Post-Draft Availability l Bobby Webster – June 27, 2024

so was having uh the first pick of the second round everything you thought of it would be in more I don’t know if I’d wish this one every year it’s a it was a bit of a stressful night now it’s fun to um you know take in all those offers I think you know it’s uh it’s part of the job and it’s one of the um you know few times you’re sort of the the center of the at least the NBA trade world so a lot of offers um obviously we we chose to take the pick uh we made it kind of you know some other moves that we not talk talk about here but um just the flexibility I think helped us out tonight in all seriousness was that like is there any situation that you’ve been while you’ve been here that you could compare to like just sort of the transactional attention via godo um like around the lake a pretty busy trade h no I think it was probably easiest with the pck some one of the one of the other GMS told me he said uh you know he said Bobby the good thing is that there’s no emotions uh attached to draft picks so um I think those conversations they a little easier to have when you know a bunch of draft picks as opposed to players and whatnot got a lot of different FS you had to go go into the process B fill guard Shooters bigs that kind of no I think it’s you know some of the things we’ve talked about probably over the course of the past six months which is just maintaining some of the flexibility over the course of the summer um having the chance to be opportunistic in some of you know in deals as they come about and so so um you know we’ll continue to do that this summer but that’s more of what it was about you mentioned not very emotional it looked like Scotty was kind of emotional when you made that pick uh how did he help in that process I’m sure you spoke to him about it and what feedback did you get from him and was that like for you guys you know it’s it’s funny you think back I think we didn’t realize maybe or at least for myself the the closeness of their relationship until obviously after we started watching him um I think I remember I went to watch him you know maybe in March at the West Coast Conference tournament um and I’d come back and I actually didn’t know how their relationship is I kind of you know made the comment to Scotty and I could tell that he had a relationship with him uh but I think listen around the league a lot of guys grow out playing with each other and I think those relationships are um you know fun to see from afar but you can probably imagine like the basketball has to work and we have to like him as a player and all of that and so I think that just by doing that it creates a basis for that relationship to be fun and I’m sure they enjoy it um what he kind of has to fit as a basketball player first what did you like about Jonathan and why I mean did you choose to use a pick on him especially that pick which sounds like there was a lot of options there yeah it probably feels like a bit more of a Raptor’s pick right a kind of a athletic Wing who can do a little bit of everything there’s probably some development curve for him shooting wise um but I think physically NBA bodies 67 68 220 pounds can really run can really jump um so that felt like us you know sort of the makings of a a two-way Raptor wing and so obviously there’s a you know pretty um you know meaningful runway for him to get there um but I think his journey for those of you who know it’s six foot kid out of high school and kind of grows into it doesn’t have a ton of exposure two junior colleges um kind of ends up in you know University of San Francisco and you know feels a bit more like some guys we’ve drafted over the years you can’t talk about other stuff but obviously the Big 12 is seems like a conference you Scout pretty closely I mean what do you think about about that I don’t know Walter is obviously the guy you can talk about but yeah same stuff with with jacobe you know winners toughness two-way guys um come from winning programs so uh yeah probably a lot of it applies to um you know whoever we end up with have you made any decision on Bruce uh you know we wanted to get through T tonight obviously we’ve it’s been a decision we’ve been thinking about um so we have until I believe midnight tomorrow and I’m sure everyone will find out here no you we can’t talk about at least a couple of those second round picks but I mean obviously you’re a team that values flexibility and to be able to restock the pipeline with some guys in the second round and and not be bound to guaranteed contracts there have some flexibility in terms of what you can do with those guys H how much does that help you guys moving forward yeah we talked about right even a bit last night is we need to add some more young core pieces and you know they’re all not going to hit but we need to start having those in the pipeline and so um you know the more picks the more assets more flexibility that’s how you sort of start to you know restock the cupboard I think as we said here um as we kind of go through this rebuild when you guys traded at the trade deadline for you gave up that first dra Pi you and msai before that sort of talked about how you weren’t going to make out of three rookies and how we saw with the gr dick experience that it takes a lot of Developmental work to get a rookie to a level where they can contribute it looks like maybe your opinion has evolved on that um why right now we can only talk about two draft picks so has okay H has your opinion changed on how many or how you can develop rookies um moving forward no I think it was just like I said sort of being opportunistic in the tradem mark and it will continue to be um this it’s hard to talk about it but you get it when it comes to Darko sort of what’s his uh involvement been like in in the draft process uh and sort of how do you expect him to develop with uh or help develop new guys yeah he’s been good obviously our second one with Darko so uh you know if you ask me when I go into a coach’s meeting room is probably a bit how he feels in ours um you know you’re talking about different things you’re talking about long-term roster building um coaches are obviously you know I think wired to think about you know the team in front of them and how they’re going to to manage that best um so it’s been great you know he has relationships from uh you know throughout the league so he’s helpful for us with Intel um obviously style of play as you know we’ve changed the style of Play Over the the you know compared to Prior years so understanding what he you know for example looking at what he wants for Bigs right so if you look at yak and Kelly and style of play so um it’s been a really good easy you know process with him do you feel like the addition of the second round exception the exception for second round players has increased the value of those picks or not I think so I think um there’s a little interesting Dynamic of the late first early second and that’s what we kind of saw with 31 is in some ways teams would almost per for the the early second picks they cost a little bit less with the tax you can sign them to exceptions you don’t need to use your mid-level um it’s probably pretty or Blake out is probably to CBA minua for this group but wow wow maybe you I don’t know it’s fine dou on my side we’ll get Blake next time to show up you mentioned Moo’s kind of unique Journey like the gross bird and everything I mean how far back like how did you guys first start tracking come aware like how long oh I don’t know I I talk to our Scouts obviously I started watching him this year um but I think in Missouri State or wherever he was and the two um you know a little bit of buet parallels double Jo kind of you know different places um we you know we met with him here and kind of got his story um but yeah I think when he kind of grew into his body you kind of see him he has he was a guard turning into a big and so you see kind of the ball handling and the the passing ability he can get out transition um that’s kind of you know can he continue on that path based on the picks um and I guess pending transactions in the future but is there a certain style of play that you’re looking to shape and hone in on for this summer offseason no I think with with with dark one I W Touch Too Much in his world but kind of the0 five offense get all you know make you know quick decisions I think one thing we realized when we you know made the deals this deadline is we probably need a few more Wing athletes Defender versatile and so that’s probably what you see with with with mobo and a little bit with uh jacobe too and so it’s maybe a nod back to you know some of the things we’ve uh traded Obby uh have you made any progress with Carri on his uh you know whatever might be happening with him I free agency yeah similar to Bruce I think we wanted to get through today and you know it’s not necessarily positional because I think you know maybe aon’s Point like rookies they have to have realistic expectations of of how they’re going to come in and contribute um but yeah know we’ll get to work on that obviously we thought about it we kind of know the amount of money we have flexibility all that but that’s the big task at hand those two guys is it a priority to sign him or do you have a number and go and get more I think there’s always yeah you want to be strategic about you know uh what’s tradeable what’s not tradeable um you know we have some big contracts coming up in the future so it’ll just have to be something that makes sense for everyone what do you think of mobo as the shooter down the road what do you thinking yeah I mean that’s the development piece I think you know we’ve had a few of those guys I alluded to earlier and so get him in here um have our coaches kind of sit with where he is mechanics mentally confidence um I think in talking to him he doesn’t uh you know have any sort of confidence issues but I think we just need to see what it looks like up close and see how we can either tweak it or leave it the same or rip it out and uh it’ll be a fun project thanks for watching the Toronto Raptor YouTube channel check out our latest videos and subscribe for more [Applause] Trent answers back Gary side step break got it

  1. Your audio is always terrible. Get a real production team in there. Mic the room. And learn how to use a table mic… or get someone who can read levels. It's really embarrassing, guys. Your media game, in this regard, is way sub par. Please! Sending love.

  2. Enough of these guys who can “do a little bit of everything.” Where has that got us in the last 5 years? Why not get guys really good at something and then add other bits to their game.

  3. Sadly I actually think we not keeping Davion.. I think they’re actually just gonna send him as flexibility to get somebody else.. that’s why he kept saying he could only talk about the picks and not really the trade… its unfortunate cuz I really think Davion fits our team perfectly but maybe he didn’t wanna be here.. that’s why he haven’t even acknowledged Raptors at all.. he didn’t post anything on his socials..and the Raptors page didn’t even mentioned or post about that trade

  5. You know, for a billion dollar corporation, y'all really skimping on the microphones and recording equipment. Like…I've seen street interviews by a nobody from nowhere, that has better audio than this. What kind of standards do we have, #TorontoRaptors ? Can we let the fans and season seat holders listen to an interview without having to jack our audio from 10/100 to 100/100 just to hear the Q…AND …. A?
