Anthony Milton and traded for Buddy Hill as the Warriors appear to have a plan in place to get back to being title contenders post Klay Thompson and there are four key reasons as to why Golden State haven’t closed their Championship window just yet the first reason is undoubtedly because of Stephen Curry over the two season stretch where Steph won backto back and M VPS and led the Golden State Warriors to two NBA Finals he averaged these numbers the lack of MVP consideration over the last four seasons would lead you to believe that Curry is a far worse player than he was in 2016 however there’s an argument to be made that the opposite is true from the 2020 season to now Curry has averaged 28 points per game along with becoming a better rebounder but more importantly he’s far superior defense but at the end of the day it’s his gravity that makes Stephen Curry the most dangerous from his offb actions to generating open looks for teammates Steph still demands the same attention here Looney sets a screen for curry off ball and when Caruso and Harold both go to Curry they give up an open dunk for Looney here all Steph needs to do is just run up near Draymond as everybody forgets about Looney again playing with Steph is so easy as here Tuscano Anderson gets the easiest look he’s ever had and when you rewind and slow it down you can really get an idea of just how dangerous Curry is away from the ball this might be the most egregious case of Stephan Curry’s gravity as here nobody body is in the same postcode as Kelly UB with curry being this dangerous without the ball he just needs to be on the court and the Warriors offense becomes Elite here cber and vny Smith are so concerned about Curry’s outside shooting that they allow an open dunk Curry isn’t just moving though as here he sets a back screen on Booker which puts Mel Bridges out of position for a Wigan slam on this play he sets the back screen on donic allowing an easy finish from Kelly UB Dron green has been the perfect partner in crime for step over all of these years as their connection on the court is simply Irreplaceable Draymond can either set Curry up for three or as he does here fake the hand off and get some of his own and these are not oneoff plays as here Draymond gets right to the cup after faking a handoff to play alongside Stephen Curry the Warriors just need role players that can make open shots and play solid defense and if they can do that Golden State will always be somewhat competitive the second reason how Golden State have extended their Championship window is because of the new additions even though the warriors were not able to bring back Klay Thompson and failed to acquire Paul George they still have made some key moves first signing the former starting shooting guard on the 76ers De Anthony mton mton wasn’t able to see much time on the court last season dealing with injuries but if we look back at his 2023 season he was crucial to the Sixers success shooting 39% from three while playing hard defense picking up 1.6 steals per game also DeAnthony Melton is an effective point of attack Defender and will cash in on open looks here with Atlanta out in transition he doesn’t give up on the play coming up with the block on Murray Melton can shoot off the catch in transition and off the dribble he also has a high vertical allowing him to rebound well for his size and make plays like this but the move that has the NBA media buzzing is the trade for Buddy heeld over the last five seasons buddy heeld and Stephen Curry have ranked first and second in threo is made showcasing their incredible shooting skills however the addition for healed isn’t what the metor is making it out to be buddy held simply isn’t a straight swap for Klay Thompson but he isn’t that far off either if we’re talking Prime Klay Thompson buddy held’s nowhere close but what we’re really talking about is current Klay Thompson and that’s where buddy heeld can potentially be even better buddy heeld is one of the more versatile defenders in the NBA despite playing on a poor defensive team in Indiana at the start of last season and not getting much playing time in Philadelphia he hasn’t been a bad defender in fact he was one of the pac’s bright spots on defense for four straight seasons on weak defensive teams his presence on the court has improved their performance the defensive numbers in the last column below from cleaning the glass show this now why is Buddy hild a verse tile Defender buddy held may not excel at guarding any single position but he has the foot speed strength and energy to defend players ranging from Donovan Mitchell to Kevin Durant making them work for their shots this ability is rare and a big reason why he’s a much better Defender Than People realize when buddy held has been asked to run an offense he hasn’t been spectacular but he’s been more effective than expected even off the ball he’s a good passer with an assist percentage around 15 to 20% over the last 3 to 4 years the main year he was asked to take on more on Bard duties was his first season with the Pacers where he averaged around five assists per game and played a significant role on an unexpectedly efficient offense with the loss of Chris Paul he may be asked to run more on Bard offense with golden state and he will be able to do that if called upon however with Draymond Green still being an effective playmaker I wouldn’t expect to see too much of this from him buddy Hill at this stage of his career is still extremely underrated as he’s often just seen as a shooter but in reality he’s a versatile Defender a solid secondary passer and consistently makes his teams better when he’s on the court the third reason why Golden State will be better next season is because of the likely improvement from Jonathan kaminga when Golden State were in trade discussions surrounding Paul George it was first thought that the Clippers were just being petty not wanting to make Golden State better as they gave up their Superstar for nothing instead however this actually wasn’t the case as reports are now coming out that the real reason behind the deal not getting done was due to the war is not wanting to include Jonathan kaminga in a trade in the coming years this decision will either be looked upon as a horrible mistake or a master stroke now personally I don’t think this was a horrible decision I mean Paul George hasn’t exactly delivered in the playoff for the Clippers recently either being injured or just underperforming and as for kaminga he’s had a great start to his career if we take the first three seasons of his career and put them side by side with the first three seasons of the career of yanus answerto TMO they look very similar now I’m not saying that Jonathan kaminga is the next coming of Yannis but when Yannis was drafted in the NBA he was a very raw talent only averaging 6.8 points per game in year one then in year two he up those numbers to 12.7 points and by year three he was averaging 16.9 points per game this is important because over the next three seasons jannis would average over 20 points per game each season becoming a rising star in this league then after that he would win multiple MVPs a defensive player of the year and become a champion with the current timeline kaminga is on he’s entering his fourth season which is where jannis began to assert himself as a real star in the NBA if Jonathan kaminga can even accomplish half of what Yannis has done the Warriors would have made the right choice with golden state not trading Jonathan kaminga they clearly still believe that he could develop into a superstar in this league and personally I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest that if JK can give the dubs 228 and 5 like Yannis did in year four this will go a long way to Golden State playing late into May and June the fourth reason why I believe the dubs Dynasty has a chance to write one last chapter is because of what other great teams around the NBA look like last season the two1 seeds in each conference were the Boston Celtics and the OKC Thunder both these teams were Elite defensively and offensively but the main aspect of their games that made them so successful was their three-point shooting with the Warriors new additions and the players they still have on the roster they could be an elite defensive team while knocking down their triples at a high ratees which could seeed them being an elite team next season with Draymond Green coming off the best shooting season of his career making 39% of his triples their floors spacing will likely be even better there also won’t be a clear defensive Li ability in their starting lineup as there’s a real chance that Golden State coming into next season won’t have any clear weaknesses and if they are successful in their Pursuit for trading Andrew Wiggins for a center Golden State will put themselves on the right path to
