How the Knicks stack up in the Eastern Conference after offseason moves | The Putback | SNY

guys it is time for a new segment called the Cote this is just a little piece of my mind so as free agency rolls around the osme shift but it’s clear that the Knicks are a top Contender according to FanDuel the Knicks are at plus 900 to win the NBA title which may seem like a long shot but it’s the fourth best odds in the NBA to Hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy at the end of the year so Ian how do you think the Knicks Stack Up among some of the best in the association look yeah if they’re healthy they’re right there and I think you’re going to see them win a lot of regular season games because that’s Tom Fido’s M Mo um he has his team playing hard in November in December in March throughout the NBA season so they should win a lot of games in the regular season if healthy and then you look at the playoffs and it seems like they’re set up for Success there too because of the defense I mean if Mitchell Robinson’s healthy you have an anobi you have Bridges that’s really strong in terms of uh defense and your starting five and then Dante demenzo Off the Bench I mean we saw what he could do last year as a starter if he brings that Off the Bench it’s going to be um even more difficult for teams so they should be you know right there with Boston in the East and let’s see what Philadelphia does but they should be right there with those teams uh if they’re healthy and obviously Health you can’t control four yeah Dan what are your thoughts on how the Knicks Stack Up among some of the best in the league well put to you this way and look we’re just getting going here on the summer and I know the teams are going to be making moves trying to upgrade and improve and everything but right now from where I see it guys they’re the second best team in the Eastern Conference and when was the last time as a Nick fan going into the season that you could say hands down the Knicks are no worse than the second best team in the Eastern Conference probably since there was a guy named Jordan that was wearing a red uniform and he was still playing back in the ’90s that’s probably the last time that you could say that hands down and that’s a reason to be excited if you’re a Nick fan what this front office has done the players that they’ve stockpiled and really the culture that they’ve built at Madison Square Garden expectations are Skyhigh and I think the only downside guys is that there’s not going to be a game now for almost four months I wish we could get the season going next week I’m with you Sean what do you think uh I agree with Dan I wish we could start the season immediately honestly this this suspense is going to kill me uh but I’m going to say it now the Knicks will be the first seed in the Eastern Conference we’ll be the number one seed I said before this season we’d be a top three seed maybe not three we ended up at two we got the 50 wins I want us to stay healthy I think what’s also good about the Mel the Mel acquisition is honestly perfect both on and off the floor uh I think that National media is kind of some people are like oh you know the Knicks didn’t get they got marginally better it’s you having two long range defensive Wings next to Jaylen Brunson and having mitell Robinson anchor is such a beautiful setup and not only only that but OG’s issue at times has been durability so over the course of the Season he miss some games and then you just slide missed the reliable AKA Mel Bridges over into the three slot you start D venzo and you don’t miss a beat and so I think this team’s very well constructed for the Long Haul I like us to win between 55 and 60 games and be the one seed and then the playoffs I mean I think in my heart of hearts even without Julius Randall if OG stays healthy Josh’s healthy I think we beat the Celtics this season of course there’s no point in saying that now it’s over they won the championship not be a loser and talk about the rest of my life but moving forward I don’t think that we’re inferior to the Celtics I didn’t think so this season I don’t think so going in the next year and I can’t wait to actually show that to people

  1. The Knicks should be in the top four. Boston, Philadelphia and Milwaukee are going to be tough. The second tier is Miami, Orlando, Cleveland and Indiana.

The loss of Hartenstein is a real setback. He helped carry the team through the end of the season and the playoffs and was a big part of their success. He demonstrated what this team is missing on offense when Robinson is in the lineup.

I would think that with Hartenstein gone, the Knicks have to consider playing Randle a lot at the 5. I don't believe there is anyone in Free Agency anywhere close to be able to give the Knicks what Hartenstein could so there would be a huge dropoff on offense unless you play Randle.

The offense would be better than if Hartenstein were there. Defense would be a problem against some teams with Randle at the 5 because he isn't a rim protector. You would play Robinson in those situations. You figure with Bridges and Anunoby in the lineup the need for a rim protector at center would not be as crucial.

In other words, in most cases, I think the Knicks have a better chance of being successful with Randle-Bridges-Anunoby-DeVincenzo-Brunson than with
    Robinson-Randle-Anunoby-Bridges-Brunson

  2. When you listen to all the Knicks podcasts they all saying we top 2 in the East we can beat Celtics blah blah blah .. when you go to any other podcast outside the Knicks they say we are a top 4 seed right there with Sixers bucks Celtics .. but not better than Celtics and not enough to make finals.. who should i listen too?? Bias fans or regular people who don’t look from a bias point of view??..

  3. At the end of the day staying healthy and getting a decent back up center will be factors in determining what seed Knicks slot into

  4. I don’t like when my Knicks are favored, bad mojo rides in on the bandwagon. And yes, keep sleeping on Randle his scouting report will change and he can beast out like people who know his game, know he can.

  5. Knicks are a top 3 team in the east and top 5 in the league if they can stay healthy I believe they can get over the hump and win it all but for that to happen we need to be healthy and get another good solid center.
