‘Bronny James has been around the Lakers FOR YEARS’ – Dave McMenamin on No. 55 pick | SportsCenter

we’ll recap the NBA draft as the Lakers do have the first ever active fatherson duo we will head to LA and we have plenty of action from around the diamond we check in on the night games plus the WNBA had two star six center stage tonight AIA Wilson and Angel ree a recap of the Asus Sky game is coming up but first back to the NBA draft the first fatherson duo in NBA history to play at the same time has gone from a dream to reality today bronnie James had his name called in the second round of the draft going to the Lakers joining his dad LeBron James bronnie averaged about Five Points three rebounds and two assists in a single season at USC the guard joined the Trojans midseason after being sideline for nearly 5 months while recovering from going into cardiac arrest Rony james’ season at USC was always going to be an uphill battle after he suffered a cardiac arrest episode before the start of the season when he did come back he started in six of his 25 games averaging less than five points and two assists per game here’s Lakers JM Rob pinka on l newest edition bronnie is um first and foremost a person of High character and second he is a young man that works incredibly hard and those are the qualities we look for in drafting players and adding to our developmental core at the Lakers he had a great draft workout with us where he displayed um those qualities to me in a hour lunch that we Shar shared in the building just to get to know each other became clear that he was a man of character in terms of his work ethic I think we’ve all seen that lived out too he’s not a person that has ever taken shortcuts or expected or been entitled about basketball opportunities he’s worked for everything that he’s gotten including being selected today at 55 let’s welcome in Dave McMan who is with us from Los Angeles and Dave look we’ve known for a long time that the Lakers have had interest in bronny James for a lot of different reasons but what did the Lakers scouting Department see in bronny as he entered this draft well sh first of all they saw more of bronny James than just about any Prospect in this draft because it was of course the official pro day that clutch Sports had at the Lakers practice facility and also the times that they saw him at the combine in Chicago but he’s been coming to this building for years as the son of their most significant player LeBron James and so they kind of got a feel for who he was as an individual and clearly were able to see all of his games at USC right down the street at the galin center and so they felt like they had a really good handle of who he was as a pro uh Prospect and certainly fell in love with him the same reasons why he became a McDonald’s All-American at Sierra Canyon his basketball IQ his defensive intensity and his off the charts athleticism that they think will only be able to show itself more as he gets further and further away from the heart incident that caused him to be sidelined for 5 months from last July until the middle of the USC season so Dave now as we look ahead we’re going to see not one but two Lakers with James on the back of their Jersey we presume so at least next season so how did LeBron and his family receive this news today well they were in New York City a small gathering a dinner party I’m told of less than 20 people of course you have LeBron James there Savannah there Gloria LeBron’s mom rich rich Paul Randy Mims the close confidence of LeBron and bronny front and center and they got the call from the Lakers Rob pinka JJ reic informing them that hey you are going to be the next member of the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick bronnie had to fight back tears LeBron James led the room in a champagne toast and I’m told he got very emotional as the weight of the moment hit him this was making history in the NBA we’re talking 78 seasons were coming up on this is the first time you ever have an active father-son Duo playing the history for the James family but more so the history for bronnie the last 11 months going from needing to get a heart procedure to now realizing his dream of joining his father in the NBA yeah and with the Lakers nonetheless um I’m sure what a wonderful day for the James family we’ll see how this all goes next season season when we hopefully get to see both LeBron and his son on the court together we appreciate the time thank you Dave [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

  1. The Bucks drafted AJ Johnson 23rd overall who averaged THREE points and 1 rebound in one year playing in Australia. Yet not a word is said?

  2. Actually this maybe a steal of the draft. If he wasn’t recovering from the stroke he would be a lottery pick. Look at how he played at the Mc Donald’s all American game

  3. 😂I’m just saying if you watch Bronny through highschool to college it’s literally nothing to suggest that he should a NBA player right now not even hate call a spade a spade

  4. I would’ve done the same thing as a father. IDGAF what anyone says. I love my son! I hope Bronny will be successful

  5. Seeing these analysts & reporters hold in a huge lie through their eyes is comparable to holding in a fart at a funeral 😂

  6. Rob describing a person of no nepotism as if bronny really fits that description is hilarious

  7. I think you getting an inside look how LeBron and his agency are going to run a team and I don't think this is going to work.

  8. It was hard for Rob 2 say what he said with a straight 😑.

What he meant to say was, Bronny is exactly what we needed to keep his Lebum Dad,once he leaves Bronny is gone.

  9. Lebron owns Lakers
    Lebron owns Jeanie
    Lebron owns Rob
    Lebron owns JJ
Both Jerry Buss and Kobe are turning in their Graves
I am a Lakers fan … This is NOT THE LAKERS …. This is TEAM LEBRON , owned and run by
