Why would he have a meeting set with the Clippers? Teams have been free to negotiate with their own players for weeks right? He could have been meeting with them all this time, no?

Just realized that the Clippers are in the exact same situation that Sixers were in last year with Harden. Everyone was debating whether they should just max Harden because if they didn’t and he left, they would have no cap space to replace him. Clippers are now in exact situation. Harden opting in actually was helpful to the Sixers and PG doing the same would have likely been helpful to the Clippers. They now either have to cave in and give him a max, putting them well in luxury tax and possible the two aprons, or let him leave and not have much space to replace him.
This is gonna be a hell of an off-season
