[NBA University] Naji Marshall—the knife—makes a living giving hell to ball-handlers. He has a 7’1 wingspan and uses it to pickpocket everybody. Strong anticipation & understanding of space. Passable shooter with really nice connective playmaking and closeout attacking in his bag.

This guy is a good player. He’ll fit right in. No doubts about it. I like Naji and this is a GOOD pick up

But is DJJ really gone? I’m confused/disappointed in our ability to retain guys. But man, what’s going on?

Is Klay a lock now? or something else? The contract being $9m/year makes me think that DJJ is gonna get more than MLE?

    Confused a bit.

Basically less athletic, better shooting DJJ. This is a great move as much as I would have loved Derrick to return.

Sounds like a good signing, I hope this doesn’t take us out of the Klay sweepstakes.

Edit: It looks like he’s here because we’re out of the DJJ sweepstakes. I hope I’m wrong.

He is shooting NEAR 80% on FT, our weakest area. This is an absolute steal!

Naji is 2 inches taller than DJJ and with Luka Magic, this guy will feast here.

is nico just looking at reddit with his team or what?

We’ve always given this team shit for waiting around on players who end up signing elsewhere. If DJJ was intent on getting as much as he could as a FA, it was probably going to take days for the dust to settle with the bigger names and for him to get a real offer. The FO pulled the trigger on Naji instead of missing out on both.

I’m sad to be losing DJJ, but I’m happy we aren’t just watching things happen for other teams. Keep cooking Nico

My understanding is that the MLE is 12.9mil. We signed Naji for 9. This also might be ascending so we could have upwards of 5mil left on the MLE.

Trade Green and Kleber for Thompson then sign a stretch/backup 4/small ball 5 for the remainder of the MLE.

Edit: NVM – there’s literally no options for a backup stretch 4/small ball 5 on the open market unless Jalen Smith or Precious Achiuwa accept around 5mil per year, and even so they don’t really have the full stretch ability.

Will miss DJJ’s rim running, but good pivot from Nico. Good that we are no longer a front office that waits around too miss out on other options. What we miss out with DJJ’s rim running, we make up with better shooter and ball handler.

I don’t understand why some people are losing their minds. Like I understand we all wanted DJJ to stay for a reasonable price. But let’s remember he was a minimum signing last off season. Let’s trust that Nico knows what he is doing with Marshall and his fit here. Marshall could flourish here for all we know and have career year numbers. He seems like a competent defender and shooter. As we know Nico isn’t afraid to admit when he is wrong and will try to move on from his mistakes like Grant Williams etc.

I know we all love DJJ but he’s a guy who definitely benefited from playing alongside Luka and Kyrie. Good on Nico for recognizing that and getting a very similar replacement who is younger and cheaper

  11. AsianEleven101

He stole from SGA that’s an instant confirmation

DJJ was just using the Mavs as leverage to get a bigger contract. Good for him for betting on himself, all the best wishes.

Willing defender with size and shooting. That’s what it takes to beat the best in the West.

  14. I remember the Mavs, playing Pelicans in past seasons. This guy gives a lot of problems offensively for other teams. Along with Grimes. We got guys now that have good defense, with respectable 3 point shooting and can attack close-outs.

Luka and KY can make anybody look good. Imagine how good they can make a guy who is actually pretty good look.

I trust Nico with my life, not even gonna think about any signings and just trust.
