TRISTAN DA SILVA | ORLANDO MAGIC POD SQUAD

welcome to the latest edition of Orlando Magic pod squad Dante marelli Jake Chapman and the newest member of the Orlando Magic the 18th overall pick Tristan DVA from Colorado does it get has it sunk in yet NBA player Tristan D Silva uh I mean now that I got this beautiful uniform on it you know it’s a little more real but it’s still a little far right now it’s I mean I’m just trying to you know get s in and get get to work in a little bit more and then I feel like it’ll kick in take us through the emotions of of draft night right I mean all it’s got to be anxiety a little nerves excitement right your dreams about to be realized you don’t know where you’re going to go you have an idea and then you hear your name called yeah I mean I’m not going to lie I was I was super chill up until you know one of my agents walked by and told me you know you’re you’re going to Orlando and then all the cameras pulled up and then all of a sudden I was like ooh it’s happening o yeah it’s about to happen so and then he walked out out you know and I already knew it was coming and he started saying that iconic line and and then he said my name and you know I just I just couldn’t help but smile and be happy and um you know definitely a a very special moment to share with my family and my friends and and my agent um so I walked around the table hugged everybody and then um walked up there it was it was beautiful what what was the draft process like for you it’s long can be arduous process is probably the operative word um did anything surprise you and I guess what are you happy to sort of be done with as far as all that goes yeah for sure I mean it’s a lot of um you know traveling and and working out without actually getting into the gym and getting practice in and workouts in uh beforehand so I feel like you you you ramp up a lot um right before the workouts start and then as soon as the workout starts it’s more you know recovery and then getting to the gym um with the with the actual teams um so that was something I you know experienced for the first time um and then um yeah just I mean taking care of your body and and making sure that you’re fresh uh every single day uh was big um I did all my pre-draft stuff out there in Miami with EXL Sports um and and Andrew Moran at Miami hoop school so not too far from here and um yeah I’m also excited to be here because I know I have you know people that I consider family that aren’t too far too far away from here take us through your your background I I think it’s uh it’s fascinating you’ve got a very impressive family uh you’ve got Brazilian Roots you’re born and raised in Munich Germany but kind of let this is all for magic fans to to kind of get to know your story yeah I mean uh born and raised Munich Germany um my dad’s from Brazil um from Sant Andre and then my mom’s from uh from Germany uh a little little south of south of Munich um yeah I mean um so I got that multi uh Multicultural background and uh spent a lot of my Summers as a kid in Brazil and still have family out there and stuff so uh definitely you would go so you’d go to Brazil during the Summers your dad would go back there okay yeah yeah yeah what would you do there I had been I hadn’t been in a while um you know but just like a family vacation you know um and then then our dad would do all the setting up and all the you know connections that he had in Brazil he would uh he would make sure that we go to to some beautiful places some beautiful beaches um and food is obviously fire uh I already saw on Instagram like a little uh taste testing that y all did that’s coming again lot lot of the stuff I I remembered from back when I was a kid have you gotten much of a have you gotten feedback we have a huge Brazilian fan base which I think is fantastic we’ll have you know sometimes 2 3,000 at a game right have you started to hear from Brazilian magic fans yeah definitely I mean through through social media and then um you know the some of the questions and some of the um media cont that we do uh is for for the for the Brazilian fan base and I’ve heard that the Orlando Magic have one of the the biggest if not the biggest um Brazilian fan base um I wouldn’t say um my my Portuguese is as as fluent as it used to be to be honest um but I still feel um very Brazilian I’m sure it’s better than Jake I promise you that probably much better we had to go there though I think we need to recalibrate expectations for the young man because we keep hearing five foreign languages and I heard you do an interview a few weeks ago you said it’s more like three right there’s French and Spanish you learned in that’s like how I speak Spanish like right I I mean I had it in school and at just a little bit but still fre is very impressive let’s just get that out of the way right yeah I mean like German and English I I lived in those countries I have friends I have family uh I have connections in those countries um so I’d say I’m fluent um Portuguese I never really lived there you know my my dad talks talks Portuguese to me um most of the time I respond in German though because that’s that’s the way I grew up it’s yeah it’s a weird dynamic but that’s how it goes um so it’s it’s good it’s conversational I could you know keep a conversation going with somebody I understand way more than than I actually can speak or that I’ll you know speak in a normal conversation um and then French and Spanish I had in school but but at the time I had it you know it was it was still good I liked it yeah I liked it a lot but by um let’s talk football soccer the good stuff German National Team Brazilian national team if they’re playing each other in a world cup I believe it happened last in 2014 yeah who are you rooting for that was ugly it was1 rightly for Brazil yes it was um I mean I’m like in between so yeah no I mean um that year I kind of knew Germany was a little bit ahead maybe yeah so um I knew what was coming but I you know for for all my German people uh I’m the Brazilian so when I came into school the next day uh everybody let me hear it I bet they did well let us know what you like to do did you play soccer I know you played the trumpet you played extraordinary extraordinarily well what are are some other things that you like to do right yeah uh I’d say soccer is one of the things um you know I grew up doing a lot um I’m trying to get back into watching more soccer um I feel like feel like that’s a big thing that I that I can do now uh that I’m here and now that you know everybody says I have a little bit more free time than maybe in college when you still go to school right um so I’ll definitely do that and then uh I heard about the beautiful golf courses out here so that’s something I’m definitely trying to pick up and trying to uh do some more I have I’ve already been on a couple courses and I really like the vibe of it trying to get away from everything so I wish I never played I wish I never picked up a club it’s frustrating you have a chance to stop right now no but enjoy it no this is this is the perfect place to do it cool tell us about your brother Oscar uh you played you played two games against each other in college which is pretty cool when he was at Stanford uh he was a senior and you were you you were a freshman so you have a little bit you did have those couple of games but he’s playing for the German national team kind of tell us his story a little bit yeah I mean um he’s basically the the original version he’s the blueprint of of what I did yeah um pretty much um you know he was the one deciding to to go to college uh he went to Stanford for 4 years uh majored in BIO Kim um and you know was a first team all Pack 12 player so he really set that bar set that standard um for me and kind of showed me you know what’s possible with basketball so he was the first one to go to college um his end of his junior year um that’s when I started getting recruited um by teams in his conference um and then I ended up you know at Colorado where um the academics and Athletics are are at a very high level as well and um yeah playing against them was super cool obviously uh and it was during Co so I didn’t have any family come out I didn’t have a visit I didn’t have you know any connections from from Germany come to come to Colorado so having him in Colorado and you know spending a night um before the game uh together in my in my hotel room was uh was huge been really special um your game I want to talk a little bit about you declared before your senior year and you went back what did you want to what was some of the feedback you got what did you want to work on over the course of your senior year um and try to show NBA teams yeah I feel like um you know after our pullbacks a lot of the feedback that I had was you know I’m doing a great job getting better every year and I should just keep that Trend going so I felt really comfortable just just going back and and sticking to what I been doing these past couple years and um yeah I stuck to that and and stayed consistent improved my stats over the over the year I got another year of experience under the build um so in general I feel like you know it’s it’s I just kept um building on what I’ve already been doing and um you know developing my body developing my game overall um and then making sure that we as a program win at Colorado because I feel like that’s also a big thing um that’s that’s kind of underestimated is you know you got to be able to to lift your team up to the to that to that level of um you know winning at a high level how much do you love that right team guy you know you could go out and get your numbers but the team suffers right so you went out and and you had success multiple NCAA tournaments and you guys won a lot of games at Colorado when you look at this team magic fans get excited thinking about how you fit with this group right with your versatility your size your length the ability to shoot the basketball which we love right almost 40% from three all the things that you might be able to help this team with trist yeah uh I feel like a bunch of things you know I feel like um my IQ my shooting um my versatility are some of the things you already touched on and you know since I’m since I’m such a selfless player I feel like I’m I’m ready to do whatever is asked of me um if that means my my role is changing a little bit or you know I got to fill in uh into a certain spot more than more than other Spots I’m I’m perfectly comfortable doing that because you know at the end of the day um I just want to win so that’s that’s a big thing for me to to kind of make sure that everybody in the team is comfortable and everybody is kind of set um for you know what we got to do as a team you now Munich I guess is about 6 hours from Berlin right it’s about there did you know much about the Vagner were they a big deal back in Germany even down in Munich they’ll tell you they were but did you know but did you know much about them as they were probably bigger bigger deal in Berlin I would think so no but um yeah I mean by now they’re kind of the the face of the national team as well you know together with with uh the other NBA guys with Sher with Ty um so for you know Munich basketball Community I feel like they’re they’re big um you know mo getting drafted France getting drafted um obviously goes through through the news like crazy and you know they they represent our country um in basketball so um definitely yeah all right we’re going to end you with a couple rapid fire go ahead Jake we’re going to pull up a couple of Rapid Fire questions for you mentioned the food in Brazil is fire rich and I believe you I’ve never been but I got to go oh don’t ask me German or Brazilian no favorite cuisine in Brazilian food do you have a favorite Brazilian Cuisine within Brazil within Brazil a favorite food that you like not not a restaurant but a favorite food like what’s your favorite dish um um there’s a lot of good ones right we can pick two or three you don’t have have to limit it to one I’m going say I mean fada is like the the the most basic one uh costella I really like okay what is that what’s it’s like kind of a oxtail is kind of brazed beef oh yeah okay really really good um you’re in the right spot shasu shasu obviously is uh is like the steak the steak houses when they bring out the P that’s uh that’s when I get busy okay we making a lot of fans there we see you with the 23 right you’re 23 years old which is great but why the number 23 that was a a good question people are always intrigued how how you end up with the number yeah I’m I’m I’m sorry but there’s no cool story behind it um you know one of the one of the numbers I feel like look cool um I didn’t want to you know go with something boring that that might look a little weird so I just I just picked 23 and I played with it in college so I stuck with it I had 41 that was my number it did not look cool I could see you 411 I was going to guess somewhere in the ’90s to be honest with you do you have a favorite TV show are you into TV shows and do you watch anything yeah there’s a bunch I watch um I’ll just finish the the gentlemen I just finished Ripley um I’m rewatching the Last Dance right now are you okay very nice there’s a bunch um yeah bunch of shows a lot of Netflix what do you want your NBA 2K 25 rating to be this is a big thing for guys coming into the league right yeah see I don’t I don’t I don’t play 2K like that I’m not going to lie wow wow yeah sorry hear that I’m more of a I’m more of a FIFA guy okay you’re more and more impressed German team or Brazilian national team or club team how about what club do you support yeah you can’t make me do that uh try I mean being from Munich um Bayern Munich uh Bayern Munich soccer is probably the one resonate the most yeah TW you’re not on Twitter but you’re social you’re on Instagram but you know what’s your thoughts on social media yeah I’m I’m kind of in and out you know I’m big on um you know taking time for myself especially in these last uh last couple weeks uh these last couple months it’s been it’s been a lot so a lot of Impressions that I’m taking in and I feel like you know they’re more valuable if you take them in from um you know the people that you’re around and um so I try to minimize my social media intake all right last thing kind of tell us from for me and then go ahead Jake but Pao banero obviously he’s become a big a big star here certainly an All-Star this year your thoughts on playing alongside Paulo yeah I’m super excited um you know you already reached out to me last night so um you know seems like a great guy uh to to be around with um and I’m trying to you know make his life easier as well so I’m I’m coming in trying to trying to complement his game and um but same same with the other guys same with fron um and um yeah you know everybody kind of seems seem like family everybody seems like they they got a good good vibe good personality a good character about them so um can’t wait to to get them to get to know them a little more you’re going to enjoy yourself just fine welcome again to Central Florida magic fans can’t wait to see you get started have a great couple of weeks I know do you’ll do summer league uh as well and then we can’t wait for the season to get started thanks so much Tristan yeah I’m excited thank you all right you got it that’ll do it for this edition of magic pod squad

  1. so this is a german dub of an englisch interview? The point being it just reminds me of a dub 😀 I might hve just imagined some audio to video sync issues that made me think of it. In any case new to the magic and surprised to see something in German.

  2. Of course when the audio levels are normal, they still fuck up somehow some way 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

  3. As a Magic fan who just happens to be learning German (which, let’s face it, all Magic fans should be doing at this rate 😅) I really appreciate this version of the pod haha. I always knew Dante “Deutschland“ Märchentelli had some sneaky German linguistic ability lurking just beneath the surface 😂

  4. Bro even as a German this sounded weird. They translated it with google or something its not smooth at all 😂😂😂😂😂
