Denver Nuggets’ first-round draft pick DaRon Holmes II looks forward to boosting team’s defense
hello everyone Thanks for logging on to cbs.com time now for a few extra minutes with donon Holmes II first round pick of the Denver Nuggets traded up to get him and man we are so thrilled Ron to have you here in nuggets Nation what has just the past couple days been like for you you realize your NBA dreams you’re here in Denver what’s it all been like it’s been pretty cool it’s great to see the city um it just surreal to be in the draft and you know it’s just like now I’m here you know so it was very very cool now you got summer league coming up what’s the one thing you really want to show to the coaches and your fellow teammates um honestly I think they kind of know how I play already you know my biggest thing is just learning the system and you know just being ready to contribute and you know being able to play with my other great teammates I have you I mean you have so much versatility defensively and offensively what part of your game are you most proud of um I have to say both uh I can point out on defense I feel like I do a good job with like I said before using my hands talking a lot uh rebounding and an offense just being able to space the floor um being an impact player being able to play with other great players as a team player you know a lot of times everybody wants to be the guy that’s you know shooting 30 35 points a game but defense requires a lot of Buy in why do you like being such a dominant defensive player I mean defense is more like yeah it’s a one to you know you can coach defense and I think that there is certain things like Scouting Report execution that are very important but a lot of other things is like energy you know rebounding go grab the ball you know so those type of things matter and I feel like I do a pretty good job with that that is music to coach Michael Malone’s ears he loves defense nothing he loves more than a guy who loves defense um when you look at this team obviously get to play with some great guys Nicole yic Jamal Murray Aaron Gordon but let’s talk about joic what do you think what are you most excited to learn from him oh everything like I keep saying he probably doesn’t even need to say anything and I can learn from him but um just what he does like he’s great at passing he’s a great team player he can do it all you know it’s just it’s yic like you know he’s just a three-time MVP so just excited to learn everything from him have you like allowed yourself to think about being on the court with him I mean the way he passes and gets Guys open you thought about what that could mean for you yeah I definitely did I I really think that it’s going to be beneficial you know not only to me but to the rest of the team you know he just makes everybody around him better so I just can’t wait to be part of that when you look at your game are there any players you grew up kind of wanting to mold your game after uh I did want to mold my game after KD at a young age but every kind of long lengthy skinny kid at a young age wanted to do that too and you know a lot of us now are looking and realizing that’s not our game you know not all of us play like that so um I really like KD and Giannis those are my guys awesome I love it um you know you got you brought your family here to meet the media today for the first time what how’s your family helped you on this journey um they’re doing a very good job of keeping me you know levelheaded they’re doing a great job of helping me out with like housing and helping me out with with like this is what you need to do next just letting me like you know enjoy this process you know they’re not holding my hand but at the same time they’re like there so it’s pretty cool to see that that’s awesome what’s the one thing you want Nuggets Nation to know about you um one thing I would want them to know is I work extremely hard and um I’m here to get better and you know it’s going to be a fun ride with you guys man we are so excited you’re going to be wearing the number 14 guys pre-order your jerseys now you can probably get them already uh don we’re so happy to have you here here in Denver welcome and we can’t see we can’t wait to see what you bring thank you so much it means everything and guys thanks for tuning in we’ll see you next time
