Stephen A. Smith encourages Paul George to explore options beyond Clippers | 2024 NBA Draft

I know when the Clippers were on the clock you we had some points you did not get to well listen bottom line was I want I want Paul George to R out I mean the fact that the matter is Kawhi Leonard is never healthy and and you can’t depend on his health he misses 60% of the playoff games since he’s been a Clipper 46% of the regular season games I don’t trust them to be healthy enough and if you’re Paul George where you going to go you got bounced out in the first round you’re looking for your money they don’t want to give you a fourth year that basically shows that their belief in you has dissipated some degree they still respect you cuz you’re still a damn good player but there are question marks you got an opportunity to get in Philadelphia to play with Joel and beid to Tyrese Maxi something along those lines that’s an opportunity you should explore because guess what Paul George can afford to opt out and know he’s going to get more than $48 million he going to get a raise so if I’m him it’s what I do well you know unrestricted free agency always scared me more than anything because when you have a player like this you can’t control it the team doesn’t but by the way that’s okay most of the time the team is in control most of the time you do control your roster but players of this magnitude whether it’s Paul George or any player they hit unrestricted free agency often times they can dictate terms okay and that’s not bad or good but that’s all he’s doing he’s he’s got the control um he’s earned it I I don’t know if he’s been a free agent before I don’t even know if Paul George has ever been in unrestricted free agent no he has it listen you’re the Clippers whether it’s the Lakers the Clippers teams in those markets they Bank on their ability to be able to go out and get another star player if they have cap space and I think you’re seeing the Clippers try to hold the line and not ultimately pay a player who would be 37 years old have to pay him in the mid-50s by the way the the Clippers are not villains here they’ve got the NBA’s older Squad averaging 30.4 years of age okay you need a youth movement I like their pick you got to get some young dudes up in there no doubt about it but the other side to it is this the two cornerstones of your franchise one of them is perpetually injured and the other that’s contemplating free agency he’s been injured enough in his own career you do need to start moving in a different direction as an organization and if you’re the player you should be thinking about it too [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

During Round 2 coverage of the 2024 NBA Draft, Stephen A. Smith, Bob Myers and Adrian Wojnarowski discuss Paul George’s potential unrestricted free agency and if he’ll return to the LA Clippers.

  1. Stephen A: PG should leave Kawhi because he’s injured all the time.
Stephen A: PG should join Embiid in Philly. 😂

  2. The issue with PG is he always injured and miss the important games his team needs him, any team willing to pay him a massive contract good luck he not the same PG we once saw play at a high level when he once played for the Thunder and Pacers.

  3. I think PG can become a Vince Carter-esq mentor to a young team like OKC. He’s got more youth and gas left in his knees than Carter had at 34 but he can embrace that role and still be an awesome 3rd option that could take over on any given night. The Spurs, The Rockets and any other teams that might wanna try being competitive could benefit from his presence because he’s unselfish and will play the right way.

  4. I think Paul George makes the Clippers, 76ers, and Warriors better. But he doesn't make any of them THAT much better than the other. Let's be honest he just wants max money.

  5. I still remember the days Kawhi orchestrated the move to Clippers & was being mentioned as being a bigger deal than Lebron to LA & that the Clippers were going to win a ring under Lebrons time as a Laker. All the hype & has only been met with failures but let’s just brush that under the rug right now

  6. Not to break up the Band, if Paul George goes to another team then John and Ringo should go there too.

  7. Paul george would thrive on the grizzlies or any young fast teams. Can either run it or just sit back and be a sharp shooter

  8. I’m so disappointed in ESPN and Stephen A Smith, because there has not been one mention of the JJ Redick controversy, but yet they are quick to respond and report about people of color.

  9. STEPHEN A SMITH'S MIND, MOUTH AND SPIRIT IS ENSLAVED AND IN ⛓ CHAINS .STEPHEN A SMITH HAS NOT SPOKEN ABOUT THE BLACK LADY HALLEEMAH NASH,A FORMER CHICAGO BULLS EMPLOYEE WHO PUBLICALLY ACCUSED LOS ANGELAS LAKERS COACH JJ REDDICK OF CALLING HER A "N-GG-R "TO HER FACE.
STEPHEN A SMITH IS A DISGRACE TO THE PRINCIPLE OF " ETHICS AND INTEGRITY " IN JOURNALISM. STEPHEN A SMITH IS 12 MILLION DOLLAR MEDIA SLAVE

  10. I’m so disappointed in ESPN and Stephen A Smith, because there has not been one mention of the JJ Redick controversy, but yet they are quick to respond and report about people of color.

  11. PG in MAVS has a good chance of winning a championship along with Kyrie and Luka so please paul sign in Mavs you really fit to the team 💪

  12. I really don’t get the hype with PG. You basically just get an overpaid version of Khris Middleton.
