  1. Makes sense. If he doesn’t even show he can be a rotational big on a contending team, he’ll probably be out of the league after this deal.

Would have to think this is his final shot before he’s out of the league for good.

He really has been that bad. Hopefully Tyrese can open up his game a bit more and he can show us something. But I don’t have a whole lot of hope. If he can’t show anything here, we’ll probably never see him in an NBA jersey again.

when was the last time a reclamation project worked out? i basically have zero expectations that Wiseman will be anything more than a “break glass in case of emergency” role player. maybe he contributes good stuff in 1 or 2 games and helps us get a win during the midseason slog if guys are hurt, that would be a great outcome tbh. but more likely than not, this dude is out of the league next year.

ofc hope to be wrong and we salvage a diamond from the rough but the chances are slim.

Perfect. Super low risk, pretty solid potential reward. There is a 90% chance he continues to be a defensive liability and is almost unplayable for us. In that case he takes up a roster spot for part of a year. We lose almost nothing, because I doubt anyone else we would sign to be our 14th man would be that much more impactful. But on the 10% chance that it finally clicks for him, we get a very high level back up big for two years on a minimum deal. That could be huge for us

When I saw we gave him a 2 year deal my immediate thought was the 2nd year was a team option, but no one seemed to be suggesting that could be the case.

This is a pretty perfect scenario for us. Rick has already proven that he won’t play you if you don’t earn mins/there isn’t a role for you (he straight up benched Theis for a whole season and he’s a good player). We aren’t locked into any money. We needed a cheap contract to fill the 3rd center role. Wiseman has enough potential that we could make something of him. If he’s good we pick up his team option, if he causes issues or doesn’t improve we just cut him. The concern here is if Turner gets injured for an extended period, which has happened a few times in his career and suddenly we have Jackson and Wiseman as our bigs. If Jackson is also out we then have Wiseman and Tshiebwe. Times like that you’d probably be wishing we had Theis to fall back on still.

  6. Two year, league minimum deal with the first year only partially guaranteed and a team option on the second screams “we know you’ll be out of the league if you don’t take this”.

I can’t believe we went from Brian Windhorst saying the Pacers are actively looking to get Tyrese help … to only signing James Wiseman on a partial guarantee and now we’re just done. Running it back hoping Aaron Nesmith and Ben Sheppard can guard Tatum, Brown, George, Bridges, Anunoby, etc…
