uh congratulations um just what’s the first thing that just comes to mind coming to Sacramento seeing how your game translates just overall thoughts to hear your name called out by Sacramento man uh it’s truly a blessing you know I just told everybody all glory to God you know this wouldn’t be possible without him just coming in Sacramento ready to compete with uh you know we got Darren Fox Malik monk uh sabonis probably one of the best Pastors in the league so uh I think uh you know Sacramento’s just getting a win now player you know just being able to be a mature guy um handled himself well on and off the court um you know do somebody who’s going to do all the dirty work you know get the rebounds uh dive on the floor for loose balls take charges guard the opposing guards best player uh other teams best player on the guard position so you know just somebody’s going to do it all whatever it takes to win and just coming from NBA pedigree with your father does what do what do you guys identify is what translates from your game best to the next level to the NBA level uh for sure my competitiveness uh one of the best competitors I think in the draft class uh somebody who like I said just wants to win uh think I two-way versatility uh being able to not only get stops on one end but score on the other end efficiently um and uh you know rebounding I think I took a big leap of that last or this previously at Providence so hey Devin congratulations first and foremost um Mike Brown you seem to fit a lot of what Mike Brown likes and is looking for and he preaches the defense and kind of that dog mentality and that mindset and it seems like you bring that to the table I’m curious whatever your how familiar are you with Mike Brown and and your thoughts on playing for him yeah uh Mike Mike Brown fantastic coach uh you know just I see how he treats his players how the players respond to him you know all the players love him so he’s a players coach and uh you know I just love playing for people who are coaches that care about their players first so just ready to get to work with him uh you know trust everything that he has going on for the organization and uh you know he’s the head of the snake so we follow his lead and uh you know see if we can bring a championship back to Sacramento and I know how excited you are to play with dearon and with Malik and be on their team but also how excited are you to to kind of get in the lab and and work against them and and try and prepare yourself and improve guarding some of the fastest guards in the league yeah I think uh going against them every day in practice is going to be big time in my development uh going forward just because you know I know how competitive I am uh pretty sure those two guys are really competitive as well so just looking forward to those challenges those back and forth practices uh you know one day I might get the better of them next day they might get the better of me so you know just looking forward to building on from that Deon yes uh welcome to the association and welcome to uh Sacramento uh did you have any idea that the uh Kings would uh choose you at that 13 pick uh deep down in my gut that’s that’s the team that I felt was going to pick me um you know I felt like I had a very well workout with them uh the uh meetings and everything with the decision makers uh everything was just perfect in my eyes and I think we all clicked you know from the meetings and uh just them see me play in person my competitiveness and uh just the person I am I think everything was just meant to be so here we are I also know you know the workout uh process you know can be a it can be a tough process uh how many teams did you uh work out for uh I did eight I did eight teams yeah hey Devin congrats man um you’re somebody that seems to be pretty positionally versatile I’m curious how much you agree with that and what you think allows you to do that yeah uh I’m like I said I’m a two-way player uh have a lot of Versatility in my game uh somebody who could switch um one through four just understands the concept of defense and what the you know what our game plan is The Scouting Report understand what players their strengths are and their weaknesses you know trying to force them into their weaknesses more than their strengths so uh like I said you’re just getting a very high IQ player somebody who wants to come in and win from day one hey Devon congratulations um I’m just curious what um stood out to you in your conversations when you were here with h with Mike Brown and and with uh the guys in the front office what did you take away from from those meetings uh honestly just how authentic it was you know uh some of the other meetings were a little tense but uh I think this one everybody was just authentic and uh straight up and it was just great from you know the moment I walked in the door you know handshakes uh everything just felt right from the moment I walked in so uh Deon what was today like for you is this a surprise to to be here in this position in Sacramento um just overall maybe thoughts of just the day how it went um no it’s not a surprise I mean I trust God and everything he has planned for me um definitely put in a lot of work countless hours every night every morning uh you know even my dad uh coach Kim and Providence uh just it’s been a long ride so you know like everybody saying you know it’s just beginning uh start over a new chapter in your life and now you’re the new guy on the team you got to you know make a mark for yourself and you got to come in and be ready to work and be ready to learn from day one I imagine a lot of things are coming at you fast um just as you go through the rounds there in New York what’s the the thing that just stands out to you most I mean what what’s kind of the thing that maybe you weren’t anticipating um the traffic I think all the bikers out here uh are uh in their own world when they when they ride on the street they don’t really see the cars but uh I’m H I’m excited to get down there to uh California and Sacramento well transitioning from that to Sacramento specifically I’m curious what what reputation about the Kings Kings games Kings fans have you heard and you’re most excited about experiencing in in person here oh man I’m excited for the at atmosphere in the games uh it’s crazy I’ve seen videos obviously live games uh ready to light the beam you know uh everything going on with that so I’m just ready man I’m ready to hop on the Jet and get over there and another thing that stands out about your game is your your rebounding for your size and in your position what is it about rebounding that you enjoy so much and what makes you such a versatile rebounder yeah um I read the Flight of the ball you know to answer your versatile rebounding question uh you know i’ like to see where the is going before it hits the rim so I have a chance to grab it myself and uh you know when I grab it myself I’m I consider myself to be a faster person on the court so you know I’ll push it up quick see if we have numbers and if not you know we can pull it back out but also if uh somebody’s ahead of me you know we might got Malik monk or de fox or even some bonus down the court I’m going throw it up the court just to first person in front of me that I see you know just to try to get the advantage before the defense gets set so that’s why I like rebounding a lot um and it was very very beneficial not only to me but with my team uh this past year Devin you uh attended South Carolina uh your freshman year where you averaged nine points uh I think three rebounds and then you decided to go to the Big East to uh join Providence and then your stats went through the roof what went into the decision to enter the portal and how did that help you that’s my only question yeah uh South Carolina uh it was a great year uh you know just coming in as a freshman um my coach actually got fired so that was my decision of why decided to leave um second year at Providence I was playing for Ed kie uh you know he brought me in with a great class so we had a good year and then he ended up leaving and then coach Kim came in and uh that’s why my numbers really went through the roof for you know not only just scoring and rebounding but like my efficiency and everything and uh that’s uh yeah that’s how I went I’m sure it was a crazy day um how much have you processed that you’re in the NBA now um yeah I don’t I don’t even know if I’m talking to you guys right now I’m in a dream I don’t know but uh it’s definitely a it’s just feels surreal man I’m just very blessed to be here and I’m excited to get get to work got one more question Devin tell us about the the fashion Choice today with uh the suit the shades uh what what happened to your shirt uh uh first let me get your opinion what do you rated one through 10 uh I’m you know I’m going to give you a 10 buddy I think you I think you look good I’m just curious what what your thought process was I really appreciate that I honestly appreciate that some people give me 9.5 and I was like okay you know if you don’t want to give me 10 that’s cool I take 9.5 but no uh I’m from Florida so you know Florida boy I just want to throw a little Florida in there I don’t usually wear shirts like under my sweatshirts and stuff like that you know um and then the colors I just I like pastel colors so we went pastel my stylist and then we put crystals on the suit and uh yeah so it’s just it’s a little flashy but I’m I was born in Florida specifically Miami West Palm so uh yeah it’s just who I am uh yeah H blow watch and then the sunglasses are cardier like that my Jeweler made awesome that’s all we have thanks Ste appreciate
