Weber State Star Dillon Jones Talks About Getting Drafted By Oklahoma City Thunder

Dylan Jones made the tough choice to return to Weber State for one more season after impressing NBA Scouts last year at the 2023 NBA Combine it was a decision that would pay off in a number of ways for the Wildcat Legend he improved his draft stock and on Wednesday heard his name called in the first round of the draft pick number 26 the Oklahoma City Thunder used five second round picks to move up and take him that’s how much they valued him Jones joins a winner and a team built for winning long term he’ll play alongside Shay gild just Alexander chit holgren and Jaylen Williams and it turns out Thunder GM Sam prey has been locked in on Jones since last year you know he he told me yesterday like you know um he was disappointed that I went back to school last year you know and I was like well you didn’t tell me that like you know you didn’t tell me you were going to take me you know it was like a funny little moment it was like it was just crazy like the that level of interest from a team and I think it’s more about who that team is you know I think it just it just speaks volumes and it’s a crazy experience real truth is it was a lot of times a lot of hours a lot of you know days punching the clock you know shooting two a days weights whatever it was you know looking in the mirror you know all of that and um it’s a it’s a good feeling yeah it still don’t feel real honestly like it it’s hit me but it hasn’t like fully like set in of course a great story came to Ogden from South Carolina trusted the process and developed himself with some help from the staff there into an NBA player he brings that work ethic and loyalty to Oklahoma City where he hopes to become a champion want you know I I wanted it more than anybody now it was all about how I dispersed that energy you know how did I really Channel it and um going at you know I’ve been telling people like you know going to Weaver like and I had to learn this there it was you know you can’t like you can’t have bad days you can’t have days off I would always push my teammates to that same level it was a lot of headbutting with that sometimes you know when you want people to be great my goal when I went back to school was to put myself in a position like this and um I know I think it’s just a testament to you know the work that I put in I’m just thankful for those times you know that’s what was ultimately able to catapult me being here

The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Weber State Wildcats standout Dillon Jones with the 26th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Oklahoma City traded with the Knicks to jump up to No. 26 and select Jones.

Jones averaged 20.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on 48.9% from the field for Weber State last season.

Jones participated in the G League and NBA Draft Combine in 2023.
