GET UP | “Klay is start of Mavericks’ new dynasty” – Monica McNutt on Mavs will be favorites in West

the Warriors they’ve had a successful off season if I said that is that MC nuts so I’m going to say this is not MC nuts and hear me out before you say they didn’t go grab a big fish uh I think they have to understand that they’re now in a different category of team as far as being contenders I love Kyle Anderson I love buddy held I think they are terrific role players um they’re going to be able to space the floor again Anderson is very versatile I don’t know or I don’t think think I should say that there was a big fish that would have put them over the proverbial hump so all things considered I think this is patient this is measured um and this is okay they’re entering a new era Bobby will would you rank Golden State’s off season thus far I would put them in the top five on July 5th as far as off Seasons here I really like the Kyle Anderson and De Anthony Melton and certainly buddy heel you know certainly three separate transactions there but here’s the butt as Monica said is this roster good enough to get from 46 wins last year in the 10th seed here I still have questions about that okay uh let’s go to uh where would you talk about LeBron and the Lakers Monica they’re going to miss the playoffs with their current roster is that MC nuts uh I don’t think this is MC nuts and I I again we’re entering a new era with these teams right like I don’t think this is MC nuts I do think they find a way to get in but when you look at it right now you have to have a healthy respect for the rest of the Western Conference and what these young teams are doing the teams at the top for most of the season last year were a lot of younger guys that are going after their idols and their St and the people that have inspired them to play basketball at a high level and flat out there are just other better rosters Bobby you agree disagree yeah I I I agree I agree with Monica and I I look at it this way be be aware of two teams Memphis who missed the playoffs this past year with John Mar back healthy and certainly Houston that young ET team here two teams that missed the playoffs that can certainly contend as far as at least in the top 10 here so I think the Lakers missing the Playoffs I think that’s certainly a not a possibility but I think it certainly could happen here okay Monica last question Maverick should be the favorites to make the finals in the west is that MC nuts uh I’m going to go with this one being MC nuts just to smidge I have a ton of respect for what they were able to accomplish they retain that core I think Klay Thompson is the perfect piece um I think Klay Thompson will be able to get back to himself before it’s all said and done in a Mavs uniform but again we got to respect what’s happening in the Western Conference and to me as I look at out this thing I Bobby mentioned two teams that you got to consider that could really muck it up but I also think OKC made the requisite moves that they needed this off season and you would be a Miss to overlook them and so I just think the field is going to be tough in the Western Conference and so I can’t I don’t know about favorites I don’t know about favorit Bobby your thoughts well I love what Oklahoma City did and certainly what Dallas has done but I’m going to say that the West goes through Minnesota and they bring back the starting five I love what they did in the draft with with Rob Dillingham and Terence Shannon they still have Nas Reed nil Alexander Walker here so for me it’s Minnesota oh how about that Minnesota I like it but again we’re talk about these young teams so and this is why all things considered I think the West is going to be as tough as it was this past season I don’t think that Denver’s done they’ve got some questions obviously they lost some key pieces but I I just it’s going to be really really exciting and we’re witnessing The Changing of the Guard uh Monica what is in your opinion favorite move uh free agency I think it’s OKC for me um I I can remember calling a game alongside Mark Jones early in the season and Jonesy and I are going back and forth arguing about what OKC does or does not need to add and I totally understand looking at this thing and being like they’re a veteran away they’re a big way but again to me culture is so important we’ve heard guys talk about fit right fit SL culture synonyms when it comes to basketball the additions that they made in Caruso a veteran that is respected that is a star in his role player Isaiah hardstein an outstanding young man again a star in his role to me they fit the culture that is so important to what’s happening and OKC Bobby just said he thinks it goes through Minnesota do you think it goes through Oklahoma City uh West we got to do this already y July 5th look man it’s got to go through one of them you think it’s one of them it might be Denver too I mean here’s the thing if Dallas can put together and Bobby tell me if you agree the way Dallas what was it post All-Star break this year the way Dallas looked defensively we got to see if that was a small sample size that allowed them to stand out in that regard or if they can maintain that over the course of an actual season and of course with the additions of clay if Dallas can hold that level of defense and that level of offense we very well all be eating our words in terms of it’s going to go through Dallas okay Bobby what about Oklahoma City I mean I know you just talked about how you like Minnesota what about Oklahoma City though well listen they traded for Alex Caruso they signed Isaiah hartenstein the only player they lost was Josh Giddy and Brian they’re still sitting on these boatload of draft picks it cost them nothing they brought back Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe continuity matters in this league when you have an all NBA player in Shay gild Alexander a top three MVP candidate I think certainly Oklahoma City yep we’re going to put them right up there with the best teams in the Western Conference oh we got a lot to talk about in hoop football everything because coming up big need at shooter and they acquire buddy heeld from the Sixers in a signning trade for a second round pick in 2031 the 31-year-old heeld agreed to a two-year deal that will guarantee him 21 million although he’s not a splash brother heeld has made, 1600 threes over the last last six seasons that second behind is new backourt running mate in Steph Curry the Warriors ranked seventh in three-point percentage last season and made the second most threes of any team senior NBA Insider Adrien wowski joining us now how does this Warriors trade now uh when you bring in buddy heel kind of fill the void of Klay Thompson going to the Mavericks well you’re seeing the Warriors do it by committee and Buddy heeld was a free agent Philly just facilitated his signing they get a 2031 second round pick you know but for Buddy heel this is a very Team friendly contract essentially two years guaranteed at about 21 million and hee listen only Steph Curry has made more three-pointers in the NBA since hee came in the league 2016 2017 you add in Kyle Anderson who we reported uh that they are signing an A sign in trade with Minnesota and DeAnthony Melton another X sixer who’s coming over in free agency you’ve seen them fill out their roster with some more veteran depth and obviously you know buddy heeld is a shooter who’s going to probably come off the bench for this Warriors team uh listen they’ve recovered pretty well from Klay Thompson and you know you’ll see the growth of you know their first year players of Brandon p psky and his second year usually you see a jump I think the Warriors are happy with what they’ve able to do in this postseason they’re really high on kaminga too and the growth of that young team around Steph Curry okay free agency you’re still working you’re working hard a notable name that’s still out there what’s the latest of Miles bridges in the market yeah I think Miles Bridges is probably the best available free agent uh unrestricted in the marketplace Charlotte wants to bring him back you know they’ve made him an offer their new GM Jeff Peterson their new coach Charles Lee they’ve spent time with him and they’re allowing him to go out in the marketplace there are not teams necessarily with cap space for him Charlotte would have to facilitate a sign and trade and if they could get value back for Bridges they’re willing to listen if there’s a deal he’d like to take somewhere else but Charlotte would like to bring him back at a number and a number of years that they’re comfortable with you saw the emergence last year of Brandon Miller they hope lamelo ball is healthier this season and that’s a very good um uh Cornerstone for a young team and they’re still hopeful they’ll get miles Bridges back um but I think this is going to be a negotiation this one may play out a little bit into the month Miller a fantastic rookie season Melo has to stay healthy on the floor this past season Bridges averaged a career high 21 points and seven rebounds for the Hornets W thank you thanks Kevin man you cross the border and load up and go back in your state and out the for let’s take a look at some fireworks from a busy NBA off season the Thunder strengthening their roster adding big man Isaiah hartenstein from the Knicks and then trading for defensive stalard Alex Caruso OKC won the West last year just got harder to a beat plenty of fireworks in the home of the Liberty Bell freedom in Philly the Sixers signing the top free agent in nine time allar Paul George just hours later they gave Tyrese Maxi a Max extension after a breakout season Nick’s trying to catch the Celtics in the east as part of a massive deal they sent four unprotected first round picks of the Nets from Mel Bridges and then they signed OG anobi to [Music] a [Music] for e for for for for how foreign for for for

  1. The mavs knocked them all out, but somehow they aren't the favs even though they actually got better?! Lets take OKC for instance, defense in that series wasn't what won them the series, it was their offense. Sga was still scoring 30 a game. His team mates could help out enough. That series should have been over in 5, but the mavs gave one away. Now the mavs got even better.

  2. Respect who? The Thunder who they beat? The Wolves who they beat? The Nugs who got worse? Just stay eating nuts

  3. I really like the fact the media keeps continually underestimating the Mavs, even after they get Klay and also improve the team by getting Grimes and Marshall. I hope they keep it up. It will make any success the Mavs have feel so much better. Livelys continued improvement starting his second season will also help as he starts to become even more involved in the offense and his defense continues to improve.

  4. Saying the west runs through Minnesota is hilarious.
They got crushed by a Dallas team that got better.
And contrary to what I see online the Wolves weren't young.

OKC is a good, young team who got better. And they were the 1 seed. Calling them faves makes sense if you want to pivot off of Dallas.

  5. Mavs is the favorite in the west. How can anyone say otherwise at this point. They’re even better now. The only question is if it’s enough to beat Boston.
