got to be kidding welcome to grits and grinds a Memphis Grizzlies podcast my name is Keith Parish on today’s episode I’m going to talk about the Grizzlies declining Luke canard’s option and what that will mean for the team and for Luke going forward I’m also going to look at NBA free agency also the Grizzlies introduced Zack Edy Jaylen Wells and cam Spencer to the media on Friday plus got some Summer League news to talk about so it should be a very packed episode before we get there just a reminder if you want to support the creation of these shows plus get access to bonus content and my private listener slack Channel you can do all of that at patreon.com Fastbreak breakfast thanks to Allan who signed up over there after last episode at patreon for $3 a month you get access to bonus fast break breakfast all right let’s actually start with the introduction of the rookies the guys who were drafted on Wednesday and Thursday of last week during the NBA draft uh Zach Eed Jaylen Wells and cam Spencer the press conference not a lot of new information came out of that I mean we found out what numbers they’re all going to be wearing I do find this very interesting for whatever reason uh zaky is going to wear 14 of course is college number 15 unavailable that belongs to Brandon Clark I believe back in high school he wore 33 well that’s definitely not a available for the Grizzlies of course that’s Mark Gasol’s number not even mentioning Mike Miller’s old number but Ed is going to wear 14 personally I kind of like it aesthetically how you have jaah at 12 you got jiren at 13 you got Ed at 14 he got Brandon Clark at 15 I’m a fan of that Jaylen Wells going with zero um lots of kind of fun players in Grizzlies history have worn zero before of course my guy Anthony Melton jichael green uh Drew Gooden going way back Avery Bradley um as far as number 14’s all time I’m going to say the standard for Zach e being the best 14 in Memphis Grizzlies franchise history is very very low here are all the guys who’ worn 14 for the Grizzlies back in the Vancouver days Eric Murdoch and Carl Herrera I actually remember who both of those guys are uh and then in the Memphis days Andre EMT Lester Hudson Xavier m Bryce Johnson Omari Johnson Gorgie Jen who might be the best number 14 in franchise history uh then Danny Green and last season Jack White wore it for like what two games or something um cam Spencer taking number 24 apparently he’s a bit of a hot head highly competitive a Grizzly’s Hot Head wearing number 24 where have you seen this before so he of course Dawning Dylan Brooks’s old number that number actually was worn twice last season both Jaylen noell and Lamar Stevens wore it uh the other guys in franchise history Terry deir Oella Harrington Mike batist Bobby Jackson so those are all the guys to wear number 24 um as far as any other information that came out of this uh press conference it was just everyone saying how they’re excited to help and excited to be in town Zack kimman okay Zack kimman did say they were hoping in the second round you know maybe the top of the second round to Come Away with either jayen Wells and cam Spencer and he said he thought there was a 0% chance they’d be able to get both of them and I’m sorry I’m now doing the biggest ey roll in the universe once again Zack kimman saying wow best case scenario we had no idea this would possibly happen the guys rejected to be available were both available so for the record I want to make sure I get this right kimman said he thought there was a 0% chance um that both cam Spencer or they could get both cave Spencer and jayen Wells he said for the Zack Ed pick at nine this is exactly what we hoped would happen and then if you go back to last summer the signing of Marcus Smart he called Marcus Smart the pie in the sky outcome for the Grizzlies a a person they put on their whiteboard is the absolute best Target they never dreamed he’d come available so according to Zack kimman we are one of the luckiest franchises in the world everything keeps breaking our way we got Marcus Smart we got Zack Edy got cam Spencer and Jaylen Wells never dreamed those options would be available for us so now let’s talk about Luke Canard Luke canard’s player option was declined on Saturday I’ve been talking for weeks about how I expected this to happen I was going to be very surprised if they picked up Luke canard’s option this makes Luke Canard an unrestricted free agent it seems like everybody else who covers the Grizzlies was sort of surprised by this and I’ll be real there could have been something or maybe there is something I was totally missing I mean I’ll admit I was a little bit murky on like the first apron rules I was worried once you go over the first apron there’s like things you lose you don’t get back but you can go over the first apron and then as long as you get back under the first apron you’re then allowed to use your exceptions and things so like they could have kept that player option and briefly gone over the luxury tax into the first apron and then of course you hope later to shed salary like then maybe they could try to salary dump uh Z Williams of course then in that situation there’s more pressure you lose some leverage because other teams know you’re desperately hoping to get out of the luxury tax or the first apron so that was an option available to them of course any of my Pie in the Sky fake trades I come up with they’re a lot easier if you had Luke canard’s salary but I just could not comprehend this was a thing that grizz’s would do I’ve been asking for years for them to keep salaries around or overpay guys just so you have matching salaries And Trades they don’t do it I didn’t think they were going to do it this time now the feeling is that the Grizzlies are going to keep Luke Canard despite declining his off option it makes sense I mean strategically if you want to keep Luke Canard it does arguably make sense to decline it and sign him for Less because $15 million frankly it’s an overpay for what Luke Canard offers even I think on a team starved for shooting you look at some of the other contracts that have been signed and I’m going to and you think about some of the other free agents who are out there who I’d argue are better than Luke Canard they’re not getting 15 million a season so the Grizzlies are hoping it sounds like to keep Luke Canard I think a a a reasonable guess for what his next contract would be is something like three years $30 million if it’s fully guaranteed I would maybe even be a little bit surprised maybe three years $30 million third year half guaranteed something like that I’m sure Luke canard’s agency if they were to accept like $10 million per year they’d probably want a player option on the third year but that is possible and the idea that Luke Canard is going to stay um and of course it could happen at any moment one of the difficulties of podcasting during free agency is just everything changes immediately with like the few hours it takes me to create the video versions of these shows like a lot can change in those few hours from when I record from when like they’re released on YouTube luckily the audio versions get up much much faster but like the reason I think we’re feeling that Luke Canard is going to stay it’s not for me it’s not that wge said that both sides are eager to work out a new contract I mean for the record W said just about the exact same thing thing about Mo Vagner Joe Engles Kevin Love and Seth Curry all on Saturday both sides very interested in working something out of course Kevin Love he did in fact um resign with the Miami Heat that’s a little easier though you knew his salary was going to be close to the minimum um the Luke Canard thing it sounds like again there’s an expectation that he’s going to return Jake fiser reported that rival GMS think or rival executives are expecting Luke Canard to return to the Grizzlies Chris Harrington who is way more plugged in he’s actually plugged in you know with the Grizzlies as opposed to me who’s really not um Chris Herington says his feeling is that Luke Canard is going to come back but still I mean maybe a team could pry him away in free agency I don’t really see it I don’t see another team paying even $10 million a season for him if the Grizzlies keep him looks like your roster’s done but because we don’t know the status of the contracts of the guys you drafted Zack Ed of course going to be on a a regular contract on the main roster he’s our 13th player and then Jaylen Wells the 39th pick my fingers are crossed he goes on a two-way maybe we kick Trey Jimson out of his two-way spot and Jaylen Wells gets that but like Jaylen Wells likely could take the 14th roster spot then if Luke Canard comes back that’s yourth 15th roster spot and boys and girls that is not at all what I wanted for the Grizzlies off season I would dispute it’s what anyone want to this off season I would say if you asked anybody about their dream offseason for the Memphis Grizzlies no one said I hope we keep 13 players off of last year’s team and then add two rookies this is the thing I joke about with Sean Coleman I called it the goalpost challenge you can’t go into the offseason saying man I hope we get a veteran big or we sign a veteran Wing I hope we sign a proven NBA player who can shoot or who’s a big and then we also use our ninth pick on somebody you can’t say that and then when the Grizzlies don’t do that and they bring back their top 13 from last year plus two rookies you can’t say that was the successful offseason you were dreaming about of course the offseason just started that Grizzlies roster for playoff purposes has until this upcoming NBA trade deadline to be done like they could create a roster spot by moving Z Williams it seems like looking at the roster now you could move off of zy Williams like looking at the roster now I think it’s worth asking and this might be a feudal exercise with everyone expecting now Luke Canard is going to return to the Grizzlies just looking at the roster right now I’m wondering what’s the best player that Grizzlies should be targeting what’s the best player you should get even if it is de facto Luke canard’s coming back or that’s the assumption is that the best use of the Grizzlies roster spot is that the best use of the Grizzlies money of their resources I don’t I still I don’t think so of course I’d rather keep Luke than L them for nothing but if you look at the players on the team with your guards you got John Morant Desmond Bane Marcus Smart and Derrick Rose you got Scotty pipman Jr on the two-way uh cam Spencer drafted to be a shooter I he’s the spit and image of Luke Canard I mean sort of’s 6’4 you know white blonde kid shooter he also looks exactly like Taylor Jenkins to me but um those guards you’re pretty well set and even like you might consider Vince Williams Jr a guard I usually do but let’s just call Vince Williams Jr a wing and so like you look at those guards that that’s a a lot of minutes already taken between johnar Desmond Baye and Marcus Smart that’s a lot of your minutes already taken right there then you uh you look at the wings you got Vince Williams Jr GG Jackson John conar Jake laravia zy Williams and jayen Wells your second round pick out of Washington state um obviously a lot of unproven talent it’s pretty green I have extremely high hopes for Vince Williams Jr I also have high hopes for giigi Jackson are those guys going to make another leap can we depend on those guys in the playoffs in the postseason I think you’re maybe lacking proven NBA experience there then you look at the B PS you drafted Zack Ed and you’re returning jiren Jackson Jr Brandon Clark Santi odama and maybe you’re bringing back Trey Jimson on that two-way contract when I just look at the depth chart right now it does not scream we need another undersized shooter for me it screams um we need a big still I think it’s very useful to look at the roster and say okay how does this roster look right now if John marant or jiren Jackson Jr misses is a game johnar misses games it’s a thing he does um but so like a game with no johnar you would hope collectively with Desmond Bane with Marcus Smart with Derrick Rose with Scotty Pippin Jr with Vince Williams Jr even with conar you’d have enough ball handling where you could do it by committee and you could survive that when I look at the front court and this goes back to some of the concerns I had about even the Ed pick just looking at the front Court combinations they’re a little bit iffy when the combination does not include jiren Jackson Jr I mean maybe Santi Alama and Zach will be a useful front Court pairing should be good on offense but I have massive concerns about that defensively um if jiren Jackson Jr misses a game and your only available front Court pairings are theoretically uh Zack and Brandon or Brandon and Santi or Zach and Santi I do not feel good about that and because of that I’m thinking this team still needs a big so like if I were to shop the free agent landscape as it exists right now at 11:00 a.m. on Monday July 1st with a lot of my targets already off the board Luke Canard wouldn’t be the guy I would get now I am intrigued of the idea like if Zack Ed hits his potential early on like surrounding Zack Ed with a bunch of smallest guards that can shoot sounds kind of fun I mean it sounds a little bit like a college basketball strategy I don’t know if it will work in the NBA but just adding all the shooters in the world around ed0 okay that’s your strategy fine it’s a path you’ve chosen let’s see how it works out but right now um let’s look at like other options you could get for let’s say $10 million the Grizzlies right now with the players under contract looks like they’re somewhere around let’s say $165 million in their salary right now this is my best guess looking at what we think maybe Jaylen wells’s guaranteed contract could be they’re about $67 million from the luxury tax uh if you retain Luke Canard you’re going to go into the luxury tax and then of course they’re going to probably want to get rid of zier I mean they might stretch zier Williams which honestly I think it’s a bad use of resources I would rather hold out hope like 10% hope that 22-year-old zier would get a little bit better is he 21 I can’t remember I don’t have it in front of me right now but like as opposed to just eating that money I’m not a huge fan of that I kind of hope maybe he just becomes a little bit useful that this 6 foot n guy uh becomes a rotation player as opposed to just again eating the money but like maybe they can free up a roster spot that way maybe someone one of these rebuilding teams like why wouldn’t the Pistons take a flyer on him or like the Wizards or you know the Nets or something I don’t know but anyways um if they keep Luke Canard they’re going to go into the luxury tax but who are some other guys you could get for around that amount I mean I still focus on like I said the front Court looking at this like would you would you still want to maybe sign something like goo baz he’s still out there jayen Smith was one of my top targets just because he’s a versatile big even with the drafting of Zack Ed I like the idea of getting Jaylen Smith because he has a jump shot and in my mind theoretically the fit of Jaylen Smith worked great with jiren works great with Brandon works great with Zack Edy um the Bulls signed Jaylen Smith for three years $27 million we have the budget to do that we could have done that I’m disappointed I would have been happy if they did that could you do that and keep Luke Canard you could if you wanted to spend but I don’t really think they uh they are going to spend that much other guys who who signed who the Grizzlies again theoretically could have gotten and might end up making similar to what Luke Canard could get you see Naji Marshall signing three year 27 million to go to the Mavericks um a lot of people that was their top Wing Target he’s a solid shooter he’s a pretty good Defender I was not as eager about Naji Marshall just because he feels more unproven to me but for a guy with size who can knock down some three-pointers it it looks like a good get for the Mavericks and again that was affordable for you know a player the Grizzlies could have targeted other guys who’ve already gone in for agency a lot of people wanted Andre Drummond he signed for the Sixers two years $10 million very affordable very getable Eric Gordon he went to the Sixers on the minimum he’s a player that you know might be better than Luke Canard he already went somewhere uh you look at Royce O’Neal who stayed with the Suns that’s a guy I wanted he wasn’t really available because the Suns wanted to keep him around because of um basically they needed to sign him for matching salary if they even needed to trade uh in the future also they just needed him because if he left they couldn’t sign anybody new but like he signed four years $44 million Royce O’Neal is a player the Suns got specifically because the Grizzlies traded the Suns three second round picks the Grizzlies traded the Suns 3 seconds for that weird pick swap thing uh we still have a hope of getting the Suns 230 pick but the Suns then Ed those three picks to acquire Royce O’Neal personally I’d rather have Royce O’Neal but um those are the kinds of guys who’ve already signed that like all right I feel like that would have really uh helped the team the players still out there I mean I just think about which players you think are better flat out better than Luke Canard who are getable possibly for $10 million or less if you just look at Shooters if you just look at shooting guards instead of Luke Canard like buddy hee he’s a polarizing player I think he might be a better player than Luke Canard um he I think I saw reported people expecting he might sign for like $6 million um you look at my guy who I’m too biased to be reasonal about it but like DeAnthony Melton who’s you know my favorite player since Tony Allen DeAnthony Melton is likely out in Philadelphia because they signed Paul George they retained Kelly UB I mean Kelly UB cheap deal also one year $8 million you couldn’t beaten that of course there’s probably some under the table Shenanigans there where he’s going to opt out after one season and then sign a much bigger contract next year if that happens we need to investigate that tampering but um I mean I’m joking but like the Sixers by bringing Eric Gordon you know like Melton is getable they probably cannot bring back janthony melson um for those of you repeating the he can’t play in the playoffs Mantra just so you know on the 76ers he made 37% of his threes in the playoffs shocking I know that a young guy would get better but like Dey m is a better player than Luke Canard if of course caveat jeny Milton’s back is okay you look at Caleb Martin I mean Caleb Martin can defend way better than Luke Canard he’s a worst shooter but he’s a better overall player he can actually guard some bigger players as well I mean Caleb Martin might end up signing for more but it seems like it’s possible he would be getable for quote unquote Luke Canard money um other guys to consider like Malik Beasley is he better than Luke Canard is going to be cheaper uh Gary Trent Jr to my eye last year Gary Trent had a kind of a bad year but he’s a better score to me than Luke Canard maybe the difference is marginal there because Luke canard’s a superior shooter um and then there’s like non- shooting guards because again when I look at the roster it’s not screaming I need a shooting guard it’s screaming I need a big and I think about goo batad still he’s available seems like a useful big can block shots he started a lot of games last year for the magic they had success when he started big body not a total zero on offense good rebounder like I I would I would be all about goo batad another guy who I know it’s not even feasible but like one of the best fits out there for this Grizzlies roster it’s Kyle Anderson the reports are now out of Minnesota that they’re not going to pay to keep him because they’re I think they’re approaching the second apron if Kyle Anderson wants a similar contract from what he got the last two years around 9 million a year guys we know Kyle Anderson fits great in a front court with jiren Jackson Jr he fits great in a front court with Brandon Clark by the way we even know that Kyle Anderson playing small forward with a Brandon Clark jiren Jackson Jr 4 five combination one of my greatest combinations ever for the Grizzlies I mean go back and listen to my episodes from three years ago the Grizzlies destroyed teams for a couple of Seasons there whenever they played Kyle Anderson at the three with Brandon and jiren maybe the NBA has tilted so far away from that but like Kyle played small forward alongside gobear and Carl Anthony towns or go bear and Nas Reed in Minnesota I think it would work much better theoretically um Kyle Anderson I think would be a perfect fit just giving you more depth options you can start jiren and Edie but having a guy like Kyle playoff proven who has been one of the most successful regular season players the last three seasons just looking at team win totals because you know last two years on Minnesota year before that the 56 win Grizzlies he’d be an amazing fit but that bridge has probably been burned and they can’t go back there um other players I think worth mentioning and again I probably just wasted 15 minutes for no reason cuz it looks like Luke canard’s coming back and possibly the grizzly roster is done but other players I think they should consider Gordon Hayward Gordon Hayward was horrible on the Thunder which is why he’s Gable but theoretically if Gordon Hayward could replicate what he did last season on the Hornets he’d be a perfect fit on the Grizzlies they need a three4 to me who can create some offense Gordon Hayward can shoot he can create off the dribble like Gordon Hayward even old Gordon Hayward when healthy important caveat would be a really really strong fit for the Grizzlies um I think people want to bring up precious auua and James wisman both guys with Memphis connections precious auua I mean maybe the Knicks would want to try to retain him but he’s no longer a restricted free agent they did not give him a qualifying offer so harste is going to the Thunder Maybe makes want to keep him but like AUA is just a big guy kind of okay rebounder he’s he’s a guy you would never start or what to start but he gives you depth options James wisman of course you know he’s burned out of you know the Warriors and the Pistons and might just flat out be terrible but there’s a part of me that is more interested in like what if we can resurrect James weisman’s career just because of the the positional need and the scarcity of bigs on the team that feels more important to me maybe than than Luke Canard I’m not going to argue with you if you feel differently I’m not even sure I feel differently um I just wanted to like throw that name out there other guys like Paul Reed good chance he gets waved by the Sixers so like Paul Reed could be available that is um a non-shooting just hustle type big player a guy who gets Steals and blocks and rebounds but can’t score at all um sadique Bay is a guy who’s injured who tore his ACL in March so he’s not going to be available you know until like February probably maybe January at the earliest sadik Bay You could argue as an average player but for me position of need three4 he’s a spacer just by his three-point volume rebounds fine and then other guys like Mo Vagner Dario sarich Daniel Ty even Joe Eng Les those are all I think useful interesting players to monitor I would rather have them on the main roster than say Jaylen Wells if we’re talking about that but we’re making some assumptions here if Jaylen Wells is not on a two-way de and then if they keep Luke Canard which all signs are pointing towards that your roster’s pretty full you have to create a roster spot but still um some of these guys like uh like again Daniel Ty Joe Engles I think could help this team you sort of need I feel like you need more depth you need more proven NBA players and of course our goals this summer were to get guys better than STI Alama zy Williams and John Kar and I don’t think we’ve done it yet but anyways um there is more to talk about still with this Grizzlies team we got news about Zach’s participation in the Olympics and there’s other stuff to go over I’ll do that right after this quick break Underdog fantasy is unique fantasy gaming experience where you can play fantasy sports for cash I’ve been using it for almost a year and a half they have every single sport including soccer and the WNBA I use it mainly for the NBA and NFL if you sign up for Underdog fantasy using my promo code $250 and also give you a free pick so if you want to try out Underdog use that promo code it’s a great time to do so remember F bbfc the link in this episode’s [Applause] [Music] description okay at the introductory press conference for the rookies uh Zach was asked whether he would play Summer League or he would be involved with Team Canada what those conflicts would be he said he didn’t know he was going to have dinner later was Zach climing to figure that out well he figured that out uh zachi released a statement saying that he is not going to represent Team Canada at the Olympics he says he made the difficult decision of pulling out of the process to compete for a spot on Team Canada because he has a quote a duty now to properly prepare for all that is coming my way with being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies so I assume that means he’s going to play Summer League but maybe it doesn’t maybe it means he needs to physically work on other things for the season but it sounds like to me he’s going to play Summer League also uh the Grizzlies are really hurting Team Canada as now they have I’m assuming strongly recommended to Zack and Brandon Clark not to play for Team Canada by the way the Warriors forbid Andrew Wiggins for playing for Team Canada so they’re losing players left and right it’s all going to be on Dylan Brooks’s shoulders and of course Jamal Murray and Shay gild Alexander if they end up playing but it sounds like Ed is going to play Summer League instead of attempting to make the Canadian national team he will be joined at Summer League by cam Spencer by Jaylen Wells also we’re assuming by Scotty pipman Jr and Trey Jimson GG Jackson is supposed to play um I think Jake laravia uh Tariq bovich who has been lighting it up overseas once again he said months ago actually that he’s not planning to play Play Summer League or not going to play Summer League maybe that is just because he’s doing I believe the Olympic qualifiers right now um he’s not going to be there um DJ Jeff according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal is going to play on the grizzly summer league team he’s a former Memphis Tiger player and by the way the grizzly summerly schedule was announced we already had the Utah dates those start a week from today uh in Utah and then in Vegas they play on Friday the 12th they have two days off which is not awesome for those of us who already made plans to be there so they play on Friday they’re off Saturday and Sunday and then play Monday Wednesday and Thursday by the way I was kind of joking about trying to figure out if Zach was going to play just by looking at this summer league schedule three of the four Grizzlies games in Vegas are in the tiny gym I feel like zachi is a popular player and it might get crowded in there because people want to see Zack e play also none of the Grizzlies games in summer League are on like ESPN 2 or ESPN they’re all on ESPN Plus or NBA TV or something so maybe they miscalculated that I feel like the people want to see Zack Edy I feel like he’s going to be one of the most popular draws at summer league so um I guess if you’re going to the Vegas summer league get there early to get some good seats to watch Zack Edy and the Grizzlies play now as far as other stuff to talk about the Grizzlies with like I already went over all the free agent stuff and again that’s probably useless it was a waste of my time if we’re trusting that Luke canard’s coming back and I have been saying for a while now that this was my worst case scenario I call this the Doomsday Clock thing where we’re not actually paying to compete and I do feel like yeah we kind of did it I’m worried we’re going to dodge the luxury tax if we keep Luke and keep the squad together okay we’re into the luxury tax and I’ll be wrong there but the idea of not adding a proven NBA player alongside last year Squad deeply disappointing and then just depending on the guys you drafted depending on Zack Edy to be awesome that’s very very disappointing but despite saying all that stuff and maybe this is just fan brain talking I am actually extremely optimistic about the Grizzlies place in the west next year I think they’re still trailing a few teams I mean the Thunder they got Alex Caruso and Isaiah hartenstein added to last year’s Squad that finished with the best record in the west they didn’t lose anybody like that is a scary Squad but there’s been other free agent news that I think directly benefits the Grizzlies you see the Nuggets not paying cavius Caldwell Pope maybe they have a vision of some way they’re going to replace cavius Calwa Pope but that team was starved for depth and frankly starved for shooting losing cavius cwell Pope is a huge blow to the Nuggets um you look at the Clippers who lost Paul George you look at the Warriors who are looks like they’re going to dodge the tax um they’re they’re they’re not going to bring Klay Thompson back they have waved Chris Paul not the Chris Paul was all that last year but like the Warriors who missed the playoffs last year where’s their plan to get better uh the Clippers got worse I think the Nuggets got worse I think the Timberwolves as currently constructed like they’re strong and if Rob Dillingham can make an immediate impact but like that’s a rookie you’re depending on to have an impact I feel like despite my sadness over the Grizzlies maybe not maximizing their chances over possibly going three straight years without using the mid-level exception when they could have I still feel like when fully healthy we are a formidable Squad and have a great chance to finish in the top four of the west of the Western Conference like I’m not scared of the Kings although there’s rumors the kings are going to acquire Brandon Ingram they’re they’re seriously pursuing Brandon Ingram I mean the Pelicans acquired dejonte Murray I think that was a fair prize for Deonte Murray and he should help their team and I think a team that’s that based around Zion and Trey Murphy and deante and Herb Jones like maybe CJ mccullum’s in the closing Five you know sometimes maybe he’s not yeah like the Pelicans lost Jonas valent Tunis by the way why did the Wizards sign him I don’t get it but like the the Pelicans they look pretty good but I mean I think the Grizzlies match up fine with them when fully healthy um Pelicans by the way there’s a report that they are pursuing Wendell Carter Jr maybe window Carter Jr though is no longer available because the magic missed out on the Isaiah hartenstein Chase so despite my like legit sadness that I feel like the Grizzlies are not being an ultra competitive team they are not attempting to use every Avenue and resource available to them to max out their roster around their best players despite that if healthy the Grizzly’s best players are great and so the team should be very very competitive and then maybe we can always cross our fingers come trade deadline they will make an aggressive move by the way as far as some other moves that like I dreamed about and other reports that are happening in the NBA right now um Mike Scotto from Hoops hype has said lots of teams are pursuing cam Johnson not the Grizzlies um the Cavaliers by the way I’ve seen this from Chris uh Fedor uh who covers the Cavs their like shopping list this offseason was basically all the guys I wanted it was like they want shooting with Malik Beasley or buddy hee but also they were pursuing Jaylen Smith also they’re trying to get Cam Johnson it’s like all my targets uh the Cavs are going for um other reports as far as they relate to the Grizzlies also Hoops hype is saying that jarus Walker is unavailable that’s a guy some of us had circled on the Pacers because the Pacers have committed so much to Pascal sakam and Obi toppen of course Miles Turner all right so maybe you could get jarus Walker that’s a big that could fit in your rotation maybe he’s available but Hoops hype reporting he’s not available also Jake fiser has reported that agents of bigs who are expecting to sign minimum contracts have identified the Grizzlies as a possible landing spot maybe they’re just looking at our roster and thinking that hey that team needs a big maybe that’s not sourced with the Grizzlies front office actually shopping for Bigs um I don’t know by the way uh Mason plumbley signs with the Suns there’s a minimum big uh going somewhere so I guess we could wrap it up there because again like news is breaking maybe by the time this hits YouTube the grizz’s will have officially announced whatever the Luke Canard deal is but I do feel like we’re not involved in signing an outside free agent again like yes last year Derrick Rose was an outside free agent but they could have signed bigger fish like Kelly UB who I mentioned earlier signed for the minimum last summer we had a full mle to use if we wanted to we signed a minimum player um maybe the gly sign a minimum big but it’s stting it’s trending towards I think this is our roster it’s good it’s talented is it good enough that remains to be seen but anyways um thanks everybody for uh watching all these videos over the past week or so thanks to all the people listening through your 1. I'd like to see the team add some proven talent for the playoffs. The roster feels lopsided with too many wings and weak spots at PG and center. Adding Delon Wright and Goga Bitadze would have been wise for assurance. Let's see what they will do.

  2. In my fanfiction, they manage a sign n trade with Orlando to get WCJ. Edit: Or do the same with the Pistons to get Fontechio.

  3. They got a veteran impact player last offseason, M Smart.
VW is ready to be our SF. Edey is an older draft pick, and giant bigs like him are in their prime at his age. We are set up for success even with the current roster, especially if we keep our sniper, Kennard. This is a win now team that looks dangerous imo.
    Get excited!

  4. Sign Kennard and roll with it! Jemison is a serviceable big for the reg season. Adjust at the trade deadline if needed! I like the chemistry in the locker room. Don't give up on Jake and Zaire. I think we are good!

  5. My hope is for Memphis to trade Konchar and Aldama for a serviceable wing. Then, sign a big.

  6. You can't call Aldama a big and Jemison is a career G-League player. Neglecting bigs is why we're in our situation. A legitimate backup big should be in order. Drew Eubanks would have been ideal. He signed with Phoenix today for 10 million and two years. Did we even try.

  7. Wait a little while first before freaking out about the roster. Kennard is currently not on the team. And the likelihood of Konchar and Z. Williams are probably not going to be in the team..

  8. Denver probably going to throw money at Kyle Anderson after losing KCP. Jokic really liked Kyle Anderson's play in the playoffs.
