Raptors picked up Bruce Brown’s option I believe on Friday for the $23 million he has owed this coming season seemingly with the intent to trade him this summer or at the deadline it’s a little bit murky when you look at the sort of the the way the roster is set up it seems like he has to be traded this summer we’ve talked about the glut of shooting guards and shooting guards Ed players on this team earlier this week you can go listen to the episode on Tuesday with S Bear heny all about that it’s a fun one uh but it paints a pretty Grim picture of what the Raptor roster balance is and even if you don’t want the Raptors to go and win games like having a sensible roster where guys have you know Avenues to minutes and it’s not nine guys fighting for two spots in the rotation like you might want a little bit more balance and Bruce Brown figures to be the best way the Raptors can go and procure that balance this summer yet we are still waiting for any kind of news on Bruce Brown we will talk about however today the latest rumor uh is that the word for it subterfuge rumor uh Scuttle butt I I don’t know whatever word we’re using for it there’s a little bit out of our pal Anthony Erwin who former Lockton Lakers host of course over at Lakers daily uh we will get into the report that the Lakers have called around about Bruce Brown we will also get into why it’s very hard to make a Raptor’s Bruce Brown make sense Thanks new CBA we’ll have that coming up but off the top I just want to sort of refresh reset where we’re at with the Bruce Brown situation and I do think that with every day that passes the decision to pick up Bruce Brown options look looks more and more like a mistake by the Toronto Raptors front office we’ve talked about this a little bit this week I think the idea of oh like we got to keep Bruce Brown so we can trade him for something to kind of Salvage the Pascal seum trade if that’s what they’re in fact thinking I think that’s flawed thinking I think that’s like sunk cost fallacy stuff you just got to move on and you can’t put the toothpaste back in that tube that trade was already bungled you can’t un bungle it no matter what you get for Bruce brown maybe there’s a first round pick out there for him somewhere maybe there’s an interesting young player or a guy who comes in and balances your roster a bit but ultimately you’re not saving the Pascal SE yakum trade and it does feel with every day that goes by with the free agent Market uh now pretty much you know completely cleared out except except for like Caleb Martin and tus Jones who uh Martin we talked about yesterday could be a fit I’m a little bit queasy about paying him a lot of money um not that the Raptors can go pay him a lot of money it’s also worth noting the Raptors have 15 roster spots filled and so signing anyone right now is like not legal unless they can find a way to finlet I think you can come to the camp with more players than uh roster spots obviously but uh they have 15 guaranteed roster spots right now and so uh at least guant contracts so there’s you know only so much wiggle room you really have it feels like a Bruce brown one for one type trade is probably the best way to go about things here um but I’m starting to really sort of wonder if we’re going to see anything at all look you could have just let him walk and use your 20 plus million in space to net you something more valuable to your roster right now than Bruce Brown figures to be going into the season or what Bruce Brown figures to return to you in trade we’ll get into look there’s still could be trades we’ll talk about the sort of Log Jam of Trades that feels like it’s you know at some point going to burst here maybe tied to Larry marinan we’ll get to that in a sec but overall I think it it’s become pretty clear that the Raptors very easily could have you know overpaid a little bit for one of these guys in the free agent Market maybe a Naji Marshall someone like that if they just had the cap space to do it none of these role player guys are earning massive deals none of them are even earning the full midlevel if you could have just gone and offered 15 million bucks a year or 12 team to you know Naji Marshall or something like that you probably could have him on your team and maybe you don’t want to pay that much money to Naji Marshall I understand as well the idea that taking money on an exchange for Bruce whether via salary cap addition uh after you let him go and you use your cap space to sign someone for a couple of years maybe three or four years um or the idea of trading Bruce Brown for someone with term is maybe not the most palatable thing in the world to some people I get that look you don’t want to go and turn this Bruce Brown thing into another headache you have to deal with on your salary cap sheet as your team is about to get very expensive it’s more expensive this summer with Emanuel quickley already making his $35 million a year or I guess it’ll be 30 million in his first season of this new deal and then Scotty Barnes of course his max extension is going to kick in next summer and this team is going to be pretty much locked in with trades as their main sort of vehicle for improving and adjusting the roster going forward um this was the last summer to go add someone via free agency and I do think that if you had just gone and signed one of those wings um or or you know a big whatever I I I think you probably would be feeling a little bit better about the state of the roster than you currently are again with oops all shooting guards being the team Motif at the moment um you know it’s not great like it’s and this can change right like it’s not great right now but it can change and I do think there is a world in which uh we see a Lowry market and trade kind of open up the floodgates for further moves right it does seem like the Lowry markeet and thing is holding up the market it feels like the trades are the next thing to come now that the free agent Market is basically done with and you’re just kind of waiting for that first Domino to fall if the Sacramento Kings get Larry Markin in that takes them out of the running for a Caleb Martin or out of the running for a Brandon Ingram trade if they don’t then maybe they make a Brandon Ingram trade or go sign a Caleb Martin if there’s no place for Caleb Martin maybe he ends up looking around and the Raptors recircle on that you know or some other team right it’s a lot of dominoes to fall from that Larry Markin and thing because I do think it in impacts a lot of different teams plans and might Shake different guys loose and make other teams have to go and think about guys they got to move and maybe a Bruce Brown becomes palatable because of you know the the fit needs or whatever um you know that’s still very possible that said it does not seem like it’s going to a be easy to find a Bruce Brown trade just because the salary cap environment is a tricky and treacherous one to navigate now that we’re in the new era with the new CBA fully implemented and kicked in that’s going to make things challenging and just the the value proposition for a team out there trading for Bruce Brown like it’s got to make sense for them too and there are a lot of teams where you can kind of look and say oh there’s a player who might make sense for the Raptors there but the money doesn’t work the fit doesn’t work the roster balance doesn’t work for that team and I think that’s kind of the conundrum we’re looking at ourselves with right now and you know there’s not like a perfect solution to this right now not that we can see maybe they pull something out of a hat and find something that really really works for this roster gets that desired return from Bruce Brown that’s still on the table here but again as every day goes by without that happening it looks more and more like a mistake that the Raptors did not just cut bait move on say hey you know what we couldn’t turn him into something that’s fine we can weaponize this cap space in some other way whether it’s even taking on a bad contract from somebody else and getting a pick attached like there are creative ways to do this and holding on to the last minute to get as much value for Bruce Brown as possible while I still think it’s possible they get you know like even a first round pick by the deadline um I just think the return is just not going to be super substantial enough to make it warranted to have picked up the option when there were other options for team building and avenues he could have taken had they just declined him and moved on um so yeah it’s uh that’s the situation right now it’s not wonderful and it could change again again very much subject to change maybe something happens here the trades do feel like they are kind of getting ready to happen and that could very much change how we view this Raptor’s offseason this Raptor’s roster the handling of the Bruce Brown thing but right now every day that goes by it’s a little bit more frustrating that they didn’t just say you know what we’re gonna move on here and move to a new era of figuring stuff out they’ve not quite you know the whole this summer was supposed to be the Turn the Page summer all right all the mistakes are behind us we’ve got a refreshed sort of retooled roster youth excitement a bunch of second round picks who everyone’s very excited about uh you know all of that seemed to be on the the table for this summer and it does seem like the Turning of the page has been delayed just a little bit by this Bruce Brown thing we’ll see maybe by the next time we talk Bruce Brown on another team and I get to eat a big plate of crow that would be very fun I want to eat crow that sounds delicious all right come back on the other side we’ll get into the Lakers who could be a Bruce Brown team they’re also a team that you know is kind of dumb and makes dumb decisions all the time so maybe they’re a Bruce Brown team that could be taken advantage of and could be had in a trade as well problem is uh trades are hard especially when you’re as expensive as the Lakers are we will get into that and the fun of the new CBA W coming up in just one sec Today’s Show is brought to you by friends over at game time the single best place to buy tickets for your favorite it’s a hot one it’s really hot in my office I apologize if I’m just dripping sweat on camera maybe some of you like that you little freaks either way uh I appreciate you putting up with the sweat podcast okay um getting into the Lakers could they be a team for Bruce Brown there some reporting came out yesterday from Anthony Irwin of Lakers daily great Lakers Insider former locked on Lakers host former guest of this podcast Anthony Irwin who reported that Bruce Brown is one of the guys the Lakers have checked in on uh alongside Kyle kousma imagine they just didn’t trade Kyle kozma I love the Lakers they’re so bad at their job uh Jeremy Grant uh Dorian Vinnie Smith cam Johnson all of those guys sort of in the mix for the Lakers as they look for upgrades of course the whole thing this week week was O is LeBron going to opt out and restructure for much less money so they can open up the mid-level exception and go sign yonas Valen chunis uh that did not happen we know yesterday LeBron signed the uh almost max deal for two years with a player option on year two to stick around with the Lakers and uh is not going to take that pay cut to allow for things to happen that said there is something in Lebron’s contract that we’ve yet to kind of see we won’t see until the moratorium ends on July the 6th the deals can actually be signed but with the way the LeBron contract is structured or could be structured it’s kind of important it basically all of the Lakers hopes of making any kind of trade hinge on this tiny little detail there’s some reporting around the deal that the first year of his new two-year deal with the Lakers could come in slightly below the max that is important because him being like a million dollars below the max or at the full Max could literally be the difference between the Lakers being in the first apron or the second apron the first apron of the luxury tax uh not a great place to be there’s lots of punitive restrictions on things you can do to make trades and things like that we’ll get into what some of those are um but the second apron is just like way more restrictive makes it borderline impossible to add players unless you’re using second round picks to add to your team it’s a really difficult thing to navigate it’s why we’ve seen a lot of teams Dodge it even though it actively hurts their teams the nuggets with kcp the Clippers with Paul George ha the Clippers haa um anyway with the Lakers the LeBron thing if he comes in slightly under the max which it just makes sense if they’re trying to add to this team they are not going to be able to do much if they’re in the second apron first apron there’s a little bit more wiggle room to work with but again not a ton the restrictions that are tied to being in the first apron um you know there’s there there’s a tough sort of list of restrictions you got to deal with again they get worse in the second apron but in the first you have the you can’t take more salary back in trade than you send out which is a real problem in Bruce Brown trades we’ll get to that coming up in a second you also don’t have the non- tax May non- taxpayer midlevel and you can’t acquire players via sign in trade so uh that might rule like a Gary Trent Jr signing trade if that’s a guy they wanted to go pursue as well uh you know they just they’re not going to have a ton of flexibility here the trades are going to be a pretty tight needle to thread they might be able to do that with the Raptors but it’s going to be pretty challenging uh again they cannot take back more money in trade than they’re sending it that is a really really big deal we’ll get into why that is in a couple of minutes here there’s also the sort of you know the like the concept of like what do the Lakers even have to trade that might interest the Raptors here in a Bruce Brown deal it’s not going to be sexy most likely they have a couple of far-off future first rounders 2029 and 2031 those could be juicy the Lakers don’t figure to be all that good by then but they’re also the Lakers and they sign free agents all the time and they sort of reset their timeline routinely and so I don’t think you can Bank on those being great picks necessarily they are still the Lakers they have a lot of like quote unquote tradable contracts just not like super attractive ones I would argue Jared Vanderbilt they have D’Angelo Russell for one more year Gabe Vincent ruy haimura uh who I think is probably the most attractive to the Raptors here they’ve got a lot of those contracts but how you fit those contracts together you know there’s Jaylen Hood chafino in there as well there’s Christian Wood sort of smaller numbers I think hood chafino is at about 3.8 million for next year and uh Christian was it about three million so like you know you gotta do the puzzle pieces add a bunch of contracts together hopefully it’s not too many contracts to then make it challenging for the Raptors who again have a full roster right now and a one for one trade is just a whole lot easier to work with it’s a challenging thing to sort out bottom line I don’t want to get too bogged down in the minutia of uh you know the the salary cap in general the new salary cap sucks and makes these things less fun and less easy to pull off it’s a real death nail to fake trade Wizards like myself of course um and so yeah that’s what you’re looking at that the Lakers they also I mean what do the Lakers need they need shooting they need maybe a little bit more size on the wing like Wing defense like they they need things that I’m not sure Bruce Brown really even provides and so it feels like a bit of a strange fit but all that said like the Lakers are historically not the best run team they make silly decisions all the time I think they once traded a zubot for Mike muscala great call awesome good stuff they of course made the Russell Westbrook trade and dismantled a championship winning team uh because of like star power or something that was really bad they have made some good moves here and there as well but for the most part this is I think a front office you can maybe take advantage of a little bit and sort of get Surplus value back um that said Anthony Irwin noted in his right up over it uh Lakers daily that you know the sort of Rob pinka MSU Jeri staring contest over the years we recall you know the ton Horton Tucker Kyle Lowry 2021 trade deadline thing all of that you know they’ usually do not end up making deals between these two front offices and you know I think Messi jiri probably is trying to go and win those negotiations against Rob pinka a guy who is someone who has lost lots of negotiations over the year I can’t blame Messi for driving a hard bargain when it comes to Lakers conversations um but yeah basically that’s the deal with the Lakers they have maybe some room to make trades maybe room where they can kind of uh you know take back again the sort of the whole money thing is just so challenging for them to work with they can’t take back more salary and trade than they trade out so it has to be that the Raptors are taking back more money here for it to be viable that can happen we’ll get into some of the constructions that could work here but it is a challenging thing to sort out um let’s come back on the other side we’ll get into some potential fits what rat what Lakers guys could fit um and what kind of Trades could go down here had a little DM chat with Harrison Fagan from SP Nation who covers the Lakers as well as anybody we’ll talk a little about uh you know whether there’s something there with you know ruach chimura or D’Angelo Russell or or whatever we’ll get into the fits and the possible trades and uh again don’t get too excited we’ll do that Leafs and locked on Blue Jays while we’re at it the Leafs made some offseason moves uh you know I would say poising to say the least Mike and Dave do a great job over there and then lock down Blue Jays covering This Disaster of a blue jay season go check them out as well all right let’s uh get to the possible guys who the Raptors could go and attain in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers I think number one ruy haimura is the guy who comes to mind right the Raptors need a couple things they need size they need Wing play they need some backup big play behind yaka purle for a little bit of insulation right the Lakers don’t have a ton of guys who could be thrown into these trades who check those boxes ruy haimura is the one guy who I think you could talk me into really helping the Raptors otherwise you’re talking about picks being attached to guys who are not terribly helpful to the Raptor’s cause maybe D’Angelo Russell we’ll talk about that in a second as well but it’s you know in most of these cases you’re taking on big salaries or reasonably sized salaries that are going to make the books more complicated with multiple years of of term left for guys who aren’t really going to help the team all that much you know again I think you look at like a cam Johnson that’s a guy who fits way better and helps a lot better than a lot of these guys in the Lakers but again Beggars can’t be choosers the Raptors are in a situation where they may just have to settle for the Bruce Brown deal that presents itself if they want to settle at all which I know is not a thing they do unless it’s that they’re trading past gaka then they’ll settle Away Great Stuff um so ruy I think would be all right he’s not my cup of tea as a player and I do think he’s actually quite important to the Lakers talking with Harrison Fagan from uh SP Nation you know this this morning kind of swapping some DMS he did think he does think that maybe um they’re more amenable to moving ruy haimer than they might have been a year ago they’re maybe a little bit less attached to him and I think that’s like Fair he’s not amazing he’s also maybe their most attractive player to trade to go and get an upgrade maybe it’s Jeremy Grant uh cam Johnson and of course Bruce Brown we’re talking about here last season for ruy 13.6 points a game 4ish boards 1.2 assists a career 1.3 assist per game guy um to to almost one turnover a game that’s one of the red flags for me he’s again he’s like 68 69 he in theory gives you size in some Wing defense I don’t think he’s like a spectacular Wing Defender but he’s not bad he’s like sort of middle of the road argue probably and the three-point shooting last year if you just look at last year you go hey the Raptors could use that he shot 42% from three on just about three and a half attempts per game last year that’s not nothing but I don’t know what kind of shooter ruy haimura is if you go through his career it’s total whacka you have the 42% last year before that 32% the year prior the year before that 45% okay and then the two seasons prior to that with Washington 33% and 29% so I have no idea man I have no idea if ruy haimura can actually shoot and again I think the Lakers actually need him I know Harrison mentioned they might be more amendable to moving him but like if they move ruy haimura for Bruce Brown they all of a sudden become like Raptors West where it’s all shooting guards and all guys who are shooting guard sized on the roster it it’s it’s kind of hilarious like you’ll have jayen Hood chafino shooting guard D’Angelo Russell point guard who’s actually kind of a shooting guard Gabe Vincent point guard who’s actually kind of a shooting guard um obviously you’ve got Austin Reeves shooting guard you just have Max Christie shooting guard like they’re just it would be I think a pretty similar imbalance that the Raptors are dealing with and the Lakers notably are playing for a lot more than the Raptors are and I don’t know if they can go in with the roster imbalance you know that that would present that said again the Lakers are dumb and make dumb decisions all the time so maybe there’s something there with ruy hachimura he would have to be added with other salaries we can get into those um there’s the guards there’s Gabe Vincent and D’Angelo Russell Gabe Vincent makes about 11 million bucks a year missed most of last season hard to really say I know a lot of raptors fans looked at him as like oh he could be the Fred Van vet replacement thankfully that was not the case and the Raptors avoided that one guys who have post Miami Heat non pixie dust I’m always a little bit wary of it’s my Caleb Martin reservation as well um so but he’s there he’s an option to S sort of throw into match salaries here then there’s D’Angelo Russell who backup point guard I think it would actually be kind of all right to not force Davon Mitchell or Jamal shed to be the backup point guard for this team allow them you know allow Mitchell to play where he should be shooting guard well the debate is over he’s a shooting guard and allow Jamal shed to kind of take his own time and not be forced into like a heavy rle as a 45th overall pick as a rookie that seems ideal to me to not force that upon him very quickly um and so D’Angelo Russell for one year he gives you some scoring pop off the bench he is absolutely not my cup of tea of player but in second units where you just want a little bit of extra creation and passing and three-point shooting you could sell me on D’Angelo Russell as a one-year backup point guard could you sell D’Angelo Russell on being a backup point guard that’s probably a more open conversation do you want that kind of sort of discontent within your locker room if in fact there would be discontent I’m not here to speak for D’Angelo Russell you’d have to figure that out and you know C’s amenable to being a backup but that’s an option and maybe the most likely one if there is going to be a trade here is Russell being that big salary coming back there’s the Jared Vanderbilt thing he’s got to be in a lot of these constructions as the second salary and I just like don’t know if the Raptors should be in the business of adding a tweener big man who can’t shoot who has two more years plus a player option at uh like 14 million bucks I think in the last year um I think I’d rather just take my chances with Jonathan mobo who the rapor signed today to a threee six .1 million deal with the second round exception very exciting having a top 10 player in the NBA making $2 million a wonderful team building Advantage for the Raptors I’m very very thrilled um but yeah I would much rather take my chances with mobo as the backup center than having Jared Vanderbilt and the sort of money concerns he’d kind of just be like the new Chris bue for the next couple of years like nice player does some things for you maybe not a great fit and the money becomes just kind of a constraint to making moves in the offseason so there’s that the other guys the smaller salaries these ones get tricky because you get into three for one deals which is just hard for the Raptors to do with a full roster uh Jaylen Hood chafino Christian Wood um both make a little bit too little and also I just don’t think they really help the Raptors with what they need Christian Wood I know the talent’s all there and exciting but he has never been a player who teams like to have around for a long time and I think at this point you have to assume that that’s a Christian Wood problem and not the the teams that have employed him problem and then Jaylen Hood chafino I was not super high on him in the draft process I’m not super highing him now and again he’s a shooting guard the Raptors don’t need any more of those and so it does feel like one of haimura or Russell would have to be the big salary combined with the salary of one of Vincent or Jared Vanderbilt the the Vincent and Vanderbilt parts are the ones that kind of maybe derail this for me a little bit I do think uh Russell with one year left um haimura with two years with 17 million and 19 million over the next two seasons respectively I think those are fine deals to take on even if they’re not long-term parts of the picture you get some roster balance with hachimura he could be your starting small forward in theory and maybe that’s not perfect but if he shoots well again then hey that could actually kind of work takes a little bit of the defensive burden on the Wings off of Scotty Barnes and RJ Barrett you could talk me into that but again you have to then reckon with bringing back the Vanderbilt salary which is where those future first round picks come in I do think if there is a trade to happen here with the Lakers it’s probably Bruce Brown for one of Russell or uh or haimura my guess would be Russell is who they try to get in there but then again like who dribbles the ball for the Lakers is an open question um so maybe it’s haimura is the more likely guy it’s hard to say again how the Lakers value their own players a gigantic mystery most of the time um and then you’d have to have I think the Vanderbilt salary in there I think I would prefer the Vanderbilt salary than the Vincent salary just because the Raptors like need some bigs and stuff and maybe Vanderbilt’s a guy who can flip down the line maybe not and he just becomes like a sort of slightly overpaid rotation piece for you um obviously he missed a lot of last season as well so the health concerns there are a thing like can he get back to being Jared Vanderbilt with the rebounding and the switchable defense like there’s a useful player in there somewhere for the Raptors even even if the lack of shooting makes him a tricky fit um again I would rather just try Jonathan mobo in that spot but hey you can’t again you’re not gonna get a perfect deal here so I think if you could do like let’s say it’s haimura plus the uh Vanderbilt contract plus I think it’s got to be like for the roster balance from the Lakers side of things I do think it has to be sort of one of the guards one of the front Court guys so either hachimura and Vincent or Russell and uh Vanderbilt and then you get one of those first round picks attached I suppose that would be fine I think that would be better than just kind of hanging on to Bruce Brown I think Russell you could actually be um you know it wouldn’t be so bad to have D’Angelo Russell for one year even if he’s just like not the kind of player that I love to watch play basketball um any sort of talent upgrade for the guard core on this team the sort of point guard side of things I think would be helpful um you know so again either of those constructions I think you could talk me into and if like we got news tomorrow that that deal happened I’d be kind of all right with it but uh or either of those deals happen I’d be all right with it but it’s not sexy it’s not going to blow anyone’s socks off or anything like that um you know I don’t think there’s something there with like Jaylen Hood chafino coming back I know that’s the guy some people like again I’m not into more shooting guards um but like him plus Russell not enough him plus haimura not enough so end of the day one of haimura or Russell and one of Vincent or uh Jared Vanderbilt and probably some pick sweetener from the Lakers side of things maybe that gets it done with Bruce Brown are you getting an unprotected future first round pick from the from the Lakers I doubt it there’s probably some protection on that unless they really really covet Bruce brown maybe LeBron James has the thing for Bruce Brown that had for Russell Westbrook right like we never know exactly the valuations going on in that Lakers front office this could be a time where the Raptors can pull an asset that they maybe shouldn’t be getting for Bruce Brown this might be one of the ways they can save themselves here in the Bruce Brown situation but all told it’s pretty underwhelming I don’t think they’re getting anything all that life-changing back if they can get something from the Lakers maybe that saves this whole situation and the idea of this being a failure of opting in and keeping Bruce Brown on the team maybe that dissipates that’s one of the ways to save this a little bit it’s still not perfect it’s still not ideal but that’s kind of where we sit right now with the Raptors and the Lakers and Bruce Brown I apologize if the salary cap details got a little bit messy here because the salary cap is impossible to grasp it’s very hard to understand and I’m getting things wrong all the time that I think I’m getting right because CJ MC colum and the players who negotiated this thing ruined fun in the off season thanks guys really appreciate it but we’re going to leave it there we’ll be back again on Tuesday I’m actually off Friday Monday uh got some stuff to tend to and some friends in town who have not seen in a very very long time so I’m going to take a little time off if something crazy happens over the weekend I might duck in for a quick reaction but for the most part I’ll be quiet throughout the weekend and back on Tuesday and hopefully hopefully we have a Bruce Brown trade to talk about or some other stuff from the Raptors and and hopefully it’s not a disaster Bruce Brown trade that makes the whole problem even worse that would be not so fun but with that we will leave it there thank you so much have a great rest of your weekend uh follow subscribe rate review tell a friend all that good stuff always appreciated when you support the show however you support the show and we will talk to you again on Tuesday another episode lock on Raptors thanks for hanging bye bye

In Episode 1672, Sean Woodley digs into why the Toronto Raptors decision to pick up Bruce Brown’s option in the interest of trading him gets a little bit worse every day they aren’t able to swing a deal involving him, and whether the Los Angeles Lakers could be a team that saves the Raptors from Brown-related purgatory. Off the top, Sean digs into the ongoing quietness around Brown, and why the alternative routes the Raptors could have taken with their salary cap flexibility this summer are looking pretty interesting as Brown remains unmoved on a roster that is way too stacked with guards and undersized wings. Next, based on some reporting for Anthony Irwin of Lakers Daily indicated the Lakers have in fact checked in on Bruce Brown, Sean details the situation the Lakers find themselves in financially, who they have to trade, and why a small wrinkle in LeBron James’ contract could decide whether or not they and the Raptors could possibly connect on a deal for the former NBA champion Brown. Lastly, Sean sorts through which of the Lakers moveable players would best fit in Toronto, if any would at all, between Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russel, Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt. A lot of CBA minutiae in this one, baby! Thanks, CJ McCollum.

  1. Sean you sound like a casual. Bruce is GOOD. At the absolute worst he’s an expiring contract. We weren’t nessasarly getting anyone better in free agency. He is a good contract to trade. There will be value later in the season. This team is clearly tanking this year. Just be patient my friend. With the new CBA, an expiring 23 mil contract with a good player is MORE valuable.
