Ian Begley gives latest on Isaiah Hartenstein and if he will re-sign with Knicks | The Putback | SNY

Sean uh Ian coming to you quickly uh reports right now are that the Oklahoma City Thunder are meeting with Isaiah hartenstein in Oregon for those just joining us please refresh us on the hartenstein situation including this news yeah so uh the Knicks can offer Isaiah hartenstein maximum of $16 million in the first year maximum of four years $72 million overall they’re limited to that because they have Haren Stein’s early bird rights he’s been on the team for two years other teams with cap space like the Thunder like the magic like the Pistons can come in way over the top on that offer and can really uh dwarf that offer because they don’t have any limitations on what they can offer hartenstein and you know we’ve been talking about it we reported earlier that the expectation is that multiple teams will have offers for hardenstein multiple cap space teams will have offers for hardenstein and I think at least one of them will be longer term so you know he’s going to have a to think about but that Dynamic is the reason why it’s been unlikely unlikely that hartenstein comes back to New York you know he could take a big haircut and come back to the Knicks but he’d be leaving a lot of money on the table and I think even people in that Nick locker room they would love to have him back they’d say Isaiah come on back if you want to but don’t leave money on the table because they understand that this is you want to say a once in a-lifetime opportunity for a player who is hitting free agency at the exact right time coming off a great season not a big Center Market and so I don’t think anyone would fault him for taking advantage of that position

On The Putback with Ian Begley, SNY’s NBA Insider is joined by SNY host Chelsea Sherrod, The Knicks Wall’s Shaun Geddes, and ESPN radio’s Dan Graca to discuss the latest on Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein and if he will re-sign with the Knicks despite potentially getting higher offers from other teams.

  1. I really hope we can keep him. He was such a major piece this season especially after Mitch was injured but not only would he lose money if he resigns but Oklahoma is close to his girlfriends home state Texas so she probably has a lot of family there and since they’ve just had a baby family wouldn’t be too far in Oklahoma. Manifesting ihart comes back tho 🙏
