taking you through your morning headlines it’s Denver Sports Daily with Rachel vill before we get into the well-known name we have to talk about Colorado Avalanche Superstar Nathan McKinnon being a big winner last night at the NHL awards on Thursday in Las Vegas taking home his first heart trophy uh yes this is a major deal so awarded to the NHL’s MVP essentially McKinnon is chosen by media members by writers by all sorts of people plus he was also selected by players to be the NHL’s best so he’s been close to winning the heart before but has never won it at least until now so McKinnon beat out Tampa Bay’s Nikita COV and Edmonton’s Conor MCD for the honor proving his season was among the greatest and extremely qualified candidates that’s for sure so McKinnon was monster for the Avalanche this season registering 140 points by four the most in his career and his previous high was 111 last year McKinnon also scored 50 goals for the first time this season yeah you heard me say that right finishing with 51 total to go along with 89 assists both were easily the most he’s ever tallied he had two four goal games a natural hattick and the second longest home point streak in the NHL do we all remember every single game at ball Arena we were like is he going to extend it is he going to extend it is he going to extend it well he extended it for 35 straight games at ballarina getting on the score sheet tallied only behind the Wayne Gretzky 40th game record from 1988 to 1989 so pretty awesome to see Nathan McKinnon be able to take away the heart Trophy and then like I said he also took home the Ted Lindsay Award on Thursday which is given annually to the most outstanding player in the league as voted by fellow members of the NHL players Association so by the players he to kerov and Toronto’s Austin Matthews to snag that trophy for the first time as well and then just also a little special notice on that Kel marcar got third in the Norris Trophy voting he had a great season with 90 points and 21 goals and 69 assist and marar won the Norris two years ago in case you forgot but here’s the thing here in the mile high city we’re so lucky I talk about this all the time we’re so lucky to watch Nathan McKinnon and Nicole leic uh yeah here it is even cooler you guys so obviously Superstar Nathan McKinnon and Denver Nuggets sensation Nicole yage both work at ball Arena and both are the best players in the world at their respective Sports so McKinnon was obviously awarded the hard trophy on Thursday night as the NHL’s MVP it was his first time capturing the honor like I mentioned but meanwhile yic won his third NBA MVP last month for just the second time in history of the NHL and NBA the MVPs come from the same city the only other time it was done was in 1989 when Wayne Gretzky and Magic Johnson were both MVPs while representing Los Angeles that of course was grety with the Kings and Johnson with the Lakers so how cool is it that we’re here in the Mal high city we have two MVPs it’s just outstanding and we’re so lucky I never take it for granted and I hope none of you do either so cool to be able to say that we have two MVPs in one city now that name I was talking about the Denver Nuggets are showing interest in Klay Thompson is a potential replacement for contavious cbell po oh what okay did not expect this one to pop up on my timeline this morning the Philadelphia 76ers are all Al expected to show interest in Thompson no surprise the 76ers have also been linked to kcp but a league Source said that Philadelphia has interest in Thompson if the Nuggets lose free agent to be cavius kba Pope who has decided to decline his player option and enter the market a league Source said Denver has pegged Thompson as a possible replacement did not see that coming at all um obviously kyp’s declining his option they could tend to offer him a little bit more money uh than nuggets could and he could possibly want to stay out here and resign it’s most likely that he is going to move on which just breaks my heart a little bit but Klay Thompson is Klay Thompson out of his prime like how do we all feel about this because I feel like four years ago I would have been thrilled with Klay Thompson but obviously with injuries and other things it’s just felt like he’s kind of gone a little bit downhill don’t hate me for saying that so interesting let me know in the comments how you would feel about Klay Thompson being a NE like the next Denver Nugget I don’t know how I feel about it if I’m being completely honest with you uh however I do I know how I feel about this one uh Jamal Murray is working towards a 4-year $29 million maximum contract extension this offseason the Nuggets will present the deal to Murray obviously 2023 NBA champion and one of the best clutch players in the league and both sides are expecting an agreement which is exciting Murray’s fiveyear $18 million rookie contract extension is up at the end of the 2024 25 season so while the guard could try to play it out in hopes of getting a super super max deal he would have to make the All-Star game uh then it could possibly be saying that we could see that super max but like I said if Murray had been voted an all all NBA player he would have been due for a much higher payday but injuries came into play and it didn’t end up happening um like I said his numbers they were they were good but they weren’t great he did have a lot of career highs on this year where he was averaging 21.2 points per game 6.5 assists per game he was shooting 48 48.1% from the field field but those leg injuries definitely kept him only at 59 games which also hurt it but he was coming off of an ACL injury last season as well that cost him to playoffs runs so there was a lot going on for Jamal Murray for his entire rookie contract but here he is hoping and willing to get paid now and who’s not going to be like oh I’ll take $29 million as a contract decision I was sitting there thinking when I saw this come across my screen yesterday I’m like how crazy is it that they literally like get a phone call from their agent and like they want to pay you $29 million like what do you do after you get that sort of phone call do you go out to dinner is it just another day in the books for these type of guys it’s always one of the Cur like curiosity things I’m like I would just pay so much money to be a fly on thewall and see what that looks like after you get so much money for just one phone call I don’t know it’s crazy uh like I did mention though kavus calwell Pope is declining his 15.4 million player option for the 2024 2025 season to become a free agent just breaks my heart shps reported that kcp is expected to receive interest for multiple teams I mentioned the 76ers being one Jake Shapiro thinks that the Orlando ma magic could be another one um but he has declined $15 million option again he could totally still get paid by the Nuggets a little bit more they do have his bird rights and can match any deal on the market but it’s up to teen ownership to commit to a higher wage bill so essentially Jake Spar and I talked about this on Coffey break I believe it was yesterday or Wednesday but team Executives have to willingly box themselves into the ramifications for the higher tax that brings with kcp wanting to stay in the M high city a little bit longer so last year we all remember the Bruce Brown situation where they literally could not pay him like it was not an option to match any sort of deal but that is not what is happening with kcp they can match any deal they’re going to end up paying the luxury tax if that does happen which they ownership has said that they are willing to pay any of those taxes um kba pop played 76 games in 2023 and 2024 he averaged 10.1 points 2.4 assists 2.4 rebounds 1.3 steals and6 blocks on 41% shooting from the deep but here’s the thing this is where kcp really thrives his defensive rating is 111 when kcp was on the floor which was 36 best among players who played at least 65 games and 20 minutes a night the kcp is so good defensively and that’s going to be the scary thing for the Nuggets if they end up letting him go which could honestly like I said it’s just going to break my heart but we don’t know again he’s de declining the option he had until tomorrow Saturday to decide if he was going to do that but there still could be talks he could end up coming back or he could go get paid a lot of money and see where they end up so uh you should definitely check out the coffee break episode that we did though because Jake really kind of dope into everything around the kcp situation right like there could be a scenario where kcp doesn’t want to return back to the mile high city like that’s truthfully a possibility I don’t personally believe that but we don’t know what he’s thinking in the back of his head so just another one of those things everybody pay attention to there’s going to be more news I even it was funny I think it was yesterday that Jake and I were joking and I was like so we’re done with like all the big news right like nothing else should happen the draft’s over they traded away their second round pick like we’re not going to see anything and then yesterday after that episode was done it just exploded with news and the next thing we have on the docket is the Nuggets decide to uh ship off Reggie Jackson and their plans for the 2024 2025 season after all just three days after Jackson picked up his five .25 million player option to stay with the Nuggets GM Calvin Booth ended up saying hey appreciate you we’re shipping you out of town to Charlotte and to get the deal done here’s the thing Booth had to throw in three future second round draft picks three of them I was like oh that hurts just a little bit I’m not going to lie so in 2024 after the departure of Bruce Brown Jackson became the primary backup point guard being behind Jamal Murray then Jackson played all 82 regular season games which is an insane feat if not L including 23 starts when Murray was hurt he averaged 10.2 points per game and 3.8 assists Reggie Jackson was getting moved which obviously opens up who’s going to fill in the rotation now but it looks like Jaylen picket could be a great option to potentially be in the rotation which I know a lot of people would be excited to see him um we’ll also of course see if Denver decides to add another point guard in free agency but here’s another crazy stat for you the nuggets have one tradable draft pick left a 20 2031 first round pick that is insane to think how far away we are from 2031 and it’s a first- round draft pick that is the only tradable draft pick that they have left so uh Championship now the window is here it is closed you better be able to win some now because you’re not building a whole lot on the future for years to come now history was made yesterday when it came to the Lakers and LeBron James because of course the Lakers they ended up going in drafting bronny James and they will become the first father and son Duo to play for an NBA team at the same time after the Lakers like I said drafted little bronie bronny was the team’s number 55 overall pick deep in the second round with only three picks remaining in this year’s draft however exactly how long will the magic last is anybody’s guess because LeBron who has been with the Lakers since 2018 will be eligible for free agency next week meaning he could choose to leave the team in search of a higher paying gate now let’s be real it’s not like LeBron James probably needs a whole lot of money but we do know uh that they come out and say quote unquote we know and have to respect of course that LeBron had the decision to opt out this comes from the Lakers general manager he says but if it worked out that he was on our team next season NBA history could be made and NBA history should be made in a Lakers uniform so Brony James and LeBron James will we ever see them on the court in an actual NBA game together that is a question only they probably know the answer to another fun one for you on this Friday KJ Simpson completes the trio of History making Colorado Buffalo drafted into the NBA this week being number 42 selected by the Charlotte Hornets he can meet up with Reggie Jackson Cody Williams obviously win in the first round on Wednesday followed by Tristan D Silva now it is Simpsons turn who let’s be honest had the best college career of the three Simpsons finished his junior year by earning a first team all packed 12 not and playing CU for the in the dance for the first time since 2021 the fo two guard led the team in points assists and steals per game while racking up the third most rebounds Simpson were the only Power conference player in the nation this winter to average at least 19 points five rebounds and four assists plus he hit one of the biggest shots in college basketball this spring for a buzzer beater for the tournament win which was so dang fun to watch I’m already missing March Madness it’s gonna be here probably before we know it I know I’m going to be saying that and you’re like it’s Rachel it’s the end of June like we have so long until March feel like things just quickly spring up on us just like the Broncos will also be springing up on us very very soon roll that transition let’s go into the NFL all right so like I said training camp begins on July 26 but it does not take long for the fans to claim their available tickets for some of the practices by 4:30 p.m. yesterday three days had already seen their allotment of tickets spoken for that was Saturday July 27th Saturday August 3rd and Friday August 16th so the 16th is the day the Packers are going to be in town and July 27th is back together weekend so they always tend to do something fun and they have players who come out and sign autographs and all sorts of stuff so all of those are gone but tickets for the other 13 sessions remain available at ticketmaster.com so make sure you do that that also includes July 26 which will be the open Camp day which is again when everything will begin it’s crazy it’s going to be here before we know it I cannot believe it last thing for you on this Friday a jury has ordered the NFL to pay over $4.1 billion doar in Damages for overcharging for its Sunday ticket package jurors determined the leag violated anti trust laws by colluding with Direct TV and its Network Partners to drive up the price of the package I’m sorry to anybody that has paid all this money on this but the three-week trial included testimony from the commissioner Roger gell and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones a league spokesperson said they were disappointed with the verdict and plan to appeal so $4.1 billion is sure a lot and it makes me wonder how much they made by jacking up those prices that’s for sure okay let’s get into some of your guys’ comments um I love seeing them so thank you so much for just hanging with me on this Friday um let’s see convince shamal to accept $200 million instead of 209 mil and give the other 9 mil to Casey P so he can stay um I see what you’re trying to do there but I think kyp is going to be going after more than just an additional additional $9 million um I think he’s really looking to probably get some serious cash if he’s going to do it this is probably his last contract so he’s thinking all right I really need to go out there and make enough money for my family to hopefully live off of that for the rest of forever um and for future Generations as well so I don’t think we’re going to see any sort of stuff right there Jamal is probably going to take that 209 actually they pretty much have already stud is going to take that 209 and that will be that playay was a name I never thought of him as a nugget please no I woke up and I saw this and I was like wait a second playay Thompson in a Denver Nuggets uniform like that just doesn’t feel right granted it doesn’t feel right to see clay in any uniform besides a Golden State Warriors one like that Trio right clay Steph Draymond seeing them in any sort of other Jersey just doesn’t feel right at all so it’s crazy that here we are talking about Klay Thompson possibly coming to be a Denver Nugget or a Philadelphia 7 or one way or another it’s a very very strange uh mix let’s see to be completely honest Casey P will be leaving the Nuggets yes kcp is most likely leaving the Nuggets unless like I said the Nuggets match some offer and he’s like oh well you match that offer I can win a ring here too I’m definitely gonna say but probably it just sucks um thank you Jake Professor nugget oh my gosh Jake killed all of our coverage for everything going on with the Dumber nuggets this around LeBron James so it would be hysterical if he left I’m pretty sure he’s going to resign with the Lakers and that’s what it’s going to be but I kind of agree with this statement let me know in the comments if you do too the Lakers have become the laughing stock of the NBA I think that’s the truth I’m not going to lie uh yes let’s see let’s see um LOL I can’t dump my season tickets quick enough team is going to be super bad are you talking about the Broncos are you talking about the Nuggets which which team are we talking about here when it comes to season tickets CA um I wouldn’t dump either one of them if I’m going to be completely honest with you yes the Broncos are struggling right now we can talk about that trust me but don’t dump your season tickets because there’s a line of like 50,000 people so you will never get those season tickets get back so don’t dump those keep those underneath your name if you have them you’re one of the lucky ones um let’s see oh wait I want this one I’d like us to get clay as a sixthman like Ray Allen roll with the heat to have CB start clay would be the Benchmark plug we need I feel like if Klay Thompson is coming to the Denver Nuggets and he’s in your starting five and like that’s what that’s going to be um I’m excited if Christian Brown does get you know the pull up to have to go out there he impressed me so much during first of all he was so emotional after the Nuggets loss like he was just so emotional it was so hard for him and he was like I haven’t had a lot of losing Seasons like think about it in college he was great in high school he was obviously fantastic and then with the Nuggets he’s been super fortunate to win so he was really emotional but he was so maturely emotional that I do think that he can be ready for this next jump mentally but can he you know hit those threes when is expected of him he cannot have droughts like we’ve seen in years past with Christian Brown so it’ll be really really interesting um
