Cam Spencer to the Memphis Grizzlies – NBA draft pick reaction and player breakdown
Pam Spencer found his way to the Memphis Grizzlies after draft night uh Memphis ended up with Cam with a pick that belonged to the Pistons and I got sad when I was looking through all the picks being made in the second round realizing cam Spencer is not a piston I like him he would have been fun uh you think like Memphis you obviously think the grit and grind Grizzlies toughness all that isn’t this a pretty great culture fit for cam Spencer and Grizzlies fans yeah Grizzlies fans welcome to my mom and dad or lawyers Tony Allen no I’m kidding no that’s not it I’m sorry I I didn’t it was too easy out there for me to say but no look there is still somewhat of the grit and grind thing left of the Grizzlies I think now it’s it’s a thing of the past in my opinion with the new players that are there there’s definitely like a new I don’t know what their new mantra is I have to ask Daniel Greer what it is but I think there’s a role for a guy like cam Spencer I don’t know if that role is on the floor but I know that role is on the team and on the bench the whole season and maybe gets to some games but like he’s not a two-way guy to me he’s a real NBA roster player I hope it happens I think at minimum this is a guy who in practice is gonna like love competing with Jah Love competing with Desmond Bane like it’s Marcus Smart like this is a guy you throw into that honestly there’s a lot of like Marcus Smart cam Spencer stuff here for me where they remind me of each other Smart’s obviously a different level physically and athlete but like and cam Spencer is a different level shooter but just the way they approach the game especially defensively like they’re looking to make things happen and pickpocket and just kind of be these little villains and it works um they both have a knack for timely shots as well here’s my concern with Spencer and and I think it’s a great fit with Memphis you’re not going to hear me say anything bad about the fit with Memphis here’s my concern for Spencer Long Term the Grizzlies were bad last year mostly because johar couldn’t stay on a basketball court uh they played 33 players can we play a quick game of is Cam Spencer better than this guy yes okay I’m just gonna run through this sany Alama no Timmy Allen yes Cam Spencer’s better than Timmy Allen the Timmy Allen that left Texas oh no you I mean be answer it if you want but like yes yes so cam Spencer is better than Timmy Allen yes Dez Bane no bismack bio no Brandon Clark no toan EV wwam yes Wan Gabriel yes Jacob Gillard from Richmond yes Jordan Goodwin yes Shaq Harrison ah yes Matthew hurt yes GG Jackson no all these guys play for the we’re we’re not even halfway through jiren Jackson no dejon jro oh Houston killer he was kind of good I’ll say no Trey Json no Luke Canard no John Kar no Jake laravia no Kenny Lofton Jr no John Moran no Jaylen Noel uh no Zena Pereira yes Scotti Pippen Jr yes really maybe no David Rody no Dereck Rose no Xavier Simpson we’re almost done yes Marcus Smart no Lamar Stevens no zavier Tillman no Utah wanabi no Jack White no Jack White’s better than cam Spencer I think so yeah Vince Williams no zier Williams no okay so by that count cam Spencer would have been the 23rd best player on the Grizzlies last year ah okay I love the fit I think things are great but Memphis has had a lot of dudes come through many of those that I just named will not even be on the roster is just one of those things where like we can we can say as gritty tough intangibles as he is he’s he’s going to have to outplay some dudes in practice reality is Cam Spencer’s small and not the most athletic guy and he I think he’s going to have to shoot like 43% from three for this to stick long term yeah that makes sense
