This definitely makes me feel better. Someone who’s been around the team for years would be best-case scenario for a new owner

    Please.

I do not want a black water/amway or casino scumbag owning the team.

Would make a lot of sense for the other owners to basically just buy Wyc out and become the largest shareholder.

  4. He’s considered the “Rich” one of the Celtics owners, right? If so, I hope he gets the deal done.

  5. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next ownership group is a lot like this one, i.e. a mix of PE billionaires with close ties to Boston. Plenty of people in the Boston area with ten figure net worths who could cobble together a controlling stake in the Celtics.

He was part of a group trying to purchase Chelsea FC a couple years ago. He may have a chance.

So this little nugget is interesting. In my opinion, it all but confirms that Wyc was the catalyst for this sale. I’m seriously wondering if Wyc was having liquidity issues. Everyone just assumes someone like him is rich, and of course he is given his assets, but assets are not actual money in the bank. There’s a chance he was cash poor living off his debt, and it was no longer financially viable for him to keep doing that given the expenses the franchise is about to incur.

Excuse my ignorance but can someone clarify if it is only Wycs shares that will be going for sale or if it is from the Boston Basketball Partners as a whole? Himmelsback tweet earlier reads as Wyc only while the official statement from the teams twitter reads as if all the shares are for sale

I really hope pags buys it unless his competition is mansur

  10. I met Steve once as a bag boy many moons ago at a golf club I worked at. He didn’t tip me at the end and just walked off. So if he buys the club you have me to thank.

Let’s hope a passionate billionaire wants to buy a historically great franchise

As long as a owner doesn’t come in and demand a trade for KD or Bradly Beal we’ll be fine

I’m so confused so does this mean he wants to buy the team outright or just continue owning a percentage?

Being the majority owner, I wonder how much Wyc owns. The entire team would sell for at least $5 billion, but I wonder what the majority stake is, how much Steve Pagliuca already owns, etc.

Just don’t sell to some Saudi billionaire trying to sports wash cash

Let’s hope it’s Pag. He has plenty of dry powder. He tried to buy Manchester United, which would’ve been priced more than the Lakers.

BTW: I don’t think it’s escaped anyone the way the two owners were situated in the duckboats — Wyc, the majority owner, was with Tatum — while Pag was with JB.

Maybe this is Pag’s Finals MVP moment too. Fingers crossed…

Pags almost left when Tsai bought the Nets to be a minority owner and act as governor. Him becoming majority owner is a definite best case scenario for continuity. He was right next to Wyc for the trophy presentation in 08 and this year.

    Just sell it to Pag

I still don’t understand… why sell? Its a cash cow
