Buddy Hield trade is official and grading the Golden State Warriors offseason so far

the six team trade that brings buddy heel to the Warriors is official we Deep dive on what his fit and role might be with his dubs team are they still in talks to possibly bring in a secondary score how would you grade the off season and finally Steph Curry opening up at Team USA basketball camp we cover all of that right now on lock on Warriors you are locked on War Warriors your daily Golden for the first time on lock on Warriors Ben Ross a Crown Sports Anchor reporter play-by-play broadcaster you’ve worked up in Sacramento for the AP NBC Sports and much more Ben very excited to have you on how’s how’s it going how’s your summer hey it’s going great kylin yeah it’s so good to finally be on and uh it’s funny I I feel like I’m just like following in your footsteps with all of my jobs take taking your old taking your old gig at kraw a couple years later we’ll just have a little competition like who has the longer resume and just like list all the different networks and like odd jobs that both of us have done also for folks who are unfamiliar like in the play-by-play World and freelance sporting World working game broadcast it’s like kind of how it goes like you do a little bit of everything right yes and I mean keeps it interesting right like I I actually love that it’s not the most stable thing in the world all the time but I it’s fun like you’re doing a little bit of everything it never gets boring exactly it keeps things interesting and we are going to keep things interesting here on the show lot to talk about still waiting for the words to make that big move for a secondary score I’m still keeping my fingers crossed and hopeful but on today’s show we are going to talk about the Buddy heel trade being made official I want to get Ben’s thoughts we talked about it on Friday’s show but haven’t really Dove deeper into it so we’ll get into that also just want to hear Ben’s overall rating and I’ll give you mine for the Warriors this offseason if another move isn’t made do you all think this dubs team got better got worse how would you grade the job the front office did and you can also drop your thoughts in the comments as well and then finally Steph Curry opened up on Klay Thompson’s departure talked about how he maybe ignored what clay asked him to do and not talked with the front office he also talked about much more at Team USA Basketball Camp with the media we’re covering all that I want to start with Buddy hee tradem official a historic six team trade and I literally have to get the exact like article up because it’s hard to memorize and keep all of it straight without buddy hee officially came to the Golden State Warriors uh six teams involved a lot of picks were being moved now I can’t find the article where I had it uh but let’s just get your reaction first Ben try to track it down I got a bunch of tabs up yeah but buddy hee comes to the Warriors really and this was now tied into Klay Thompson Moving on but really it was just for second round picks which maybe you’re okay with I mean what was your takeaway and upon hearing that the Golden State Warriors brought in buddy heel I think it’s a move that makes a lot of sense you know obviously losing Clay Thompson he’s not exactly a Klay Thompson replacement but he’s a guy who can shoot and spread the floor uh it’s funny because you know as you mentioned I I’ve worked up in Sacramento and I was at CBS sack for a couple of years yep and you know getting to watch him there for a bit you know they have an interesting relationship the Kings fans have a very interesting relationship with Buddy heeld and I think you know he frustrated a lot of them a lot of the time with you know maybe some of his turnovers and not always the smartest play but at the same time I think he was maybe being asked to do more there than he will be asked to do in this situation with the Warriors and so again he comes in as a guy maybe Off the Bench who can provide some shooting some scoring um he’s now been around the league he’s been on a few teams and I think it’s a move that makes sense again I don’t I don’t see him as necessar neily a Klay Thompson replacement just because you know I forgot who it was that one of those those NBA Muse type websites put out the you know the new Splash Brothers type tweet and I’m like come on that’s disrespectful that’s disrespectful I understand he look he’s a great shooter and he’s near the top of the league in three-pointers made but Klay Thompson obviously did a lot more but at the same time you know Clay as we know is a little bit older now coming off the injuries with Buddy heel to get a little bit younger and yeah so I like the move and um I think he definitely does help fill some of that void just on the offensive end of a guy who can space the floor and you know he’s a guy that you can’t double off of so he’s another guy who can hit some threes buddy heel the high volume shooter also high efficiency his best season right around 40% uh 200 plus made threes the last six seasons music to a lot of Dubs fans ears as they do lose half the Splash Brothers or we do lose in Klay Thompson moving on to the Dallas Mavericks it’s going to be a minute here but here is the exact list of pieces that went on the move that was a part of bringing buddy heel back to the Golden State Warriors the Mavericks received Klay Thompson a 2025 second round pick the Minnesota Timberwolves receive a 2025 second round 2031 second round pick swaps and cash Warriors receiv received Kyle Anderson so his deal actually got tied into this and Buddy heeled the Nuggets received cash the Hornets received Josh Green Reggie Jackson a 2029 second round pick and a 23rd 30 second round pick will the 76ers receive a 2031 second round pick I do want to give some love to the front office I’ve been critical of some of the negotiations and pieces that have gone on um but I do want to give the front office some love for the fact that they’ve gotten creative the Warriors have been you know just their hands have been tied due to the cap situation and being you know strapped to the second apron not having a lot of room to go continue to go above the luxury tax and it’s something that Joe L has talked about like at some point it has to end in terms of how much this is spending so I think it’s tough but they’ve cobbled together sort of a Klay Thompson replacement when you look at in and DeAnthony Melton a good Defender a buddy heeld who’s a great offensive player three-point shooter at least floor and then slowmo who brings in some of that as well and you know a good Defender also um but in general how would you rate how the front office has done so far yeah I I I’m kind of with you I think those moves all make sense and I think they do help fill the void of losing a Klay Thompson I think what I do like about the moves is they get younger uh and perhaps a little bit more athletic which is sort of the you know where they want to be heading and where the rest of the league is heading um and I do like the you know DeAnthony Melton I think that’s a good under the radar Type move a three and D guy Kyle Anderson a veteran who’s another good Defender so I I like all those moves but yeah it it is a little bit tough for me to to grade the offseason if if this is all they do I think it’s got to be seen as overall sort of a disappointment BEC just because they didn’t get you know any of the big names that they were they were looking for and you know another guy to go along with Steph we were talking before like who’s the second best player we still don’t really know that was sort of the issue last year who was the next guy behind Steph and I feel like they’re still sort of in that spot so as far as a grade at this point you know I’m kind of looking in that c range maybe a C+ um um just because again they did get creative and I think all of those pieces that they’ve added will contribute um but at the same time you know did they really get much better than last year you know I I kind of look at them as constructed right now as good probably a playoff team but I you know with their current roster I don’t see them as a title Contender and I think that’s obviously the goal that’s the thing none of these moves move the needle for me in terms of this team really elevating themselves out of being like a first or maybe second round playoff team because I think with Draymond Green healthy last year that’s where they realistically should have been at I hate the play in because one games two games it can be easy to get knocked out versus getting an opportunity in a seven game series which is why it’s so important to avoid the play and I think they maybe could have had Draymond Green not missed a large quantity of games that he missed because we saw how much the defensive efficiency moved up when he was back and I do feel like right now based on the roster the team is similar maybe a little bit better but I just don’t see a clear answer to that secondary score and to me that was the biggest issue with the Warriors last year there is no one aside from Steph who can consistently score upwards of 20 plus points a night and their second score last year second lead leading score was Klay Thompson with 18 a night and he’s not back on the roster buddy heeled you can play in certain rotations and he definitely can add that floor spacing ability but you can’t start him because the defensive liability I think pretty much across the board at this point everyone’s looking at him is coming in off the bench DeAnthony Melton not going to do as much in terms of the perimeter shooting but a much better Defender do you start DeAnthony Mountain do you start a Brandon Pensky again this is all assuming that no moves happen folks um which is what the Warriors have been talking about and seeming like they want to do because pods did start for Klay Thompson this past season when Klay got moved to the bench right around the All-Star Break um so looking at that lineup that’s the same it’s the same starting five that we saw last season what makes you think you’re going to have significantly different results just changing the bench and I do think that depth is super important but you have to have a reliable secondary score and I want to get more of your take on that here coming [Music] up it’s been fun getting to talk and ponder about the NBA season but man I can’t wait for sports to be back in full swing I love them you never want them to stop but as the playoffs have wrapped up in the NBA fewer games and the sports just aren’t sporting like we like them toel but FanDuel lets you keep the sports going whenever you want all you have to do is the open the app and come up with some bets that you can use to make maybe watching Major League Baseball or watching the WNBA more interesting this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or a bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every day all season long and I dove into some of the Major League Baseball opportunities that are out there on FanDuel today looking for a big outing from Max Scherzer and the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night that’s a play that I like sherzer has been very solid in his return to the mound but has yet to have a really Dynamic start this is going to be it I’m feeling it take the Run line at minus one and a half it’s even odds and it seems like a value against the Angels so there’s something you could go with if you’re looking to make a play today but no matter what day it is what sport you’re trying to watch to get you through the NBA offseason make sure you go on over to fanduel.com FanDuel the official sports betting partner of Major League [Music] Baseball so I want to dive more into the issue of who’s going to be the secondary score so at this point again this is all saying that the roster doesn’t change we will touch on and I’ll give you a little update on the latest on the Lowry marinin race or sweep Stakes last report that came out over the weekend was that the Warriors made a significant offer they threw in a lot of picks or at least what they have available the issue is the Warriors don’t have the most future picks of any team that might be bidding for him so we’ll have to see what happens but no major news as of this episode being recorded on Monday afternoon um so that begs the question who is going to step up and be that secondary score do you think Jonathan kaminga has that potential and can make that big of a leap this season to surpass the 20-point plateau I actually do um you know I I like Jonathan kaminga a lot and I feel like he his Improvement is has been so rapid like we knew that the athleticism and the talent was there right from the beginning he’s just a guy who was was raw and needed more basketball experience and I I feel like uh he made Big Time strides last year you know shooting above 50% from the field was really impressive just as far as um how efficient he was so I do think he’s ready to take that next step and I I’m excited to see his his year getting more consistent playing time um I mean I think maybe that’s one of the the Silver Linings of losing a guy like Klay Thompson is it just if nothing else it creates opportunities for more playing time for a guy like Jonathan kaminga obviously you talked about Brandon Brandon pky who who was also really impressive last year and I think he’s I think he’s uh primed to to take another leap as well um so I’m really looking at those two guys as far as you know filling some of that scoring void but yeah if I had to take my pick i’ I’d say kaminga can and will average 20 points uh or better this season I really like I’m expecting a big year from him and you know we it’s funny because we saw uh France Vagner get that big contract extension from Orlando I feel like kaminga is now sort of eyeing that and and I think he’s capable of you know of reaching that level as well so I’m excited to see what he does this year I think he’s going to take another leap I feel confident that Jonathan Kinga is going to take a leap is it going to be a big enough leap for him to be the reliable secondary score that’s where I just don’t feel confident saying that yet this past year he was at times like he went through incredible stretches and he’d kind of have dips I still see a little bit of the mental lapses like on the defensive side of the ball I still see some room for maturity and growth and he’s a young player still so that is something we have to keep in mind just in terms of the mentality piece you saw throughout the season you know he talks to the Press about not playing and and you know being maybe critical or doubting Steve Kerr he did hang his head at times on the bench like I feel like there are times that I saw him mope a little bit and that’s where I think you know you get a young player who’s not maybe getting what they want or the minutes they feel like they deserve and you have to work through that and you have to continue to bring it every day oses Moody is a great example of like having that extra level of maturity and I feel like I don’t know that Jonathan kaminga is like a 100% there yet so one of my questions is just like can he lock in mentally and bring it to the next level that way because we know the skill set is there like to me the athleticism everything that you see like the potential to be an elite player the potential to be a secondary scorer has been there like that’s why the Warriors drafted him that’s why so many people fans and folks around the organization are so keen on keeping him because everyone sees the potential like what’s it going to take for him to reach his full potential to me like a lot of it’s mental I don’t know if that’s something that you saw or would take away at all as well yeah I I think that’s fair and I think the you know he’s he’s still just 21 years old so as far as from a mental standpoint you know that’s probably not uncommon for for somebody that young to sure to deal with some of those struggles but I I think the points you make are totally valid you know the one area that I I want to see him take a jump obviously is is his shooting um yeah you know I feel like he took a step back last year just as far as did know 32% three-point range the year before he was at 37% uh he did improve his free throw shooting which was good to see but you know I’m sure that’s something he’s been working on all offseason long and as we know in the NBA today you’ve got to be able to shoot from the outside uh no matter how athletic you are and and like you said I think um defensively I I want to see him not have those mental lapses just be more consistent and locked in and and hopefully he can also take that that mental Next Step but you know what I I I think he can and I think he just the fact that he’s going to be relied on for more this year and counted on more and get more consistent playing time I think he’s ready for it so we’ll see um but I’m expecting a really big allaround year from him the fourth year in the NBA is the time where in interview Steph Curry Draymond Green have said they felt like they made the biggest leap they were able to impact winning the most because you just have adjusted to the league you learn the system especially if you’ve been with the Warriors throughout that time like they both were and Jonathan kaminga has been to where you feel comfortable you feel like you’ve adjusted to the game you know what’s expected of you as a professional and then you can go out and perform so hopes are high I also for Trace Jackson Davis as we look at this roster constructed as is like I said I’m disappointed if we don’t add a big piece but I do think there still are a ton of young players that I’m really excited about yeah I I don’t know that just relying on those individuals to improve is going to be enough again to get the Warriors out of like a second round playoff team but I do think there’s a lot to be excited about for dubs fans and Trace Jackson Davis Brandon Bey and Moses Moody is a name we haven’t talked about yet have been adamant that I think he could be a starting two guard I see the potential yes for three and D I get that but I just like that he has a little bit more size and to me a better Defender than a Brandon psky um but looking at those three other young players what kind of seasons are you looking for from them and what has been your evaluation of their progression that we’ve seen so far I I’m with you on Moses Moody you know I I right Moody he has shown I’ve wanted to see him get more consistent playing time because he has shown in limited time that he can really be a Difference Maker on both ends and again that’s one of the other you know sort of Silver Linings of losing at Klay Thompson and is it just does open uh that type of opportunity for perhaps a Moses moody or you know we we already know Brendan pky is probably more sturdy I think in the rotation um I like both likes him Steve Kerr loves running a small lineup a small back he does I’ll tell you what small I do like I like Trace Jackson Davis a lot too and you know I think everything we were talking about with kaminga it’s sort of the opposite with Trace Jackson Davis from a from a not just a mental standpoint but like he is he came in NBA ready he’s already polished uh just from you know I think he spent you know he spent his four years at Indiana he was oh yeah collegiate career exactly and and so I think that really helped him you know you can just see he sees the game really well and then I think he you know he’s he’s more athletic than than people realize uh we’ve seen him do some things on both ends of the floor I think he’s another really good piece so I do I see all three of those guys taking another step um but I’m with you also I feel like the question is is that enough to take this Warriors team to the next level we’ll see I I could see this team maybe showing signs of of Rapid Improvement toward the second half of the year you know there there’s a lot of young pieces like that where and again it’s going to be some new rotations and and take some getting used to you know not having a Klay Thompson but if I had to if I had to pick one roster over the other I I do think this is a more improved roster than last year the question is how much and I think that will come down to what do those young guys bring and what type of consistency do they bring are they ready to be contributors every single night well that’s my one big issue with this roster build as is in addition to needing a reliable secondary score I would have loved to see them bring in another Center or another really true big I know Anderson technically plays forward slow-mo whatever um but I still would like to see them bring in another high level big I love Trace Jackson Davis but like do you think that he’s ready to realistically start at the five on a team that is going to be a contender um and just in general like I still feel like there could be more front Court depth if you look at the way this roster is built now it’s very back cour heavy a lot of guards and to me that’s one thing I would like to see Steve ker get out of is this small ball lineup clearly it didn’t work and obviously we know it came from the championship runs he you know thought outside the box and started doing that throwing Draymond Green at the five was it back in 2015 or 16 and to me though you have to recognize when times have changed and to me times have changed and I don’t think they can go with a small ball anymore but you didn’t really get any bigger this off season I mean I guess you add Quenton post a rookie but like how much can you expect from a rookie right late to see them add a big yeah I mean I think they could definitely I think they could definitely afford to add one more experience big I mean you’re right I mean I I think right now they’re relying they’re going to rely on playing a lot of small ball and I think they’re going to also rely on you know Kavon Looney and um and Trace Jackson Davis and I mean is that going to be enough we’ll see um but again you know I do think that’s you know I think the small ball lineup can still work it’s just a matter of what can you get from a guy like Kyle Anderson you know because he he is say what you will about slow-mo he’s a he’s a pretty versatile guy who can fill you know almost every position uh which I like um I I think what I want to see more from Steve CER though and I think that kind of goes to what you were saying is like the I want to see more of a willingness to adapt based on what’s Happening like if the small ball lineup isn’t working one night I he can I feel like he can get stuck in some of his same rotations and and you know obviously it worked for this franchise for so long but I do want to see a little bit more of a willingness to adapt and sort of change things up from night to night you know depending on the matchups are you going to go small ball are you going to start Draymond at the five maybe other nights you want to go with Looney at the five and you know Trace Jackson Davis I want to see him play 25 minutes some night so um but I’m with you I mean I think they could certainly afford one more big man to me that’s not as big a concern as what we were talking about earlier which is who’s the who’s the number two do they have an established number two option behind Steph Curry and you know it you know we know they wanted Paul George that didn’t happen uh Markin in I don’t know will they make another move it’s not looking like it at this point but we’ll have to just wait and see I’ll give a quick update on the latest report that came out this weekend on marketing here in one [Music] moment you know what they say comparison is the thief of Joy but it’s so hard in the social media era not to compare yourself not to look at what other people are doing on social media Med seeing the photos or videos of course everyone puts out there a certain image a certain way they want their life to look to other people but you never really know what’s going on behind closed doors and everyone struggles with something we have our all have our own individual things that we’re dealing with in our lives and sometimes that stress can become overwhelming it can be a lot to deal with today’s world is so fast-paced there’s so much pressure and one thing to consider if you’re thinking about therapy is giving better help a try it’s entirely online designed to be convenient flexible and suited to your schedule you just fill out a brief questionnaire to get matched with a licensed therapist and you can switch therapists at any time for no additional charge so stop comparing and start focusing on yourself and how you can get better with better help visit betterhelp.com lockon NBA to get 10% off your first month that’s betterhelp.com locked on NBA once again don’t go comparing yourself just try to figure out how you can get better and better help is an awesome way to do [Music] that before I get into the marke and trade or potential trade situation one thing I did want to mention is that I’m on the same page with you that I think the young players could make significant jumps I don’t necessarily feel like the roster got significantly better but maybe a little bit better because I think getting younger is important to being able to go with a small ball lineup because you have to be able to run the floor and last year for example they added Chris Paul who’s a halfcourt point guard so I’m like it kind of was a head scratcher to me to where it’s like well if you want to keep going small and we don’t have the biggest roster in the NBA but then you’re adding older players who are known to be slower players that want to work in the half court offense like what are we doing here the Warriors last season saw major degression I don’t even know if that’s a word but they they slipped majorly in terms of Fast Break points and transition points part of that I think is from some of their defensive deficiency genes because you have to be able to get stops to create transition um and to get fast break points as well but also like to me the pieces just weren’t adding up so that’s why I think getting younger getting more athletic is positive if they’re not going to be the bigger team but like in general I just would like to see the Warriors get bigger and get younger I feel we’re kind of getting there we’re getting towards the being a younger team um but in regards to the Lowry marinin trade potential still no huge updates again this is as of Monday afternoon we’re recording this right around 1 2:00 Pacific ific time folks so it’s hard to keep up with the NBA news cycle right now with these recordings because it’s just like new reports are coming out by the hour it’s nuts but it was reported over the weekend that according to Tony Jones who covers the Utah Jazz for the Athletics the Warriors extended a substantial offer for lry marinin he suggested that yes there are still hurdles to clear but said that it is a serious offer that the Jazz should or are considering the thing that Jones said complicates it is the fact that the Warriors only have two unprotected picks plus a protected first rounder he also said that on 957 the game Jones did in speaking to some of our local hosts in the Bay Area so the Warriors are seriously making moves which I love to hear I love Markin in’s game you got a seven fo footer who can shoot the three ball at 40% what you hope is a reliable secondary score coming off an NBA All-Star season we still just don’t know that whole trade situation is hanging in the balance I honestly like just tell me when something’s happened there was like a report last week on Thursday or Friday and it was like there was a 10% chance according to so and so that lry marinin is gonna be traded the next day lri marinin is likely gonna be traded I’m like I can’t yoss this a lot of people are along the same sentiments as me I’m like I want off the roller coaster ride just let me know when something’s actually happening yeah I mean that’s that’s NBA offseason in a nutshell right there’s like all of this stuff up and down and these percent it chances and yeah who knows I mean it’s fun it’s fun sometimes to to look at these things and it it keeps you busy but I’m with you it’s there’s so many of these rumors out there that it’s hard to really know uh what’s legit and what actually is going to happen right so that’s the thing read into that what you will Tony Jones who covers the Jazz for the Athletics says that the Warriors did make a substantial offer but Danny a just said he really wants picks and they want to find those future building block if they’re going to let go of their star who could potentially be a centerpiece to build a young team around instead you have the option of hey maybe move him off and get a multitude of picks it’s been reported that’s what he’s looking for and that’s where the Warriors don’t maybe have as much to offer as other teams as he just pointed out um really quickly want to touch on something that came out from USA Basketball Camp awesome to see Steph Curry with Team USA he’s talked about how much it would mean to him to bring home gold maybe cap off all of the awards and different medals and things that he’s won in his career would be to win that Olympic gold medal and Team USA is stacked so it’s kind of ridiculous like if they don’t win gold that’s insane once again had Coach T cerr back in his coaching role but there was something that Steph Curry talked about regarding the Klay Thompson situation that I wanted to bring up he did open up in talking to the media about Klay Thompson’s departure obviously very tough for him it’s something he was upfront about he mentioned I feel like I’m gonna go back though to preseason camp and like all of a sudden klay’s just going to be there like it still doesn’t feel real a little bit because like yeah you know Clay sometimes he’s off voting like over the summer you don’t hear from him a period of time and then you just walk in a camp and there he is like so he said it’s still a little bit surreal which is understandable but one thing Steph Curry did say is that he ignored Klay Thompson’s requests to have Steph not interfere with negotiations and use his influence and Power in trying to force the hand of the Warriors front office Steph ignored that and he did say in an interview with the athletic specifically that he spoke to the front office and said I want clay back he did give them a dollar amount but was like listen I want this to happen try to make this happen obviously it didn’t come to fruition I just kind of Wonder like a Steph side eye in the front office after that you know and the way things ended um a lot of different again this situation where a lot of different reports that come out come out about exactly what the dynamic was like how much of this was a Klay Thompson’s decision how much of this was the Warriors kind of giving him the little push out doing a little situation almost as how it’s been described any concerns about Steph’s relationship with the front office in light of that departure honestly probably not I mean I could see Steph being a little bit upset about it but like Steph is just a guy who gets it you know in every area he’s just he he gets it and I think that he he understands the business side of things and I’m sure he’s disappointed um but at the same time even even if he is a little bit upset about it like you’ll never see it from him you’ll never hear it from him he’s going to go out there and he’s such a good leader that you know he’s gonna go out there still and I think be just such a great mentor to some of these young guys and and still put up a great season um so I feel like he’s the one guy you just you don’t have to worry about now I it is tough I think that maybe he is a little bit upset about losing clay but I do think that he’s a he’s such a smart guy that he he know he’s been in the league for so long he just he understands how it works and I’m sure he’s talked to Clay and I’m sure he knows a lot of stuff that we don’t know um and it just you got the sense watching the whole Klay Thompson Saga all offseason and really even from last year like that this is this was probably coming so I I think we had some advanced warning and I think uh you know once we get to once we actually get into training camp in the season I think I think he’s gonna be fine as the offseason for the Warriors anyway progressed like during the NBA playoffs they’re keping reports coming out that like negotiations weren’t moving forward and I’ve been saying all along I’m like I don’t think lay Thompson is coming back like I agree that’s kind of to me what the writing was on the wall and it felt that way even from the outside and it sounds like on the inside with the Warriors continuing to say hey hold on hey we can’t do anything hey we can’t make any moves yeah it definitely felt like this was the direction things were going and what was needed for both sides one thing I will say is that I was a little bit critical of some of the reports that came out that Joe Lake was maybe icy or just you know very distant in terms of negotiations and not reassuring play like yes we want you back or being a little bit more proactive um because the Warriors did want to wait and see what they could do in the off season but also Ramona shelburn article in out of ESPN last week I think shed some light in the fact that like this also was time for Klay Thompson like he talked about or she talked about how he said you know he’s lost the joy of game a little bit and that sometimes a fresh start a new environment can be the best thing for a player who’s in a rut or in a head space like that and the more I thought about it the more I felt like watching Klay Thompson up close these last two years and I don’t know if you’ll Echo these sentiments Ben because I know you’ve covered the team from a variety of outlets but he definitely didn’t look happy he wasn’t his usual free-spirited self to the fullest degree we saw it in moments but I definitely felt like he wore the frustration and he wore this burden to me the last two years just curious if you noticed anything about his demeanor in covering the team oh yeah I mean absolutely I I think you could just see it literally with his interaction with the media like and it’s not like players are obligated to to be nice and friendly with the media but that’s just how playay always was and I think you could you could sense the frustration in some of his press conferences you know he he got kind of annoyed with questions he would get annoyed with certain media members um you could tell like he I think he was annoyed coming off the bench for those handful of games where he came off the bench so yeah I I and I think he even admitted at points that he had sort of lost a little bit uh of the joy and it it was sort of adding up and you know I I do think I I I hope that for Klay Thompson this Fresh Start helps him out and like gets him back to a place where you know he’s never going to be the same player he was obviously he’s 34 years old now and he’s had those injuries but I think it’s a really good situation for him where you know he you talk about a floor spacer for for Kyrie Irving and Luca donic and and the rest of the Mavericks team like that’s a guy who who really could add a lot both on the court and just with his experience and his leadership so yeah I I I hope and think that it is a good move for Klay Thompson and and hopefully this reset helps him sort of refine the joy I think I think a lot of it too as you talked about was like the pressure of knowing that this might be coming last year like is this you know is this his last year as a warrior and and the pressure of not going out you know playing poorly and and having that type of frustration and so I think now a lot of that pressure is gone um and he can just kind of start over and and start the second chapter of his career I think it’s all positive all love from the dubs fan base that’s what I’ve seen in terms of the outpouring for Klay Thompson over the last week or so and of course I’m on the same along the same lines and wishing him the best hoping like you said Ben that this new Leaf will lead to great things for him with the Mavericks he doesn’t have the pressure of needing to be the secondary scorer either because as you pointed out you’ve got a Luca you’ve got a Kyrie coming simplify Your Role maybe take some of the pressure off and this is a team that just went to the NBA finals so you’re in a great spot in terms of being with a competitor so happy for him excited for him we’ll kind of wrap up discussions about him hopefully no other major news comes out regarding Klay Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors but just did want to touch on the last couple words from Steph as the Splash Brothers officially go their separate ways it’s a The six-team trade that brings shooting guard Buddy Hield to the Golden State Warriors was reportedly formalized over the weekend. It remains to be seen fi the Warriors will make a significant trade for a secondary score. If there is not more movement, how would you grade the Warriors offseason? Are they better off than they were at this time a year ago? KRON 4 Sports Anchor/Reporter and Associated Press writer Ben Ross joins Kylen Mills to discuss on Locked On Warriors.

  1. Get rid of Wiggins NOW! He is an erratic flake. Jimmy Butler on Wiggins: " Ain't NO dog in that guy"

  2. Is this joke we still playing ? Buddy hill, & K don’t do shit not enough fire power we need actually 2 solid scorers consistent so we far behind ! This is joke we still make a video of buddy hill!!!! Really !!!!! League has beyond move to next level we need Paul George caliber player!!! GM suck’s should be fired!!!!!

  3. As a Dubs fan since 2006 I can’t rate them yet as of now.I’ve to see their chemistry in their first 20 games. Then will see if they are a playoff contender this coming season

  4. I don't know who either of these people are, but they've clearly been spoiled the the Warriors success. I trust Steve Kerr and the team. They'll be a playoff team next season for sure and we'll see what more will happen after free agency.

  5. All the hand wringing that they haven't "replaced" Klay is coming from a perspective as if Klay was still the player he was before his injuries. Klay is not a starter any more. If he had stayed with the Dubs he would have come off the bench…same role as Hield. Turning Klay into Hield, SloMo, and Melton is a huge coup! There's also little doubt that Podz, TJD, and JK will all be better in the coming season. With Denver and Minny getting worse, I expect a top 4 seed for the Warriors. I would not be surprised at all if they also got significant contributions from Waters and possibly Post.

  6. Dray gas lighting caused Wiggens regressions. Andrew is a natural 2… how did klay get worn down. Kerr's gut instincts😂

  7. Splash Buddies… Buddy has made more than any other player in the NBA and shot a better percentage than Klay so let's give Buddy some credit

  8. Andrew Wiggins is going to have a legit bounce back year . I do believe Kuminga will be the 2nd leading scorer. Wiggins will be available and defender consistent scorer for us . Moody Podz TJD will all be much improved

  9. I don't think Warriors will get Markannen because Ainge wants way too much. Dunleavy needs to trade away Wiggins and Looney in a package tho! Both those guys didn't help the team at all last season

  10. Two people forget Kaminga had 20+ games in a row of 20 more points, on 60 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3. That sounds like a second scorer and if they design the offense more around him, the sky is the limit. This team is much better than last year. Championship, hard press to see that but I didn’t see 2022 either. Strength in numbers

  11. hopefully no more comment about lauri trade. too many suitors so the price will be too high. most of those clowns will be ok to trade kuminga, another player and 5 1st round picks for lauri…. kuminga's production is not that far off from lauri. younger and clearly a biggest upside. that might be the same guys that posted "we need a big" all the time, while the warriors have been the most successful team in the nba for 10 years while having the smallest roster. in the meantime, the warriors was not that far off from the best teams in the west roster wise. we got some coaches, that made wonders with some lesser rosters. the jazz 2 years ago for instance. its coach Kerr needs to step it up.

  12. DO NOT put Podz in the starting lineup, he’s not ready. It will be the determinant of our season. We need Moody @ that 2 spot.
