(Ep 7) Kel’el Ware Shines for Miami Heat in Summer League @MiamiHeatZone

[Music] one [Applause] shot welcome back to another episode of the Miami Heat Chronicles my name is Amir I’m joined today by Martel you can find Martel at the Miami Heat Zone podcast you can find me at Team de beat Miami Heat so before we get started on today’s episode just want to remind everybody I’m on my path to 2,000 subscribers and Martell is on his path to ,000 subscribers so if you guys can hit that subscribe button that would mean a lot to us so for today’s episode Martell I wanted to hop on real quick talk about the Miami Heat summer league they’ve played two games now this weekend in the California classic here in my backyard as some of you guys know I live in San Francisco been a Heat fan pretty much most of my life but it was nice to be able to go see the Miami Heat live I didn’t go today unfortunately I actually went to the first game where they lost by almost 40 points against the Warriors yesterday where they scored 66 points and a horrible offensive outing but it was still good to see kle um and kashad and a few other players yesterday but today is what I want to talk to you about Martell Heat win 102 to 86 against the Kings and kle we had his best game of the summer league in his short NBA career what are your thoughts on him in general obviously today where he scored 2611 three assists one block but also just in general how do you feel he looks out there and like what are your thoughts on his like potential of actually getting significant minutes in the regular season the potential and the size is there I just think he’s gonna have to definitely put on some you know muscle mass he’s goingon to have to hit the weight room but other than that I don’t necessarily think he’s going to start obviously right next to Bam game one but especially as we get closer to the end of the season I could definitely see his maturity being there I could definitely see the size starting to get there you know obviously you know he’s not going to on 10 pounds of muscle that quick but I just think that the talent is there the turnaround shot the back to the basket he’s blocking everything moving and even if he’s not blocking he’s detering all the shots even close to the rim so I definitely like his touch I like his athleticism I think it’s just GNA obviously take some time for him to develop yeah I agree I like his touch especially this game he scored pretty much all of his points in the paint and I mean he went 0 for two from three I don’t know what his stats were yesterday I know he scored 12 points I was at the game like I mentioned he scored I think eight to 10 of those like in the fourth quarter when the heat were already down by like 30 points and the game was completely out of hand but he needs to clean up his free throws like he was two for five today which not horrible but not great but 12 for 21 overall and like a lot of nice turnaround jumpers and hook shots like soft touch he looked really good he was leveraging his size today he wasn’t doing that on um Saturday and taking advantage of smaller Warrior Defenders but today he had two and one dunks even though he missed those two free throws for both of those attempts you got to see his size and his athleticism and to your point defensively averaged two blocks per game in college had five blocks in the first game against the Warriors won today so he’s averaging three blocks per game right now you could see that 75 Wings span and you could see that he is really good defensively like offensively he’s playing against guys who most likely aren’t going to be in the league um and playing against some prospects so of course I would hope that he would dominate like he did today offensively it’s going to be a lot harder to score against NBA players and against big centers so I I agree with you on the the point where he needs to put on some weight but he could still be kind of like a porzingis if you will who never put on that type of weight and still be a effective player but I think he does need to put on some weight so plus we have like the best coaching staff in the NBA so I’m not really worried about that I just think that he needs to be big the same way it’s kind of like what you just said a minute ago you need to abuse these guys in the paint use your size be big that’s why we drafted you be big dunk the ball slam the ball block shots that’s exactly what this Miami Heat team needs athleticism size and we need a bully the paint outside of bam at a bio yeah we do um it seems like basketball is kind of going back slightly to the like early 2000s where the big man is coming back a little bit there’s more um opportunities to play in the post in the paint and we saw this midseason I think it was after the All-Star break they stopped calling those Ticky teac horrible fouls just the NBA became so freaking soft like again I’m a kid I don’t want that I don’t want the 90s physicality to come back where you could like Clos line someone right but you saw Jimmy Butler getting to the line less and less and less and players like that because they were calling less um soft fouls you know in the paint they’re letting it be a little bit more physical which I actually do enjoy so having a guy like kalal who could potentially be physical especially when he gets those mismatches you know if he gets any small forwards or power forwards against him right now against a Joel embiid obviously Joker or any of the elite centers out there and just in general centers are a lot bigger than him the true centers not the ones that are like obviously undersized like bam at of Bio so guys like that against guys who are 69 610 he should be able to have an impact against them so let me ask you this too so there’s other guys obviously that did well um kha Johnson he’s interesting so he is probably one of our top Premier undrafted guys um along along with Zion um Poland and he did really well today too and it was pretty cool I got to sit next to his family yesterday so I was at the game and I saw a bunch of folks come up in a combination of Arizona and San Diego State um college jerseys at said Johnson on it and they were like three feet away from me and obviously cheering for kashad and I was able to talk to him and it his mom his dad his brother like his aunts they were all next to me so it was a cool experience getting to talk to them see their excitement rooting for their son and then obviously being Miami Heat fan so he is someone that is intriguing of course we talked about him defensively like he has shown in these two games that he could be a great on ball Defender he’s super athletic um had one steal today 13 points three rebounds three for four from three that’s the big key right there he’s not known for his shot but if he could be a three-point shooter he could be that three and D guy that can be replenished back in our system of undrafted folks like kayar who’s gone now like Haywood heith who hasn’t signed anywhere but is most likely gone so what are your thoughts on him kind of replacing Hayward and Caleb as someone who could possibly be one of our 15 because right now we waved Orlando Robinson today so we have 13 spots technically left we’re gonna have a hole if Haywood’s gone right you need someone what are your thoughts on him that man kashad Johnson he is nothing to play with it’s like what you said the athleticism the defense and he has that NBA body if he can get that three-point shot to be consistent yeah I think we honestly have another diamond in the rough because his IQ his feel for the game I just think that he has to brushing up just a little bit offensively the offensive package isn’t there but he can definitely be that three and D type guy that the Miami Heat need 100% yeah he he is just athletic he had the second highest vert I think in the combine and you know six that’s what we need bro we need someone that can dunk the ball like we don’t have enough like athletic guys and athletes on this Miami Heat roster we need guys that are gonna be steamrolling down the court and slamming the ball on somebody that’s what we need and he can guard up and down like if we’re going to put him as our small four like our small ball four at 66 like at least he’s 66 and not like 6’4 like the NBA body too yeah and he’s he’s huge like I saw him in person like he is athletic he’s strong he’s he’s gifted on the defensive end which is good he just needs to have the game slow down for him a little bit offensively and hit that wide open shot right we’re not going to expect or call plays for him obviously so I like him last person I want to talk to you about real quick before we Hop Off is uh pel Larson so played 18 minutes today four for n from the field one for one from three nine points six assists five rebounds two steals so filling up the stat sheet in limited minutes to a certain degree um but what are your thoughts on him like he had a tough game as everybody did obviously on on Saturday right we shot 20 like n% as a team scored 66 points total he only had eight points but it was like two for nine or something yesterday so how do you how do you feel about him um in his play so far he got that dog in him you know what I mean he’s a guy that can do a little bit of everything rebounding uh three-point shooting is Elite um the playmaking he can give you defense my thing about him is he has a high motor and to be on the Miami Heat that’s what you need you need a high motor and you listen this Miami Heat roster we need guys that can do multiple things and I think that’s exactly what he brings I think that as he develops he’s only going to get better but especially with him too the potential is definitely there yeah he he does have a high motor and it was good to see him uh penetrate and didn’t really finish a lot um in the paint but he was able to play downhill get to the rim got to the foul line hit some threes here and there um he is pretty athletic too he looks like kind of like a Max stru kind of replacement um he’s not as Elite of a three-point shooter as Duncan Robinson at this point but Duncan Robinson took time as we have seen to develop outside of a three-point specialist right like Duncan wasn’t able to move off ball um like in terms of cutting not like obviously on the three-point line he was obviously really good movement player but we see that he’s like cutting now well off ball he’s obviously able to put the ball on the ground a little bit distribute a little bit so I think he could kind of replace Max stru at this point potentially so we’ll see but I like him as a you know a second man Off the Bench um or third piece after I think he’ll probably be behind Duncan Robinson in the rotation realistically but he’s intriguing so good outing for this Miami Heat um summer league team I’m happy these guys were able to bounce back um you know it’s we’re going to take it game by game because it is summer league and these guys are either undrafted or second round picks and they have a high learning curve so you know one game could be amazing one game could be horrible we can’t base and judge their skill set and who they’re going to be in the NBA based off one game or two games it’s such a small sample size but either way thank you guys so much for watching today’s video again like I mentioned earlier in the video don’t forget to subscribe to to both of our channels and we’ll be back this week with more Miami Heat Chronicle episodes for you so thanks again Martel like share comment subsscribe

  1. Looks like a rookie year Jaren Jackson jr. With max upside Kevin Garnet gotta get the bad shot selection under control either way heck of a 15th pick

  2. I have a lot of optimism now, honestly. If this guy can work his way to a starter like Jovic did by the end of the year, I think we’re gonna be good.

I think Jovic is gonna blow minds with his improvements. I don’t feel as gung ho about Jaime, but I think he’ll improve his 3 ball and a little bit on defense.

I think Highsmith will show a lot of improvement too, and we just gotta go sign that man. He would be the only one we have that we can hound opposing guards with.

We need to trade Tyler for a much smaller contract, an expiring, or picks, anything to get started on cleaning up our books for the future.

    Other keys to our success:
Like you guys said, Ware puts on size and can reasonably defend centers one on one.

Bam develops a workable drive and kick game.

We lean much further into Jovic’s point guard skills.

For the first time, our size is going to be hard to deal with.

  3. I’ll trade Tyler for Lonzo. A healthy Lonzo ball is the exact player the team needs. I believe he’s on an expiring contract, so he’s helping us whether he gets injured or not.

But his advanced facilitating and defense is exactly what I would want on this team.

  4. Hola Amir. Cole Swider shot lights out 5/10 from 3 for 21 points. He's clearly the Duncan replacement. Also shot 47% from 3 last year in the G League. Ware of course I am not surprised with his ability one bit. That Dirk leg kick out fade away a thing of beauty. But my eye was on PG. I wrote to you a while back on your 2nd round/UDFA video you did and said to watch out for Isaiah Stevens. 5 year PG Colorado St left records in points, assists and 3 point FG made. He started today and easily outshined Pullin and Williams in a win. He was 4/5 from the field for 10 points, 2/2 from 3, and the eye popping stat of 7 assists including several lobs and passes to Ware and others. Like I said before and I will repeat right now. Stevens will solve our PG issue off the bench. He will set the table for all. I am sold on Stevens (not over Kolek 👍) but darn near close. Hopefully more Heat fans will jump on the Stevens bandwagon and enjoy his leadership as a floor general. The steal of the UDFA over Pullin and Johnson and maybe over second rounder Larsson all 3 who are legit to begin with. We got some serious players. Great job to Pat and this FO. ✌️

  5. A center who actually identified and took advantage of a mismatch with athleticism… who knew that was possible for a Heat center to do?!
