I like this idealistic take. Little too much optimism from the majority of the fanbase thinking he’s a Vooch replacement right now. Currently he’s a nice back-up C who’s been efficient in limited minutes, much like Andre Drummond…
The shooting remains to be seen if it’s real or just an anomaly. Let us remember Vooch was shooting over 40% from 3 when we traded for him at the deadline.
But if the shooting is real and he can learn how to be better defensively than we may have something here.

I get that he cant really guard 5’s or 4’s consistently, but what about his defensive awareness and ability to help?

What has me optimistic about Jalen is that Billy won’t hesitate to play him at the 5. If DJJ was getting minutes at the 5, I know for a fact we won’t try to force him at PF just because he’s lanky and shoots 3s

Bulls fans saying he’s going to be or even become the starter: take notes.
If Al Horford can bully him, he’s not going to be able to hang with Jokic, Embiid, Porzingis, Wemby, Turner, Lively, Gobert, Lopez, Allen, Ayton/Clingan, Edey, or even like Hartenstein.
He’s a small ball center. If you want to compare him to Bam, Bam has 40 lbs on Smith. Bam is kind of an exception.

He might be unplayable in playoff settings but guess what? We ain’t making the playoffs lol
Hopefully he keeps improving cause he has the tools. He was a high draft pick for a reason.

I think this is a project signing.
The bulls likely think they can build on his strengths and minimize his weaknesses over the next 2 years.
At worst he’s a young solid backup center for a tanking team.
At best they mold him to be a more switchable small ball 5 similar to Adebayo. (Which was his comp coming out of college)

Let’s give him some real minutes to make mistakes
