Dennis Smith Jr is a lockdown defender (1:1 STL/TO) and a talented playmaker (3:1 AST/TO). He’s an amazing POA defender, reads passing lanes like a hawk, sets up teammates for easy looks, puts pressure on the rim, and is a legit lob threat at 6’2. I do have to clarify that he is a horrible shooter (29.4% from 3, 74.1% from the FT line), but I believe the Mavs have enough shooting on the team, and would benefit from a playmaker who can create looks for them. He’s also such an incredible guard defender that I’m willing to ignore his shooting woes.

So what do we think? Is he worth the last roster spot and the rest of the MLE?

To be fair… defense like that was a foul in games 1 & 2 of the finals when it was within 10.

I like DSJ as a deep bench player when we reach the playoffs and to spell our starters from the long season of garbage time minutes that deplete luka and kyrie. I am in the we need another stretch 4 camp but I wont be mad if we run with luka’s first backcourt buddy.

while I think he would be a great pick up, dallas needs to give hardy his run. hardy has been patiently waiting working on his craft and improving. first year he put up 9 points on good efficiency albeit on a non playoff team. he still improved and managed to provide 7 a game on a finals team so its time to give him a legit shot before he hits free agency. hardy should be getting the 6th man role and having a 6’2 Dennis smith clogging up the roster.

Let’s take that from “interested” to acquiring light speed quick lol

I remember a few years ago he stripped Lebron 5 times in the fourth quarter. He put guards in hell when he would press them full court. He can also play make well, bring him home PLEASE

I’m in on DSJ. The rosters have a lot of SG, but this would be a backup PG. I think we need it. Gotta start finding a way to get Luka down to 36ish a game. And he’ll also miss time so a DSJ would allow everyone else to stay in their own position.

For the money we have left, an athletic, defensive, playmaking guy that can play point guard is the best option (unless Nico cooks up more trades).

I wish he could be consistent from 3…even if he could shoot like 34% from 3 he will be a great asset…

Instead of signing another guard/ball handler, I think we should get a big that can shoot and defend that can be an insurance replacement for Maxi.

It took me a while to figure out who he was I thought he was getting blocked or missing the whole time

I’m in except.. he’s not gonna get any minutes until garbage time. I prefer either a backup 4 especially if PJ gets hurt (another option than Maxi) or a vocal vet who brings leadership and the vibes.

Super proud of the changes and evolution DSJ underwent to effectively save his career. He turned from an inefficient score-first guard into a real defensive bulldog with great athleticism and timing. Would be thrilled to have him back.

Imagine this dude with Luka. That’s a playoff team!

DSJ would essentially be a 3rd string PG on this team. If he is ok with that then he’s not a bad option.

He’ll also probably be good for chemistry and vibes.

And we need some high flying dunks now that flight 55 is gone.
