The Utah Jazz WON The Draft

The Utah Jazz WON The Draft

the first day of the NBA draft is in the books and the Utah Jazz kind of went with the business as usual approach by not making any moves to move up or back in the draft though there were conversations with several teams in order to do so one player that I in particular even went so far forward as to make a video on us getting was Stefan Castle but unfortunately he ended up going to the San Antonio Spurs ironically enough and they are going to do him great Justice especially because because of that Immaculate defensive upside that he has and I can’t really wait to see what he ends up doing alongside Victor wanyama however for the Utah Jazz I do not actually find this draft to be very unsettling just because we did not end up getting Rob Dillingham or Stefan Castle things still ended up going pretty decent overall you saw them grabbing Jaylen Williams younger brother Cody Williams as well as Isaiah clier and both of them have their own positives and negatives obviously Cody Williams was grabbed at the 10th overall pick so he is the person with more upside at one point previous to this past season where Isaiah CER obviously was at USC he was expected to be the number one person in this draft but a lot of things can change over the course of an entire year and with a hand injury that he sustained that kept him out for roughly a month of the college season last year things kind of got a little bit murky and went some draft metrics came out things got even worse for him but I’m still optimistic about his opportunity to be successful at the NBA level and I think that the Jazz can make something work with him but in this video I’m going to be giving a quick synopsis on both players why I think that we took them and how I overall feel in regards to a letter grade for the first day of the draft overall with that being said go and smash that like button subscribe and turn on post notifications if you’re into NBA content as always it’s your boy wraith Hoops let’s go ahead and get into this one [Music] [Music] so with the 10th pick in this 2024 NBA draft the Utah Jazz selected Cody Williams out of the University of Colorado now he was one of four potential players that the Jazz could have selected and all of them would have been honestly very tantalizing Nicol atopic was obviously one that was really big on the board and some people really wish that we did end up naving him but I’m not necessarily mad at this particular pickup the reason being he allegedly had a really good individual workout with the team for one he also has great height length and athleticism and at the age of 19 the only thing that particularly stands out as being a major concern is the fact that he’s only 190 lb for a reference he’s 6’8 with a 7′ one wingspan so that lack of weight is kind of a strong contrast compared to his older brother Jaylen Williams who’s with the Oklahoma City Thunder but that defensive versatility and that length kind of reminds us of the switch ability that Jaden McDaniels has for the Minnesota Timberwolves and I find that to be very interesting because obviously the Utah Jazz were missing Wing depth and this really satisfies that need to a certain degree of course he’s going to need some growth and as I said he’s going to have to stur KNE up that frame a bit but I like where things are going in that respect that switch ability on defense alone along with his length and ability to be a crafty scorer at The Rim will allow for him to have a very high ceiling to start out with and I’m very impressed that they decided to go with him and I’m not mad at it at all even though I would have rather we moved up and gone with Stefon Castle because he was my favorite player in this draft specifically for the Utah Jazz this one really fits the bill and succeeds in feeling a need that they had in his lone season with the Buffalo he ended up averaging 11.9 points to go along with three rebounds 1.6 assists 7 blocks and two turnovers while shooting 55.2% from the field 41.5% from three and 71.4% from the free throw line his best known ability is obviously slashing at The Rim sneaking his way kind of getting to the basket and then craftly finding a way to get that shot off and get that bucket to go down at the same time there were some concerns with his three-point shot because obviously yes he shoots north of 41% but he only did it on roughly one three-pointer per game which is an extremely low and small sample size for somebody that spent so much time with the ball in their hands it’s not necessarily like the low Markin in type of three-point shot where he’s kind of off ball the majority of the time and most of his shots attempted are going to end up being assisted no most of them came from him creating the shot for himself which by default means that he kind of avoids being in those situations where he has to shoot threes now his mechanics aren’t necessarily wonky per se but it’s just something to keep in mind though because he shoots north of 70% from the free throw line I’m not too concerned it’s just going to have to be something that we add a little bit of consistency to and get him more comfortable with the catch and shoot scenarios as well as being in just different actions where the kickouts occur on drives but overall outside of that I feel like he has a very high ceiling and I am very pleased to see him joining the Utah Jazz Isaiah CER is a little bit more of a murky Prospect because of the injury to his hand that he experienced during the NCAA season but he did have some positives to speak of overall in the season season he averaged 16.3 points 2.9 rebounds 4.3 assists point2 blocks and 1.5 steals but the only negative was the fact that overall he averaged 3.3 turnovers things did get better when he came back from injury but during that first stint of the Season his decision- making was a little bit questionable where he placed the ball and how he placed the ball going through his reads was a little bit wonky as well but I’m not necessarily the most harsh on him for it because when he came back during that last stint of the NCAA season he looked pretty solid to me his decision- making was up he was less turnover prone though he still had a couple issues here and there and honestly things just looked a little bit better now he shot 49% from the field and shot 33.8% from the three-point line on three attempts per game to go along with 67.3% from the free throw line on 5.8 attempts per game so I’m a little bit concerned about his shooting touch because obviously 33 8% isn’t terribly low but it’s not necessarily what you want to see out of your lead guard potentially and for the fact that he also shoots in the 60s as a guard on significant attempts from the free throw line doesn’t really bod much better because that means his mechanics might just in general be a little bit more of than we’re comfortable with enjoying having on the roster the one thing that Executives were saying as to the reason for him to drop because originally obious obviously before the colle season ever started he was expected to be the number one pick in this draft and then it kind of slipped out to 10 and then it got to late Lottery then it became early 20s at worst and then obviously he fell to 29th overall and then ended up being selected by the Utah Jazz but one of the reasons why in particular was the fact that he was listed as being 6’5 in 210 lbs on that USC roster he wasn’t 6’5 the man was 6 6′ 22 and with that was with him being without shoes and he also weighed 24 lb which isn’t bad that’s a very sturdy frame but that’s a significant difference going from a 2 and 1 12 inch change to go along with the fact that he does not have the strongest wingspan considering that he’s only having a wingspan of 6’4 and 3/4 of an inch which isn’t necessarily the most lovely thing to see if that makes sense because that effect ially means that his wingspan is smaller than the original height that they lied and slotted him as and I understand making certain players look ballooned a little bit and so they can have more opportunities at the highest level of basketball so they’ll look down more positively in the light of other people at least passing the eye test but the issue was also his maximum vertical was 34 in which wasn’t bad obviously but it just wasn’t particularly great he did end up working out for eight different NBA teams and turned down several other workouts and ironically enough the Utah Jazz were not one of the teams that he even worked out with which kind of caught him by surprise but he did have a little bit of rapport with keontay George because back in the day they actually used to work out together in the same gym but outside of that things just weren’t necessarily the greatest when it comes to other lead analysts talking about his shortcomings obviously I stated before that a big one for them has been his lack of proper decision- making especially early on in his college career and though he did end up cleaning stuff up with poor free throw shooting coupled as well makes things a little bit more concerning because his athleticism was able to make him an elite Prospect in high school and it was able to make him a great Prospect in college but at the NBA everybody’s as athletic as that young man is if not more so and if he’s going to have to knife through the trees and get the job done the question becomes can he get it done when it matters and can he create a reliable jumper to bail him out and put him into position to allow him to have a more successful evening on a game by game basis Justin zanic in that front office feel as though that he can and they weren’t too concerned with his overall mechanics they said the percentages were obviously a little bit concerning for obvious reasons but that alongside his turnover proness can be easily remedied with their shooting coaches and then with the scheme that they run putting him in two positions to make proper reads with the easiest way possible being put out in front of him in a simple plan that he’ll be able to understand that’s not to insult his intelligence but that’s also to put him into a position to where he doesn’t have to overcompensate for not being able to do certain things on the court and instead he can follow a simple scrumped game plan and build his knowledge off of that within the Utah Jazz’s organizational systems I believe that between these two young men these are very reliable picks I think that Cody Williams will reliably end up being a starter as long as he continues to develop the way that I think he’s potentially capable of Isaiah CER looks more like a sixth man to me than a starting caliber point guard but if they do manage to actually get the job done and cut down on his turnovers I could see him at least coming into this season being a more reliable point guard than Keon jores which would allow Keon jores to play that offg guard position which was something that’s more comfortable to him going back to his college days because even last year though he had positives that were really Peak at some point at that point guard position having a double double a couple of times with assists he still had a lot more negatives and he was terrifically turnover prone so they have similar issues Kean is a better three-point shooter in my opinion particularly off of the dribble ironically enough but I think that Keon will end up taking a step forward and that will by default allow Isaiah CER to take a step into his own coming at to this NBA level and who knows he could end up being one of the steals of the draft but let me know what you guys think in the comments below I personally believe that this day one at the moment I’m feeling a b maybe a B+ I’m not 100% sure I know for certain I don’t want to give it an a because it wasn’t anything crazy worth giving an a it was just an acceptable outcome to be had and bar any changes I would like to say that they did a pretty decent job and I give them a comfortable B for the draft overall depending on how day two goes but like I said let me know what you guys think in the comments below are you content with these picks was there somebody else that you would have preferred to have did you want us to trade up trade back or do you think that there’s going to be something that comes into play on day two of the draft that makes things a little bit more interesting as always it’s your boy R Hoops go and smash that like button subscribe and turn on post notifications if you’re into NBA content follow my socials below and as always good morning good evening and good night no matter where you’re on the glob watching thanks for tuning in and I’ll catch you guys in the next one peace [Music] [Music]

In this video we discuss the day one draft picks of the first round for the Utah Jazz, who ended up being Isaiah Collier and Cody Williams. They both have upside in their own rights with Cody Williams being selected with a 10th overall pick and Isaiah Collier being selected with the 29th overall pick after sliding through the draft due to his size and turnover/shooting woes overall it was a solid day for the Utah Jazz and I would grade their first two picks of the 2024 NBA draft as a B or B+.

  1. I like both our picks! I’m actually hyped we got Isiah collier at 29, and Cody Williams was who we wanted, Tony jones said even if we had 1st pick we would have got Cody Williams cause he was our guy

  2. One of the odd things is that Danny said he wasn't going to have 5 or 6 or so 1 and 2 year players this year. Not sure he can meet that.

  3. I’m sure we tried to reasonably move up but for 10 and 29 picks this draft is exceptional. Cody is skinny Quai Lenard and Isaiah gives Brunson vibes. You never know but I see a great possible upside both young and have time to work on weaknesses in their game.

  4. The options you were thinking about were just fine. But it's true: this is an amazingly flat draft-where the difference say, 6-20, is not that great. Good to concede the Jazz still did okay. I suspect they were trying to get Castle on the cheap if possible. That's the Ainge Way, innit, lol. If we could have moved up for THT and Samanic, we'd have done it.

  5. The Jazz easily had the best draft out of any team. I had Cody Williams at 4 on my bigboard and would have been happy if they traded up for him so to get him at 10 was amazing. Then they went and got Collier at 29 who like you said at the beginning of the year was the number 1 pick and who I still had ranked in the top 20 for the draft, so the fact that he fell all the way to the Jazz is just mindblowing. To add on to that for today the Jazz picking Filipowski in the second round was a great pick as the Jazz needed to add another bigman and he will give them something different at Center compared to Kessler. Which is a huge advantage for a team to be able to switch to either a defensive monster or an offensively skilled hub at the 5.

  6. Well I dont know much about these guys, so I guess we will buckle up and get comfortable as these are the kids that will take the team through the #TankNote era.

  7. I was so sure we weren't bringing in 3 rookies, guess I'm having crow.
That being said all 3 players drafted were excellent picks especially where they taken.
This also kinda clears up whose leaving and THT and Potter are likely gone, Juzang might be gone too. Also might mean the two JCs (Clarkson and Collins) are on the trade block
