They Should’ve Never Let The New Orleans Pelicans Get Dejounte Murray…

the New Orleans Pelicans have made a big splash they have traded for Deon Murray as they’re sending over Larry n junor Dyson Daniels a 2025 first round pick via the Lakers and a 2027 first round pick the less favorable one of bucks Pelicans to the Atlanta Hawks this is per Murray will now be joining the Pelicans to play alongside Zion Williamson and Company what a trade this is for the Pelicans I couldn’t believe it when I saw the news go down to get Murray and to look at what they were able to give up this is just an absolutely huge win for the Pelicans what a trade and they just pulled off a robbery in my opinion to be able to add Murray to this collection of players that they have the Pelicans they are going to be terrifying going into next season as Murray the experiment with him and Atlanta never worked out and and he hopes he’s off to greener pastures with his Pelicans team as Murray you know he put up 22.5 points 5.3 rebounds 6.4 assists 1.4 steals in 35 minutes a game with Atlanta and you look at the Pelicans now they have immediately bolstered their back or with Murray in the mix it will allow McCullum to move back to his more natural position of a shooting guard so Murray now will be able to have the ball in his hands more while McCullum can play the role that made him so success successful when he was alongside Damen Lillard in Portland this is a really nice another scoring threat next to you know McCullum and Zion Williamson and potentially Brandon Ingram because there’s been a lot of talk about his future with this team Ingram has been rumored as a summer trade candidate for the longest time but according to W New Orleans is hoping to find common ground on a contract extension with Ingram and I think them making this trade suggests that the Pelicans they’re all in and I do think they are going to keep Ingram around now and you just look at Murray you know his three-point volume his efficiency he’s going to help a New Orleans Pelicans team that ranked 24th in three-point attempts he can also score off the dribble and during his season with the Spurs that made him an All-Star he showed off his facilitating ability his court vision and being able to you know be a playmaker on a high level he averaged over nine assists a game during that season so w mentioned this that the Pelicans view Murray as a player who can generate offense saying New Orleans was 0 and 24 when trailing entering the fourth and 2 and 14 in close games and they see Murray as a player who can generate offense late in games Pelicans remain committed to core that include Zion Williamson and CJ McCullum Pelicans are trying to find common ground with Brandon Ingram contract what I just said a moment ago and then on the defensive side of the ball he’s going to be a huge bonus to this Pelicans team you look at Murray you know he’s 6′ five he’s got insane 6’1 wingspan he’s going to make life difficult for opposing guards on the perimeter remember he earned all defensive honors during the 2017 2018 season and now he joins a roster that has all defensive forward herb Jones the Pelicans are coming off the season in which they had the sixth best defense in the league and now they’re adding Murray to the equation which is going to elevate that defense even more and get this dejonte Murray leads the NBA in steals with 361 over the last three seasons second on the list is Herb Jones with 338 so you look at just the skill set that Murray brings to the Pelicans offensively defensively and that defense is perhaps where the Pelicans get the greatest value in Murray he’s just going to be such a nice fit in New Orleans and you look at now what the Pelicans have you know collection of players of Murray McCullum Ingram Williamson herb Jones try Murphy III Jose Alvarado this is a great team and the Pelicans they still have some stuff to figure out this off season as Jonas valentones is an unrestricted free agent and with Nance now gone there is a significant hole in the paint for the Pelicans and they partially address their big men need by drafting neas Missy with the 21st overall pick of the 2024 NBA draft I thought that was a nice pick for the Pelicans and now looking at it now makes a whole ton of sense why they drafted Evas Missy so they’re going to have to figure out what they’re going to do with that Center position now before going to bring more balance to this roster he’s going to have the keys to wly Green’s offense now and like I said it’s going to allow for McCullum to slide to more natural shooting guard position and then you know Alvarado is going to be Murray’s backup while Jordan Hawkins will be the backup for McCullum and then you look at just the small forward position this is where the Log Jam will be you’re going to have Brandon Ingram but then herb Jones try Murphy the third they can all make you know a case to start and then Zion Williamson he’s going to be you know there obviously and benefiting from playing alongside de Jon Murray he’s going to be feeding Williamson and just giving him easy looks and then as I mentioned the Pelicans they drafted Evis Missy from baor and they also traded for Antonio Reeves who was the Orlando Magics pick at number 47 and it remains to be seen if Willie Green will end up rolling with Missy as the starting center I just don’t think Willie Green’s going to throw Missy into that role just yet so that leads me to saying that I think the Pelicans are likely going to make another move and I think that move is going to come at Center because they refuse to extend valent Tunis he’s an unrestricted free agent they could obviously bring him back but multiple reports have suggested that the Pelicans are going to move on from him and they’re going to elect to get more of a floor spacing big which right now looking at this projected Pelican starting five a floor spacing big would make a ton of sense so it’s going to be something worth monitoring and seeing what the Pelicans do but I I don’t see Missy being the starter to Anchor the middle at least for now because like I said the Western Conference it’s stacked and and I really think you know he’s him being a rookie coming in it’s a lot to ask from him and you know it could be a struggle for him to just be thrown in that position so yeah I think the publicans are not done and I think they will end up addressing that Center position one way or another you know maybe the Pelicans go you know with a starting lineup of dejonte Murray McCullum herb Jones Brandon Ingram and then Zion Williamson and we kind of saw some of that you know small ball with Zion at the five a little bit so maybe the Pelicans end up rolling with that so it’s going to be interesting to see how things kind of play out here Willie Green you know he’s going to have a lot of different things to work out but I mean it’s a good problem to have if you’re a Pelicans fan got to be excited this is nice team on paper Murray makes a lot of sense the Western Conference I know it’s stacked I know it’s tough there’s so many teams that are considered Championship contenders but this Pelicans team I think if all goes right for them they stay healthy if they you know tweak this thing a bit make another move this is a team that can be in business and they can seriously compete and they can seriously you know Make some noise and obviously when talking about this team you always talk about health but if healthy you look at the amount of talent the Pelicans have assuming they can you know get on the same page with Brandon
