[Gatlin] Jeff Sheppard on comps for his son Reed: “There’s a lot of comparisons you dream about. Can he be a leader like Steve Nash? Who knows. Can he be a player like Derrick White having such a great run as a role player, shooting the ball well, but causing some problems on defense.”

It was a running joke in the draft sub this year that every single non big got a Derrick White comp.

  2. We get the new upgraded version of Nash we might have to many chips to count by the end of it

  3. Not sure why comps are ever used in basketball.

Not sure I have ever watched two players careers and thought “They were exceptionally similar and comparable as players”.

Reed’s a better shooting prospect than pretty much anybody. The comps are limited to guys like Steph, Beal and Nash who were insanely efficient, and who are small ball handlers.

Reed is not really like any of those guys. He is a better athlete than most of them, and he is slightly less creative with the ball than any of them were in college.

So there is no comp. And that’s regardless of if he plays well or busts. He is too small to compare to a Jimmer, too efficient to compare to a Booker. And he will still be all those things no matter how he plays.

  4. I really think we got the best player in the draft. I’m excited to see what he can do
