Is Philly ready for a Ben Simmons return? Is Eric Gordon a better Sixers option than Buddy Hield?

Ben Simmons do you want Ben Simmons back in the Sixers uniform and is Eric Gordon better than buddy Hill we’ll talk about that more next on locked on 76 you are locked on 76ers your daily Philadelphia your first purchase terms apply hi I’m Keith Pompei and this is my right-hand man John Mitchell and we are the co-hosts of locked on 76ers we got a lot to talk to y’all about today John is brought up asking a question because it seems to be popular right now good Ben Simmons comeback should the Sixers sign them for a minimum what should they they do should they bring them back woo we talk about that the first one again the second one we’re going to talk about Eric Gordon buddy Hill who’s better and then the last segment we just going to got a secret for y’all whatever comes to mind that’s what we’re going to talk about but Mitch talk to me about your thoughts on Ben Simmons coming back yeah Keith it was uh it was interesting last night that talk started to percolate you know you surfing the internet and you’re looking for stuff talk about looking for stuff to read and Ben Simmons kept popping up on on my fees and apparently and then and this is putting a this is putting the cart way in front of the horse you know is I don’t know there’s any activity around this but there is this premise out there this thesis by some sixes fans and M Mr hate Ben Simmons that some people are actually Wishful that they created the scenario where the Nets buy Simmons out I think he’s Ed about $40 million this year where Nets buy him out in the 76ers bring back Ben bring hence the bring back Ben movement bring back Ben Simmons to Philadelphia and you know as a 76er and put him you know see if he can if he can fulfill that need because there is a need for a power forward on that roster and um I found that interesting because you know Ben is a guy um that was one of the most hostile and vitriolic breakups I’ve seen in Philadelphia is probably since to you know probably since that he just became completely polarized the thing now is it um the Ben Simmons who we’ve seen since the 76 is traded him for James hard is just not much of a player you know but he does put up numbers that would qualify him as a decent power forward as as a decent minimum contract guy you know I mean granted he only appeared in 15 games last year he only played in 42 games the year before that he’s never averaged more than 6.9 points in the past two seasons um you know he’s still a decent rebound is 6.3 7.9 but the thing is do you want is that a step backwards Keith and and bringing a guy who brings back such rancid memories Ben Simmons but do you put your SE your feelings aside take in consideration the condition of his back and just set your feelings aside say hey we do the 76ers do need a power forward that’s because you know and at a minimum he might be your guy yeah um that’s a great that’s a great question you know the thing is I I I’ll say this you know Joel andb was talking to Tyrese Maxi lately late recently on I believe it was Maxi’s podcast where he said Ben Simmons was the one who got away right the one that they could have had something to work out um you know like you said the way it the way it ended was rough but at the same time you know you never say never in regards to repairing a fractured relation fractured relationship the and the only problem I have is that the work that Ben Simmons didn’t put into his game in the early stages is coming back to bite them in the tail yeah and what I mean by that is when you look at Ben Simmons he he was blessed with elite athletic he could do anything like if Ben Simmons wanted to play soccer if he smaller he would playing over in Europe if Ben Simmons wanted to play football he would be in the NFL I mean he had that much guy given ability but when it comes down to god-given Ability sometimes you slack off on the other things like you don’t put in the work improving your shot you know you don’t do things like that so to me when I saw him play last year a couple times and the year before that he didn’t have that explosiveness and because of that he couldn’t get to certain spots and what that did is it took away a lot of his game so my thing is if he can’t be explosive and D and play the way that you wanted him to he might just be a rotation guy or a little bit of guy and I think it could be a distraction and and the thing and the thing is sometimes he says he wants to come back but is it because you want to come back and again I got the utmost respect for Ben but do you want to come back because the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and then when you come back are you going to expect to be the guy that you were before are you are you going to expect them to treat you the way they did before the ball and all that other stuff so you know when when you factor all that stuff in you know they might be better off getting Dory and Finny Smith trading for him or somebody else who comes on um off the books but yeah I I don’t know man I I feel like there’s a lot of bad blood and I also look at Ben and and I look at his game and and I don’t see that explosiveness I don’t see a jump shot I don’t see a foul shooter yeah you know I see somebody huh you’ll see that at some point in the summertime video yeah I mean yeah what I do see is a guy that I can’t put on the floor in the fourth quarter of a close right so you know what I mean like you want to go out and get people that’s going to help you win the championship right you gotta ask Daryl myy has to ask himself is over him being an a distraction or not a distraction or a circus type thing creating a circus type atmosphere right is he going to help me win a championship yeah if the answer is no you can’t go get him right and it’s like is it worth it yeah and now again that’s that’s objective that’s his opinion you know I mean but to me if he says he can’t help me win a championship then it’s not worth bringing him back yeah and you know with him I mean he’s I mean we all saw what he did when he you know Rookie of the Year beating up guys like uh Jason Tatum and Donovan Mitchell um when we saw this guy we were like this is a more athletic version of Magic Johnson you know minus a jump shot um and of course magic worked on his jump shot because magic magic jump shot jumper was always that stand freeze and take the jumper and it was always better than Ben Ben never had a jump shot um but you know you saw the red flag you’ve been through this before um and are you know obviously he’s no he’s not a guy with a $170 million deal he would be guy on a much lesser contract but is it worth it you know you know that Ben can go kitty cat on you you know you know you know he’s likable guy but he went he quit he literally you know he literally told the Sixers keep this 30 Mill you know I’m G I can’t play for you all um and and and that stuff will be unavoidable when he goes out there and he has bad moments and he’s passing up layups uh and I still see him doing stuff like that you know people gonna be like nah we just you know we got rid of this why do we bring it back again the flip side is he even even with the compromis back still a good Defender um still still a good rebounder um but it was just such a bad ending to that relationship that you just don’t know if if you want to revisit that yeah you’re exactly right you don’t you don’t know if you want to do that well I know what I do want to do is let’s talk about game time right now you know you want to get out to a major leag baseball game this summer you know you’ve built some fine memories of baseball in the past and right now the Phillies are building great memories in the present uh for Philadelphia fans well I think you should consider game time right about now you can get last minute tickets Flash Deals Zone deals easy to find and buy MLB tickets and for every other event the concerts that are coming to second thing we want to talk about is we want to compare two players and the two players that we want to compare are Eric Gordon well who uh is going to sign a one-year minimum deal with the Sixers and the second player we want to talk about is Buddy Hill who could be in line to get signed and traded to the Golden State Warriors so Mitch tell me bro who do you think is better I mean how do you compare you know it’s interesting that they’re both good three-point Shooters we didn’t get a chance to really see that from Eric I mean from Buddy Hill this year I think I think Buddy Hill is closer to but not the player we saw in game six against the New York Knicks uh where he had the 17-point quarter and he really shot the ball well we know that he’s somewhat of a defensive Li ability um you know when he first arrived he was you know he was showed that he could do some things other than the three-point shot but he kind of those those creative moments kind of became fewer and fewer and far between later on the season went on and eventually got to the point where he wasn’t being played uh by by the team um he’s younger than Eric Gordon you know ER Eric Gordon’s got some miles on him but Eric Eric Gordon can still shoot it um you know he he can he can still shoot the Rock and you know interest interestingly enough you know he he appeared in 68 games last year um and I think if I’m not mistaken buddy Hill a play appeared in like that weird thing where 83 or something like 83 yeah something crazy yeah before game and and you know I mean Eric Gordon I mean Once Upon a Time he was a 22 Point per game scorer but that was going you got to go back to 2011 you know to find that so you know I I think there’re there similar players I think the Sixers will the one thing that Sixers will want them to do is you know who who was the better Defender at this stage and you’re not looking at Great defenders in either situation Eric Gordon one time was a better Defender um but man he is really you know he’s 35 years old um and which is actually you know one year older than the free agent gem that the 76ers has signed so just go it’s kind of interesting to see how differently people age um so if I had to go with one guy right now I think I’d probably give a little bit of an edge to Eric Gordon just because um you know buddy is more predictable as a player you know you know what he you you can force him to settle into just being onedimensional I think Eric Gordon has still more creativity even even that an advanced age I think he has more creativity than uh than buddy Hill does yeah I think you know what to me to me you know when you look at it you know uh but Eric Gordon is a career 37.1 3point shooter where buddy Hill is a career 40% shooter well I mean but when you act to break it down like you know Gordon played an 886 games compared to 632 you know to to buddy so I mean don’t get me wrong they’re both pretty good sample sizes but at the same time the more games you play the older you get your shot goes down a little bit yeah the one thing to point out though that both on the bahaman uh Bahamian national team this summer um like hoping to try to make it to the Olympics so so that that that’s something to point out but here’s the deal I think that for what the the Sixers are looking for right now when you have like a buddy Hill buddy is not going to get the minutes that buddy would probably like to get right yeah so and that’s why you go out there and you draft a a Jared mccan he’ll a rookie guy could come in he can shoot the ball as well bud he’s bigger than him the whole nine but at the same time we’re talking about filling out a roster and buddy is going to have to make more money right yes so I think you go out and you get a Jared mccan and then you also go like the Sixers did you could sign a Eric Gordon to a minimum and hope that the spacing is there enough to where he can you know uh hit a couple shots but also more so the leadership quality you know and also the familiarity with playing with Paul George you know things like that so right right I feel like when you factor in if you have to say which one you going to take at this time who is better at this time I would have to say buddy in my opinion right when you say who is the better Fit For What the Sixers are trying to do I’mma have to say Eric you know what I mean I’mma have to because buddy needs to play and if Buddy ain’t playing he ain’t no like you know what I’m saying it’s like he ain’t like he ain’t going help you in I mean he may but I think that when you got a guy that’s 35 been in the league 16 years he can be a good locker room guy for you you know what I mean he can be whereas buddy don’t get me wrong you know he played in the league for a minute but at the same time buddy I can see buddy getting disgruntled I want to get I want to play I want to do this I want to do that you know what I mean because see the thing about Buddy is every spot that he been at everything was seem to be good until he lost his spot right after that he got traded yeah you know I mean it’s like he want it out so to me it’s like you look at buddy are you g to start him at the two probably not if you’re not going to start him then don’t bring him here because it could become a problem in my opinion yeah and what’s interesting new is last year um you know Eric Gordon still managed to play 28 minutes per game and you know and he started 24 so he um I mean he’s a guy who and you didn’t hear much about him OB because he wasn’t setting the leg on fire but you know he was in that crazy situation out there you know uh in in Phoenix but you know he’s a guy who like like you said he has familiarity with Paul George you don’t need him to come you don’t need that guy to come in here and and be a dominant player be you know you just don’t need that and I think from a chemistry standpoint from the pieces you know it’s almost like six to one half dozen in the other budy Hill will give you more explosive minutes only because he’s a younger player um but I I do think that you know and 37% 40% you’re not going to be taking a whole lot of thre I mean you got your three-point Shooters now you got Maxie you got um you have Paul George you know theoretically those are the guys who getting the line share those three so um we just it’s I think I think Eric Gordon is a good pick for them I think he fits well what they’re trying to do you know you know you get your big three and you put pieces around it and I think he falls in line with that again you know buddy Hill can get a little Moody when when he’s not seeing his minutes you know yeah I agree I I agree I agree but look man I’m thinking about maybe we could just talk about um you know we yesterday we talked about the power forwards and you know I would kind of like revisit some of I got some names a guy that I would like to talk to you about and and we we talked about him Dory and Finny Smith yeah and just see how you feel about him I think that the only problem is you got to trade for him but you know we’ll we we’ll talk about that when we get right back that was quick so Mitch so here’s a guy I want to talk to you about Dorian finy Smith right so Dorian finy Smith I’ve known him for a while pretty a good kid or you know um well I followed him for a while so the thing about Dorian FY Smith you know he’s from portford now either his mom’s from Camden or she’s from Chester okay from one of the two so he got he has family here right okay and the thing is he’s undersized at 6’7 20 pounds but he he plays P he plays both positions power forward and small forward now last year when he got tra when he was with Dallas he was the glue guy then he get traded to the Brooklyn Nets the glue guy he averages 8.5 points 4.7 rebounds you know um you know he does a lot of dirty work so um you know now the jazz is a is a serious consider um jur excuse me the Jazz are Ser are considering him seriously the Sixers had some I don’t know how serious the conversations were but to me right now if you he seemed like he could be a good G the only problem with him is that if they trade him and they take an more Sal the Sixers then they’re putting out they’re going to be in that second apron they don’t want to do that right now now the thing is though you look at it you know he made like 12 but Paul Reed is making like I mean if you get rid of Paul Le you have like nine million left so it’s a long hard thought about getting this guy and there could be some other guys out there but I think that with with you got a star like MB right you got Maxi you got uh Paul George it’s good to have a guy that’s coming in and that’s going to be a hustle dude yeah I feel like he could fill that need you know what I mean I think that he could yeah yeah he’s I mean it seem like we are going to hear his name pop up now um yeah it sounds like he might be on the move I mean I I like him he um I mean he he doesn’t move me doesn’t move the needle exponentially but like I said you know he’s he’s career he’s Ric career 8.2 8.3 points per game he’s a decent rebounder um and he does all the things that you know it very sounds very cliche but he does all those things that you want energy guy to do energy guy hustle guy that’s who he is I think um you know you you may have that in Paul Reed again it’s it’s going to come you know it comes down to money you know what they what they’re going to do they spent so much time playing Paul Reed as a backup five a small ball five um and you know if if you look at their roster right now they really don’t have that um I mean I don’t I don’t know what the kid from UCLA is going to provide them with but I mean like like I said Doran FY Smith where wherever he’s been he’s been solid you know you you be you be inserting a solid guy in the roster um and I I know people going to say we all just got finished talking about Ben we think Ben is is a better player Ben does have more skill than he does uh it’s just you know Ben’s back is a ticking Time Bomb you know you just don’t know whether he’s going to be there for even one game to the next so I like dor finy Smith he’s he’s he’s a you know it’s a there’s a hge podge of players out there who play the four and it’s I don’t think there’s a lot of super quality there but again you know you’re looking for guys who who are going to be available to you night in and night out um and you know who can have their moments and you know we’ve seen Dorian phny Smith have his moments so I’m not opposed to I’m not opposed to Poss possibly trading for him you know yeah I mean he you know the only thing is it’s just the money you know what I mean like yeah I mean like being in the cap space and all this stuff and you know there’s some other guys who can become available like I know that they they spoke to Reggie bullet uh but he’s not a power for it right right they also spoke to a guy Hayward heith um spoke to his representation so you know what I mean but he’s a guy that he’s also that same up six7 around can play both positions tweeners yeah it was tweeners you know I mean but I I think and that situation Dorian would be the guy that I would go after first you know what I mean he would be but now here again you never know what they can get with the sign and trade so if they can get a sign and trade going so you know that’s and there a lot of stuff that’s going on for the Sixers and you know they they they got the big piece now it’s all about roster construction I hate to say it but uh losing Nico really hurt them really hurt them a lot them a lot but hey I like Dorian a lot but y’all I would like to thank y’all for listening we want y’all to have a blessed day and we’ll be back uh tomorrow peace have a good one y’all

  1. The one thing Ben Simmons can do is rebound the ball and play defence, and he will make a good power forward on this team. He cannot be a guard because he cannot and will not shoot. Kyle is too old to start for this team, and we all know Nick Nurse plays his starters long minutes. The sixers need to get a point guard.

  2. Tbh he would actually fit this team. Maxey is not a playmaker. So now you will have 3 high level perimeter shooters especially in transition with Ben Simmons elite playmaking. A lot of Philly fans don’t really watch sports just highlights. Ben Simmons is definitely what they need. Especially with today’s nba. He can’t shoot but Netheir can Draymond. He just has to play like draymond be a play maker

  3. Resign Bem Simmons , sit him over a swimming pool and let’s throw bricks 🧱.. but in all honesty Simmons should have always been a power forward with ball handling responsibilities. Like Lamar Odom.. Ben Simmons at the 4, for the low ain’t horrible

  4. Sixers can instead go for Jacob Toppin RFA ,,3&D , F/PF, who has deep three ball range. Or Precious Achiuwa RFA, Knicks are more cash strapped than us. Wish we had a scoring backup center

  5. Let’s do a 3 team trade with us, Nets & the warriors
We sign and trade buddy send him to the warriors the nets send us Finney-Smith and the nets get picks back and or b-ball Paul.

  6. I think Ben Simmons coming back would be doable since Glenn rivers is no longer in The equation. Doc instigated a lot

  7. We have grown past ben…
We tyna get a chip he cant help us now if we were a MID team it mite be ok but we shooting for a ring ben is not a want a ring type of player he needs to be on a non championship type team but then again his game has regressed so much he might not deserve a spot in the league at all

  8. Let's be clear Ben one best passers n defenders in league. Your two best players embid n maxey below average passers. Simmons would be perfect but realistic not come bk cause pressure. We complain all we want but guy fill a role we needed since left

  9. They need a passer, rounder and defender. DFS is a 3 not a 4 and will not help on the boards the way we need vs the Knicks, Celtics, Heat and even Cavs. Ben can do those 3 needed things…Im 60/40 leaning No to if they could bring him back on the min. If they can get Dario get him cause he could rebound, solid passer and would be ok in help(team) defense, plus solid IQ.

  10. Knew they was going to consider this lol but if he just come play defense and distrubute the ball I don't care .let's work I'm about business in real life too soo my view is just that.

  11. I started the bring Ben Back, I was at the Sixers game last year vs Brooklyn, and the only person saying " Lets go Ben" in the midst of rudy philly fans

  12. PHILLY ALWAYS LIKES A COMEBACK STORY. BS COMING OFF THE BENCH MIGHT ALLOW HIM TO BE A VERY SOLID 6 MAN WITHOUT THE PRESSURE ALL WHILE STILL SURROUNDED BY OTHER STUDS LIKE HIM: PG, JE, TM,

  13. Ben on this sixers roster would be huge because it’ll be a low risk high reward. The risk is obviously his health but if he can get you at least 60 games, the defensive ability and rebounding would certainly elevate the team even more

  14. Ben on this sixers roster would be huge because it’ll be a low risk high reward. The risk is obviously his health but if he can get you at least 60 games, the defensive ability and rebounding would certainly elevate the team even more

  15. This would be so crazy and yet so Philly. We do some wild things. Ifor anything that makes us better and will respect him for willing to walk back through that door.

  16. Who do yall think better between dorian finney smith & precious achuiwa???? And we have to ask ourselves did we really give buddy a fair amount of time with the team to really see if he fits? And to be honest if we can get ben simmons on a vet minimum and a clean physical why wouldn't you do it? If you just ask him to do what we need him to do which is rebound, lock other teams best players up and play make he he can do that on a high level if his back goes out on him then your not losing too much. Go into it not expecting anything else just what he does best

  17. People are gonna be crying bad this season when our bench is bottom 3 in the NBA. We never learn 😂 hope PG13 was worth it..

  18. I think its a good move. Especially at the nba minimum. This team needs rebounding and defense..
Ben can do that plus he is a geeat passer.

  19. if ben comes back he will play 5 games tops. it will be w huge mistake. cant believe this is even a thought. its like taking back a bad gf/bf thinking they are gonna change then they do the same thing. craziness

  20. If the 6ers bring Ben back it will go right along with the last 10 years of absolute incompetence by the front office.

  21. Granted Ben Simmons played his best basketball as a 76er but after moving on and two back surgeries no way he should come back (& won't case closed..). Bottom (& most important..) line don't think Embiid would want him back for he wants his teammates to be all in, especially when it comes to the playoffs (& why the the team brought in players like George & Drummond).

  22. Obrue should come off bench they don't need all these guys starting. Obrue was doing great as 6th man LY. Sixers need back up PG and not old ass Lowry. People flipping out cause they haven't finished roster just fking relax holy shit. Also Sixers even though the 28 LAC pick is aways out need to hold on to that could be valuable. Sixers need McCain Council to give them decent mins. I think they should bring back Martin. PG mentioned him recently and Morris. Gary Trent? Derozan vet min would be funny.Saric would be a nice PF fit. Forget Smith. Nets wants a 1st there nuts. Was reading they can offer KJ Martin 20mil and then use that in season. This new CBA is all over the place

  23. Oh my God. Let’s not forget the fact that the whole time Ben was here he refused to work on any basketball skills lying to us to our face and this is what you’re talking about bringing back to Philadelphia. Why don’t you just leave?😂

  24. The fact that Ben Simmons is just a liar the fact that Ben Simmons what has he done God’s giving him all that talent and he refuses to help himself are you kidding me? You can’t fix stupid.

  25. These comments are LITERALLY INSANE😂😂😂😂😂 doing the same thing and expecting different results😭😭 I think its cool that Sixers fans only pay attention to the Sixers, but for those of yall who dont know this guy literally doesnt want to play basketball anymore, he just wants to collect the rest if his max contract that he finessed and go about his way…Sean Marks is prolly vomiting in a corner somewhere bc Sixers Twitter reminded him that Ben Simmons still exist

  26. You Keith was the one who helped his ego to leave. You suck. But to make things right than you should be the one who brings him home. His best years were in Philly. All he has to do publicly is apologize to the fans and the city in a news conference and let’s get this thing back on track and win this Championship. So Keith get on it put the same energy in this as you did when it was going left. Get him back Keith.

  27. Ridiculous.
People want to sign a guy who fell apart in the middle of a playoff game and never recovered.
Who hasn’t done shit since that game and has barely played.
Who refused to play for the team and sat out. Then sued the team for not paying him for refusing to play. Who can’t stay on the floor, and when he’s on the floor looks like he isn’t supposed to be there.
He was never mentally tough enough to be in the league and he should hang em up and stop stealing money from teams who could use it for players who deserve to be there.
