  1. He says that, either truly ignorant or deliberately misleading of fact that we were only a leverage play to get the Clippers to trade SGA.

  2. Decent_Pack_3064

there was no promises that Kawhi would had stayed for the long haul

  3. Imagine we sent the PG trade package instead of clippers. And it’s gonna be worse. Kawhi probably bails and head to LA anyway once he becomes FA

Regardless of how realistic it was (and it’s not realistic, OKC would have demanded Siakam and Masai was never going to trade Siakam that offseason), it’s interesting to think about. I think in that universe the Raptors probably repeat in the bubble the next year, but then injuries and Lowry’s aging prevent them from making any more noise.

Am I the only one that thinks Masai knew he was deliberately fucking overing the clippers by bidding them up so far? The package they gave up for PG has essentially crippled their player development pipeline.

I have a crazy feeling that he knew Kawhi was one and done.

“ KAwHI WAnTED to Go HOMe ” – man shut up. Nobody cares that he wanted to go home. Fact is he should have stayed and won chips. His uncle wasn’t gonna help him get rings, was he?!

  7. TheOtherUprising

I remember at the time it was reported that the Raptors reached out to see what it would take to get Paul George but OKC’s demands were way too high and considering what the Clippers were willing to give they had no incentive to come down and Masai was never going to overpay.

  8. Oshoninja

Don’t tease me like that. I’m trying to forget.

  9. Danny161616

This finally ends the myth that Kawhi never even considered returning to

  10. Radiant_Cobbler_9631

Kawhi wanted to be in Toronto but ballmer traded shai to get Pg

Put me in the small group that says Raps should have done any and everything to make that deal happen. Not because it would have brought more championships and because they’d have 4 more years of relevancy, there’s no guarantee of that… but it would have at least said that Toronto is a legit spot for FAs. Would have rewrote the whole narrative on the market. I mean we’re dealing with years of pain now anyways… would be nicer if that pain was the price for becoming a destination.

  12. Don’t understand why Kawhi needed PG they just won the chip why gut the team for PG and Westbrook?

  13. Icy-Lime-9760

Why are some people in here so mad? Some calling Paul George a liar.

Kawhi was choosing between teaming up with Paul George in LA or teaming up with Paul George in Toronto, Clippers upped their offer and had a better package than Toronto. Simple.

I believe back in the day it was a rumoured trade of Siakam, OG, Lowry for PG and Westbrook. Hell to the no.

  15. Big_Albatross_3050

Yeah Raps were used as leverage to get SGA, but it doesn’t change the fact that Bobby likely had a package in place with either Fred or Pascal.

If I could hazard a guess the Thunder probably wanted both with the unprotected picks and then the Clips caved and added SGA, making the rest history.

Hindsight glad the Raps didn’t do it, because a huge part of 2019 was having both Pascal and Fred go off in important games. Losing 1 for PG is manageable since it was PG, but both would’ve put them in the hamster wheel the Bucks are in right now with star power but not enough depth for when that star power isn’t firing on all cylinders

  16. Green-Umpire2297

Mlse doesn’t pay the tax. This never would’ve happened. Or if it did, we’d be out after one failed season.

  17. Hindsight isn’t 20/20 on this. Sure, we would’ve been favorites in the Bubble and I’d love to see us run it back. The 2019 team was so, so good — better than most recent championship teams, maybe outside the Celtics — and I’d have loved to give that core another chance to compete, they earned it.

But, we’d also be left bag-holding two players in their mid 30s who are injured every postseason. Who knows what would’ve happened. And, obviously Siakam would’ve been part of the deal. The last five years of PG are very similar in terms of production to Siakam, and Siakam has been way more available.

    Don’t know..

The real story was that Masai was helping the Thunder and screwing the Clippers over.

You will notice that Masai and Presti always talk and have done deals in the past. They seem to be friendly with each other. Masai also had a deal to get Giannis using the Thunder’s pick had Steven Adams not been available

  19. bakedlawyer

It was close in the sense that the deal was there

. But it was never one that the Raptors would have made so it wasn’t close st all

  20. Stgbanangie

No chance Masai had it in him to trade anyone from the championship team. All smoke, Kawhi was going back home one way or another

  21. ChampagneAbuelo

Hmmm depends on how many assets Toronto would have had to give up. I think Toronto would be able to make that move without giving up as many assets as LA Clippers did. If Toronto could have kept a decent amount of the core plus added PG and kept Kawhi, it would have worked out a lot better than the Kawhi x PG duo did in LA

Uncle Dennis got his bag and Balmer’s old PJ then faded into obscurity.
