Will The Toronto Raptors Re-Sign Gary Trent Jr.?

all right today we are going to talk free agency Raptors and I mean I’m sure you can see in the title so very obviously Gary Trent Jr what’s up everybody it’s JJ buckets usual drill before I get into sports betting in the near future just make sure to check out my link in the description below there was a report earlier in fre agency had talked about the fact that it you know uh based on the market based on everything that was going on uh it would be a surprise to see if Gary Trent Jr even got like the mid-level exception from teams and you know it’s somebody that has very obviously watched Gary Trent Jr over the past few years I mean look the guy has his flaws but that came as surprising to me I thought to myself like no way like G Trent Jr is a pretty damn decent basketball player so it it came as shocking to me but here we are sitting on what like I think it’s July 6th when I filmed this let me take let me take a quick look July 5th sorry and Gary Trent Jr is indeed still sitting in free agency unsigned we’ve heard almost next to no news quite frankly of the fact that Gary Trent JR could potentially be looking at a new team or that quite frankly anybody’s really been targeting him and that’s kind of crazy to me I mean again hey look like G Tren Jr is not the perfect player um if he was I don’t think this discussion would be had and I think he would have a new team by now or he would have been brought back to the Raptors already but he’s more than a talented enough player to be on a roster and definitely be in somebody’s rotation so I I just think it’s kind of crazy to me that he’s still sitting in free agency with next to no news and that I think warrants the discussion of whether or not the Raptors should bring him back now I think the pros of this situation are quite obvious in the fact that like a by the looks of it you’re really not going to have to spend big if you want to bring back Gary Trent Jr the question would be whether or not Gary would want to take like a one-year like prove it deal or something and whether or not that’s something that you want to give him um but when it comes to the price tag at this point by comparison to the fact that again there’s no news out of the Gator Trent Jr Camp I think when you consider that any price tag for Gary Tren Jr is going to be modest so the Raptors are realistically looking at a situation where they could get this guy pretty cheap and who knows maybe maybe that he doesn’t take the onee approved deal maybe you sign him to the roster on like a nice little like cheap threeyear contract or whatever the case is like the Raptors very obviously have the bird rights over Gary so they could legitimately give him whatever kind of offer that they want to it’s just a matter of whether or not they want to and I think for as flat as his game is and you know as much as everybody wants to talk about you know the streaky shooting and stuff like that he still shoots a very clean percentage at the end of the day he’s still a very productive player and obviously like he needs somebody else to create for him like he’s not really a self-c Creator in terms of his offense but there are guys on the Raptors that can get him as offense whether it be IQ whether it be Scotty Barnes and quite frankly I would even go as far as like RJ Barrett and such like they’re people that can set him up right like in terms of the kind of defensive that they’re going to draw in particular like Barnes would be the obvious answer right and I think that’s the key part at the end of the day is whether or not you look at G Tren Jr and you think of him as a player that fits well besides Scotty Barnes because you’re obviously trying to build around Scotty Barnes and I think the argument is easily that yeah he fits well besides Scotty Barnes the shooting ability is obvious and I think he’s okay enough on the defensive end like when when he tries G Tren Jr can be a solid Defender um so I don’t really see I guess a huge a huge reason to not look at this guy and think to yourself hey he’s going to be cheap he’s the kind of player that fits around the franchise Cornerstone so why not throw him an offer right I think that’s kind of where the conversation is at but there’s obviously some counter to that as well so on the flip side of things when it comes to the positional need I don’t necessarily think it’s there anymore and there’s a couple of reasons why you know I look at this and I’m like yeah honestly I think the Raptors are cool to just stamp out where they are a I’ve talked about it before I think the in their best interest they should be looking ahead to the 2025 NBA draft although the team I think is sneakily good enough to be a playing Team uh next season I think the pieces are there especially with some of the other teams around them like Chicago and Brooklyn Etc kind of folding for next season I think the Raptors if they want want to could probably compete for a playin with relative ease should they compete for a playin is a different discussion very obviously but can they probably that being said I think the main goal should be development acquiring young talent and I think the 2025 NBA draft is the best way to do that and when it comes to the actual like on roster fit let’s take a look at it this way so currently what would the Raptor’s rotation be it would be IQ at the one Grady at the two in all likelihood RJ at the three Barnes at the four Perle at the five Off the Bench you got you probably want to make time for Kobe Walter I think that’s an obvious one um Kelly o linic is not going anywhere o you still have then you have you know one of Davon or shed that’s going to Warrant minutes uh as the backup point guard one of one of them is going to earn that spot so you have guys that are going to take up minutes right like I don’t think that’s an issue like and quite frankly when it comes to the wings like between you know wanting to find time for jacobe Walter between o between Grady between RJ Barrett like is there really need or room for Gary Trent Jr especially if you know you’re prioritizing the youth movement and such not that Gary’s a particularly old player but just saying like you got guys in those positions and guys that you probably want to see play considerable minutes next year so I don’t know if there ‘s a I don’t know if there’s a need and I think that’s quite frankly why the Raptors and Gary Trant Jr that deal hasn’t already been done it’s not really a reflection of the fact that he’s a bad player I don’t don’t think he’s a bad player by any means I think he’d be hardpressed to find somebody that makes the argument that g Tren Jr is a bad player but is he considering the direction of the team a player that you want to invest considerable minutes in especially if you really don’t know if he’s going to be there long term like if you’re bringing him in on like a one-year prove it deal or whatever is that a guy that you want to be giving considerable minutes to right like there there’s a lot of discussion in that uh regard and quite frankly like I don’t know man like I think the Raptors have positioned themselves just fine to move on without him and to not feel the need to bring him back but I think this conversation more stems from the fact that hey like this would be this would be cheap and this would be easy by the looks of it considering that he has no Market or at least to this point he’s really had no market right so it’s an interesting discussion I’ll leave it up to the comment section where do you folks stand on it would you want to see Gary Trent Jr back in a Raptor’s Jersey or do you think that his time with the de has passed and the Raptor should go ahead and you know give that starting spot to like dick for the next season and see what he looks like in the starting lineup anyways thank you for making it to the end of the video usual The Toronto Raptors have most of their roster spots figured out for the upcoming season. One big question remains: will the Raptors bring back Gary Trent Jr.?
