As if the Spurs wouldn’t just be real with Wemby and say we’re bringing in some vets for now but the long term plan is to use assets to go after great fits and to allow us to keep adding talent when you’re on your Supermax and the team is expensive.

This is very weird reporting lol

No I think the spurs legit feel they’re are better. They did everything they realistically could do. They can’t force Utah to trade with them. They where able to get vets and collect picks. There are teams that did diddly squat. Because they weren’t able to do those things and be opportunistic. I didn’t love the value they got for the 8th pick. But it was always understandable why they did it. Harrison Barnes is better then who ever they could have gotten at 8. It’s not sexy and it doesn’t leave much for the imagination and it’s probably boring to some. But it’s the truth.
The spurs are better and they did in a somewhat low key and spursian way. Which pisses the narrative drivers at ESPN off.

The idea that the Spurs are trying to trick Wembanyama with these moves is just utterly stupid.

Sports media is such a joke. Guys are jumping through hoops to try to put a wedge between Wemby and the Spurs because they want him to play in LA lmao.

The media desperately trying to make the Spurs less boring.

Pretty sure Wright just tells Wemby the truth. Wright might have to come out publicly telling the media and us that the goal is to be better because if he doesn’t or just says nothing then front office gets a lot of heat from media and casual fans that don’t understand how the league works but he can just be honest with Wemby and the team
Wemby isn’t a moron, he knows and understands these things take time even if it isn’t exactly ideal to him as I’m sure he’d love to be winning already

Anyone still harping on the 8th pick trade is an idiot. The Spurs clearly didn’t love anyone available 8th in a weak draft, the move didn’t hurt them at all in the short term since rookies are almost never difference makers, and it gave them more assets to get a star down the line. It was a very simple move, with obvious and reasonable motivation behind it.
And the Spurs *are* better. Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes are meaningful upgrades, and they absolutely hurt the Spurs’ ability to tank this year…because they can honestly say they’re not tanking.
Pretty bad analysis from Windhorst honestly.

Spurs are undeniably better than last season. Adding Harrison Barnes and even a near 40 yr old CP3 is a big upgrade. Hell even if the Spurs made zero moves, a sophomore Wemby would’ve made the Spurs better by default.
However, I don’t think the Spurs are going to be a playoff team as hard as it is to admit. But that has nothing to do with if they got better or not (cause they absolutely did!) and has more to do with how insanely good the Western conference is right now.

What a weird take, we are better? lol. Playoffs? Idk but better

The goal with this roster should be to get Wemby up from just 29mpg last year to 36mpg this year. If we can get Wemby at 36mpg for 70+ games this team can make a run at the playoffs.
5 minutes is an eternity in the NBA, you can win/lose games in that span. 39yr old Lebron had to play 35mpg & they needed EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of him on that court to barely make the playoffs.
I mean you can imagine if Luka went from 37 to 29mpg, how many games they’d drop, they’d probably be in the lotto.
Castle in particular is very important in this process, he can really spare Wemby’s legs in the starting lineup. Having a POA defender who can also run PG to help take the load off Wemby is a godsend.

The only wink and nod goes to the media. They’re the ones insisting the Spurs need to be great NOW for Wemby’s sake. Everyone has their own expectations but I trust our front office until they give me a blatant reason not to.

Wasn’t this guy saying the Lakers were better last summer? That they were going to be a contender for the title? Gtfoh

I mean, just look at the facts. We got more tangible assets for the future and have competent line ups and depth mow.

CP3, Vassell, Barnes, Sochan, Wemby
Jones, Castle, Champagnie, KJ, Collins
Those line ups aren’t dog water anymore!
In the West, I’m calling 30-36 wins.
