NEW Boston Celtics Rumors on 2024 NBA Draft, Zach Edey & NBA Free Agency | Mailbag

[Music] what’s going on Boston Celtics fans iow am your host Ally Barefoot I want to come on here and break down your questions on ahead of the NBA draft I want to answer some questions about the Boston Celtics offseason because I get it they just won the NBA finals and it’s hard to really remove yourself from celebrating a very long awaited award for this Boston Celtics team but we do have to move on the NBA draft being Wednesday and Thursday of this week and then free agency starts on Sunday so with that being said let’s go ahead and answer some of your questions ahead of the draft and the offseason coming in here from the main man Tyler Smitty and his beautiful beautiful burner so if you guys weren’t aware the Boston Celtics actually have number 30 and number 54 in the NBA draft here in those first two rounds so Smitt is wondering who should the Celtics take with the number 30 pick we actually put out a video today on our Channel excuse me on Friday on our Channel talking about uh ESPN’s mock draft does have pom daier going at number 30 for the Boston Celtics and then we also have number 54 we got Antonio Reeves who could also be another prospect there and believe it or not I have seen a couple of rumors out there that maybe a bronnie James type of situation at number 30 could possibly be in play here but you know Smith I know that this is obviously your question here and I know that you are a huge NBA and college basketball fan here and there’s a lot of great town out there but in my opinion this draft doesn’t scream out to me that there’s like this one player the Boston Celtics have to get with pick number 30 well you know you got to let the chips fall where they may the uh Celtics obviously have the last pick of the first round so there’s going to be 29 other players selected before their pick is up uh a guy around that range that I’m looking at is definitely a Ryan Dunn at a VA um looking like potentially the best on ball Wing defender in this draft and you know if you could turn a guy who doesn’t need the ball on his hands into a valuable player for the Celtics who Pride themselves on defense and and shooting the three ball you make him into a three and D guy I’d love a pick like that uh also Oso igodo from Marquette is another guy who I think is a really switchable Defender he moves the ball around and and he can play in space so those those two guys are are two of the names that I have on my radar right now as far as names who will probably be around at pick 30 and hopefully uh the Celtics can take advantage of that when they come by with a little bit of a draft slip by those two once you like you said you know pick number 30 it’s going to be kind of dealer’s choice at that point but that’s with the price you pay when you man I’m not mad at this at all but I was actually talking to Smitty about this and it is kind of hard because you want to embrace what just happened for the first time in 16 years but you also still have to figure out how to run it back and I do think thankfully the Boston Celtics are in a really good situation right now to kind of bask in both and they know how to move forward Brad Stevens didn’t sleep between winning the NBA finals and working out four players for the Boston Celtics ahead of that so if you want to check out who those four players are we have it right now in Celtics today by Chad Sports so I think honestly Brad Stevens at the front office needs to make that transition I think the players can honestly take maybe a week or two to really bask in this have their offseason go to Cancun enjoy vacation with their families they 110% deserve it because the Celtics are in a great position where they’re able to retain the starting five starting six possibly even the top seven of this Boston Celtics basketball team so do not get it twisted Brad Stevens never sleeps lore coming in here # Celtics who should who should they sign in free agency there’s a lot of uh pretty good positions they can fill here in free agency you know I’ve always kind of looked at adding just a little bit more size when it comes to the paint you know you got Horford 38 years old who really stepped up and according to rumors looks like he’s coming back then you saw porzingis with that injury there Luke cornette not really being the the type of player that they felt a lot of trust in in the NBA Finals so you could always go out and get a bigger guy like an Andre Drummond just to kind of put there on that third spot in the depth chart when it comes to that Center position I’m always on F I’m always on board here with adding more Wing depth as well or possibly even another guard in that type of situation so there are several players that can pick up here in free agency but we’re going to have a lot of those videos coming out later this week uh talking about who they could be looking at once free agency does start on Sunday Amanda Teresa coming in do you think if we ran it back from from last year do we win are we talking about like what just happened in 2024 cuz absolutely those starting five players are set to return Al Horford’s set to return pton Pritchard recently signed a contract extension before the season started so I think they absolutely could even when I saw yesterday Alex Caruso got traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and I’m like damn that really makes the Thunder a really good basketball team adding that defender on their roster so with that being said it’s going to be tough but I’m immedately thinking okay what do these players what do these teams need to do to be able to compete with us cuz Banner 18 was one thing but the Dynasty is probably what they’re going to be searching for next and that has start next year with that being Celtics Draft Zack Ed um with the number 30 pick it it could be possible I see Ed kind of going towards the end of the first round so it it could possibly work out in their favor I don’t know if I’m the biggest Edy fan uh I think he had has a lot of attributes that will translate well to the NBA but I think there’s a lot of stuff he could possibly need to really work on before he does come to a team like the Boston Celtics like I said I’m always a fan of adding that size down low I love adding withd in the paint I love the wing depth so when you do pull a player like Zach Edy I think that he’s definitely one of the more well-known names in the NBA Draft so I wouldn’t be surprised the Celtics if he’s still on the board at number 30 would at least have some interest in it but he could be that player that goes in between like 15 and 25 which is unfortunate when you got the number 30 pick is that you’re really just going to have to take a dealer’s Choice when you have 29 players that go ahead of you here so I could see them possibly ending up with Zack Edy if he is still on the board but Brad Stevens man he is a genius so whoever he drafts I’m going to assume it’s probably the best case scenario for the Boston Celtics coming in here Ed Robins who do we need to resign and who will not sign out of the list um unfortunately I don’t see the Boston Celtics resigning Luke cornette um I just don’t know if this is a a player that they want to keep in in the future I’m not sure you know him entering free agency you have Sam Hower entering free agency as well same with s Muk honestly I could see the Celtics not resigning any of those players if I were to resign somebody I would resign Sam Hower I think that his defense and the catch and shoot ability is just unparallel and I do think he’s one of those players that if you do give up is’s going to be a huge resource on any other team so hopefully I think we resign Sam Hower but I don’t see us reigning Luke cornette which is a little unfortunate here but uh you know that is the business excuse me Celtic rad are coming in what are positions of need for the Celtics after winning what do we need to get better at uh I I primarily look at you’re going to look at Wing depth you’re going to look at Center depth and you’re going to look at shooting guard depth that’s kind of where I’m at because right now you got Derrick White at that shooting guard position then you have Sam Hower and with Sam Hower entering free agency and there’s no guarantee they’re going to end up reiding him or keeping him on the roster they’re going to have to really be searching pretty hard in free agency or a trade to be able to refill that shooting guard position I love the wing depth position you got Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum as there in there as well but then it kind of falls off after that and then like I said if you don’t reassign Luke cornette then you got porzingis and Al horer but we just saw the negative side of porzingis and that is injury so when you have somebody like that Al Horford played tremendous but then you also got Xavier Tillman who’s entering free agency as well so there’s going to be a lot of moving Parts here but the good news is that most of this is just role players that they’re going to have to try to weed in and weed out here and the starting five seems to be pretty stable I got a question here for you guys name a player you want the Boston Celtics to draft going ahead drop that name down below there are several great talent coming into the NBA here in the NBA Draft so so go on ahead name a player that you guys want to be on the Boston Celtics next year after 2024 NBA draft coming in here from Ali burn what position should Brad Stevens prioritize at the draft like I said just once more I’m always a huge fan of adding more siid I love the pain position I’m getting a little worried about Al Horford being 38 years old he’ll turn 39 in the season and they will pour zingus with injury so if I’m Brad Stevens I’m looking at the big guys I’m looking at those young athletic humongous guys you got to look at Brandon psky and Trace Jackson Davis those were two players that immediately came in and made an impact Off the Bench of the Golden State Warriors even psky and Trace Jackson Davis starting for the Warriors at some point in this season so if they can end up getting a nice 6′ seven between 6′ n player that’s got a good WID on them great on ball Defender I mean I think you’re going to end up really winning this draft at pick number 30 if you get some size that can
