The Orlando Magic Re-Sign Multiple Free Agents

The Orlando Magic Re-Sign Multiple Free Agents

after the Orlando Magic had signed cavius Caldwell Pope to a 3-year $66 million contract Jeff welman in this Orlando Magic front office did not stop there they went ahead and resigned some key and critical free agents and Veterans to bring back onto this roster and I applaud Anthony Parker and this entire front office for going ahead and doing it they retained Mo Vagner goou baz and Gary Harris and we’re going to talk about today what did I think about these moves and how do I think it’s going to impact the team this season so let’s go ahead and talk about [Music] it now magic fans before I go ahead and start diving deep into my thoughts with each of these signings and how it impacts this team if you guys appreciate the work and the content that I make here on Orlando Magic HQ make sure you guys go ahead and drop me a thumbs up hit the Subscribe Bell to stay tuned for more magic content that we do here on YouTu YouTube and make sure that you guys also go ahead and follow me and Orlando Magic HQ on all of our socials especially on Twitter the link tree will be in the description down below so you guys can go ahead and check that out but magic fans let’s go ahead and get into today’s video now really diving deep into my thoughts with these signings yesterday we saw that the magic had resigned Goa baz to a three-year $25 million contract extension as well as Gary Harris to a 2-year $14 million contract extension which now got updated to a 2-year $15 million contract extension then earlier today we saw that Mo Vagner was retained on a 2-year 22 million contract extension and that was my absolute favorite signing out of the three just because Mo brings that energy he brings that swag in that juice he’s obviously a very warm and friendly guy to be around if you’ve ever been around him he’s the heart and soul really of that bench if you ask me and M vogner obviously you’re not going to split him and his brother up in front now that you’ve got Tristan DVA in the draft you’ve got a German Trio here now we just got to bring Dennis schroer to the team but jokes aside I really loved all three of these signings for different reasons it does bring up some questions and concerns which I’ll address later on in the video but let’s talk about the first one goou baz signing a three-year $25 million contract extension I not only speak for myself I definitely speak for the entire Orlando Magic Community when I said we loved this reigning of Goa baz not only only were the Knicks and some other teams out there looking for a big man like baz he wants to be here in Orlando all of these guys have expressed their level of interest in their love in this culture and this identity and Goa baz fits exactly what this Orlando Magic team needs now take a look at what Goa did last year for this magic team he appeared in 62 games started in 33 games and obviously Goa was critical to the success of the Orlando Magic especially early on in the season when we had that niname win streak if you take a look at what Goa did last season he averaged Five Points a game four and a half rebounds and 1.3 assists shot 60% from the field and 65.5% from the charity strike his player efficiency rating his PE was through the roof it was at a 17.8 which I believe would be third on the team only behind Mo Vagner and Jonathan Isaac you could feel goa’s presence out there when he was on the court Goa was one of those players that when he got his minutes he got his opportunity he played his role at an exceptionally high level it felt like the offense was a little more fluid obviously he’s a great rim protector and an interior presence and that anchor down low I really love Goa baz what I saw from him last season and I’m very fond of this resigning now getting into the second signing that caused a little bit of an uproar in the magic Community was retaining Gary Harris on a 2-year now $15 million contract extension and I got to say I did not see this resigning coming absolutely saw Gary Harris walking in free agency but the magic they value what Gary Harris brings to this team and if anything at bare minimum he is a insurance policy if you have injuries through an 82 Game season and especially no in the Orlando Magic’s history we’re going to have injuries on this team it is bound to happen having a guy like Gary Harris who is arguably a top two three-point shooter on the team last season alongside jayen Suggs still a very good and capable Defender so a good 3 and D guy you know you have that insurance policy with Gary Harris plus you know that he can be a great veteran on and off the court for this team so Gary Harris last season appeared in 54 games for the magic averaged 6.9 points nice 1.7 rebounds 1.6 assist shot 44.1% from the field and 37.1% from behind the arc I understand why some magic fans are upset about this but getting a guy who shot 37% from behind the arc is especially when the magic were one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the association you can’t really beat it now Gary Harris he might clog up minutes for Anthony black he might clog up minutes for jet Howard and some other guys which I’ll address later the video but overall I like Gary Harris a lot I think he provides some stability and that insurance policy and every time I’ve talked to Gary Harris he’s always been a very warm and open dude great guy to talk to very easygo so I like the guy personally and I’m sure he’s an incredible Mentor inside that locker room now getting into everybody’s favorite signing this off season from the magic maybe outside of kcp has got to be with Mo Vagner you keep the German Brothers together in Mo and fron Vagner and you’ve got a three-headed german monster now with Tristan D Silva and both fron and mo Vagner I am ecstatic about this signing two years $22 million the magic decided not to pick up his Club option at $8 million and then they wanted to renegotiate give him a little bit of money which MO vog deserves Mo appeared in 80 games last season for the magic and coming off the bench he averaged 10.9 points 4.3 rebounds 1.2 assist shot 60.1% from the floor 33% from behind the arc and 81.4% from the charity stripe he was a very efficient player for this team you know night in and night out no matter whether the magic were at home or they were away Mo Vagner was going to bring that intensity that tenacity and that juice that this team saw and that’s exactly what they got from Mo Vagner on a night in and Night Out basis like I mentioned earlier he feels like the heart and soul of that bench unit alongside Cole Anthony you consistently see him dunking on somebody playing within the flow of the offense and you know he’s going to provide that energy and also like I mentioned earlier Mo Vagner led the team in player efficiency rating last season 20.6 higher than Jonathan Isaac higher than Palo Ben Carroll higher than anybody else in the team this was the most efficient player for the Orlando Magic last season and mo Vagner you reward the guy and you keep the German Brothers together I absolutely was a static about retaining Mo Vagner and I think that this is everybody’s favorite signing for the magic this off season or at least favorite player that we’ve retained this off season now getting into my final Thoughts with all of this what do I make about these moves not only in the short term but really for the long term because when you look at the magic this season they’ve got a ton of depth so getting some of these guys resigned was a little bit of a head scratcher but here’s what I think if I had to speculate because I’m not reporting I’m speculating I believe the magic are going to be making a trade here soon and they wanted to have some Assets Now I don’t know what they would be trading for I’m not saying that they’re going to trade for a lry marinin a walker Kesler a Colin ston hell even an anony Simons I’m not saying that but it does feel like the magic have so many assets that could be valuable in a trade piece for this team because if you take a look at Gary Harris getting signed you’re paying the guy and you’re telling him you want him here in this locker room same thing with goo baz could I really sit here and tell you that I am no for a fact that they’re going to get minute on a consistent basis probably not assuming Health getting back to the lineup thing let’s assume kyp jayen Suggs poo Ben Carol fron Vagner and Wendell Carter is your starting five assuming Wendell doesn’t get traded that’s fine so Off the Bench you’re going to have Jonathan Isaac you’re going to have Mo Vagner Cole Anthony and probably Gary Harris cuz you’re playing him where does that potentially leave minutes for a guy like jet Howard Anthony black maybe Tristan to Silva it feels like the magic have so much depth and so many young players that they need to get reps and experience most notably with TDS ab and Jet Howard so where are these minutes going to get freed up I don’t really see it now you could totally make the argument that Anthony black and Cole Anthony are going to be your two guards coming off of the bench alongside ji MO vog and Jonathan Isaac but still the question remains where are the minutes for jet Howard where are the minutes for TDS possibly maybe he goes to Oola or where are the minutes for anybody else on this roster there’s just so much depth with this team it just brings up that question there’s so much depth so many trade pieces I feel as if the magic are going to make a trade and like I said I don’t know how big of a trade but maybe they will I know Cleveland may be looking to move off of Darius Garland new New Orleans has targeted Wendell Carter Jr there are plenty of opportunities for the magic to make some more noise this off season after missing out on Paul George after missing out on Klay Thompson etc etc I’m very curious to see what’s going to happen these next couple of days but as things stand right now I’m very happy with getting an insurance policy in Gary Harris making sure you resign Mo Vagner who is the heart and soul of this team and really off that bench and then you get a guy like Goa baz who has played and has shown he’s a very capable Defender and a very good player when the magic play him so we’re going to see how this all plays out these are just my initial thoughts when it comes to these signings magic fans let me know your thoughts in the comments down below what did you make about all of these signings and who do you think is going to be the best
