These salary cap rules are giving me a headache but I find myself posting the second time around today since it's one of the best off-seasons the Mavs have had in more than a decade.
I need someone to ask (or answer in behalf of) Andrew Baker:
Aside from the 2nd round picks we got from Charlotte, are we getting a trade exception for Josh Green's contract.
If Grimes will fall under the BAE or possibly the Bertans trade exception. I can't find any details from here. If it's the latter, that means:
- We still have the whole BAE + MLE remaining from the Naji signing.
- A trade exception via the JG trade amounting to around $12M dollars.
- Also, we still have another $4M trade exception from the Seth Curry trade.
Seems like this FO have more ingredients to cook with between now and the trade deadline + possibly extending to next offseason with the JG exception (if correct ofc).

They do not have a meaningful amount of room below the 1st apron, where they are hard capped.
mavsCBA on X and Bobby marks have plenty of stuff explaining the current situation.
Basically, Mavs can’t add any more salary other than the min. If they get better it’s from sending out salary and picks. The exceptions aren’t really relevant anymore for this season.

we took in more salary (Klay) than we sent out (Josh), so we don’t get a trade exception. It was a 3 team trade.
We DO have a trade exception from the THJ/Grimes deal, equal to the difference between their salaries.
