade rumors there’s lots of speculation about the Toronto Raptors you know potentially moving off him especially now that we acquire two Center prospects in this year’s draft right uh we have you know 31 overall section four 68 so kind of a big man probably won’t play too much Center but you know we’re loading up that for front core depth a little bit more but I’m I’m really intrigued about uh the the Raptor sort of group momentum going forward again will Brandon Carlson be a guy that’s an impact turn turn this franchise around player probably not but I’m excited to bring in just unique interesting prospects that bring different things to the game and you know big man that can space the floor look like Kelly oin I man I mean what better mentor to have you know to potentially develop your game at this point but let me know what you guys think about this draft selection again if you made it this far in the video mean the world to me if you guys hit that subscribe button 51% of you haven’t done it just yet so I’m s sh you that made it to this spot and hit that subscribe button there but anyways folks you guys best I’m signing up cheers

Finally! A 3pt shooting big. Lets hope the rest of his game is enough to earn him minutes. Finally.

Not really a lie. They didn't want to lock in too many rookies. Ie; guaranteed contracts via 1st round picks. Teams always have 8-10 rookies ready for summer camp and at least half of those make training camp with maybe 1-2 making the final squad.
He was signed 2 days ago. BC is 25 years old. He has a nice offensive game. Not physical nor athletic but highly skilled. Raps summer league team should be nice. Raptors Full Draft, UDFAs, SL Roster & SL Schedule:

This guy could become peak Steve Novak by 30. On a Vet's Minimum. 🤞
Thank you, Ben, for being the one person who doesn't lie to us.
One of the most interesting summer leagues we've had in recent years. Lots for the fans to evaluate.
Likely these signing will play summer league games only, if they’re good enough maybe they’ll get on a two-way contract
They didn’t lie. They were facing the potential of having 4 draft picks 31st and below which would mean 4 rookies on the Raptors NBA team.
They clear all two way roster spots before the draft. Walter and Mogbo will be with the Raptors and Shead and Chomche will be two way players with Raptors 905.
That’s completely different than 4 new rookies in the NBA.
Although it’s nice to have these type of players I still feel a big hole in the team is lack of athletic physical wings. I really hope we can get a few Laron Holmes type players. Need to get physical!
YEAH! YEAH! 🦖🇨🇦🦖
I think he is the replaced for Kelly Olynick. He should be ready in 2-3 years for that role.
Ayeeee
Isn't that Mike Dunleavy?
I heard Carlson’s interview on ESPN Utah and it sounds like the Raptors really liked him after he worked out for us before the draft. He said he actually came here to do his workout for the team and really liked the coaching staff and how he felt like the workout went really well because he got good feedback from the Raptors who loved his size and ability to stretch the floor or play inside. He said the raptors called him even before the 2nd round was over and told him they wanted to sign him to a 2 way deal right away. Also he said he liked the city and got to see the facilities and how he’s coming back on June 31 to train with the team and get ready for summer league. Jonay’s downfall was this guy’s biggest opportunity. I think just signed bunch of these guys because raptors really liked their game and just didn’t want leave anything on the table without getting look at them in our system. If you notice we bought even a bunch of shooters or good defenders. Even the players we signed to our summer league real like Joe Girard are shooters. This leads me to believe they’re looking to put a lot of shooters around Scottie and they’re trying to see who fits that style so they can keep them in the system on 905 and go back to developing players like the Norm Powell and Fred era.
Things evolve, so is life, if 1 or 2 forward pan out would be great. The guy from Africa is Bruno 2.0. Roster spot # 15 is open, I assume it will be left open unit Brown trade gets done. The default is Kelly O as C2
Masai & Bobby been on a heater since that OG trade. We got a whole reality show at Summer League of trying to make the team. I watched a few games of BC at Utah and I always liked his game. He reminds me of KO for real, his game is like him. I hope he makes the team since he can make 3s.
He looks like Spencer from ICarly.
Why not he looks good. Similar play to ware which people wanted.
5 years in College ball, setting records, improving his game, and 7 foot, who can shoot etc. not a bad pick. 25 is not old at all. I agree that with Kelly mentoring him, plus the coaches, he can take his game further.
Apparently Vezenkov is heading back to Europe!
2 Cs on Two-ways Carlson and Chomche?
Good move, Olynyk can tutor him. Shoring up the center position is always good.
As much i love Raptors content and creators that produce such content, sometimes I just find stuff on here to be so over the top.
The Raptors are trying to replenish the 905.
Best Rookie that the raptors got. He just makes sense and is more Athletic than he looks. Need a shooting big around Scottie.
That man ain't gonna make it. Why waste a spot on him. Not even good enough for the Spanish ACB or any team that can qualify for Euroleague. Maybe Australia, China or Japan
