we go Paul George agrees on a 4year $212 million maximum contract with the Philadelphia 76ers sources tell ESPN George committed in a meeting with the Sixers officials and returned East to join Joel embiid and Tyrese Maxi in pursuit of an NBA title it’s it’s really crazy honestly like I didn’t think it was going to happen um you know for whatever reason the Clippers were like we’re not giving him a four-year Max that they I understand they didn’t want to pay him more than they paid kawhai again there’s some politics involved there and I think they you know they they thought maybe that Paul George was going to sign for that about threeyear $150 million contract like Kawhi Leonard signed for and Paul George was like nah if somebody’s going to offer me a Max I’m going to to go get it um and I remember saying several times that if Paul George is leaving La and he’s looking for a GM that will offer him a Max contract there’s only a couple teams that could offer it it came down to Philly and Orlando and I I I knew darl mury was going to offer it we basically knew it we knew Daryl muray was going to offer that contract to Paul George and right when free agency started and the rumors came out that Paul George is opting out of his player option and becoming an unrestricted free agent Daryl or it was like put it on the table tell them we’re in and he did it and Paul said you know what I’ll take the money not just take the money though really when you look at Paul George at at 34 years old declining athletically um but as a player like that gets on the other side of his prime you know he’s still brings a lot to the table he’s still really really good so for Paul George he was probably looking at it like you know I’m this is probably the last contract of my career I’m not a number one Superstar anymore I’m not a number one option Superstar anymore he’s not stupid he knows that and so he he probably felt like it’s a perfect scenario for him to get the most money and to be able to be the older version of himself and be a third option on a team with a very young All-Star and an MVP when he’s healthy so I really do think it wasn’t just the money you know I think Paul George really thinks he’s going to fit well in in Philly uh he’s going to he’s going to feed off a Tyrese Maxi and Joel and beat and get the ball when he wants to and he has a chance to win a championship I think those three things are the reason that Paul George uh signed the contract you know so it it all just kind of worked out perfectly really the situation worked out perfectly and and Paul George signed it man so the Sixers got their third option and no matter what you think about Paul George’s age 34 years old um does he show up big time in the playoffs he hasn’t recently uh you still have to look at it from a very simple point of view and that is how close were the Sixers to contending last season with a third option who was giving you absolutely nothing essentially you replaced Tobias Harris with the best catch and shoot three-point shooter in the entire NBA last season Paul George was about eight over eight attempts per game at 41.4% from three last season and actually that’s just ISO ball or that that was the totality of his percentage he was 45.4% on catch and shoot three-pointers last season what is the exact player you would want to put next to a a combo perimeter creating guard who’s a really good three-point shooter in Tyrese Maxi and a center who needs space you want to put next to them a catch and shoot three-point shooter who’s upwards of 45% on catch and shoot threes he still has some defensive ability left in his game he’s still has some ISO creation left in his game yeah it’s not Superstar Paul George but it’s still really really really good as your third scorer and if you just look at it as you replace Tobias Harris with a guy that Tobias Harris would aspire to be then I I don’t know how you can complain about this is it a massive overpay yeah of course it is of course it is but you had to do it and the Sixers are going to go try to chase the championship this upcoming season and next season and you know if the back end of that Paul George contract ends up being terrible that’s just the risk that you take in this business you can’t sit around and say I’m not we’re not going to put the money up there because we don’t want the last two years of this contract to be terrible you just can’t do it you got to go try to win again when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008 did they really give a [ __ ] that Ryan Howard sucked in 2011 and was being paid $25 million no cuz they went to back-to-back World Series and won one of them you know and Sixers fans deserve a damn parade down Broad Street and what Daryl mury did with this signing was give the 76ers the best opportunity to make that happen with the options that were available so yes massive overpay yes the last two years of the contract might be terrible you know Paul George could fall off a cliff skill-wise at 37 years old and you would owe him $50 million a year but again it’s the risk that you take to try to win a championship in the Joel em beat era and at the same time guys listen Joel embiid might be damn retired in three years you know what I’m saying we just watched him again this off season we just watched him again this season I don’t know how much more the guy’s knees can take you know so swing for defenses for two years man and and take some chances and and live with the results you know what I mean 950 people in here give give up two first round picks for Dorian FY Smith right now the 2028 unprotected Clippers pick is looking more and more valuable at the same time right so make some trades but at the end of the day try your best Daryl to not get rid of that 2028 unprotected first round Clippers pick because the Clippers are going to be underneath the basement by 2028 James Harden just resigned with the clippers for a deal cheaper than Drew holiday signed with the Celtics you know what I mean James Harden forces his way out of Philly cuz he wants a Max contract we’re right the whole time he doesn’t understand that he’s not worth a Max contract anymore he’s the only James Hardon was the only person alive that thought he was worth a Max contract at that time when he forced his way out of the Sixers and he goes and he signs with the clippers for two years what 20 20 million a year something like that 37 million for two years like 18 mil bro for James Harden you know what I mean so dude Harden’s on his way out kawai’s on his way out the Clippers are going to be very bad in 2028 uh so you know we’ll see what moves Daryl continues to make but I would I would definitely like for him to try his best to hold on to that 2028 unprotected Clippers pick Lori marinan I guess is still a thing that in a in a fantasy land you know could happen um but he’s has one year left on his contract and you would need to pay him and lry Markin is going to get a Max wherever he ends up going and you can’t pay all four of those guys unless Josh Harris would have been would be willing to go massively into the luxury tax like the Golden State Warriors did for a couple years and led the league in in in luxury tax and we’re almost paying a billion dollars out of pocket I don’t see Josh Harris doing that as much as that would stack as much as a Lowry mark and trade would stack the deck and would make the Sixers a a solidified Contender for the next couple of years I don’t think Josh Harris cares actually enough about winning in basketball to go that far into the luxury tax uh and have four Max contracts on your roster if you can even have I don’t even think you can have four Max contracts there’s probably a CBA something that would prevent that in the first place but um there you have it man there you have it Paul George sign with the Sixers uh this is on paper the best roster that has been put around Joel embiid in his eight-year career I mean it’s not even close you know it’s not even close there is a lot of Talent on this team and this is a legitimate Championship Contender now you know of course the Boston Celtics are are the PowerHouse and that’s the team you want to compete with but I think this move definitely put the Sixers ahead of the Bucks ahead of the Knicks [ __ ] you Knicks fans ahead of the Pacers um I think they’re right there with the Boston Celtics and I I think you know anything should there’s a lot of pressure now too right because this upcoming season man anything short of Eastern Conference Finals would be a fail uh after giving Paul George a Max contract so yeah Daryl did things guys he did things he did things I was sitting back like ju I just had this bad feeling that once again we were going to sit all off season and see darl muray make a bunch of little marginal moves a couple of Veteran minimums and and not much else and he came through for us man he came through for us and I got to give him credit this was the first time that darl Murray had pieces to work with this was the first time since he’s been the president of basketball operations that he’s had cap space and tradable first round picks and didn’t have a bunch of bad contracts on the roster remember he came in he had to get rid of the Al Horford contract then he came in had to trade Ben Simmons yeah he [ __ ] up with the James Harden thing uh but he flipped James Harden for some first round picks from the Clippers you got to give him credit for that uh his obsession with 90-year-old Houston Rockets players is still running rampid somehow uh so the PJ Tucker contract was terrible the Daniel house Jr got caught tampering and lost two second round picks so he did a lot of things that pissed me off he didn’t didn’t do everything perfect you know what I mean he’s but one thing Daryl Mor does is he swings for defenses and he’s going to swing and Miss sometimes and he first round with all due respect that is insane what you just said to me with all due respect of course uh DJ you know what I’m happy about God forbid if embiid gets hurt Paul George is now a second option with maxi and Maxi don’t have to carry the load anymore um yeah I mean no the Sixers still aren’t winning anything if Joel me gets hurt you know what I’m saying I would understand if if you’re love Kelly UB man youall already know how I feel about Kelly UB the athletic Wing that the Sixers haven’t had since Andre Iguodala and I’m yeah he was a main priority what we saw him bring to the table last year we knew right when the offseason hit that that the Sixers should definitely be trying to resign Kelly UB I love it I love the fact that he signed here uh I thought he was going to maybe get offered more money from somewhere else we’ll have to you know maybe some rumors will come out if he did get offer more money from somewhere else but I was also saying like it’s not just about the money for a guy like Kelly UB because again when he played for the Hornets it exposed his game you know if he goes to a if he takes more money to go to a terrible team it exposes his game then he’s just a 30% shot chucker and looks like he doesn’t really have any value and that’s why he ended up almost out of the league so he maybe could have taken more money to play on a a worse team uh and that could have an impact on like the longevity of your career so I think part of part of the reason that he comes back to Philly is because he likes his role he knows it fits him well he knows his job here and and what to do and it’s it just seems like a perfect fit and he has a chance to try to go deep into the playoffs to try to win a championship so check it out uh the plotnik project
