[Music] Junior we shouldn’t be slowing it down for I don’t know why it is that Nick is the only one that calls our guy Justin Turpin big papa it sounds a little weird nickname I get it but I don’t know it’s just a little weird to hear can’t say it ironically no but to hear you say it like you’re the one that Nails it consistently with T every time every time every time I know and it’s I know you do but it’s a little big papa since he started working I mean yeah he told me it was nickname so I just kind of it was when you tell people your nickname it’s really not a nickname came up in conversation went out of my way one of the AL gonin round taes like you had out in Indianapolis with the rest of your uh jump shot shooting friends oh yeah do they do the you know does that group does the clns people call you big papa some of them it’s more shortened to just pap oh I got it oh really oh yeah well I mean you’re the only one only one screams big papa on the hallway the guy goes on the cruises and who knows what’s going on the no no you kidding me again you know uh Jose Turpin might be down in Brazil or something like that you know what I mean all of a sudden uh big papa from Brazil is 20 years from now kicking people in the head knocking them out in the UFC very possible and then it’s like oh my dad came out of nowhere and it’s you I mean wild now we give our guy turp a bunch of hell because well we can and because we love to hey uh Wick selling level of shock for you like you’re around the team you’re around all the writers you’re around any B it feels like the the announcement came out of nowhere but clearly Wick has been thinking about this yeah that’s not a decision that’s just made overnight but it was a shock to everybody I even saw a podcast clip of Jason Tatum saying he had no clue it was coming so they did a really good job of keeping that Under Wraps because every time Wick rosc was asked about it he the answer was always the same it’s not for sale and he shown no indication that he was going to sell the team then turn around and that just broke up all the news of day the first full day of free agency and it’s only fitting that Derek white finally gets the contract he deserves gets the recognition he deserves and it’s overshadowed by Wick Rose selling the team and you know what’s crazy is he would have got bumped anyway because they were announcing Tatum later in the day to begin with right so they knew that uh okay like d white knew must been like all right babe here’s my two hours because they’re going to announce Tatum a little bit later on I’m kind of surprised of how quick that came together I think everyone knew the Derek white extension was going to happen but I thought it’d be take a little bit longer to iron out the terms of whatever it may be because obviously he had to take a little bit of a pay cut to come back but the fact that Brad Stevens accomplished everything that was the main things of his checklist in the first 23 hours of free agency and then brings back Xavier Tillman less than two days into free agency that’s pretty damn good well and the thing about Stevens is at least turp it seems like he doesn’t waste time like you know if he’s lying in waight to make a trade that’s one thing but when it comes to his people what he can control he kind of gets the business pretty quickly yeah no no waste of time whatsoever and obviously like the Tatum one that was easy I think that was the number one thing they had to accomplish but that contract was done it was just a matter of hey let’s find some time to get together and sign this paper cuz it’s it’s all done but you’re right he doesn’t waste time and he’s a man of words last week at his post draft uh post-draft press conference he said that this team deserves to run it back and they’ve earned that and that there’s not going to be any major changes oh and they and they almost have to and I don’t know about you but I think the Tatum news coming out after the hey Wick and family are going to sell their peace was the moment for Celtic fans right I think it was something that people shouldn’t have been worried about but naturally you’re talking about a $315 million contract and your majority owner just put the team up for sale natur you’re going to be like oh is this going to affect the Tatum deal in any way so I think it was a breath of fresh air actually seeing that go through and it shouldn’t have been a problem but I think naturally people were worried about it yeah I uh I would have been too and I think they had to make sure that all the family business was handled and and kind of taken care of I know forier and I were talking about it a little bit yesterday I I still have to think the leader in the clubhouse is Steve puka access to Capital but understands the business inside now and I do I do think that Wick rck is trying to leave this organization in the best possible way signing all the players but also I I if Wick controls it and Pags is in the neighborhood on the offer I hope it goes to him because it causes the least amount of stress in the organization are you co-signing on that or do you think there are others out there who have been waiting for a moment like this and are going to pounce on those shares that the gcks own I think there are other people out there cuz Wick gck has even said it in the past where he’s had offers and it’s always been kind of turned down obviously that changes now but you have to think pegs is the leader in the clubhous this guy was part of the ownership group that bought the team in ‘ o02 and he’s been to won two two NBA Finals been to nine Conference Finals four trips to the NBA finals it’s not like he doesn’t have a connection with them and he’s present like the guy is always at the games this he cares about the team so I would naturally think that he is the leader of the clubhouse but then again there bigger fish out there and there are guys that are going to be willing to spend and it’s going to be a fierce bidding no matter what happens and see that’s where I wonder if there could be going out the door I don’t want to say blood on Wick’s hands because that’s too strong but it would be oh you’re going to catch some going out the door because you didn’t pick the guy we know you took the guy who came in and bid the most money which is a part of the reason why the guy is selling it like I think it would be almost like two perfect or two it would be me over romanticizing the oh my God could this guy really have come in one two championships gone to a bunch of finals got all the players set up got the roster set up and then turned it over to somebody that we know and almost feels like the scenario would be too perfect for that to happen right and Wick Rock has put this team in the best position to succeed I mean look on his way out he’s locking up everybody like the foreseeable future at least the next two seasons you have your whole top five where retained and those guys were all top seven in All-Star voting the guys have all been Allstars we know how talented this team was they were a historically good team so Wick Rock’s one last kind of Duty to the team is to put the franchise in good hands in capable hands and somebody that will continue the legacy of being willing to invest in good teams and obviously that’s easier said than done obviously like when you’re talking about the contracts you mentioned it the other day it’s going to look what 500 million to keep keep top of this team together hang on I think I got uh I think I got it all written down right here yeah the uh the roster at some point will cost with tax $470 million right and the new owner whoever it may be is going to be in a tough situation because when you look at the CBA these repeater offenses when you keep going over the second apron they’re Steep and they only get worse so the new owner and it’s no fault of Wick I mean this is the best decision he can make you got to get out why it’s profitable while the getting’s good get out now sell the team it makes sense but whoever comes in is going to be forced to make a move they’re going to be forced to D dump off one of the top five or six obviously Al Horford we’ll see what if he sticks around after because we don’t know how much longer he’s got but whoever it is is going to be in a tough situation because they’re going to have to make a move they’re not going to have a choice so it’s going to be difficult in that sense are you thinking Dynasty I’m not because of the tax even when Wick was there now you throw in a new owner I can’t think any further ahead than next year Dynasty talk is always just difficult that’s why it’s so special right winning is so difficult in any sport and I think look at the Celtics in 2008 I’m sure when they won people were talking Dynasty they get back fell short so it’s so hard to maintain that that’s why it’s so special so I think Dynasty talk on any level is premature until it’s actually happening especially when you consider the East is getting better the league itself is getting better the new CBA is going to kind of level out the playing field it’s tough to get ahead of yourself and look that way but I would say the Celtics have the pieces to do so I think they’re obviously for a reason the favorites to repeat next year they have these guys and I think people are going to be willing to take pay cuts to stay here Derek white already did it Xavier Tilman signing for the minimum I think that guy oh that’s your guy gu that’s your guys make out to be like he’s some like Allstar or whatever but you have that guy that you can rely on in the back of your rotation who’s proven look at game three in Dallas for example he’s proven that he can come in and make an impact and ultimately win you games and that’s exactly what you need for Championship contending teams you need guys that can contribute up and down the roster and that’s what the Celtics have and it’s guys like Tilman that can do that yeah and Brad Stevens right now has the ability to build a roster one through 10 right because to your point it’s going to get to the point of you either have to sacrifice someone big to be able to kind of rebuild around the one maybe superstar that is left if you move on from one which is scary to even think about or discuss but something’s going to have to give here and guys like Tillman who are willing to come here for a buck 295 ultimately become big value because I don’t know where you’re at on Sam Hower like for and I go back and forth I think Al’s got one more year and then he’s going to retire right I know that Brad Stevens said hey he wants to extend Hower I think you’re extending Hower to ultimately move him like where the mark it wouldn’t be 18 million a year don’t get me wrong but the Marcus Smart contract became very tradable right I think in resigning that guy he’s going to be another one of those so I am I right or wrong i’ tell you’re right and if he wants to stay it’s going to be on a pay cut cuz these three and D wings are so valuable and you can and now there a lot like wide receivers coming in to the league there’s a bunch of them now you can find one you like and be like this guy needs 20 games he needs 40 games he’s ready to go right now like shyan maybe look at a guy like Grant Williams who gets paid right there’s guys that just get money through in the NBA money is just ridiculous oh my God thrown around but you’re talking about a a team against the salary cap like the Boston Celtics it’s tough to retain a guy like Hower and you obviously going to value your top six more than Hower unfortunately which is and he’s a starter on other teams in the NBA there’s no doubt about it when he’s got that like Alex and I know they’re not but it’s like an Alex Caruso feel to him you can put him on a team who got a couple of dominant scorers and you know he’s going to be able to blend in and at least hold his own he won’t be great but he won’t let you down and just back to Tillman thing when you’re looking at guys like Tillman like Nish K who they brought back developing those guys on team-friendly deals is just so important especially for a team that’s over the second apron that’s WHYY getting a guy like shyan who has played in big games obviously was a fifth year senior one of the older players in the draft and same thing for Anton Watson they’re older guys that can contribute right away that don’t necessarily need as much time to develop just in case because you’re in the middle of your Championship window so you want guys that if you need them you can turn to and under the new CBA it’s just so important to have these guys that you can develop on cheap contracts make them the next successful development story Sam Hower is one of them and I love taking guys and I love taking guys out of the Big East too shyan played in the Big East I know he’s in South Dakota state but you know that to me is that’s one of the leagues that really get you ready for the physicality of the NBA a lot of a lot of the coaches in the Big East that’s a selling point it’s the hey it’s not the old NBA where Bill L beer was Clos lining people but the the Big East physically gets you ready for the next level right and one of the questions surrounding shyan is the athleticism or the defense and I talked to his head coach Greg mcder article up on we.com and he doesn’t obviously every head coach is going to back player that’s just doing the right thing mcder is not a guy who engages in hyperbolous activity no he really seems like this is not a concern that this guy can play defense he can match the physicality and isn’t he just built for Missoula ball like he’s great if play defense obviously that’s a key part that’s one of the biggest reasons they were so successful last year because of their defense but he’s a great rebounder shoots the lights out from three and can supposedly defend that’s a pretty good fit for the Celtics I’m uh I’m with you I like that I mean I love what they’ve done they’re bringing everybody back we know that it’s going to be at least January 1 before por zinc fine I’ll see in 2025 you know Chris doops well you go go do what you got to do just be ready when you come back hey since we have our guy Justin Turpin of we.com it covers the NBA and the Celtics for us how about this wge an hour ago the Lakers are hiring Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks as top assistants on JJ reck’s staff you look at it at a snapshot and be like oh that’s a good thing for JJ reick that’s also a bad thing for JJ reck in my opinion yeah that whole hire is just interesting right cuz it’s just Polar Opposites from what they did with Darin ham like darham was a respected assistant coach one of the most respect in the league you give him a head coaching job it didn’t really work out now you’re bringing a guy with JJ reck who obviously everyone’s going to points to LeBron James has the relationship with LeBron has the podcast with LeBron but he doesn’t have any coaching experience and that’s a really tough Market to succeed in as a coach especially with with a guy like LeBron on there it’s like you have so much attention on you with the Lakers so I look it as a good thing that they’re bringing these guys in because you want to load up that staff you want to bring experienced coaches in and those guys have obviously a ton of experience and winning games have been around the league forever and you look at Joe moula like when he took over granted much different circumstances he took over a depleted staff and I haven’t really dove into the Lakers staff to see who’s staying and who’s going but I’m assuming with ham gone there are some that have left so he’s kind of walking in and has the ability to build his own staff but the way I look at it is like Joe moula had guys like Sam Cassell last year guys like Charles Lee and those they were just such valuable resources and I think the more you can get more experienced head coaches or former head coaches in with JJ reck the better oh the hell with it just hire freaking Nate McMillan outright like seriously that guy is worthy of getting another crack to be a a head coach in my opinion you know Scott Brooks is one of those old kind of prickly guys who’ve been around forever you know the one who won’t be afraid to maybe say something to you know one of the superstars if they’re riding the ambulance that day or something like that it’s just always interesting to me that well you know we’re going to hire this guy we’re going to give him a four-year deal in 6 million a year and well we’re going to put people better qualified than him underneath of him it’s like wait a minute what are you doing here you know just go sell one of those guys to LeBron if you can it is good to see fresh blood though because I feel like all the coaches just get reused like once you get fired you’re just going to find another spot it’s like once you’re a head coach with well obviously Charles Le’s another one and JJ reic but for like look a guy like bicker staff like gets fired by Cleveland go oh and then gets of course I I don’t think he deserves to be fired no God no they went to the second round they got better but you know it’s all about the the Superstar really it’s more about the GM and the owners right is what it is that those guys at the top are afraid to look at their Superstar and say like what Pat Riley did with LeBron I referenced it earlier he was like no I’m not firing spola spola is going to be around longer than you are so I’m keeping him but there are very few people who want to like walk down that road and uh and do that uh Olympics is it going to be is the basketball going to be worth watching in the Olympics for us locally I would say it is just because you’re going to have some Celtics in there but feel like United States is going to run through they’re going to blow is there who who do you think is there anybody uh worldwide that you think would be maybe like the best challenge to the US like I know Canada’s Got a great back and Kelly o yeah right they got a bunch of nbaers yeah they have a backt in Kelly oin and then uh I think that’s pretty much it in terms of The Bigs or whatever uh you know I’m trying to think of uh like uh Croatia or lvia no I don’t have to worry about them or anything like that they to qualify I know that’s right there’s qualifying going on right now in fact I think DeAndre Aton is playing for the Bahamas against Poland bartin burner Billy uh Poland’s best basketball player I mean good grief Eric patski what is that oh the big the big dude from Gaga oh the um hold on I can’t remember his name he can’t either 28 years old but I know I know who you’re talking about though but yeah like turp and I were getting loaded up and I was like oh the said DeAndre aen just dunked on somebody for the Bahamas and even even big big papa or whatever the hell you call him over here he was like Bahamas exactly I didn’t know they had their own team no I didn’t well and of course there’s a hurricane ripping through that part of the world as well wiped out Jamaica and uh I guess I was going to the Cayman Islands so you know Billy Lanny hiding all of his money in the Cayman his bank could get floating away by the time it’s all said and done Kowski Kowski that is fair that’s right onand 7 foot one a lumberjack I was just going to say that is right on brand does he have a giant beard or something like that absolutely does oh man well tur thanks for popping in uh buddy and luckily intern Jacob was able to uh stop interacting in the twitch chat long enough to go down there and help you out so you can slide down here so are you are you on this weekend uh no no oh wow so wait so you actually get some downtime after having worked here and then covering the Celtics tonight and then coming back in the next day and all that some time do a ton of fishing maybe some golfing fishing what are you fishing for love fishing I’m out fishing all the time you’re fishing For Love or no what oh you’re going bass fishing okay I know a bee in front of it there you go it’s true ass everywhere ass everywhere no but uh I didn’t know if you were like you know going 20 miles out in the ocean and you know fishing for something bigger yeah easier hold on I I I know this deal you know fresh water fishing that’s what I grew up on too but you’re more of the you have your little cooler of stuff or whatever and you have your lawn chair extra wide and then all that you need to just sit beside the cek and just fish all day oh I got a little fishing boat that I bring out so it fits right in the bed of my truck I go out with my I swear I swear off air asked herp how he lost his phone in the water oh I’m sure funny that before game seven last year against the Heat okay the night before game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals I was out with my buddy phone fell right in the water I had one of those AT&T like Android like burner phones that couldn’t even take pictures the night before game s like this historic game so you had to go to your real non- burner phone then yes yes I was say so then you had to do that to where people could then track you down now yeah ah the ways of turp right ohy I’m never going to hear the end of this of the uh trist that I had on a boat meanwhile this guy’s floating in a dinghy losing his phone before game s lost two phones Lake oh my God more than i’ like to admit don’t you wear you go out there pantsless you got no pockets no I do they fall out well one time I fell at the dock and all right so now we’re getting into fat assery okay that’s faires time it was in like the like the cup holder the chair and I elbowed it no you elbowed it and knocked it out yes that was both of them are totally my fault no one to blame but yeah so is this a like is this kind of like a real is this like a solid boat or you like blow this thing up no this is like a solid boat it’s in the back of your pickup truck but it’s not a canoe no no no it’s like I’ll put up a picture on Twitch but yeah it fits right in there there’s it’s it’s awesome the question is do you fit right in there I do yes I put the lwn chairs on there like you said oh my God all right then we’re gonna have to I’m GNA have to see a photo of this this sounds like a real out there yesterday this sounds like a real Contraption this sounds more like somebody who takes that like uh somebody who gets a pallet and then they get the water bottles they Slide the wood through you know the big plastic water bottles and they’re floating on that and you’re just like floating down the river fishing away on this thing got a motor and everything it’s it’s great oh my God all right then turps fishing setup coming to Twitch before we were out of here today it’s need a tur fishing podcast I thought oh my God Ken L are you kidding me you’re you know you’re doing it for lure I don’t want to put more on your plate turp but I’m just saying you know I think we can get Andy Hart to do it right he’s got a boat I don’t know if he fishes yeah but I don’t know if he fishes though might and you know know yeah I think fishes the cooler for more Miller Light it’s true on
