Golden State Warriors reportedly targeting Utah Jazz Forward Lauri Markkanen

Lori Markin in to the Golden State Warriors I’m just going to put it out there into the universe the options are dwindling the dubs now reportedly going all in on the Utah Jazz big man who can shoot the three ball at just about 40% I love the move they got to go all in I’ll explain exactly why coming up now on locked on Warriors you are locked on Warriors your daily Golden State Warriors podcast longtime NBA journalist who’s going to break down why Lori marinin should come to the Golden State Warriors I’m your host kylin Mills of play-by-play broadcaster and host for the Big 10 Network NBC Sports Bay Area and more and on today’s show we’re talking all things Lori Markin and what would the fit look like should he come to the dubs is this realistic will the Jazz be willing to accept a trade proposal the Warriors would offer there’s reports out there that the dubs would not move Jonathan kaminga so that could be a big sticking point in this deal we’re going to break it all down David I know you’re a busy guy so really appreciate you coming on and for folks at home this is the Godfather of the locked on podcast Network the creator of this entire thing so if you enjoy the content say thank you to this guy right here he’s the reason why I’m here and that Lockton Warriors brings you the best content five days a week how’s it going David it’s good but I don’t want to give you Lowry markeing let’s make perfectly clear um uh or Ivan Drago from Rocky whichever you think he is um the uh cities so uh no but it’s fun to be on my hometown um since I grew up in the Bay Area was a Meno Park kid growing up and uh it’s always fun to be on a on a warrior you’re always fun to go back and call games there with the great Tim Roy by my side and Tim actually was talking to Tim for a long time last night so uh yeah it’s always great to be in the Bay Area in some capacity all right good so hopefully you and Tim were just working out exactly how this deal is going to go down you can just pass the message along to the higher ups because at this point the Warriors options are getting more limited by the day and I love the fit of Lori marinin to the Golden State Warriors first though I kind of want to just get your reaction to overall the way this free agency has gone these conversations even now coming out that the Spurs now reportedly the Golden State Warriors are interested in L lry Markin and the Jazz might actually be willing to shop him around which wasn’t something I thought would be the case even a week ago so I’m surprised how much it’s gained momentum I’m trying to navigate whether it’s gained this momentum because it’s the last name standing or because there’s something to it um you know Danny a has been a Trader over the years but he also hasn’t been right like if you go back to his Boston days he makes the incredible trade for Jason Tatum on Marquel the you know first pick for the third pick and then gets an extra pick that becomes Jaylen Brown and he basically in one trade builds the championship team he also makes the trade that gets Kevin Garnett and gets Ray Allen uh on that end he then trades Rudy goar and Donovan Mitchell there also though were a ton of trades in the middle there in Boston in which he didn’t make deals right for Jimmy Butler for Paul George for other players so if there’s a signature to Danny a it’s he is kind of unbending in what he believes the value is and he gets it or he doesn’t and he’s perfectly willing to walk if he doesn’t get the value so this feels like it’s gaining momentum but I can’t tell whether it’s gaining momentum because there’s nobody else left to talk about for all of the talking heads that are out there and we have 247 news Cycles so people have to talk about it or whether there’s something there it it really probably just dictates like is someone willing to dump a Brinks truck in Salt Lake City to the point where for the Utah Jazz it means they make a slight pivot now there is an interesting quote from Danny a that he made last year at at the beginning of the offseason and he talked about going big game hunting I think it got a lot of publicity the Jazz are gonna go big game hunting but at the end of his I remember that at the end of that same answer he says if we get to July and we haven’t been able to do anything maybe we’ll have to Pivot so there is like if you go back and hear that quote there was a moment there where like oh okay and they have gone big game hunting they went after Chris ABS bingus they went after Drew holiday they went after people at the trade deadline last year they went after Mel Bridges and they haven’t been able to get the deals and maybe it does mean that it’s delayed their timeline uh and therefore trading Lowry marinin for another Cadre of picks and assets is actually the right move the thing is something you pointed out earlier the Jazz I think all the chips because there are teams like the Golden State Warriors who are desperate for that missing piece the one thing they feel like that’s going to make them contenders or at least at least serious playoff teams where the Jazz don’t need to move lri Markin in I don’t think by any means I mean do you feel comfortable if he does come back and they use him as a centerpiece to keep building he’s awesome he’s awesome like your comment like he’s the perfect fit like he’s actually the perfect fit on every roster everywhere in the NBA there there might not be a player that more universally I mean okay like Luca Dona but no actually like Luca you have to get like Luca probably doesn’t fit in Philadelphia right Joel embiid’s probably not gonna let Luca do Luca things um so Nicole yic probably fits on every single roster in all of the NBA but Lowry fits on every roster he can play the five he can play the four he can play the three he can play with the ball or without the ball he can play off a pin down like Clay did and that’s actually how he used him that that kind of clay I think the number one and two off ball screen teams in the league last year with the Golden State Warriors and the Utah Jazz because we’re running Lowry Mark and off pin Downs on the wing when you’re running a 7-1 guy off a pin down we can get into the X’s and O’s on it it’s unguardable because if you switch it the chances are the guy setting the pick is a center well then your Center has to guard Lowry Market on the wing if you don’t switch it then you’re caught on a pick and he’s open for a pin if you drop if you play under it then he just steps back for a three and he’s a 40 plus percent catch and shoot three-point shooter he’s marvelous um his only weakness is you probably can’t throw him the ball at the nail and get a bucket late in games quite the rate you’d want that’s not a problem for you guys you got Steph Curry um it’s not a problem for you know he he’s probably not the best player on a great team but he might be as important as any player on a great team he’s fabulous a couple of things that stood out when I watched his tape David is number one he’s got a pretty quick release so first of all that works in his favor when it comes to the pick and pops and those kind of catch and shoot three situations the other thing is he talk about pulling a center out to guard him on the wing he’s athletic enough to where he can attack a close out and put the ball on the deck and get to the rim am I wrong no he absolutely and a power finisher uh particularly against Chicago a few years ago when he had a score to settle he put a he put a rimrocker down that was loaded with all sorts of three or four years of frustration his career trajectory like why is Lowry marketing suddenly become so um interesting to people like if you follow his career trajectory he he’s in Chicago he comes as a 19yearold he’s still very young if you kind of want to get into all the details he’s he said the hardest year of his life was coming from he has a very close-knit family coming from Finland to Arizona and he gets dropped in Chicago he actually gets married almost immediately at that point and I think he’s just lost then his second year the second year in the league they do all the things you do with a developing Talent they gave him the ball they gave him the ball in pick and rolls they gave him the ball and basically they turn the Fran and they let him you know have a year of misery trying to learn year three was supposed to be the year and then they took it away from him like Jim boand for no reason and by the way if you just want to get a really good player get someone who played for Jim boan and then get him L it’s the no I know this doesn’t work for the Warriors won’t like this one but it’s the Luke Walt and Jim boan Theory players who played for either Jim boin or Luke Walton get them afterwards go look at the numbers on all of them it’s quite something um and Jim boan you know he changes gears and now Low’s pissed and he’s unhappy and grumpy and and then the relationship dissolves in Chicago then he goes to Cleveland and he kind of plays the three and he comes back to Utah and they finally give him all the things he was supposed to do in year three of his career he’s just a little more mature in a better place has two kids more mature and he just tears it up and he’s just been absolutely fabulous and wins games and really I you know Warrior fans will cringe what I say this because you had the pleasure of watching him in person the only player in the NBA that has his same skill set is Kevin Durant at his sze Kevin’s better at all of it but Lowry had because you can give Kevin Durant the ball on the elbow and get that bucket late in the game but that’s but that’s frankly other than that like Lowry’s a 40% three-point shooter he’s a great two-point he’s a better Rim finisher probably than Durant is because he’s more powerful and he’s 7 feet 240 pounds and just sculpted it’s crazy it’s crazy and I want to get more into the skill set specifically how that might look with the Golden State Warriors I know that you said you feel he could fit in with any team but a 7 foot floor spacer specifically I love but the Warriors also do need to improve defensively so I want to get your takes on exactly what Lowry marinin brings in the defensive side of the ball not a great shop locker but can he do enough to help this stbs team but we’re going to get into all of that here coming [Music] up tell you what though it is that time of year where NBA SE season is over you’re just waiting for until NBA season comes right back around visit fanduel.com locked on and add a big win to your summer bucket list FanDuel America’s number one sports [Music] book diving more into lri Markin and skill set because we love to keep things positive here and he is a player I’m excited about for once first of all David I’ve had an issue with a lot of the players who are available in free agency being 34 plus there are rumors about Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors with his injury history I’m like not great Paul George I do think would have been a Bonafide secondary score which is what the Warriors they should have they given up kaminga so that’s where there’s a big divide in the Warriors fan base should they have given up kaminga and the same question is going to be asked with Lori lri marinan should they give up a Jonathan kaminga starting to teetering to the side of yes I’m teetering to that side because listen Steph Curry needs help I still believe that you can get the most out of what’s left of his prime I’m of the belance that Steph Curry is still in his prime some people are back and forth and saying just throw it in throw in the towel this is it um I’m not of that belief and I think you do give away Jonathan kaminga I think he’s being a little bit overvalued to be honest um but I do want to get into First Market and skill set before we get into more of what the trade would realistically look like if the Warriors pull something off with the Jazz I’ll just go on record that I agree with you you were given you were given a gift from the basketball gods in 19 2009 and you need to cherish every second of the gift that the basketball Gods gave you in 2009 for every last ounce of it and pay the penalty On The Backs side the the the trying not to pay the penalty and on the backside of one of the 10 greatest players in the history of the NBA is problematic to me trust me if you are listening and not watching I am making all sorts of hand gestures just completely agreeing with you David 100% um you know what pay the tax pay whatever it is Steph Curry is only going to be around this game so much longer you’re watching greatness one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen in person is him dropped 60 points could not miss and you still have that on your roster you’ve got to make the most of it do the man a service and I think that bringing in a lari marinin would certainly do him a service at least in getting Steph help and a reliable secondary score and maybe making this team contenders I don’t know that I’m ready to go that far yet I want to see how some of the other pieces come into play for this roster markkanen’s numbers coming off his first NBA All-Star season averaging more than 23 points per game eight plus rebounds per game two assists nearly 50 40 90 shooting splits if I’m not mistaken just under a 40 % three-point shooter and once again he’s over seven feet tall um I don’t know what’s not to love but I guess from watching him up close what’s he like as a person David what’s he like to cover what are some of the intangibles that you you’ve seen he’s great there’s really nothing you’re not gonna get me like I I’m I’m all in for the Goa I’m waiting for the Goa like I’m all in on Lowry like he’s funny he’s trying to learn how to be a leader he’s not a natural leader he’s our best player he’s been thrust into that position I’ve watched him try to learn it I think he’s done a nice job trying to figure it out he’s witty with his teammates he’s nice to interact with he’s thoughtful um he’s comes to practice every day like the guy’s I mean he’s kind of like his I mean I just still love to sit Courtside like it’s funny you say Steph Curry watching drop 60 like I still like if someone asked me about Steph Curry like I would talk about I go every time we play him I sit on the court front row and watch his warm-ups because I just think it’s amazing to watch the greatest in the world warm up like I’m a little bit of that way with Lowry too like he’s not on that level don’t misunderstand but when you start talking 5040 90 it’s 7 feet and 240 pounds and that sculpted kind of unbelievable ability to have that size and move like a ballet dancer like there’s something pretty incredible about it so um to me I I do see Lowry kind of in this unique group of players and when you start like talking about you talked about his quick release like if we start getting into like the best catch and shoot guys in the NBA he’s often there right like it’s kind of like that’s an incredible thing there’s no time his shooting window ever disappears now you’re if you add Lowry Markin into the Warriors and draymond’s right okay that’s the key right draymond’s got to be right big key I mean I I think I think you got a chance I think you got a chance like you need figure out some things and you know I’m not sure Kyle Anderson’s told you that answer but you know or um you know there’s probably some pie and then how much you giving up because frankly you know you want to go to ESPN trade machine click it all you only got three first round picks or two or three first- round picks so I want them all I want psky I want kaminga I want Moody I want them all well that’s the thing what’s the rest of the lineup look like if you’re sending away those three because as of right now those are three who are expected to have key roles if not be starters at the moment so it’s like what does the lineup look like so I think like you said there’s still some questions be answered now can I give you an amazing note on low marinin yes please by all means we love amazing notes he took more catch and shoot threes than Klay Thompson per game Lester no he didn’t well actually I believe that sadly he took them well Klay took the third most of anyone in the NBA at seven a game Lowry took the most low took seven catch and shoot threes a game he made 41% okay okay of players that took at least five there’s only three players in the NBA that shot better than 41% Steph Curry Malik Beasley Sam Hower Lowry marinin that’s so he’s as good as any catch and shoot guy in the NBA and he’s seven feet tall for an organization that just offloaded Klay Thompson and needs more floor spacers because honestly they don’t have well now with some of the changes they just made but they haven’t had really any good three-point Shooters coming off the bench the last two seasons either like desperately need that extra ability to space the floor right now in the front Court you’ve got Draymond Green and cavon Looney who you don’t have to guard if you’re a Defender like those do actually Draymond this past year shot the best three-point percentage of his career so I shouldn’t knock him too much but typically those two you can sag off it gives more opportunities to double team other guys like it’s just kind of a mess and with the Warriors having a smaller margin for error it’s been tough to get Steph open and to create space on the floor because you’ve got two guys you don’t have to guard um and then Klay Thompson’s inconsistent that’s been the big issue um I actually love Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks for them because I think it makes a lot of sense where he doesn’t have to be the reliable secondary scorer he can simplify his role to catch and shoot because the warriors were struggling some with floor spacing creation he was doing too much the last couple years too much hero ball too much off the dribble but Lori markon coming in being able to catch and shoot amazing but I’ve been trying to find some holes in this game and I’ve got a couple questions a little bit but first one is just going to be something I saw a couple fans commenting on in some of the chats but just durability hasn’t reached the 70 game threshold in any of his seasons in the NBA he looks to me when I watch him like a really tough dude down there um but just kind of curious where would you rate him in terms of durability the Warriors really can’t afford another guy they’re already trying to give Steph Curry some of those nights off Draymond Green some of those nights off I like that he’s 27 but what are would you say is the durability uh of lry marinan so on the you have to look a little deeper on the last two seasons so great question but if you really go to it uh he plays 63 of 70 games in the 2223 season and then just leave it at that like go look at what we were doing uh to some extent he plays 51 of 61 games this last year and then we proceed to win yeah three four games in the final 20 and Lowry helps us win games um so yeah there has been an injury in each season like I think he missed about eight games in the middle this year um and I think he missed about eight the other um I’d have to go back I there is not actually a great track record by the way on players like you actually injury-prone is actually kind of a myth yeah um so I mean if you get to the age of clay or something like that you’re going to just start to miss games but injury proness is actually statistically doesn’t totally hold up I don’t know exactly why he only played 52 and 50 in Chicago in those two years um so I I don’t have the exact answer on that one of those might have been a shortened year but um in the last two years in Utah he’s been relatively healthy with a gap of seven or eight games but the 66 and 55 are a little misleading 100% given the situation the Jaz were in I do get that I do want to follow up about defensive fit though here coming [Music] up my follow-up to that is just general defense from Lowry marinan um it’s a little bit of a unique situ situation where you’ve got a seven-footer who isn’t a true Center the Warriors would have a 6 foot6 Draymond Green possibly playing the small ball Center I mean finding a true Center is something a lot of fans have been calling for in the off season calling for they did just draft a guy now another seven-footer so you’ve got two on the floor or at least on the roster to this point um but in terms of Defending on the Block he’s not a great shop blocker that’s something that I think’s been documented but like I said from one of watch he seems pretty tough but just what are your takeaways on markkanen’s defensive abilities realistic like who’s he guarding what’s he been able to do two years ago he’s actually one of the better Rim defenders in the NBA it’s a little bit of a funky number in the NBA because you never sure who the next guy next to him is right um but when he was the primary Defender within six feet or when he was a Defender within six feet he was actually one of the top five or six I’ve actually always thought had the Jazz progressed as I thought they were going to that he would play probably 18 minutes 16 minutes a night is a five okay I’ve always liked those five out lineups with him as your five and I thought he defended it fine yeah um he’s not a great rebounder that’s certain um but I have not found myself thinking his defense is lacking I mean if you want me to poke a hole in his game I think he’s fabulous the hole to poke in his game is he’s learning to be a passer he doesn’t do a lot to create for his teammates so when he gets the ball and he’s making a play you know he’s not he’s up a good deal he’s from one assist a game to two um basically in Utah but he is not one who is at the stage yet where again give him the ball in the elbow make him collapse the defense and get it to somebody else that’s not quite who he is yet um or or really has been yet so that if I had to give you a area of his game where he still needed Improvement it would be you can’t throw him the ball with 30 seconds left and seven feet tall as much as you’d like to be able to and have him get a shot off to win a ball game and then his passing has not been particularly on display defensively I think he’s he’s fine he’s not going to win a defensive player of the year war but I don’t think you’re going to be walking around thinking that like he’s hurting you right I mean that’s the bottom line actually the warriors were weaker at their perimeter defending than their interior defending actually so maybe not the biggest concern but again if we’re trying to find something to look at yeah I mean the War I mean I asked Steve about this Steve cert about this during the season last year and he gives all the credit to Draymond but you guys have the Warriors have some incredible statistical numbers where they do not allow shots at The Rim it it’s at a rate that’s much better than any other team in the NBA they’re doing something differently you know Steve really gave that credit to Draymond but Draymond didn’t play that you know like he he didn’t play every game last year so there’s something he missed almost 30 games to be there’s something else to what’s going on with their system and I think the way the Warriors didy shots at The Rim I I think that there’s a real I think that you know I think there’s a real chance that Lowry would fall into that and be and very very good at it well that’s all music to the years of Warriors fans my final thing that I want to pose to you is realistically like what would the Warriors have to throw at the Utah Jazz I know we’ve touched on draft picks maybe all three of the young guys uh what do you think this front office is set on are you looking at hey we really want first round picks hey we care more about getting all three of these young pieces do you think it has to be all three of those and all the picks he got to bring a market into the Golden State Warriors yeah I mean I don’t know let’s just be really clear even though I’ve got this mountain on my chest I I really have no idea um I I can’t I I could turn out to be totally wrong but I I you know I’ve been I’ve done the same thing I’m like we’ve all done the same thing right I’ve put Golden State in um I did it just you know to go check and see really to see what the draft Capital was and I put you look at the draft capital and then you start what I don’t remember what trade it was but the fact that you don’t have enough picks right the Warriors are lacking picks compared to some of the other teams so like the 2025 first round pick yeah uh kind of want it but don’t really you’re probably going to be okay so maybe it’s we want 2026 and 2020 2029 is now available so you probably want 2025 2027 and 2029 for three first round picks um you can’t take every if people don’t know the rule the steppan rule means you can’t take back-to-back years so you’ve got to take 05 0709 and the ones you really want is 09 right like yep the warrior going to want to protect 09 in some capacity is Steph’s going to retire and we’re going to say no we don’t want like there’s going to be the first sticking point of the negotiation is like what protections exist on 20129 and I think the Jazz are GNA say like no protections like um this is the whole reason we would make the trade is to get 2029 and probably get 2027 and hope that in that something happens or a pick swap in 2028 in case something happens um in you know you start playing and using Donovan Mitchell and Rudy goar is trades and then yeah so I mean I don’t know I could make we could make something up we can go to trade so I want 2025 I want 2027 I want 2029 I want a pick Swap and 2028 and then if you’re gonna give me the Pick swap in 2028 then I probably want two of the three now the problem for the Jazz i’ actually have to go look I think we actually have like three pick swaps in 2028 already so if you you can’t actually you don’t get more picks for pick swaps right right right and so it’s actually tricky thinking about the Jazz situation I just was thinking about you know maybe we’d actually want 2026 and 2028 and a pick swap in 2029 right because and then and then three of the players because we have I gotta pull it somewhere but my off the top of my head we have the Cavaliers 20 and the timber rols 25 and 27 and 29 and then we have pick swaps with Cleveland and 28 and a pick swap with Cleveland and Minnesota in 26 so I don’t think we want like if we’re playing around here like 2027 we already got four first round draft picks as of right now so we probably want the 2028 and a pick swap in 2029 and we want 2026 and then we like kaminga and we like psky that’s the thing the fan base it’s interesting the Warriors fan base is split right now some say don’t give away the picks because like you said 2829 Steph is going to be retiring at some point we got to keep those and then the other half says we got to keep Jonathan kaminga if you’re the Warriors we touched on this at the beginning but I want to get full take would you give away Jonathan kaminga for lri marinin or even another big piece you know I know the options are limited at this point but kaminga reportedly was the big sticking point in the Paul George deal that’s come out now the athletic is reporting that the warriors were refusing to give him up and that was a part of why the Clippers denied it again there’s all kinds of reports out there at the moment but would you give that away I just haven’t watched him enough to know perfectly honest um coming out of the draft did not shoot well in the g- leag mhm the data I have on players that shoot as poorly as Jonathan kaminga which includes Ron Holland and multiple other players in this last draft Stephen Castle is that they actually never shoot well the myth that you can turn someone into a shooter in the NBA is a myth we’d like to talk about Kawhi Leonard he’s entering his 16 Season find me another example in the last 15 years I would appreciate it um it’s interesting you say that because something the Warriors have brought up is possibly improving Jonathan in at some of the shot making and sliding him to the three right now he couldn’t be he couldn’t work the three but sliding him from the four to the three but he’d have to improve the shooting but he can’t like I mean the three and the four have to be able to shoot the three like I think it’s a real it’s I guess I’ll just say this with not watching him every day not knowing enough to comment definitively okay fair surprising to me that a wing player who takes two threes a game makes 32% in a league in the Champions just had I think seven players that shoot more than five a game and all make like over 36% would be so valued that you wouldn’t go get a 69 multiple time two-way playing Allstar is super surprising to me I’m with you dude I’m with you and people love him they say the generational athleticism but at the end of the day you got to shoot the rock if you’re going to play the three or the four I’m 100% with you um W to switch K is really really quick before I let you go David because I want to get your take as someone who’s long covered the NBA on what’s transpired in the last 2448 hours with the whole Klay Thompson deal departing the Golden State Warriors it’s continued to dominate the social media feeds today so many folks around dub Nation still just in shock that this flash brothers are officially broken up they’re officially moved on and today there’s been a lot of finger pointing at the organization there have been reports coming out that it was Joe lob the team’s owner who was leading trade talks in a little bit of a cold manner there was an aonic communication that’s how he like lies to do his dealings again this is all according to reports that have come out today from the athletic and other organizations and that’s the way that things went with Draymond Green a year ago so you know they were playing maybe a little bit of hard ball and then Klay Thompson said yeah all right I’ll walk and a year ago Klay Thompson bet on himself with that two-year $48 million offer the Warriors had so you know there’s a little cat and mouse game going on and at the end of the day he walks he goes to Dallas Mavericks I guess just what was your big picture reaction thoughts on seeing the Splash Brothers broken up just the way that free agency is played out and see something like that happen where I do think there were hurt feelings I will say I’ve got sources inside the organization that say you know there was some of that that played a factor no doubt well I think we had one of the games this year where Steve benched clay or the day after like I think I think it was actually in Salt Lake that Klay didn’t start unexpectedly psky started um and it was in and it was clear that he was not happy um all right here’s the first thing I would say I’m I’m old um when they did last dance during covid and everyone got to sit around watch it I was able to freeze frame it at one point and say hey kids there’s Dad because I covered the Jazz when the Bulls were playing that’s how old I am the Bulls were the ultimate Rock show they were the Rolling Stones they came to town there were thousands of people outside hotels it was crazy it was insane the only other thing that’s ever been like it in my 30 years now in the NBA was the Golden State Warriors with Ste Steph Curry and Klay Thompson there were lines outside the hotel it was a mad house everywhere they went thousands of people in the arena the minute the doors open flooding to get down to the floor and as an announcer in the league you knew you had to be great like you had to be and I still am like the the greatest thrill in my life I’ve never I always joke I’ve never done cocaine I have no idea what it is but it’s got to be pretty darn close to trying to explain what Steph Curry’s doing on the floor like and nailing it like if you get it watching it up close watching it up close like I said to you like unbelievable and Clay went off against us this year if I remember correctly had he went back in time against us and it was awesome and you know just as an announcer on the other side like I’m not one of these guys who just only roots for my team I love the greatness and watch it and so yeah like that game in Sacramento I’ll never forget watching it I kind of am obsessed with the league I you know people always ask me have you seen breaking bad no do you see the wire no I watch Klay Thompson and Steph Curry every time I could like I just watch the league that’s what I do and so like it was a rock show that was unequaled in the league and hasn’t been equaled since the Bulls and I don’t know when when we will see I kind of don’t think we will see another one for some time here um I don’t think the B the Celtics H there’s a chance the Celtics actually are dominant here there’s a there’s a minor chance that the Celtics in a parody driven League or the one team that’s not parody um you know the greatest team I’ve ever seen in my life was the Durant team and I watched the Bulls the great Bulls teams up close and personal but that Durant team is the best team I’ve ever seen in my life um I saw the heatles up close and personal that was obviously the other one that would be in this of teams I think that Durant team was better but you know so I’ve been covering the league since 1992 it’s a long time um in 32 years have been three versions of this kind of rock show that goes beyond the NBA and the and the Warriors are one and Warrior fans used to fly to Salt Lake City because it was cheaper to go fly to Salt Lake get a hotel and buy a ticket than it was to see a ticket in Oakland I mean like insane and Chas Center I mean that that and so the Rockstar the other one I will just say to share with people and I’m not saying this to I actually mean this B maybe if I’m the Warriors I understand what you just did and if I’m Klay Thompson I have the most respect for you ever um I talked about it beforehand but I I do enjoy watching the greatest players in the world warm up I think there’s something to it you get close to Clay his legs aren’t even close like his one leg doesn’t work the fact that he’s running around out there for 30 minutes a night with the greatest athletes in the world on a leg that doesn’t Bend correctly anymore its gate is not right this you can totally tell which Achilles went like it’s they’re not close to each other and it doesn’t look normal the fact that that dude still is hitting 40% of his threes is absolutely astronomical but I mean I literally was sitting there with people and looking at it thinking to myself like how does he play like it’s crazy what he’s come back from so on one level if you’re the Warriors and at some point you got to say something’s got to give like that’s the one that had to give yeah at something at some point something had to I think it’s just you know the Nostalgia factor it’s sad you wanted to see him retire a warrior alongside Steph Curry alongside Draymond Green but it’s a business and at the end of the day decisions had to be made but what he’s accomplished to your point uh incredible coming back from those two types of injuries to shoot even 38 and a half percent from Beyond The Arc which was a down year again we say down Clay’s coming off a down year I mean a down year for him is still an incredibly productive shooter dealing with like you said a leg that doesn’t work it’s insane but David thanks so much for coming on really appreciate your Insight and your time I know you’re a busy guy uh and again this is the founder of The Golden State Warriors are reportedly aggressively pursuing a trade for Utah Jazz Forward Lauri Markkanen. However, questions remain about what the Warriors would be willing to give up to bring Markkanen to the Bay. ESPN is reporting that the Dubs refused to deal Jonathan Kuminga in trade talks with the Clippers for Paul George. Kylen Mills is joined by Locked On Jazz host and the radio voice of the Utah Jazz David Locke to discuss the Markkanen fit and trade proposals on this episode of Locked On Warriors.

  1. I wouldn’t trade Kuminga for Lauri. I would only trade Kuminga for a major game changer such as Giannis, Jayson Tatum, or Jaylen Brown. And those players aren’t available.

  2. Lauri is a great player and i see more value in him than jk I love jk but we can't keep making an excuse to not improve this roster now for curry people want him and eventually he gone have to go unless they can do a 3 team trade cuz we don't have the assets besides jk we just gone be stuck with a mid team. F the future curry here now when curry and draymond leave the team probably not gone be that good to do what curry and them have done. We keep giving up players because of jk i love him but like they said they giving him too much value that we could of had we could of had pg lebron and more probably lauri by now. Curry is here now warriors wont be the same after him.

  3. Warriors need this guy, it be like durant when he was with us. Otherwise we're finished for another 40 years like before. If only they would get this players when it comes up. But they never do,except for durant. Only good trade they ever done

  4. Warriors have needed a skilled big man for years, even Pascal would have been awesome last year. We need a big man but not giving up Kuminga.

  5. THEY NEED TRADE FOR LAURI..IS HARD TO KNOW IF EVEN KUMINGA WILL BE WHAT IS LAURI RIGHT NOW…LAURI STILL YOUNG GOING IN AGE PRIME…HE CAN REBOUND..SHOT 3..WE GONNA BE HARD TO GUARD..WHEN YOU HAVE 7 FOOTER GUY CAN SHOT LIGHT OUT WITH BEST SHOOTER EVER PLUS I HEAR THEY ADDING BUDDY HIELD…PLUS MELTON AND ARDENSON HIGH IQ GUYS THAT PLAY DEFENSE AND CAN HELP WITH SCORE MELTON CAN GIVE YOU 14 EVERY NITE EASY…AND FEW STEAL..SLOW MO..IS ONE THE SMARTEST GUY IN NBA…WITH DRAYMOND ALSO BEEN SO SMART THEY CAN BE DEADLY AT END OF GAME TO MAKE A STOP AND MAKE SMART PLAYS

  6. see this is the issue with guys sitting out guys for rest games and tanking- then we have to assume any game missed is a rest game. Unless theres a bobby phills situation or reggie lewis. … where the player is actually dead. But if they are breathing and they sit- its either tanking or a rest game

  7. Al Horford and Brook Lopez are two players other than leonard that learned to be good shooters at their positions. Lopez did not shoot like that when he was playing for stanford.

  8. Lauri solves three things
    1. Size
    2. 2nd scorer next to Steph
    3. Fit next to Draymond.
The only thing is the compensation. Ainge got a brinks truck for Rudy Gobert, scared to see what he wants for Lauri. And also scared he gonna want all the young guys, like JK and Podz.

  9. Listen closely . I guarantee you Wighins will be better he had a bad year . He us just 29! He will be more aggressive. Kuminga is a star in the making absolutely He will improve his ball handling continue getting stronger and more comfortable. Moody has what it takes to be 15-18 ppg plus his energy shooting slashing hard play remember Moses is just 22 & Kuminga is 21. Podz had a great rookie year and is looking to improve on that I live his grit his attitude plus being a fellow lefty I gotta love it I see Kirk Hinrich but better in his game. TJD like Podz had a good rookie year both will be on the USA select team which is super great for them so all the improvements along with Draymond staying on the court and showing the world that he can ball out without missing his big 3 member .GP stay healthy ..Curry will be go kill mode this year ..

  10. Kama ujenzi umecosti dolla 14.2 billioni je muda gani unahitajika mpaka hii fedha irudi kama bei y’a chini ni elfu tano, na bado matengenezo?

  11. The team should be designed after the 1975 Championship team that only had one superstar and plenty of solid role players.

  12. Please! They just talking to get engagement. There is absolutely no way they getting him. Utah wants too much. I hate to say this but they have failed Steph

  13. Man at this point just sign free agents and keep our young players no matter what it is what it is we had a nice window but it’s hard even if we trade for players to get back it would be nice and I think Curry can do it with any team so let’s keep our future and see what happens maybe Steph wins MVP and we win another one win this team im just saying let’s keep podz, moody, and jk please and Steph mentoring them we might get a chip in the process 😼

  14. I want Brandin Ingram. 6-7 young with hops and a three point shot. Mark8nan is one white guy too many on the starting rotation. He is a 7 footer who plays like he’s 6-7
so why not try for Ingram.

  15. I am hoping that giving up a player like kuminga and picks that in return we also get clarkson for scoring off the bench.

  16. This guy David Locke don't know anything about basketball, trading a 21 years future superstar for a always injured lauri markkanen is dumb. Why so hype with this guy. He may be big, but who caress, if he don't play like a big, This is another Saric, with a bigger salary. This guy the most games that he had play in a season in the NBA is 66 games the only season that he was an all star, he is going to be 28 years this next season a big that is always injure is a gamble. But that is not the only downside. This guy may shoot the 3, but as a 7 footer, don't defend, don't rebound and don't pass the ball, a career 7.3 rebound per game as a 7 footer is really bad and 1.5 career assist. Kerr wasn't the guy that say to kuminga and Moody that to get more minutes, they need to rebound, pass the ball and defend? Lauri don't do any of that and as a 27 years is not like he is goin to be way better. Lauri is an overvalued player. The warriors didn't sign a 7 footer, that can shoot the 3 and is a better rebounder and way better passer and defender than lauri. Trading for Lauri is dumb. And is dumber to trade him for any of the young guys. Its like the warriors or Kerr don't trust any of the young guys that they draft. Who cares if Kuminga don't shoot the 3's, the best of all time Jordan was never a good 3 point shooter, kobe bryant was never a great 3 point shooter. Lebron is a career .348 3 point shooter and a career .736 FT shooter. Kevin Durant is a great shooter, but he rely a lot of his shots in jumpers. So who cares if kuminga is not e great 3 point shooter. And even then at 21 years he is not a bad 3 point shooter, he os a career .341 career 3 point shot, and he could be better if it was not because of kerr playing with Kuminga and Moody minutes and roles, that kill the confidence of any shooter, plus Kerr just want Kuminga to drive to the basket. But even after all this Kuminga and Moody are pretty good 3 point shooters and they could be better, plus they defend, something that Lauri doesn't do. Kuminga and Moody are going to have a better upside career than laur. Trading an injured lauri for any of the young guys would be a very dumb trade. Plus remember a 7 footer always injured at 27 years woth a big salary is a big gamble. Just look at Porzingis. A future trade for lauri, it could be a total desaster, plus what are you going to do with TJD, a great, defender, that can score around the basket and can rebound. Are you going to sit TJD? Who are going to defend in that roster? Who are lauri going to defend? Is he going to defend some of the elite bigs in the league? If a trade was for a guy like holmgren, a shooter, and a young big that can also rebound and block. That is the player that the warriors should be looking, tot Lauri.
