coverage starts an hour before some of these deals are going to hit the news 400 p.m. Eastern 1:00 Pacific is when our show gets underway and you see the prompt here name a free agent you want the Sixers to sign we’ll see you tomorrow live I hope but for now let’s take a look at these free agency targets so we’re finally here and we started talking about this after the Philadelphia 76ers lost game six in the first round to the New York Knicks how this is going to be a pivotal off season a massive off season for Daryl mury and this front office for Nick nurse and this coaching staff for Joel mbid tyes Maxi and the Sixers team you have all this cap space you have the Boston Celtics winning an NBA championship the New York Knicks swinging for the fences making home run move after home run move starting with Jaylen Brunson a couple of years ago bringing in Dante Devan chenzo Josh Hart Mel Bridges bringing back ogn and Obi now it’s time for Philadelphia to make a big splash here’s everything that you need to know about free agency by the way as a little bit of a primer before we get started by dissecting these Sixers free agent targets June 29th the deadline to decide on team and player options that is big for Paul George and the deadline 5:00 tonight June 30th teams can negotiate with all other upcoming free agents beginning at 6:00 p.m. Eastern that’s why we’re going live an hour before free agent agcy gets underway and then July 6th is when teams May begin signing free agents to contracts at 1201 p.m. Eastern so you could see a player agree verbally to a deal and then spurn that team kind of like what Frank Gore did to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL a few years ago but June 30th is really that official start date of NBA free agency as for the Sixers offseason profile they are projected to have $55 million in cap space they can get up to $72 million in cap room the current roster it’s not a deep one Joel embi Paul Reed on a non-guaranteed contract Ricky Council and Jeff dton on a team option in the draft this week first round Wednesday second round Thursday drafted Jared McCain the Sharpshooter out of Duke and then ADM Bona 41st overall a big out of UCLA next up Sixers free agent targets here Tyrese Maxi restricted free agent he is going to get that Max from Philadelphia Tobias Harris the Sixers have his bird rights the same can be said for Buddy heeld Nick patum DeAnthony Melton Robert Covington and then Kyle Lowry Mo bomba Kelly UB and campaign nonb bird rights there but you can screenshot this you can send it to your friends you can utilize it for useful information for yourself those are the 76ers free agents going into this period here and hopefully we’ve talked about this here on the show myself and Chip Philadelphia brings back Kelly UB at the Wing Spot Nick Batum as a backup four sometimes a stretch five and Kyle Lowry that’s at the very least I would like to see those three veterans come back and without further Ado who could Philadelphia sign here and make a big splash with Paul George is the top n ba free agent in many people’s eyes he does have a player option with the Clippers has to decide on that here on Saturday and it’s that 5:00 p.m Eastern Saturday deadline for him because he’s out there on the west coast it’s going to be 2 p.m. Pacific and that is a $ 48.8 million player option has strong interest from teams with cap space and the 76ers and the Orlando Magic and also a team like the Golden State Warriors who have made Paul Jor gge at the Forefront of their Marquee Target this off season Steph Curry is still balling they want to get him another star they might lose Klay Thompson if they replace him with Paul George it makes the Warriors very interesting and what makes the Sixers interesting for PG they can offer him a boatload of cash four years $212 million a lot more than what the Clippers can offer him per Mark Stein the Warriors have really prioritized their pursuit of George above all other business that’s huge that’s from Mark Stein this is from Brian wior to my mind there’s only three real options that I know about that Paul George really has stay in La which I would still put as the highest percentage chance of happening stay in La for similar to what Kawhi Leonard got you could opt in in trade probably to the Warriors The Warriors I know are interested in this third he can sign straight up with the Sixers so from some of the more Marquee and well trusted 76ers uh or excuse me NBA insiders they’re saying that the 76ers have a shot chip on Paul George and we know about his future tonight as far as if he opts into that player option which goes a long way in determining what he’s going to do obviously if he opts out he becomes an unrestricted free agent free to sign with any squad yeah and that’s why what he decides to do tonight is so big because if he he opts into that player option I seriously doubt the Sixers are going to be in on Paul George because now all of a sudden you have to trade for him in addition to giving him an extension I think the sixer Sixers will rather just give him the money sign him in for agency so if he declines that option that’s big because that really eliminates the Warriors as an option for Paul George now you still could maybe work out a sign and trade and you know see what happens there but it’s much easier for him to opt in because if he opts out it’s really just the Sixers or the magic are contenders with cap space magic still team being linked to Paul George but you know all these reports the Sixers were in not in anymore now they’re back in if Paul George does opt out to me that means he’s looking to sign with the Sixers so again just be on the lookout for that 5 PM Eastern we will know pretty much the future of Paul George tonight before free agency really does start tomorrow and as we always like to say here on this show as Sixers fans we’ve come to the harsh reality that we are ready to be hurt if Daryl M swings and misses it’s going to be a disappointment but I’m embracing myself for that I’m also ready for darl Mory to be a mover and Shaker here this offseason where will Paul George play in 2024 2025 predict it for us down in the comment section that is the huge question right now free agent Target number two cavius Caldwell Pope we did pass along some news about his situation with the Denver Nuggets on Thursday during the NBA Draft when he decided to decline that $15.4 million player option I think he thinks that he can go somewhere on a multi-year deal because team’s value as defense his three-point shooting ability to run the floor him being a championship player and piece before and he also thinks that in addition to more years he can get some more money here’s Mark Stein’s latest reporting on kcp sources say Philadelphia and Orlando are weighing runs calwell popee with that cap space if as increasingly expected he to cleanse that $15.4 million player option with the Nuggets to enter free agency and field richer offers obviously that last line ended up happening happening and I think it’s going to be able to field some of those richer offers Tim McMahon saying the Nuggets will not be entering a bidding war you think about all of the money that they’re already paying Jamal Murray Nia yic and Michael Porter Jr it’s not like Aaron Gordon is a cheap player so they’re not going to overpay for somebody remember when Mike Malone the head coach during the championship parade was saying Bruce CB he ain’t going anywhere he’s talking about Bruce Brown he ended up signing with the Pacers and he got a bag so for kcp if teams offer something out of the Nuggets price range the Nuggets aren’t going to say we’re going to match that offer they’ll say sayara and thank you Matt Moore and NBA Insider saying that the magic could offer kcp2 years $50 million and for him I think it’s going to come down to which team do you want to go to and what situation do you want do you just want to get $25 million per year and play on a playoff team do you want to maybe take a little bit less and play on a playoff team with better Championship odds in the Philadelphia 76ers 10 points per game last year 46% from the field 40 a half% from three that would be a great piece with the current construction of the stars on this team free agent Target number three and the Sixers interest in Klay Thompson is starting to pick up some steam is the Golden State Warriors Sharpshooter who isn’t the same defensive player that he once was but can still at least get the job done at times on that end of the floor Sam amch saying there remains no official contract offer and little contact between Thompson and the Warriors League sources said as the potential end of his 13-year run with the franchise becomes more plausible a league Source said Philadelphia does have interest in clay my big question for clay is what is the asking price going to be how much is he going to get is he going to get 25 to $30 million because for a 34 year-old who’s showing some signs of decline offensively defensively and physically I would be very worried about giving him that much money if he ends up playing like he did two years ago where he averaged nearly 22 points per game almost 44% from the floor and 41% from three and he can give you solid defense then that’s a worthy investment but the defensive plus minus has gone down over the last several years the defensive rating as we’re showing you here some problematic Trends in 2014 2015 that’s when the warriors were on that dynastic run and he was at the peak of his PO defensive rating was 10 3.6 here we are almost 10 years later and of course the defensive rating is worse but it’s worse pretty significantly and it’s gotten worse every year pretty much this past year it went from 103.6 in 20145 to 117.8 free agent Target number four and this is a player who could fit the Sixers price point a little bit better is Gary Trent Jr formerly of the Toronto Raptors a play who Nick nurse has some familiar familiarity with from a couple of years ago and there is that familiarity with nurse which could help things but there is some chatter that Gary Trent Jr and Nick nurse did not get along and obviously if Philadelphia doesn’t end up signing him that could be the reason why I think this is one of those athletic Wings who could be a good piece on a really solid team he of course isn’t going to be one of your Marquee options but he can certainly get the job done I liked him in Portland I like them with Toronto it really depends on the fit I do think fit is important last year under 14 points per game but 39% from three with a little bit of volume there and as an active Defender NBA University Gary Trent led the NBA in wideopen three percentage this year 51.3% what did I say on a lot of volume 228 three-point attempts he shot 27.1% on all other threo attempts 225 of them so a good sample size both ways the largest split of any player in the league between wide open and contested threes disproportionately valuable for an offense that generates open looks when you play with Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid you can get open looks and could he sync those open looks on this team tus Jones coming in at number five here and this is a player who we’ve talked about a couple of times here on the show more of a trade Target for Philadelphia back last year going into the deadline when we thought that they needed another ball handler and then even the season before that we talked about him here on the show the Wizards just drafted Carlton Carrington and then they traded for Malcolm brogon I think that’s a sign that they’re going to move on from tus Jones who’s going to be able to get paid on the open market this is a guy who with the Memphis Grizzlies a couple of years ago when johnar was out the Grizzlies played well they won games and tus Jones was their starting point guard last year on just a despicably bad Wizards team 12 points per game seven assists I mean that points per game assist ratio is really good at only 29 minutes per night so if you’re looking for a backup point guard behind Tyrese Maxi a guy who can run your second unit my goodness he can do that solid Defender very efficient almost 49 and 41% from the field and from three-point r so let’s ask you this the 76ers biggest need is what I think it’s at the wing I’m interested to see what their strategy is a backup center after uh making the move for Adam Bona in the draft which brings us to Andre Drummond I think that he could be a really good backup center but what is the development of adona going to be do the Sixers think that he’s ready to play right now or for a guy who picked up a basketball and started playing the sport at 133 does he need some seasoning despite drafting him in the second round I think that you could see the Sixers bring in a veteran big and Andre Drummond played excellent for this team prior to him being involved in that Ben Simmons James Harden trade a few years ago 17 minutes per game last year keep that in mind 17 minutes per game not a lot of time and yet he’s still averaging eight points and N rebounds he’s one of the most active rebounders in the game and this isn’t a hyperbolic statement in this generation over the last decade he’s been one of the best rebounding bigs that we’ve seen in the NBA there’s a lot of traction and a lot of chatter behind the Sixers interest in Naji Marshall this could be one of those classic darl Mory signings where they find a player and he ends up breaking out a little bit he’s kind of an analytical darling big body for the defensive end of the floor and then not a bad three-point shot you just hope that the three-point numbers can go up a little bit Evan cidy saying the Pelicans preparing to lose him in free agency as a strong Market is expected for The Versatile Wing everybody’s looking for three and D Wings right because that position is very important for a playoff run teams with cap space such as the Pistons Sixers Spurs strong contenders to uh contenders to secure Marshall away from New Orleans he’s a very underrated player and was an underrated player for the Pelicans and he’s only 26 years old and he’s somewhat local because he grew up in Atlantic City last year with the pels 19 minutes per game I think these numbers could be a little bit better if he goes to a different team just because you think about where that Pelicans team was with herb Jones you know they’re really set at that Wing Spot Trey Murphy uh so seven points per game three and a half rebounds under two assists almost 39% from three 46% from the field that’s a valuable type of three and D Wing rotation piece if the Sixers want to get a good athlete at the forward spot Obi toppen is a walking Human Highlight Reel I don’t really like how often times he gets lost in moments on the defensive end of the floor he’s not going to shy away from shooting the ball he does have that corner three and has started to develop that part of his game from when he was at Dayton the Pacers tendered the qualifying option to topen making him a restricted free agent so they’re showing some value maybe bringing him back if they want to match that deal that he gets Matt Moore saying that toppen wants 15 plus million annually if he could take that next sleep with the athlete that he is 15 million you could certainly do worse with your financial allocation with the dollars 10 points per game last year in what was definitely a career Year 57% from the field 47 or 40 Point uh excuse me 40.3% from the three-point line was that an outlier is that a sign of things to come because before that the three-point shot was not good at all and he was looked at as a little bit of a disappointment for New York Caleb Martin an unrestricted free agent and he’s going to have a market because once again teams are looking for wings like him who can defend two years ago during that heat run of the NBA Finals he was excellent in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics one of the MVPs of that Heat team he declined a seven .1 million player option and it’s funny what happens with these player options PJ Tucker $1 million player option of course he’s going to opt in because he’s not going to get that Elsewhere for Martin Caleb’s looking at 7.1 and he’s saying I’m going to opt out because I can get way more than that on the open market last year there were high expectations for him coming off that playoff run I’d say that he was a little bit disappointing or at least not as good as what maybe people had thought he was going to be in 2023 2024 10 points per game 43% from the field less than 35% from three-point range and that was coming off that playoff push in which in those 23 games as the heat lost in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets averag nearly 13 points per game and almost 53% from the field and 42% from three had a couple of big Baseline Hammers and big three-point shots in defensive plays again against Boston I want players who have no fear against Boston and I love that heat culture Malik Beasley our 10th player who we’re going to talk about on today’s show a very very good three-point shooter who I actually wanted the Sixers to sign last free agency cycle Chris Haynes Beasley has played his last game for the Milwaukee Bucks so he is going to leave Milwaukee he is going to go elsewhere after signing with Milwaukee and it was a move that I applauded Milwaukee for because a guy who can hit threes on that team with Damen Lillard and Giannis that’s a good fit right there he played very very well in 2023 2024 he was durable he played 79 games he averaged 11 points per game and of course you look at the three-point numbers he’s consistently been one of the better three-point Shooters in the game as a rooll reserve and spot starter over the last few years elsewhere other top free agents here some players with name value of course Demar D rozan miles Bridges Isaiah hartenstein Russell Westbrook Jonas valent chunes D’Angelo Russell Patrick Williams could be a three andd player who Daryl mury could like Jaylen Smith sadik Bay and Monte Morris there’s Simone fonio hopefully I pronounce that right reyce O’Neal precious auua trenden Watford and then James wisman the former number two pick from the draft back in what was that 2020 at this point so a lot of different options here chip just like the draft there isn’t a lot of star power um you know you have to imagine LeBron James obviously going to go back to the Lakers because they hired us podcast partner and JJ reick but your favorite free agent option here for Philadelphia yeah for me no doubt it’s cavius calwell pope now hopefully his price doesn’t continue to Skyrocket I mean the magic being being willing to offer him 25 million a year it’s getting a little bit pricey but that’s what these kind of players cost so look if you get Paul George then maybe you signed some of these lower level players I still like Naji Marshall a lot with their mid-level exception I think he’s a player they could definitely Target jonis valan Chun is a backup center if you don’t get Andre German I like German better because you know you already kind of have he can kind of Mentor um Adam Bona they’re kind of similar mold of player whereas jonis valent chunis you know he’s more of that Bruiser offensive oriented Center not really a defensive Center I think ger would be a little bit of a better fit I do like Patrick Williams as you said he is restricted so the Bulls can match any offer he gets but there’s been reports that they’re not really willing to pay up that much for him so Patrick Williams former what fourth overall pick could be a good three and D guy Monty Morris Royce O’Neal another 3 and D Wing so not too many crazy options available out there in for agency but again if you can get like a combination of role players say say you can’t keep Kyle Lowry I’d be cool with getting tyus Jones yeah cavius calwell Pope you bring back Nick patum bring back Kelly UB you sign Naji Marshall and then all of a sudden you sign Drummond you got a pretty solid roster there so while there may not be these Stars they can get in for agency there’s a lot of solid role players the Sixers can land Daryl Mor is saying that they plan to be the best team in the East next season so he obviously has some plan cooking up for free agency maybe through through trading as well so Daryl M you got some options let’s see what you do with it man let’s see what you do with it yeah and that classic patented darl mury voice yeah you know we plan on being the best team in the NBA this year prove me wrong man prove me right I don’t know I’m tired I just want the Sixers to win games That’s it man that’s all just could past the second round stop being owned by Boston and please can we not enter this era now where you haven’t Beat Boston in the playoff series since the 1980s and now just don’t get owned by the Knicks I mean please I I just can’t take that if I’m a lifelong Sixers fan and my team is getting owned by New York and Boston it’s going to be hard for me I’m I’m gonna seek help name a free agent you want the Sixers to sign join us live tomorrow 4
