76ers sign Paul George to a max contract, where do they rank in the East? | NBA | THE CARTON SHOW

we have some news in the National Basketball Association that man right there Paul George is no longer going to be a Los Angeles Clipper he signed a 4-year $212 million deal to go to Philadelphia with the addition of George they already have Maxi they have embiid where does this put the Sixers in the Eastern comp Ian they have really good basketball team they also resigned Kelly UB yesterday he’s a good role player for them as well uh and I think this is a move they had to make because you know they need more scoring obviously they saw what the Knicks did the Knicks are obviously a better team than they were when they ended the season and that’s the team that knocked the Sixers out we all agree that everybody’s chasing Boston you know and they’re two great players I had a third because I think Drew holiday is great uh and we all know what the Sixers were they were embiid and Maxi and then what like if they were counting Nick Batum to carry them in a playoff game which they did this past year that’s not a good enough team to run to make a run number two they’ve never gotten past the second round of the playoffs in the Joel em beid era so the process has never equated to winning or deep runs so you have a small little window with embiid still playing I think at an MVP level which he certainly was before he got hurt but that’s also the r with him at what point this year is he going to get hurt because it is going to happen uh and that’s why they’re trying to get themselves a bit of a scoring insurance policy by getting Paul George who they clearly overpaid to get uh they’re going to hate this deal year three and year four of it when he’s 38 years old but in the moment right now today the Sixers nation has not had a lot to cheer about for a very very long time this at least puts them in the conversation along with the Knicks as are we good enough to beat Boston and that’s what this is all about trying to put the piece together to beat the Boston Celtics and even though I’m a diard Nick fan and I hate Philly you do get a legitimate scorer one of the great scorers of his generation in Paul George if he can stay on the court and they’re going to extend Maxi obviously you have a very good basketball team I mean I don’t know why you would say that Paul George is overpaid I mean it’s basically the same Bal that your guy got but uh when you put this team on the basketball court now you have a real legitimate chance of getting getting out of the second round yeah Jo B hasn’t gotten out of the second round but at least you know they lost to the Toronto Raptors in game the shot in the corner Ka but uh it it does make him good I think uh outside of Maxi and Jo lmb now you got a guy like Paul George who can come in and give you 25 30 points on every and look this team’s built around whether or not they stay healthy and no one’s going to argue Joe lmb despite the fact he’s a Flopper and he’s a dirty player which is not really worth you cannot argue that anymore he’s a filthy player but also a great player uh can he stay on the court and Paul George Who last year did stay on the court I think he played 77 of the 82 games games yeah so and that that’s not normal so those guys stay on the court as a DI Nick I will tell you that the 76ers are an absolute threat now in the East if if there’s two words that come with this deal it’s if healthy cuz that’s what all it is it’s it’s if healthy the Sixers are going to be very significant you look at we did some research on this because we have a crack research staff Troy we they have missed games look at the combined amount of Miss games in the last five seasons for embiid and George they just need to be on the floor if they are healthy you’ve got Maxi with the ball in his hands you’ve got a wing and you’ve got a center you got the 1 three5 positions are absolute Aces that is a team that is going to be very difficult to contend with in a seven game series if healthy yeah and but the issue is they’re not going to be healthy because they never are and I give to you know obviously acknowledging Paul was healthy this past year so those numbers really if you consider the fact that he only missed three or four games last year look at those numbers the four years prior to last year he missed almost 30 Games a year on average so we know about the injuries with him we know about the injuries with embid and I’m just going to say this even though I happen to like Nick nurse a lot and I think he’s a very good coach and he’s won a championship so he brings that you know credibility to Philadelphia you stay you’ve stun for a long time you can’t get past the second round and I’ll tell you something right now I would love to play you in the second round next year cuz again you’re not going to get past the second round be careful what you ask bunch of jokesters in Philly look one of my dearest friends uh has the most popular Sixers of podcast on the planet it’s the rights to Ricky Sanchez okay and he was actually my boss as well Spike esin Howard esin son down in Philadelphia they are celebrating today like they want a championship that’s how pathetic it is in Philadelphia when it comes to basketball losers nothing but losers across the board L 76ers that’s what they are they have a depth that chose if you look atck Sixers if you look at a Nick Sixers matchup the the Sixers might have the best two players in the series but the Knicks are just solid one through n where the Sixers do not have dep dude the best player on without Paul George in this lineup last year uh the way that Joan bid was playing if he was healthy he would have beat the New York Knicks basically by the if that’s right look I’m not he he can’t help that guys are falling [Music] into the guy he’s a Flopper he’s a complainer and he’s filthy how many more guys they get kicked every league is the same way no they’re not PLO shame on you you’re a Nick fan where are you I need you pla other than cheese steaks you hate Philadelphia you know that and the reality of this look Philadelphia and I was blessed to have had a part of my career in Philadelphia I was on the radio from 93 to 977 I met my wife in Philadelphia I’m good with Philadelphia yeah on a personal level no they don’t like me but I would say this I was there for the lean years in Philadelphia the pre Iverson years the Andrew Tony years I lived in Philly when you couldn’t give tickets away for people to watch the 76ers Allan Iverson shows up all of a sudden we’re a basketball town again but own this Philly you got to own this in the Joe ellm beat era I don’t care who the coach has been I don’t care who the role players have a lot of of players you have not gotten past the second round of the playoffs and I know your comeback neither have the Knicks I own that we’ve been on embarrassment for the last 20 years but so of you I’m getting a 34-year-old shooting guard at 53 million a year who barely ever stays on the court if you think that’s your answer to an Eastern Conference Final W keep dreaming cuz it ain’t going to happen hey there thank you so much for watching the carton show you
