What is the value of the Boston Celtics?
the Bruins to me felt was going to be the lead up until about half an hour ago breaking news at this hour Wick gck is selling the Boston Celtics your thoughts look I I I didn’t see it coming but I when you look back on it now the first thing you say was well this explains a lot I mean they loaded up they went out and won a championship they got all these assets now that they’re nailing down and so you know to me if you’re a fan this is a good news bad news proposition cuz I know a lot of people fans like the idea of local owner and they certainly like the idea of an owner who has uh you know said he was going to put his money where his mouth is and for the most part I would say he has the Celtics now are expensive they are an expensive commodity and they’re worth it because they are in premium Prime shape I would think that whoever buys them is going to need resources so in other words I don’t think you can come to the table if you’re someone looking to get some sort of bargain franchise get in the week they they are now the uh the absolute uh you know they absolute height of their value in terms of all time and also they just won a championship they got two of the best young players in the league everyone’s going to be under contract if you want in you got to be willing to take on that expense I think and so I I I presume that the next owner is going to be somebody with some very Deep Pockets I think you never know how this thing is going to go but they’re not cheap right now you know honestly like when the Red Sox sold to use an easy example they were unfulfilled potential the Red Sox hadn’t won in a long time they you know they had added assets beforehand to make the the team more appealing but there were still plenty of room for growth with the Celtics I think you’re buying them knowing that you’re going to kill it for the first 5 10 years this is now the trend in the league this is how many teams in just the last year or so you had your bucks right you have the Dallas Mavericks the Charlotte Hornets the Phoenix Suns getting pretty expensive to run these operations what with the apron and now the second apron and once you start winning the cost just keeps going up and so I I’m I I almost drove off the road I mean considering the time of it you that they just won the championship and to hear this like a week week and a half later it’s like holy crap but I’m all really not that surprised because it’s kind of just buy low sell high they could probably sell the thing for $5 billion at this point so with as expensive as it’s getting for players and the taxes and everything else I mean this seems to be the trend of the league so you guys don’t buy that it’s for estate purposes no what do you mean by that I don’t know I I think it was in their release I’m trying to find it right now but of course in real time I can’t find it exactly but I’ve heard Beetle read the statement you know they sent out an official do you have it in front of you no let me pull it up hold on it’s in the email chain okay so as part of their official release they you know gave you that that detail about estate purposes oh please which you know I I find a little dubious like why would they why would they have announced they don’t owe you an explanation right out of the shoot like that after considerable thought and internal discussion has decided to sell the team for state and Family Planning considerations I don’t know you know so just a so a quick background it isn’t really Wick that owns the team I mean it is but it it’s Irv it’s his father Irv grossbeck okay is the financial weight behind the whole thing and I’m not telling you like Wick is just like he’s Mark Davis or something but it started with Irv grck look at Irv grc’s bio Irv grc’s wiki page part owner of the Boston Celtics IR grck was the cable operator out in Worcester and okay like that’s where the money come from I don’t know who’s listed as what exactly for all I know it might technically be ir grck and not Wick I don’t know exactly but it there’s a patriarch to there’s someone there’s a grow spec higher than Wick and just looking at it quickly again just on a Wiki page Wick is the only son of Irv that or only child that’s listed that I know so let me just can I say one thing first like this happened half hour ago I was driving of course so I know I’m going to say a bunch of stuff that ends up to to be not quite right but we’re just this is just happened so on the flight I’m doing my best okay so we’ll we’ll we’ll correct it all in time with exact details but if it’s estate planning estate planning for this is like you’ve got a big messy family and you got to figure this out because you’ve got 14 siblings across three different marriages and blah blah blah like look at the the the New York Giants for example the tises and the Mars and all of this okay Irv from what I could just see has one child that’s Wick Wick has two children and that’s it he’s got a former wife and I don’t know so I but it’s not like just to look at it for two seconds you wouldn’t look at that and go they got to split that up through all sorts of different it doesn’t feel that way to me I see what you mean yeah feels like a small tight family correct it’s all just a long way of saying the estate planning thing no it doesn’t make sense you’d have to have a million kids the bowlan with the Broncos like they’re still fighting over the whole thing I see where well you know what I mean like uh so some of these family they’re all family ownerships now but there’s sort of like I I don’t know I I don’t know if IR grck whis Wick grck they qualify as this it feels sort of like a tight unit as these things go and I also the fact that they put in the release leads me to go huh you’re now you’re automatically trying to sell me something aren’t you right yeah why would you put that in your release why would you just say you’re trying to sell because uh because you know it flies in the face of the idea that he’s doing it as a competitor and you know it goes against the idea that he’s a fan and you know he’s trying to he’s trying to set the narrative y well sure and why would he do that because it doesn’t look it feels a little bit and switchy where Wick is sort of I’m a fan it’s all about the championship I’m one of you oh you want you you’ll give me how much for okay yeah sold no he’s a businessman at the end of the day it’s a business deal so it looks it looks a little cold on his behalf it looks like he was kind of selling you something and then turning around and no it’s just about the money but no no no it’s the estate it’s it’s you know I had to do this because of the estate planning and the family part I think he’s trying to set a narrative I don’t buy that for a second though I don’t I’m sorry I don’t not in deals of this magnitude and the other thing is which is why I started with that I know that’s sort of convoluted but that that did that doesn’t have quite the ring that doesn’t sound genuine to me no and Mike look I’m just telling you I’m going by what I’m reading too okay so we’re all kind of on the Fly here Wick is listed as the majority owner and governor of the team his father is listed as a co-owner is it possible his father just has a small share and Wick actually is the majority owner of the team yeah so so like maybe it’s for Wick’s estate right so like I his kids yeah oh yeah he only has two uh and it’s not you know and so it’s not Wick it’s not Irv to Wick and I don’t even know what that Dynamic is I don’t know I just when I read that it’s like why are you telling me that in the first paragraph of the first minute of the release cuz he doesn’t want the per because of what you said he doesn’t want the perception that he just cashing out like another rich guy it feels it sort of flies in the face of how he’s carried himself which is I’m just one of you it’s not about the money we’ll spend whatever we have to spend we’re fans like you oh but I just cashed out like that just so I think he’s trying to soften the blow by giving you an explanation definitely that I don’t fully buy all all love and respect to Wick rosec I feel there’s a little PR going on with that maybe that’s a small point I don’t know why I started there well I started there because the estate because it’s it said it right in the release um but what makes perfect sense to me is that I never felt he had the money to operate a team like this which isn’t to say that I think he was poor he’s fabulously wealthy and I’ve been saying this every step of the way look at those deep deep tax teams the Golden State Warriors and the Clippers the Golden State Warriors just own and built and their new building in San Francisco and they have these incredible revenue streams coming from Asia that I only know about because I looked at their tax bills and what they paid in luxury tax that’s insane they the Golden State Warriors for the last several years have had the highest payrolls in the history of team sports 12 guys when you add in all the taxes we’re costing them more than football team payrolls okay I say how do they do this well they have all these revenue streams from Asia all these great deals also own their own building okay the other team that’s been up there and paying these kind of taxes is the Clippers Steve Balmer Microsoft okay I got it and I always said Wix got a lot of money he do got that kind of money he doesn’t even own his own building so how’s he going to operate how’s he really going to sign all these guys and make this a a viable business there’s no way I I and I’ve been saying this out loud for a couple years well now it makes sense he’s not he’s not the one paying him Brown Jaylen Brown starts this year Tatum doesn’t start till next year his real money Derek white just signed today his real money doesn’t start till next year he’s signing all these guys and he’s not the one that’s going to be paying them correct good luck to the next owner that part adds up to me yeah he is just what he is he he’s built up an extremely valuable asset that has the pieces under contract and secure and stable so that whoever comes in knows what they’re getting in the short term in terms of you know I I was going to say value but in terms of the you know uh the U what’s the right word I’m looking for the status of the organization they’re they’re at the peak you know that they are in terms of you look at them and say wait a minute not only are they the best team in the league they got two of the young best players both of whom are signed porzingis is signed holiday signed white is signed everybody’s locked into place they got a young coach they have a young executive like the whole thing and they’re in a crazy Sports town so and not to mention the history of the brand and everything that goes with it so like you you can now’s a good time to sell so overall I got a million more thoughts about it uh but overall it’s bad news because the way he was running the team the last couple of years is like exactly what you want your owner to be and how you want him to carry himself and spend and care and invest in the team and Wick is confident uh not I don’t mean competent I meant competent he’s competent he’s a a smart competent guy who it looked like was willing to spend big take losses to win and cared on a deep level it was like a fan but like a a competent fan not like a dummy fan he’s like perfect you know and it just sort of turns out like it looked too good to be true cuz it kind of was he just couldn’t he do have that kind of coin and even if he did Cubans got that kind of coin I think Eden and Milwaukee’s fabulously wealthy they’re also businessmen and they get to a point and they say well what it’s going to cost to operate even with all the new TV money what it’s going to cost to operate versus what it’s going to cost uh versus what we’re going to bring in versus what I could cash out for it makes all the sense in the world to sell right now sell now so it’s a business decision is what it is which again feels a little like H thought you weren’t in this for the business of it which again which is why I think he put that in the statement to try and soften the blow or give an explanation right out of the shoot either way big surprising fascinating story

End of an era for sure
The Celtics are worth a trillion billion dollars
Wyc is trash tbh!
What a filthy sloth he is
I would say my Celtics are worth 4 to 7 billion dollars.
The most storied team in NBA history is not for sale that often. This is going to be massive.

Amazing analysis from felger. Of course, this psycho looked at the tax bills.
what does the old man know that most don't
Either NBA owners know the NBA is on the trend to go down. Or they just collecting the fruits of their labor. But the Kraft's should buy the Celtics!!!!!
